  • Here's my review on the Mackie DRM212. After recording I thought I was maybe being a little too harsh saying it should be $100 less expensive. Maybe $50 less expensive. lol It's a pretty good speaker just not quite good enough for me to keep in my inventory. I just saw a 5 piece jam band that used these. It was a medium-large bar.
    They sounded ridiculously fantastic. I couldn’t get over the sound quality. I can’t compare, but at the time I was floored with how well the mix came through.

    Could you do me favor and feed one of the DRM tops a stereo signal via CH1 and CH2?
    Mine sound odd, when I do that. A huge part of the music, mainly the vocals are almost completely missing. When I use each channel individually it works perfect.

    I own the DRM Series 212 and 215s. I think they are amazing. Disagree with this review. No clipping. The SPL is 134 -135db. 1600 watts. Incredible! I have ran them for 4 years. Traded my Yamaha DXR 12" and 15" in for the DRMs. You said, good for an acoustic show & a wedding??? Big difference between both shows. Acoustic is a line array Bose speaker for a guitar playing solo singer. A wedding needs the bass response, the DRM Series has the bass to fill the room. DRMs are excellent wood powered speakers for the price. I bought them when the 12" was $899 and the 15" was $999, 4 years ago.

    Mackie DRM vs Yamaha DXR mk2 who is the better speaker ? Sound quality and bass.

      DRM speakers. They are made of wood. I never heard the MK2 but I traded in my Yamaha DXR 10" & 15" speakers for the DRM 212 & 215's & never looked back. The original DXRs would sometimes have buzz interference issues at certain events. Never experienced it with the DRMs & I use a ground loop isolator when needed at shows. Plenty of bass response and loud clarity with the DRMs. SPL is 134-135db. 1600 watts. I have owned the DRM Series for 4 years & running!! Now if You go Yamaha look at the DZRs.

      I currently have a Mackie srm150 and two of the ProFX12v3s. I also won a pair of their over-the-ear headphones in an Instagram giveaway. I'm actually a huge fan of the ProFX series of mixers and I really do like my little srm150. I've also always wanted to buy one of their dlm systems. @@TheAngrySoundTech I did my first gig with them. I'm in love! Best 850 bucks I've ever spent. They arrived looking immaculate, and I personally prefer the sound quality over my elx200-15P tops that I also have. Especially at high volumes. The ELX200's sound good when I'm right in front of them, but when I stand anywhere out of the ideal dispersion zone, they sound really muffled. Of course speakers are designed for listening in front, but as as a DJ who usually doesn't have a monitor, they were driving me nuts. They also seemed to get a "bouncy" sound when I pumped them up, I'm guessing that is because of the plastic cab, but I dunno. I haven't pumped the mackies to the limit yet, but I was getting up there and the sound quality just seemed to stay perfect no matter how loud I made them. Im very happy.

      I'm glad you're happy with your purchase! You got a solid deal on them for sure! And I agree a wood cabinet is always better than plastic. You can put all the bracing and ribbing in plastic that you want but it's still plastic. Wood will always sound better.

    • @TheAngrySoundTech
      @TheAngrySoundTech  3 роки тому

      @Dmwnskee If I was the only one using them I would but I also use my 12" tops for floor monitors and I would not want a guitar player resting his foot on my DZR's so he can look cool doing a solo. I also rent gear out and not many rental customers are looking for top of the line speakers. DXR's rent better than DZR's and to be honest EV ZLX-12P's rent better than DXR's. It's all about the price point for rental customers. So I try to maintain a balance of quality and price point. Also I have slight anxiety when someone does rent my DZR315's...

  • @g1981c

    a lot of tell tale signs on these that they are cheap. 1 - only peak power rated. 2 - only 1.4" VC on tweeter. 3 - no VC diameter stated for woofer. 4 - no venting or fins on the amp. all these point to a box that would be cheap if it was plastic but they have to charge you for the wooden cabinet. i think this might be an option for like home theater setup.

    • @snowvalleyrat
      @snowvalleyrat 2 роки тому

      I have them, and for hip hop or bass-heavy edm you definitely want subs. Don't need them, but want them. Lots of DJ's don't use subs and just use 12" tops without complaint. I paired mine with EV EKX 18-sp subs and it sounds great. For rock music or indie or acoustic, these would be fine without a sub. Of course you can get more volume with subs though. So a big gig of any music style you'd want them.

    Hi, thanks for the Video. Which Speakers are good enough for your Inventory?

    • @TheAngrySoundTech
      @TheAngrySoundTech  3 роки тому +2

      There is a lot of good gear out there but right now I tend to prefer the Yamaha DXR series over the Mackie DRM series. The Mackie has a few bright spots over the Yamaha but I do feel that with the Yamaha you get a higher quality speaker that will last longer, get louder and sound better. I might do a video on Mackie sometime. Just a general video on my thoughts of the company. They have a few products I like but I always wish they would step up the quality just a little. Like right now they are doing $200 off their Mackie SRM-FLEX. I'd rather they keep the price at $999 and put an extra $75 into the product to make it better instead of discounting it (I own 2 of them btw).

    How about the mackie drm12a? How do they compare to the KLA and VRX?

    • @TheAngrySoundTech
      @TheAngrySoundTech  2 роки тому

      I have owned and mix on a KLA system regularly. They are OK but I wouldn't buy them again. I did just mix on a VRX system recently for a small festival and while it did require a little EQ to keep the highs from ripping your head off I got many compliments on sound and would definitely recommend a VRX system over a KLA system. The Mackie unfortunately is the one I've never mixed on. I'll say I like the wood cabinet and that it has multiple compression drivers. I do wish they would have made each box 15 degrees in the verticle though. 20 degrees is a bit excessive for trying to scale a system up beyond two boxes.

    I'm confused. These have an spl rating that's 2 dB higher than the yamaha you mentioned. So you're saying they don't actually hit their spl rating?

    • @TheAngrySoundTech
      @TheAngrySoundTech  2 роки тому

      Always be skeptical with SPL ratings. Sometimes they are "Calculated" and not actually "Measured". Sometimes they measure one specific frequency instead of pink noise. My guess is if Mackie measures their SPL they are not doing it with a full range signal I'm guessing they are being very selective on what frequencies they are measuring to give the cabinet a higher SPL rating. I compared side by side the Mackie Srm Flex with a Bose Pro 8 and the Bose was probably 30-40% louder even though they have the same SPL rating.
