I think people forget on why aiming is tied to the movement. With the limitation, you had to choose between shooting the enemy and dodging them. If the reticle is seperate from movement, you could keep shooting and dodge no matter what. It's the main reason why star fox was so fun to play
I bought this and enjoyed playing the first couple of levels. Cracking little game. I think it’s more for retro fans than bringing new fans in as it’s a bit stale presentation wise. I’d have kept this in the oven a bit longer but it’s nice to see the devs are taking all advice onboard for updates. Always good to see fellow devs adapt their stuff for market.
after playing panzer dragoon orta on xbox, this game doesn't look that impressive. if i'm remembering correctly orta was far more visually impressive and it was on the original xbox. it was probably the best looking xbox game i've ever seen though. just looking at it the controls also look more clunky than orta. i'd expect it to be more impressive than a 20+ year old game.
Honestly i'm glad it exists and that i can play it on my switch. I do fall into the nostalgia camp though, with the original pc port being a large part of my childhood.
Specifically, dragoons were traditionally not true cavalry, but heavy "mounted infantry", meaning that they would ride to battle but would dismount to fight. They were used as shock troops that could deploy faster than conventional infantry and were generally more heavily armed/armored.
Honestly, that's partly the reason I bought this, to support these guys. I like this game, and I wanted to revisit it and see how good the remake was, however, I want the sequel. I literally played Zwei for years. It was my go-to game when I was bored or waiting for a new game. Not to mention the soundtrack, god I love that game.
@Darth Kennedy I had just poured a glass of Hennessey When I saw a reply from Darth Kennedy. What a delight On this sombre night, Thank you for your thoughtful remedy.
Oh Alex, we're gonna fall out! :P :D I am a proud owner of the original Pander Dragoon on the Saturn and you dissing this game brought a tear to my nostalgic eye.. nah, I totally agree with what you said. I naturally bought this version and I like the new graphics, but it doesn't feel as exciting as the original or quite as polished as you say.
I like this remake. I played it and it's just like the original, which has it's pros and cons. It's a fun shooter but I think they could have tweaked the controls for today's standards, like faster camera movement when turning directions. That delay is annoying af. It's one thing to play strategically when with the enemies, but not with the camera. Anyways, I'm really happy this was remade, however, I'm waiting for Panzer Dragoon II Zwei. That one is by far the superior one. I literally spent years playing that game. Other mechanics were added like evolving your dragon and berserk mode, not to mention the OST by Saori Kobayashi is EPIC. I heard they're making it and I cannot wait. Big shout out to Forever Entertainment S. A.!! Thank you for resurrecting some of my best gaming years.
If this remake includes the original game as a bonus, then the remake's price would be a little bit more justified. I say little bit. If it does include it, I would say it's worth at least 10-15
i think they should have remade the 2nd game and have the remaster come out as a bundle (and also dont need to rush development!) Overall I grew up with this series thanks to my brother so I absolutely adore it and will still purchase. I wish it wasn't 30 bucks for just 1.
Yeah, I agree. The sequel was much better, they took what was good from the original and added to it. I was thinking they should have done Zwei first then the original, but your idea would have been much better. Bundling them both would've been a good idea considering how short the games are. Back in the day, they used the same graphics/engine for both, that's why the sequel was released only a year later. Hopefully, next year we'll have Zwei.
I don’t understand why they didn’t remake both Panzer Dragoon games and release them as a Panzer Dragoon remastered collection or something. Both are too short on their own, so putting them together as one game would justify the 25 dollar price tag.
It puts too much stuff on screen, especially the first level. The barren world was partly due to hardware limitations, but it was an artistic decision that contributed to the atmosphere nonetheless.
I know it's not worth the money but I couldn't handle myself and paid full price as I love the original 2 games so much on my Saturn.. I'm also going to buy the physical to keep sealed as a collector's piece (as well as SOR4). I guess in a couple months it will go on sae for 50% off but doesn't matter, I'll have played through it many times by then and enjoyed it. It is what it is, average graphics or not. When it's out on steam, and on SALE, I may buy the PC version to play it in 4K, sure it will look a lot better there. You either love Panzer or you don't. I love it. PD Orta on the OG Xbox is my very favourite though.
I'm tired of arguing over this game especially from another channel that buried it if people want it they want it if they don't they don't i don't have the energy to constantly argue with people over a game i'm a fan of the series i'm getting it soon as i can get some extra money i don't give a damn if it doesn't hold up to the original
A Heartless Remake. Got it 75% off, ($6 USD and some change). Not sure if it's even worth that. It's essentially a lengthy mini-game. The ONLY noticable change is the long load times before each stage. The gameplay was interesting for it's time, but archaic for modern gaming standards. I still own a sega saturn copy of the original, and that's arguably better.
loved the OG series but when i compare änzer Dragoon Orta on the OG xbox which is still Backward compatible on the xbox one and ten times better looking and longer with the O.G episode included is a much better deal than this cheap "remake" ...
This game was always a favorite of mine on the Saturn, and PD Orta was a bada*s game on the og Xbox, too. On a sidenote, while watching this video, and hearing Alex mention something about them also remaking a sequel, I looked online and learned there was also a sequel on the Saturn. I didn't own a Saturn for very long back then, but still, I can't understand why, or how, I never, at least, saw it, or heard about it, throughout all these years. Lol. I have to question everything now... H**l, I might even have a kid out there running around that I don't even know about! 🤔
I think I will stick with Jamestown+. Yeah it's a 2D bullet hell game, but it's multitude of different ships and multiplayer just seem to make it better even if you can't beat the game on anything less then hard difficulty. J+ is about an hour long as well but has a ton of replay value.
This game is currently on sale for $2.50 in the American Nintendo eShop -- totally worth it.
Dec 2022, still on Sale! Fun game.
April 2023 and still on sale, def worth it at $2 or $3.
Friday, may 3,2024. got mine on switch for 14 cents its cool

This is a port of a game that predates orta

Panzer Dragon 2 is much better. I hope they eventually also make Panzer Dragon Saga. One of the best RPGs of a generation that few people got to play

Saori Kobayashi wasn't involved with Zwei's soundtrack. Azel/Saga was her first contribution to the series.
I'd wanna play it but yeah...too expensive.
It's currently $6.

Honestly, if they remade the other 3 games (Zwei, Saga and Orta) and threw them all together as a bundle, fans would fall over themselves to buy it.
It felt rushed (not surprising given its sudden release). But I'm optimistic about the upcoming patches
I always thought the BotW Story Trailer Theme sounded like the Panzer Dragoon music
I don’t understand why they didn’t remake both Panzer Dragoon games and release them as a Panzer Dragoon remastered collection or something. Both are too short on their own, so putting them together as one game would justify the 25 dollar price tag.
Well let's hope they fix some of the issues in a patch or something cause if not... i would rather play the original than buy the remake.
It's games like this that they should just port or remaster the original.
It puts too much stuff on screen, especially the first level. The barren world was partly due to hardware limitations, but it was an artistic decision that contributed to the atmosphere nonetheless.
