Just to clarify a few things: I definitely overstated the whole, guns and killing thing towards the beginning, and the few times I mention Gotham by Gaslight, I’m not trying to put that story down.
Batman and Lovecraftian cosmic horror mysteries are made for each other. It allows him to be at his finest as a warrior and a super genius polymathic intellectual while keeping him close to his roots as the world's greatest detective. I love this comic and film. If only a version of the adaptation of it was set in modern times.
It isn't Cthulhu, The Lurker at the Threshold is actually Yog-sothoth, a different god from Lovecraft's writing, who appears in the short story "The Lurker at the Threshold."
The lurker at the threshold is more like Yogsotha not Cthulhu. A significantly more powerful being than Cthulhu and knows all, sees all, and is omnipresent
This was a very well put together video that did good at keeping me who clicked on the wrong video interested throughout the whole video. I know other people have commented similar things on other small channels but I thought your channel was bigger and more well known just from the video itself. I hope your UA-cam channel does great and that you always enjoy what you upload.
Thank you so much, that means a lot, I’ve been working at this stuff for a while and I’m glad I’ve gotten as far as I have, hope you achieve your goals too!
Based on how well done this video was I thought you’d must have done hundreds of videos in this format. This was very good and I really enjoyed it, great work.
I read the comic book first and didn’t even know there was a movie until I saw this video, thanks for letting us know about it. Great video by the way, really well put together.
Having recently watched The Amazing Screw on Head's pilot based on Mike Mignola's comic. It's such a shame they didn't use his art style in this similar to that. Heck I would've taken even the Hellboy animated movies style while watered down still encapsulates the angular sharp style Mike is known for. And that's not to say the movie is ugly, I just wish these animated DC movies would look more distinct from one another more often and change it up. Good vid.
As someone who also enjoys comparing adaptations to the thing they're based on, you did a great job, looking forward to seeing anything you come up with next
Jeffery Combs was a good pick for this movie. Not just because of his prior work within DC, but he's also most famous for his roles in horror movies based off of Lovecraft's writing, like Re-Animator and From Beyond.
When I saw the trailer I thought the movie would be a total lackluster letdown so I put it off for a while. When I finally watched it today, I was stunned at how good it was.
David Dastalmachian actually does a ton of weird DC stuff, he plays some minor villains on Gotham & the Flash and even voices the Flash in, of all projects, the RWBY x Justice League movies
@@thenerddesk111 it’s an anime-influenced web show that’s been running for a while now. The studio that produced it, Rooster Teeth, got bought by WB, they made some crossover comics, then adapted them into movies in the show’s style, then WB closed the studio. They’re not great watches honestly, but I’ve kinda got a soft spot for ‘em, they’re effectively time capsules from DC animation’s lowpoint and Rooster Teeth’s downfall and a neat little blip in DC’s history.
holy fuck, I clicked on the video, only to look down and be shocked at the low view count. your quality is very high bro, you'll get good views easily.
I’m actually going to be directing a short film that I wrote that’s based on the King in Yellow. Who makes an appearance in the background as madness slowly seeps into the main character of the story. I’ll start production after the summer.
Honestly this movie failed as both a batman adaptation and Lovecraft adaptation. If you want a better DC vs eldrich god story, I'd recommend Justice League New Frontier. Yes it's more of an homage to the entire DC universe but the and the eldrich god takes a back seat for most of the story, but what little time spent on it is used rather efficiently.
I'm ngl, I don't fw elseworlds Batman that much. That's just me tho I prefer a modern day Batman doin regular Batman things but I do appreciate that they will use him in such different ways for other readers and viewers

Modern times are nowhere near as good as period piece settings. Batman stories need to be set in this time period more often.
Batmant City of Madness is a Lovecraftian present day story and it's very good.
With Arkham Asylum being taken from Lovecraft...
It isn't Cthulhu, The Lurker at the Threshold is actually Yog-sothoth, a different god from Lovecraft's writing, who appears in the short story "The Lurker at the Threshold."
When Green Arrow in comic talks about the things he's hunted I think he mentions Gorilla Grodd I kinda wish that was in the movie
I must’ve missed that, but that sounds sick!
The lurker at the threshold is more like Yogsotha not Cthulhu. A significantly more powerful being than Cthulhu and knows all, sees all, and is omnipresent
Ah, yeah my Lovecraft knowledge isn’t what it used to be, thank you.

Of course dude, making these videos is gonna be fun.
As far as killing goes Batman's rule applies moatly to human or sentient beings. Monsters or undead are generally fair game.

Thank you, and I agree for sure, art style could made this movie way better.

Thank you!! I just actually released a comparison of Old Man Logan, the Wolverine book!
Good video! 😊
I enjoyed the video. Definitely subscribing
Thank you so much!

I did see a lot of that in his credits when I was researching, he’s such a unique actor in my opinion.
When I saw the trailer I thought the movie would be a total lackluster letdown so I put it off for a while. When I finally watched it today, I was stunned at how good it was.
I saw this trade at my local library and was interested. The art being almost like Mignola’s art but not by him kinda trips me out 😂
I get that, he’s got such a unique pair style
I really thought that I will hate this movie but I loved it
Really like this video essay content, hope you haven’t given up on animation though
Oh definitely not, I’ve got a few things planned in the works coming out eventually.
I hope you do something like this for Justice League the New Frontier and its adaptation.
Maybe! I just did one on Wolverine and then the next one will be dc again
David Dastalmachian actually does a ton of weird DC stuff, he plays some minor villains on Gotham & the Flash and even voices the Flash in, of all projects, the RWBY x Justice League movies
Similar to Alan Tudyk in that way then, but I have no clue what RWBY is 😂

Ah, ok. That’s pretty cool, even if there weren’t all that great, cool to see unique stuff like that.

Best of luck to you! I’ll be sure to check that out.
Next check out Batman Soul of the Dragon. Same voice for Batman here first voiced Batsy there. I think it's great.
I’ll put it on my list!
You should do this with “brightburn” great video btw 🔥
Thank you, but does brightburn have a comic it’s based on?
@@thenerddesk111 yes I believe it was was inspired by a dc Halloween special called “bump in the night” featuring Superman but I could be mistaken
I’ll look into, thanks for the recommendation!
No guns in the movie version?
That was the best part damnit
lol, no unfortunately
Now gotham by gaslight
At some point I’m the future for sure
Wait there was a new animated movie????
Yes! Came out mid 2023 if I remember correctly.
Honestly this movie failed as both a batman adaptation and Lovecraft adaptation.

I honestly haven’t read new frontier, so I’m interested to see what you’re referring to.

He doesn't kill in either version
Yeah, like I mentioned in the video captions I definitely overrated that point, I originally just wanted to talk about his gun use.
What's wrong with the cat can someone tell me the name here?
The cat?
@@thenerddesk111 hp Lovecrafts cat
Oh, I’d just look it up, I can’t exactly say it.

I respect that, elseworlds Batman can be really confusing sometimes.
