Hey DJ Barr! Glad to see you're using the new SOG "handy dandy box-opening shank" I gave you in Vegas. May it serve you well! Oh yeah, great video too. Been using Mackies for years. Keep up the great work!
mackie is a couple brand of RCF since 2014. the drivers in the new drm and they dsp is a product of RCF components. amplifier and housing is a thing from mackie in a form, that the amarican market needed. Here in europe we got a little bit other forms and things how do you can look on ev etx or rcf art.
@@sotoalfredo20 I was at a gig and they guy I work with brought his new EV's still in the box. We decide to run my mackies and his EV's. Forgot to check the levels on the one. Pushed it too hard. I took a listen at the end of the night and it sounded like trash.
I still have my Mackie Srm 450 v3 with 18 srm sub. When I hear Mackie Thump for the first time I thought they low a lot sound quality. But now it's good to see that Mackie came out with good speakers again.
I started with Mackie 15s the old ones. But I upgraded to the new ones and I can say with the 2 tops and the sub it's a really good system. Every time I do a gig I barley have them halfway not clipping and people ways ask what they are. Next year will be upgrading to some EV's. Note.. the sub is heavy as he'll lol.
Just got me a pair DRM 18s with the Thumps 15BST. spent about 3 hours testing it against the JBL PRX 818. Ended up with these because the price difference was about $400 then i have to get a tablet to get the 818 to sound right. I tested both outside by a busy street. In terms of sound as you said these can punch hard very hard, They don't go as low as the JBL. JBL was was silly deep and literally vibrating the entire concrete floor but didn't seem to throw out much bass when you start walking away. Considering I will be playing mostly outdoors and the price point i picked the DRM18. Might get the JBL later.
I have a lot of the SRX800 stuff, none of the Mackies, but when I heard the DRM315 (3-way), I thought it sounded better than the SRX835P. The 835P felt more aggressive but the DRM was a bit smoother. Both are excellent. The DRM12A's also sounded fantastic, but I wasn't able to A/b them to my VRX932LAPs which get stupid loud
I got the SRM 650's when they first came out, they sounded great the only problem was the Amplifiers went bad on me 3 times the speakers were always good but the amps they made were trash, luckly they came with a 3 year warranty. The 4th time I had a problem was the last year of the warranty they sent me a refurbished set so I sold them. I didn't wanna have issues with speakers after the warranty after having so many issues during the warranty, I still have the subs which is good because i haven't had any issues with the SRM subs, i feel like the subs are missing a bit more power. I'm using QCS K12.2 tops now, they sound great and have plenty of power. I don't miss the Mackies, they were heavy and had too many problems for me. Hopefully, these new ones are better.
@3:12- Get a room. Lol. I was lucky to start out on JBL's PRX line so I roll with JBL to this day. But I always hear Great things about Mackie and they do sound great. Great vid bro. One.
Mackie went to hell after they SRMs from late 90’s but even they had over heating issues.(my srms are still rocking from 99’) The Thumps were underwhelming. EVs are right for my size gigs and venues but trying some Turbos sound out and they are doing well. Thanks for the video!
RCF and FBT are good brands too (even the older ART Series 300/500), i can say prefer these two than JBL ones ! But i prefer bigger systems like the ones made by MARTIN Audio or Danley Sound Labs for example !
Is there a video on how to tune the sub to get more bass out of it? I have a pair of the 18s and I don’t feel that they are that great. But hopefully I just need to do some adjustments. Let me know if there are any changes I can make. Thank you!

got a drm 215 for 250 and a drm 315 for 250 but having a sound is broken on the 315 probably get it checked it out soon, same issue with 215 but it was just a loose connnector
Could you do me favor and feed one of the DRM tops a stereo signal via CH1 and CH2? Mine sound odd, when I do that. A huge part of the music, mainly the vocals are almost completely missing. When I use each channel individually it works perfect.
I want to hear your reaction & review after doing an event in a much larger area/venue. Brotha', I've been in the game as a Dj/sound designer since '92 and everything sounds much different from the demo room at the store to one's house & lastly inside a venue. Nice video though.
Nothing wrong with mackie, if you cannot set up those correctly why would any of us think you could manage SRX's. The thump series has and been doing my business well for over 7 years now, even in 90 degree weather so im not understanding your comment🤔. Haters will hate I guess😁
Tom Cornet Oh now I get it... Please dude can you say how a sub is different from a stand up speaker and how do we know if that’s a sub or not if we never knew the model number... etc...
@@beedslolkuntus2070 A sub is supposed to play the low frequencies of a track usually anything from a 100hz and below while a full range speaker (a stand up speaker) plays the full range i.e all the frequencies of the track that is the high, mid and low frequencies. The thing is full range speakers cannot play the low frequencies that a subwoofer can play as a result DJs and live bands usually use subwoofers to help separate the frequencies for optimum efficiency cause when you separate the frequencies with a different type of speaker handling different frequencies it reduces the strain on the speakers and allows them to perform optimally. My favorite way to go typically is use a three way speaker which has a driver for each frequency the high, the mid and the lows however when you add a subwoofer the low driver of the three way speaker will play mid-low frequency while the subwoofer plays the low frequencies
