- Dave Darcy, shooter producer of Motorcycle Adventure Dirtbike TV and Editor at Large at Australian Adventure Bike Magazine was invited by BMW Motorrad Australia to embed into the BMW GS Safari Tasmania 2022 for days 4 and 5.
Dave was accompanied on the ride by Journalist Dylan Ruddy of Bike Sales, who was also invited by BMW.
This hour and a half video will immerse the audience in the experience of being a participant in this great event that attracted 250 riders and a further 125 riders the following week. It is the largest event of its kind in Australia.
Absolutley awesome video… I am a huge Triumph fan, but after watching this adventure. I am super keen to look at the GS for sure.
Both are excellent bikes.
What a pleasure to listen to Dave whilst watching the scenery flood past, with the unmistakeable sound of a boxer breaking traction exiting corners, aural poetry. This channel is so real you can touch it.
Frank
Wow Frank! Glad you enjoyed it
I rode behind one at this offroad event in Sweden a few weeks back, and after every corner he just disappeared - incredibly fast on gravel. I'm sure this is a very capable bike with excellent road manners, but if you either ride alone or explore smaller trails, you need to be very careful. If your friend was riding by himself there's no way he would get the bike out of there.
Excellent video as always Dave, loved every second of it!
Good points and thanks for watching.
Dave (MadTV), I did mention to you 11 years ago you needed to come to Tasmania for a ride... 😅 Gods country for bike riders!
Wow, what a great ride, with great atmosphere, well done to all involved.
Thanks for another great production.
✊🙂👍
I should have listened Geordie.
Great video, looks like everyone had a great time. Owned a GS two bikes back, brilliant bike, African Twin shod now, hoping to head to tassie after motogp and find some of those trails that you rode..
I'm liking the Africa Twin, but the Beemer 1250 is also a great bike.
i love how when it was sped up all of the boxer bikes sounded like angry swarms of bees
That's one of the reasons I put that in.
Just finished watching this. Brilliant. MAD TV fan from fourteen thousand miles away in the Channel Islands off the south coast of England. 👏👍
Lots to see on this channel to keep you entertained. Thanks for watching from such a unique location.
Awesome video Dave. Makes me want to be at the next Safari even more. Bring on 2023.
It was a fantastic event
The editing is spot on, great job. Only meant to watch a taster as it’s late here in the U.K but watched it all. Really interesting. Thank you
Glad you enjoyed it! I enjoyed riding it. I don't ride the 1200s often. They are a very capable all rounder.
Wow, what a incredible Journey. I wish I could afford to go to this. Great Video. I really appreciate all the hard work you do making these. It’s like being there with you. BMW really does a Great job putting these together. The Trails are hard, but not so Technical that you just can’t do it if your not some kind of Pro. Perfect Trails really. It would be great going on one of these just for the challenge of pushing yourself a little harder than you usually would. You would come out of it a much better Rider than before. Thanks again for the Video. It was Great.
Glad you liked it.
You would want to check out what the ktm rally team do to organise there much more full on exiting 6 day rides they go above and beyond all the other branded rallys ktm really know what there customers want , im definatly going to book a ride in 2024 will be a amaizing experience i reckon 🇦🇺💪🏼
Another fantastic production ...as always, really showing us the trip and what's involved, I particularly enjoy these beemer trips down under, seems the perfect environment for a GS ... we have legal off road in the UK but most of it is unsuitable for larger bikes
Australia is one of those countries that is perfect for Bgi Beemers.
@@MotorcycleAdventureDirtbikeTV South Africa too!
Well done again Dave, glad you loved riding Tassie and can’t believe you haven’t done much here! I’ve ridden everything that was done on Safari multiple times and there is so much more than what you seen. Cheers Windy
A fantastic ride.
Awesome video
loved it!!! We are very spoilt for choice down here in Tassie
endless tracks 🙏
Had the pleasure of meeting dylan few years ago while he was here covering the insane ride, was behind him when a deer 🦌 ran into the side of the bike he was riding haha
I'd never ridden with Dylan.
Excellent video. Really enjoyed some of vicarious trail riding there on the big chunky bikes. Nice group of folk out riding there.
Glad you enjoyed it
Love your content, keep up the great work. Thank you for taking us a long on this adventure.
Thanks for watching!
Hello Dave, thanks for the nice video.I envy you for your beautiful country- adventure country. Really good event.
Thanks for that.
Keep it up.👍
Greetings Mario✌
Thank you. It was a great event.
1st class video presentation.Your relaxed style of interaction amongst the participants is absorbing.Thanks.
So nice of you. Their enthusiasm is infectious. It's great experiencing what they are talking about. Makes interviewing layed back and comfortable.
Another fantastic video Dave what a great life you have over there some much fantastic country side to play in just love watching Mad tv can’t wait for the next one keep up the good work mate
I've got to get the Second part of the Norden test out.
Oh nice! Dinner is almost ready, just in time for this gem! Of course the like button gets hit even before I've watched as usual. =D
Hope you enjoy. It was great fun.
Great content . I watched so much of your video I wanted a temere. Then I could not get hold of one and then it as tiger. So went to buy one . Watched this and they had a triple black brought it home....u r such a bad influence.
Good :)
One of your best videos yet. Thanks for the content and greetings from two G310GS full Rally Raid kitted riders in NZ.
Glad you enjoyed it! Rally Raided GS's would be ideal for NZ.
Absolutely awesome! Definitely on my bucket list.
Go for it!
Awesome as always Dave! That one is definitely on the bucket list.
✊😁👌
Grant.
It really is! Fantastic organisation. Just brilliant.
Another excellent video Dave! Thanks for bringing it to us! Appreciate Ya!
Thanks, a great bunch of people.
You didn't get lost, you just gone to explore places that are not on route. Great job Dave
Ah yes, yes, we weren't lost.
For some reason, I had it in my mind that Tasmania is all jungle covered, like Papua New Guinea. What a beautiful place. Now I want to travel there. Curse you MAD!
Brilliant adventure territory.
Hey. Great work again.
Two questions.
1 if you had to redo the ride what would be your five top bike in order of preference
2 do they instruct you to tilt one mirror for standing. Here in downtown Canada we tilt one mirror for standing and leave the other as is for seated riding.
Cheers
2 no, but great idea. 1. BMW1250 GS Triple Black, KTM1290 Super Adventure, Norden 901, Tiger 900 Rally Pro.
Can't believe youtube didn't pop this up for me when you posted! Cracking vid man! Love your stuff.
Thanks a ton!
Awesome teamwork and event👍
Yes it was!
Well that was an epic safari, Tasmania is a wonderfull place that has many fond memories, both for work and leasure. Thanks for the great UA-cam video, appreciated your really good camera and editing skills. I liked the last speech about buying a GS and parking it the garage at home and not using it for the intended purpose, guilty as charged your honour, I am one of those buggers after breaking my leg in 2013. I have an R1200GS 2008 model with under 40k on the odometer in my garage, she's a beauty mate.
You need to slowly get back out there.
Just as much fun to watch the second time 👍
I hope to be riding them again soon.
As a mather of fact I love this channel, thank you for sharing.
Glad you enjoy it! There's lots of good stuff on this channel.
The sort of figures we look at when on a rally is typically under a grand for the auctions. Mind you it's not BMW. Looking at purchasing the GS850 soon, so I might meet you guys and gals next year. Keep up the great content.
I hope to be back.
Thanks for sharing Dave.
Your right 61 today should of done it when your 30 oh all the things we should of done 30 years ago.
You got that right!
Really glad to be the first viewer!Epic ride! Keep on riding!
Welcome aboard!
Mas allá de que el video no esté relacionado con esa competencia, ¿cual la cilindrada mayor (o cantidad de caballos) que se permite en las motos que corren el Dakar? ¿corre una sola categoría de motos o hay mas pequeñas y mas grandes? Gracias.
No es relevante para nada
Great effort cobba they do a good job of getting through some of that sh$t we are spoilt for terrain choice down here ya just gotta luv tazzy goodonya mate cheers
Ta.
Fun barley describes this event
.....just awesomeness
You're right.
I did the 2nd week Absolutely Brilliant. Not as much rain.
That would have been a little better. Although everyone really enjyed themselves.
I've wanted a GS from the first I'd heard of it, just haven't had it yet!
Great bike. Amazingly versatile and comfortable.
What a ride, what a trail.... I am lovin it.
Glad you enjoy it!
Thanks Dave great to see! Do you have, or is there anywhere we can get info on the specific route taken? I'm surprised to hear you underestimated tassie. As a local I was always under the impression that tassie was well known around Aus as having the best motorcycle roads. Unfortunately it would seem a missed tourism opportunity, either that or something "they" would rather not advertise for whatever reason.
I came down wih my wife a few years ago, but we stayed close to the coast and missed the good stuff in the middle. Definitely coming back.
These are always a treat.
Glad you liked it
Met a few of the second group today at the Great Lakes hotel/shop/servo all having a great time and up for a chat even though I had my Ducati shirt on and ride a 790🤪
We are really a big family
Dave, great vid and ride
Glad you enjoyed it
Amazing, you are so creative👍
Thank you so much 😊
The real question is what is the bloody song at the start?????
Its great but i cannot find it anywhere???
From Music Bed Song: On the Run Band: Albatross
That river dive was so majestic
Beautiful riding
Hi great video. Love my GS. Btw what’s that song playing at @10.44 . Can’t find it anywhere? Cheers
Royalty free music on Musicbed. Have a look there.
The Latin mob 👊🏼. Thanks Dave!
Ha ha. We need to come over and ride!
min 3;49 ... a swiss highway toll sticker from 2014 .. bike must have seen some miles , respect
Good spotting
great video Dave, just one question , is there any correlation in video between 32:25 and 35:20
Not sure what you mean.
Really enjoyed this, great work.
Glad you enjoyed it
Another brilliant video, we are in the middle of planning a ride around Aus (Africa Twin and Tiger) and our next purchase is tyres, what tyres did you have or what do you recommended for 70/30?
Pirelli Rally STR but remember I'm supported by Pirelli. Good tyre for that, but slippery in mud. Australia is still in grip of La Nina.
Another great video - thank you!
My pleasure!
Great video Tassie has some impressive places ,what tyres were you running?
Metzler Karoos I think.
Great review.
Thanks!
That was a quick upload Dave, must have had a busy weekend
It was, but I had a busy week coming up and wanted to get it out.
Just came across your channel.. and have now subscribed.. by the way 33:54 am i seeing it correctly his front tyre is super buckled or is it just filmed that way..
Not sure.
Hi Dave
Thanks for another great video.
It was a shame about the weather for Jacobs Ladder !!!
I know you had heated grips, but what gloves did you have to cope with the Tassie rain and cold ???
And did they work, what would you recommend for that type of weather ???
Many thanks
Andrew
I had KLiM Gortex gloves, fairly light weight but with the heated grips worked well to that 2 degree level. BMW have a decent glove for the cold but I don't know the name of it. KLiM have a good range of more insulated gloves. As you know I am sponsored by them.
Thanks Dave for the reply, it will help narrow down the choices
Absolutely loved this film , let’s me see what my bikes capable of …..maybe not the rider tho lol . Can I ask what’s the song playing ( 7:35 ) very very catchy and goes well with the film . Love it
Lovely ride. Songs are from Music bed.
Well done Dave…looks like enjoyed yourself
Brilliant fun.
The GS1200 is a great off-road bike as long as you have 4 people to help you pick it up.
That's what mates are for. They really are amazing in the dirt.
I enjoyed that Tasmania is my dream location 👍
You and me both!
Thanks for the video. What tyres most people are using?
Metzler Karoo, I think
Love the song throughout the first part of the video….what’s it called? Awesome video
Better Man from Musicbed.
The song's name is On the Run by Albatross, here's a UA-cam video link ua-cam.com/video/B6lECPzbM8U/v-deo.html
Awesome, only thing missing is nugget 😏
Nugget still sick.
@@MotorcycleAdventureDirtbikeTV I hope he comes good soon..cheers
@@holeephuk Nugget not sick just cant reach the ground on a 1200gs 😂
@@balkos450 next time grab high heels 👠 ...that may help😂
Did you turn ABS off? Or are you one of the riders who can outride ABS? You'll have to do a video demonstrating how you can outride the modern BMW ABS system.
Yes I did turn off ABS to the rear by selecting Enduro Pro, I also rode a lot in Enduro mode which initiates Offo Road ABS which is excellent.
Brilliant video, thanks :)
Glad you liked it!
Maintaining a speed is crucial in that water pass , probably saddling with speed would help more there
Agree
1:20:00 reminds me of a trip to Deadhorse, Alaska I had!
Thank you
You're welcome
Mate.. you just made my day..
Excellent
$16500 for a helmet, wow these older fellas have some $$$. But great video , I've always wanted to go to Tasmania , maybe sooner than later
Go sooner! You won't be disappointed.
Every year you leave it means your a year older when you do it
Great video. BUT, when your on the move please turn off the music and let us hear the "music" from the engine and the surroundings ;)
Terrible wind noise at speed
@@MotorcycleAdventureDirtbikeTV Ok. But anyway a great journey to watch.😀 Looked like you had a great time.
Curious what time of year was the safari? Is this an annual thing?
A coule of weeks ago. Yes annual.
What's the song about 8 minutes in..... And again at about 11 minutes?
By Albatross not sure of the name.
Nice👍👍
Thanks
I would love to do this
Do it! It's a wonderfully welcoming environment for all skill levels.
Who sings the opening song to this video?
Albatross
does anyone know that name of the song @8:15. Thanks.
What’s the song playing at 11.05mins?
Royalty free music
Living Large
Very fortunate.
Do you have a coupon code I can use for a GS?
ha ha ....ah no!
Where is noggst ?
Sore back
Hi Dave......great video...one day l'll join the Chilean team (is in my bucket list)
If you decide to come to Chile for a ride, please let me know as to help tou out.....as the GM of BMW Motorrad Australia mentioned
You can see on my channel a few super amateur videos of the fameous Carretera Austral
Cheers
Hitting Chile would be a great idea.
Thats it, I'm buying a gsa
great fun.
What's the average age of a GS rider?
52?
He's on the Exxon Valdez??? You mean, leaking oil everywhere? Hmmm... maybe I'll stick to my KTM - it only leaks oil a little :-)
In terms of large volume of fuel. 😂
✨
That was a great ride
22:25 😄
Dave, I miss a decent backdrop, both in your opening narrative and during the video. Give us some infor on the bike you ride, the route, the reason you're here, the numberqs, etc. this way, we're just dropped in the middle of some boring shots in the beginning, with no rime or reason. Not your best! For something that is supposed to make you want to watch for 1H30, there has to be a reason given at the beginning. I'm being critical, because you normally don't do these beginner mistakes.
have you considered
time? There is a very big difference between a decision and mistake
What tires did you had on the bike?
Metzler Karoo
@@MotorcycleAdventureDirtbikeTV do you know if there was anyone with trailmax mission? I try to understand if those tires are recommended/suited for such conditions.
@@ladduro no idea
You guys really need a cardo lol.
:)
That’s hard to watch so many guys with NO IDEA…
At least there giving it a go.
Pirelli suponsoru ne oldu. Dünya ralli Safari Dakar rallisi dört dörtlük çöl rallisi. Vaaayı babam vaaayı teeeeeh
Esses robozão é muito pesados KKK
Manuseie bem para robôs grandes. :)
These bmw safaris have nothing over the ktm adventure rallys do they , i wonder if the average bmw rider wants more of a soft ride compared to the bit more full on ktm rallys or do a lot of them want more of a proper blood sweat and tesrs adventure
BMW hold a range of rallys for different off road skill levels. Although many experienced riders go on this one there are other Safaris that are full on! Look on the net you'll find them.
@@MotorcycleAdventureDirtbikeTV ok cool thanks for the info i appreciate it
My street bike can do better than those bikes.
I'd like to see that.
