- Shot in 4K so good to watch on TV! I’ve been invited to the 2021 BMW GS Safari being held in Cairns, in tropical north Queensland, Australia to get my first impressions of the new 2021 BMW R 1250 GS Adventure, and to see what it’s like to ride on a Safari and spend some quality time out on the trails with people who just love their Beemers.
Shot in 4K so worth watching on the big screen.
With a great combination of riding environments, from slippery tropical rain forest tracks, to open fast flowing twin trail, twisty mountain black top and fast open roads through huge landscapes, this is an ideal environment to gain some first impressions of this latest GS Adventure to hit the market.
I catch up with Andrew CLUBB AKA Clubby, Editor of Australian Adventure Bike Magazine and we ride together to experience the bike, the riders and the GS Safari event.
For those new to MAD TV I'd encourage you to look around the channel, we have international adventures, bike reviews and Chris Birch extreme videos and other stuff and most recently some great films from Nick Sanders. Occasionally we go live for some fun. Here are some links to help you find the good stuff.

Outstanding video fellas, very enjoyable - Love Clubby's enthusiasm, he's like the Steve Irwin of motorcycling
Yeah, I'm lucky to have surrounded myself with people who are so excited about motorcycling.
Houw i cen compilatie
Clubby is the best
This is the best Adventure channel on the tube and hopefully 1 day will be at 1 Mil + subs, just another amazing video learned so much again for a wanna be ADV rider !!
Wow, thanks!
They are addictive. Traded one in for a CrossTourer soon realised my mistake and had to get another GS. Two months ago I traded that in for a Pan America Special which is about to be traded in for another GS. As I said they're addictive. And this great video has made me more eager to get another GS as well.
A great all rounder.
I laughed all the way through it. It looks like a superb time was had by everyone involved. Imogen Creek is now on my bucket list!!
That place was great fun.
Having done a GS Off Road riding course with Chris, Shane & Miles ( Legend ) earlier this year the training is so invaluable and worth every cent in what you get in return. Fantastic footage and keep up the Awesome viewing. HWY
They would be great teachers. You would learn a heap from them.
Cheers guys, fantastic video - I’ve subscribed to the channel just from viewing it! 🤙🇬🇧
Excellent. We're off to this year's BMW Rally shortly.
LOVED THE SAFARI RIDES. EVERYONE SEEMS TO HAVE HAD FREAKING GOOD TIME. KUDOS TO EVERYONE. FUN RIDING. KEEP SAFE AND SAFE RIDING GUYS. I WISH I AM THERE .
It was great fun.
Great video mate! Glad to see you mentioned about the baby GS too!! Appreciate that and keep up the good work guys!!!
Thanks! Will do!
Gotta say I really enjoyed watching this vid, I own a street glide and was looking at the 1250 before I bought the glide I do wish I got one now and reckin I will in the near future.. thanks guys.
Go for it!
Great one, boys! Loved the drone footage of the creek crossings.
Thanks Luke.
All senior adventure riders!!!
I wish I would be joining the team, such educational experience
Thank you
Clubby, what you said at the 57 minute mark about the group events is exactly why these events are so important to our lifestyle. I don't think of it as only recreation or a sport, it's how I get around mostly. In my mind we need to change how the rest of the world looks at motorcycling,.
Recently I had my main mile muncher go down 5 hours to the South of me. I had to move Heaven & Earth to get a tow, and then getting parts for the bike is incredibly slow. We don't hear of this in the other vehicle segments.
So, getting more people passionately involved in motorcycling as a viable lifestyle would improve laws, parts availability, insurance rates, etc...
I applaud the BMW Safari. Job well done!
Thanks for your thoughtful contribution
@@MotorcycleAdventureDirtbikeTV You're very welcome. Thank you for all you do for motorcycling.
Great portrayal of the even, and the 1250 Dave. Didn’t hear one complaint from any of the riders. Pleased everyone enjoyed a bit of my backyard. We’re nice and spoilt up here for adventure riding options. Loved the interview with Jane. What a champion she is. 👍
Glad you enjoyed it. Yeah, I liked talking to Jane she was inspirational.
Unbelievable video !! MAD delivers again... I've been waiting for this year's safari video ... but yours absolutely blows beemers own vid out the water ... awesome 👌🏻
Wow, thank you!
Thanks Dave - really captured the spirit of the event. Just glad there wasn’t a drinking game to take a sip every time you mentioned “traction control”….
Yeah it was a tad over done. I think it was etched in my mind, firstly through my own fears in that mud and then watching the others.
Great video Dave! Fun to watch your mate Clubby, he’s always enthusiastic! I’ve never ridden a BMW, but now have a much greater respect for them. Ride safe!
Keep an eye out for the next video as I start a series on crossing the Tropical North of Australia.
Great video Dave and clubby. Awesome viewing.
Glad you liked it.
It is good to see a terrific event with MAD participation and coverage. I like your opinions on the GS's and it has made me aware of why oldies ride them (a lot of my friends do). The SUV of adventure bikes.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Such a cool event to have. On another video of this safari, one of the guys riding said he only had a few hours on the bike from getting his license. I thought that was awesome for him to give it a run right off the bat. Great to hear the perspective of a dirt-bike guy here too. Thanks.
Dirt keeps it real :)
MAD bike reviews are near the top of my list. Dive into the key details and the ride experience. The water crossing footage was epic!
Glad you like them!
Great video, thank you. Im just about to buy my first 1250 GSA, this video has sealed the deal. im also enjoying going through a lot of your other videos. cheers fellas. Angus from the U.K
There will be another video out soon on the GSA 1250 Rallye X
Another great video by you guys, again capturing a true representation of the event. Great to finally meet Dave and Clubby after having watched so many videos in the past. Luke ‘that’s livin’’ 😂
Thanks Luke for doing the interviews. Lots of fun.
Truly an epic adventure 👏 thanks for sharing.
Bugger, how did I miss that in my backyard?
Awesome vid again MAD 😎👍
Not sure. Lots of bikes, over 200!
Very good footage Dave and Clubby excellent creek crossings show how capable these things are , Great work !!!
Glad you enjoyed it Dave. Reminds me of the Nundle rumble.
Great video Dave.... I laughed when you said “you might have it in Enduro Pro but you still need to know what your doing “
Exactly!
I have never ridden off road. I will now ! Great video !!i
Hello from Texas. I would Love to live in Australia. I Love the People, The Country, and the Camaraderie. That Adventure looked like a really Great Ride. Not Real hard, and by no means easy either. What a Great Time. Everyone had a big Smile on their Faces. I can’t seem to be able to find any kind of Organized Adventure Rides like that where I Live. Going it alone is not the best advice for being a Intermediate Rider. So improving is a slow process. Anyway, I Loved the Video.👍 I can’t wait to see more.
The latst bmw rally is on this channel now.
What a great video! Thanks for sharing the Safari experience to someone who couldn't make it this year!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Absolutely brilliant video. Seeing you both on the big tractors was awesome. I thought you might be surprised. Awesome footage, feedback and opinions. 10/10 👏👏👏👌
Glad you enjoyed it, they were great fun.
Great video, Dave, always interesting to see your perspective on these various bikes! Looked like a good time was had by all! Ride safe!
Yeah, I enjoyed riding the big beemer. I certainly understand why it has such a huge fan base.
Brilliant, simply brilliant video guys, thank you for sharing it!! 👍👍
Glad you enjoyed it
Another great video. Love my GSA! These bikes are just awesome! Confidence inspiring!
They are!
Great video guys. Glad you got on them with open minds. My '06 GSA broke last week, so I just bought one of the bumblebees which were on that ride. Our local dealer took it on the trip. Loving it.
It's a great bike for what we did.
Well done Dave and Clubby, great filming Dave you've got that sorted
Thanks Mark. It was great fun.
Thank you for the excellent video review on the GS1250! This has definately made up my mind on what next long tour bike will be.
Glad it was helpful!
Love this..such inspiration to get out and ride
Go for it!
Good music as always Dave!
Thank you
A couple of questions about tyres. Clubby and my bike were fitted with Metzler Karoo 3.
At what kind pressure?
@@MarcoSero 26psi front 28psi rear
Epic edit Dave and well worth the wait. I didn’t get to participate, but my mate Grant was on the ride. Cheers
Thanks Steve. It was great fun.
Hi There.
Love all your Videos.
I just wondered when the Cairns to Darwin trip will be uploaded.
Glad you decided to take Nugget as without him It's not a real Adventure. He is such a character and I love his muck in team attitude.
Keep up the great vids.
Guy
From UK
I'm putting it together now. Unfortuntately I left one of the recording disks on the bike, which was being shipped back. I'll get that tomorrow, so things should move forward then. I'm thining of pushing it out in 30 min episodes. Nugget was in fine form.
Looks like you guys had a great time up here in Cairns.
I hope you come back up here real soon for more adventures.
I hope so too!
Love this trip, it;s been along time. thank you.
Glad you enjoyed it
Great vid which reminded me why my bmw days are over. Had to fast forward it around minute 22 when some bloke was trying to "keep it simple" with the various buttons to press and what the modes mean and what the.. blah blah !! Wanna keep it simple mate? Wanna not get stranded with water in the electrics that only bmw can fix via a satellite connection at a million dollars an hour? Buy a T7
As always enjoyable! :)
thank you
excellent video ! have a BMW R1250GSA Touratech World Travel Edition and I love it ..hope I can come to Australia asap and have some good rides with you !
There's stacks of riding here.
Awesome review of the BMW Safari mate ! Glad you liked riding the big sand pigs !!
It was great fun. I loved riding them in the mud best of all.
After Aussis kicked out Novak Djokovic out of Australian Open I was pissed off to pay a vist to Australia ever again but this thing soften my heart
Love it
Good. The decisions were right for Novak, but how it was done was terrible and embarrassing for Australia.
Always good to watch. Greetings from Germany. I'm soon going to tackle the Trains Euro Trail Sweden with my Kawasaki Versys 300-X 😌🇸🇪
Thank you. And excellent the TET looks exciting.
ALL YOU GUY'S ARE AWESOME, UK
We just love motorcycling. Always have.
MAD is one of the best channel and it helped me in buying my motorcycle
Glad to hear that, we try.
Insanely well done guys. I love MAD Tv and this is why! But the big question Dave & Clubby is, are we trading in our Tenere’s for a 1250 GSA???????😉😉
I love big bikes, but I like more challenging trails so the smaller capacity adventure bikes suit me better.
Nice video. As an American bloke I love seeing your Australian riding videos. At about an hour and 5 minutes the interview with Jane Curran was put in the video for the second time.
Are not correct, the interview with Jane is longer the 2nd time around. She had some great things to say.
Fantastic Dave, really enjoyed that and glad you liked the GSA! I love my GS, it's the best all around bike I've owned and I've owned many! The mechanical grip it has is excellent. Is there a GS/GSA in your future perhaps?
I loved riding it, but for the type of stuff I enjoy doing I like between 500 and 800 cc.
Really good video. Great people -- great fun.
Great fun to film
Excellent event & video🤗
But heated seat and grips, in Australia, come on guys🙀🤯
ha ha :) it was a nice additional in the tropical rain
Try riding in tassie. Heated gear appreciated.
Or ride through the snow in the Victorian High Country. Heated grips are a safety feature.
@@duncanmacster 🌻Get a sense of humour - you were all in tropical Queensland😻and I was very envious😉
Hey Great Video Dave, enjoyed it a lot and it brought back memories of My trip to The Tip back in 2007, Still remember the great night we had at the Lions Den.Question- how do you record both ends of your comms with you and Clubby to Video? Cheers Brent NZ
Glad you enjoyed it. Go PRO nine with media kit and microphone into the helmet facing backwards.
Haha got to love the BMW crowd
A great bunch of people.
Awesome video, hope BMW Mottarad had such safaris in CA
You and me both!
Great video Dave, what would Clubby's choice be the GS125O or the Super Tenere that he rode to the Flinders Ranges.
Ask him. He's like me, we ride them, but our natural default is something smaller.
About time for Safari to head back to the NT.
Good riding for those bikes.
Outstanding video production.Excellent entertainment value.Thanks a mill.JHB-SA.
Glad you enjoyed it
I'd love a BMW R 1250 GS Adventure
Lovely bike to ride.
Great clip, really enjoyed watching. I ride a 2016 Super Tenere ES, and knowing you’ve ridden the Tenere and now the GS how would you compare the two as off road bikes. I realise the GS has a far greater electronic suite but I also have the ability to disable ABS and TC on my bike.
The Super Ten made a huge impact when it hit our shores around 10 years ago. Some very innovative engineering solutions from a brand new bike. In recent years it's had some updates that polished it up; electronic suspension is one example. I've now ridden all three big heavy weights, the KTM Super Adventure, the Yammy and now the 1250. They are all great bikes. All comfortable mile munchers, although the Yammy is now dating rapidly now that the other two have had serious upgrades. This year Yamaha ceased production of the Super Ten; not sure we're they're heading. I look forward to riding the new KTM Super Adventure R, which should occur in the next couple of months if the moons align. Having said al of that, I still have a soft spot for the Super Ten. I've ridden it in seriously testing conditions in NZ and it did brilliantly. Coincidently on the day I am corresponding with you, Yamaha have advised that my camera bike for the Tenere Tragics will be the Black Super Ten that Clubby rode when we were last in the Flinders Ranges.
@@MotorcycleAdventureDirtbikeTV thanks for the quick reply. The euro bikes have definitely set a cracking pace for innovation, it will be interesting to see if Yamaha choose to continue with a big adv machine. For now I’ll keep using mine to explore the WA outback, a great bike for the job. Do like the big Beemer though.
Awesome Dave

Bloody great video.Thanx a lot.
Glad you enjoyed it
Those GS 1250 BMW's. Has to be said, they are good looking.
Nice to ride
Great stuff BMW put on a great show..
Glad you enjoyed it
any idea how the smaller capacity bikes did on the off-road side of it, that looked immense and total fun
The 310 was fantastic, as were the 800's. A lot of people would have been happier on smaller capacity bikes.
I got to ride one of these recently as my buddy picked one up. Amazing machine but i prefer the smaller DL650 better and waiting on the Tenere 700 crazy to die down a bit to stop paying the premium. I was looking for a croc sitting on the river.
The crocs are there. They see you, you don't see them
I never understood these trips, it always felt like a school trip before the 18th birthday, so I've usually gave up in less than a day :D . But from the comments, people really like them, as for me, I get the cinematography, which is, once again, superb, so everybody gets their fill :) .
I like doing them they are fun and you quicky learn a heap.
@@MotorcycleAdventureDirtbikeTV Whenever you bring the camera, I like them too :D .
Man that looks great, we can all snigger about the gs crowd but if you don’t watch this with a touch of envy you are delusional. Shout out to saint Shaun, I rode with him a bit in wa a year or 2 ago, top bloke and ran his own little training and safaris.
Shaun is a great bloke
It was fun! This was my first GS Safari - there's pros and cons to the event, as with anything. For me the highlights were not having to plan/research the routes, and the chance to meet new peeps. Nearly all the logistics are handled by the BMW Safari team. Really nice to know that the route for each day was (1) open and not some imaginary cattle-herding track copied from a 100 year old map and (2) well-suited to most skill levels and a big bike. I usually do the route planning/research for trips with buddies, so it was a pleasure to outsource that responsibility/risk to someone else for once, hah. The team did a great job in that regard, I feel.
And Shaun was great help for many a rider at the creek!
My Husky 701 blows those tugs out of the water. I went through 4 weeks prior to you guys..... Jesus you fellas would never have made it through.
Horses for courses
How do you compare the GS to the Super Tenere? Perhaps Clubby could answer that, but I assume you’ve had a decent amount of time with his bike!
I've had a lot of time on Super Teneres and those videos re o this channel. They are a very capable bike, but their technology is dating particularly traction control and ABS. They ceased production this year. Looking forward to seeing what Yamaha brining out next.
Great bike greatvideo, I'll stick withmy 900 rally pro though
You've got to like what you like.
You blokes do a great job looks good but wouldn’t trade my Africa twin👍
Thanks mate.
Great video, well done!
Thanks for the visit. Stay a bit longer a MAD TV there are lots of other videos.
I liked the aussie version of La Grange during the river crossing.
yes
Nice vid as always.
Help me decide
Currently ride a 890r
Want something a bit bigger for longer trips
75% road 25% dirt
GS or the new KTM 1290r?
Is the GS fun?
Thank you
Ride safe
Both!
your stuff always a good watch thanks, as a GS rider they seem to work better than they should I agree. The UK BMW school is just up the road from me in Old Wales, and they are busy, occasionally I come across convoys of their GS's going somewhere, you have to be a rich man or lady to play their games though. Probably the same down your way Golf buggies for the luggage, In the rivers, What are Goulies?
Rocks
Great adventure!!That bike is amazing. I’m coming from a CRF 250 Rally and thinking in getting a GS. Do you think is a big jump? Thanks
Yes, it is a big jump. Be careful what you wish for, the little Honda is a great bike.
@@MotorcycleAdventureDirtbikeTV so it’s better to make the right path, G310GS, F850GS, F850GSA, and finally the R1200GS?
good vid dave. ive just ordered a GS low, so looking forward to it. i see St Sean said "turn traction control OFF" at rivers, did he mean on?
Ha ha, when the traction control light is on, the traction control is OFF! And that's exactly where it should be in crocodile infested rivers.

When’s the husky video coming??
I've gone through most of the tootage, but there is a piece missing and that card is in my bag and I don't get access until next week. The footage is solid and I want to do a good job. There is so much footage, it will likely be two one hour pieces. I hope to have the first, the Cairns to Darwin out within the month.
@@MotorcycleAdventureDirtbikeTV can’t wait for the video! Just picked up my crf300L today and I love it.
Hou i cen by part of dis super 🙏🏽🙏🏽
Interesting how everyone refers to Bavaria even though since 1969 all German-made BMW motorcycles have been made in the Berlin factory (well worth a tour). Now Berlin makes knockdown kits for bikes (including this one) to be assembled in Brazil and Thailand, and China makes the 750 and 850 engines...Bavaria just manages the cashflow.
Yeah I've been to the Berlin factory. It was amazing to watch a bike move along an assembly line from nuts and bolts.
What tires was mounted on your bike? Karoo 3 or TKC80?
How they did perform?
Karoo 3 and they were reat for those conditions.
Hey hey great video! Was waiting for that !! Well done 👏 great interviews but next time ⏲️ could you speak to tge young blonde 👱♀️ girls on camera too please ! Now next thing I want to see is the 1250 and tge 1290 crossing the Simpson dessert ! You got the fuel range don't need lots of luggage ! People and I want to know if two bikes no help each other can make it through the sand ! Well done mate
Noted!
good day mate..how much is the price of 1250 gsa 40th anniv edition in australia?
No idea
On 3:46 shown a view of tripcomputer and pair of Garmin Etrex 30x mounted on a handlebar. What is the reason of using of two devices?
That wasn't my bike.
You turned ABS off????? You have a lot to learn. ABS on the front wheel in Enduro Pro has saved my arse at least once.
You can't turn abs off the front wheels only the rear. On some bikes it maintains you can, but you can't, it's always there in some form.
have you been depriving clubby of Maccy D's? he's looking quite svelt
That was then. We've both blown out since then.
