Sax workers? Women of the night was RIGHT THERE!!! And honestly Jim throwing Batman around like a rag doll was absolutely unbelievable. But when they stood next to each other it was like wow… I didn’t realize how in this world Jim was much bigger than Batman. And it’s like because you’re right we were so calm around him we ignored his imposing stature 🤦🏾♂️
Wait a minute, you're telling me they actually used King Snake? That is guy is one of Robin's lamest foes. Also, no, Penguin was in about one page of the book Doom. Harvey was some we would check in on and sort of care about, but that's it. Freeze had much less time as I remember it. They all serve about the same role. The book is better, but the movie is fine.
I've seen all the batman movies you showed and I loved them all, they all had an interesting premise and take on the characters that made it such a new and unique style to batman, they kept it fresh while also having aspects of the characters we know and love, you should definitely do a part 2
I actually liked Soul of the Dragon, it showed his close friendship with Richard and how that friendship was being put to the test against their old master. I’d honestly love to see more Richard Dragon in future animated movies, he’s a good dude.
You know, the story was good, but the Batman himself didn't interest me as much. But I find it funny that when Russian Superman exists, Batman also has to be Russian. Can't have an American Superman with a Russian Batman or vice versa
I love Gotham By Gaslight tbh It was one of my favorite Batman movies in recent history, the opposite of which can be said about Batman Hush. God I hated their interpretation of Hush. So f%ckin lame.
The guys from soul of the dragon may look like mortal Kombat characters, because they're based off of the same genre of movies. Mortal Kombat was also inspired by old martial art movies, hence some of the mistakes.
Every time I see footage of that Gotham by Gaslight, I wonder what could have been. Maybe it wouldn't have been very good. But I would love to see them take a proper shot at it with current gen hardware.
To be fair, the Talia in the Batman: Doom that Came to comic has even less details than the movie gave. She even dies due to her father's actions rather than being another roadblock for Bruce to fight. For that and one OTHER element of the movie: Kai Li Cain. So Kai Li isn't even in the original comic, it's Tim. Who basically is a walking plot ehance device and nothing with Oliver is ever earned. In that regard given Kai Li is a Frankenstein of Cassandra Cain and Carrie Kelly with the Tim Drake elements from the book put in there. It gives the film a far better pathos to Bruce hanging onto his humanity along with giving Ollie and Harvey extra scenes (yeah your wish isn't really granted on Harvey sadly. The movie actually expanded Harvey's role). I really love Batman: The Doom that Came to Gotham and how the makers of the film expanded the roles along with changing them up enough (save poor Jay. Even changing the race, Jay is basically the same character). Also the filmmakers added the fallen friends/adopted kid angle which works SOOOO much better. Compared to Batman fighting a pair of werewolves. Yes, werewolves.
Pronunciation - Giles - Not like "Guile" (Street Fighter). It's said with a soft G. Like a "J", like "Jiles". Like gelato is said with the same sound as Jello. Grey DeLisle - not "delesee". It's "duh-lyle" like the "I" sound in "Island". The "Isl" portion is said like " I'll "
30:30 The bizarre thing about this is it would have been _so_ easy to rewrite this Freeze to keep his motivations in line with the original. Have the hellish creatures beyond mortal comprehension promise to cure his ailing wife in response for his service. Hell, modern day Freeze wouldn’t think twice about doing this if it meant it would save Nora.
I agree with almost everything you said about gotham by gaslighting except for Gordon being the culprit, it's too far-fetched for me. It was said that Jack the ripper could be a cop and it is an interesting take, but in this story, I don't think Gordon could be a serial killer even in an elseworld, let alone torturing his wife. However the action scenes are really cool and the other references were great too ! I think I will read the comic, like for the doom that came to gotham, the movie was meh but the comic was great (for me).
Nah, it actually makes perfect sense. James Gordon Jr. It's already in the Gordon DNA, it just usually skips that generation but strikes his son instead.
Honestly it wasn't Gordon in the original that's what made the so called twist actually a twist they basically removed an entire character from the movie and that's Batman's uncle Jake created for this story who actually travels with him from London to Gotham after Bruce completes his training with Sigmund Freud yes the historical psychologist Sigmund Freud....for those who have read the comic the Gordon twist seemed like a cheap stunt compared to the twist in the book
@@tahern8043 exactly the trend of the unnecessary twists started with this movie Gotham by gaslight and the followed it up with hush a seriously missed opportunity to not only introduce hush but also have a call back to under the red hood all of those scenes are panels were missing from hush plus hush needed to be a two parter considering how long the story actually was....this is exactly why I'm dreading the 3 part crisis on infinite earths movie cause they will yet again do some different things and call it a twist
Gotham By Gaslight is a terrible adaption of the first Elseworlds comic. Everything in the comic was changed in the film, There was no Catwoman, Posion Ivy, or any version of the robins, Batman did not have a motor bike, and Gordon is not Jack The Ripper, that was Jacob Parker, who was killing women who resembled Martha Wayne, after he was rejected by her and she laughed in his face. They missed including a great scene where Bruce was talking to sigmund Freud.
Batman: Soul of the Dragon is an AMAZING film and actually one of my favorite Batman films (bar one more in this video). You're just viewing it in the wrong lenses. See, the reason why it's amazing is because every protagonist character used in the flick (Batman, Richard Dragon, Bronze Tiger, and Lady Shiva) were cherished characters by Denny O'Neil (three of them began in the Richard Dragon comics by O'Neil in the 70s, later on he brought Tiger into Batman along with Richard/Shiva. Though the later two showed up in the Question). The whole film is a love letter Denny O'Neil and in a way those inspired by him. You view the film in that regard, it becomes much better experience.
Gotham by Gaslight was decent until the climax, which just felt too bizarre to me. I also felt a little thrown with how Penguin was teased early on, then basically ignored. Same with Manbat, that was a red herring. I'm also extremely tired of Ra's al-Guhl (spelling) and the League of Shadows. Talia reminded me of Curare which was cool, but still. Not the worst movie, but not the best either.
@@kubamcmillan3078 No, I'm a big Mythos fan. It wasn't bizarre in general to me, just with where I thought they were going. I really thought Penguin was the Lovecraftian element, they hinted strongly at that right off the bat. I don't know what I was expecting I guess

The "weird ones" from the DCAU I enjoy as their own thing, along the lines of the Elsewhere books. I'm not a huge supers fan (live action ones have me burnt), the DCAU is a slight departure from the comic books & graphic novels because of the change in media type. You have to change things around for pacing, visuals, ect because of the change in media. When I hear people bitching about the DC live action stuff, or when I am bitching about the Marvel movies being the same recycled story line since Iron Man I mention that the only franchise that has mature story lines tend to be the DCAU (there are flaws in them) but they by far a superior product when you compare them to other mainstream labels. At least with the DCAU I get done watching it and i don;t feel like my intelligence has been beat over the head with a dead fish of mediocrity or bordem at knowing every beat that will take place in the movie 5 minutes before it happens.

No, as it turns out, Penguin and Harvey Dent have exactly the same role in the comic as they do in the movie.
Also, Gotham by Gaslighting.
Gotham by Gaslight, Gotham by Gatekeep, Gotham by Girlboss
Gotham by Ghostbusting
Harvey Dent had a bit more of a role in the comic (not by too much), but the Penguin is exactly the same. I think he only appears in one panel.
Gotham by Gaslight is the so-called loose adaptation of the great graphic novel!!!
