Who?
@@toxsunhe’s the main artist in the comics that were shown in the video
bro what😂
I loved The Joker. The whole time youre like "where tf is Batman?!" And when he finally shows up you finally breathe a sigh of relief.
I love when darker and edgier stories do that like torchwood children of earth for another example
Joker was definitely one of the best graphic novels out there.
It's probably not the first time that a comic book has introduced villain's perspective of the world but, Joker was very realistic and grounded, important for the universe also.
Personally I didn't like the ending to Damned, the wording of "I wish he were still alive" just feels really contrived and out of character to justify the ending, I don't care much they bait their dynamic as romantic, if the Joker died of a prostate cancer Bats would sleep easy for the first time in his life. I think he would've worked better if he said something to the effect of "I wish I didn't do it", reframing Batman's guilt as directed to breaking his code rather than the worst person since Hitler dying in his vicinity.
🤣IK??? Whatever, RIP Batman's boyfriend (his other one)
I actually never thought of joker contacting an actual disease and just dying like that. Bruce probably wouldn't even feel all that bad, maybe a "damn" at most.
I really know what you mean. I feel like the exact same twist could have been pulled off with the switcheroo while having him phrase that better
He wants to rehabilitate villains. He doesn't just want to kill them. He wouldn't be relieved; he would feel disturbed. After all, he created the Joker.
Yeah I was never personally a fan of the idea Batman would hate when the Joker dies. I always felt like that would be a huge weight lifted off his shoulders. The other way around makes sense, as the Joker is mentally unwell.
Oh and In the panel with joker coming out of the water aside from it being a cool killing joke homage, the lights from the city in the background spell out "HA HA" It's so dope and easy to miss
Unexpected but appreciated "ForrestFire101" reference
I had a friend in high school with a UA-cam channel named forestfire101
If we were to get another installment / sequel to Damned, I hope it's Red Hood book - exploring Bruce and Jason's relationship and how the Joker destroyed it.
Toss in Barbara and Gordon
I've been asking for this since 2019, bermejo is working on another secret batman project so I hope it's red hood
Bruce's insane need to never kill (never-ever) would destroy it just as much. Especially this one's.
I hope this one performs well enough to buy you a house and get some tail.
Next to the ocean with 4 bathrooms at least
Fr😂@@Edwardrabbit
There's not a performance good enough to get this guy laid
I am The NashVillain
It had to be said
😂😂😂
What the hell is this guy talking about actually
I love the idea of Batman originally trying to scare the kid out of a life of crime, but then unintentionally inspiring him to *presumably* fight crime (not like as a vigilante but yk) I really appreciate that. 🤷♂️
my favorite batman is still the alex ross batman
The batman who laughs just stole his entire look and his personality from judge death
I find it funny how nobody really acknowledges this fact
so happy to see this comment
There's a great video by batspecter about why Owlman is the better "evil batman" over TBMWL.
Not really but i see it a little
@@gmoney6178 they stole the entire look from judge death
The main message of this universe seems to be "Batman wouldn't outweigh all the other awful horrors of Gotham. Leaving would be the sane option. Instead, Bruce begs people to stay in Hell, with him..."
Good lord dude.
I have to agree but damn is it dark
In the joker comic, if I remember correctly, Batman didn’t say his armor was to mock the joker, he said that about the only hole _in_ his armor, which is the chin area.
Joker asks him why he leaves that reminder to everyone that he’s just a handsome dude in a suit, and Batman says “to mock you.”
Lamar roasts Franklin but it's Batman and Joker
I think the intention of the writers is to remind the audience how irredeemable Joker is as a character because he does some truly abhorrent stuff. This is a character that also happens to be as popular as Batman and he's a fictional psychopathic serial killer.
13:02 Edward misrepresented one of Batman's most badass scenes. Joker was accusing Batman of being vain, because he leaves his jawline exposed even though it would be more practical to cover it with bulletproof armor like the rest of his cowl. Then Batman drops down and casually reveals the real reason he exposes his mouth is to mock pathetic criminal scum like Joker, which triggers Mr.J so much he kills his own right-hand man.
I love lil niche videos like this that pop up outta no where. Good editing brother
The Luthor mini is probably the closest to being canon to the main universe. I still love it for portraying Lex by way of Patrick Bateman, with Bruce as his Paul Allen.
“I have hope.”
I loved this book. Also the incision on Harley was Y cut from an autopsy. I'm thinking this is batmans purgatory
I realized that while editing and watching guillemero del toros cabinet of curiosities, the episode with the mortician doing autopsies. I could’ve swore I put text in this video saying that too, but I can’t find the timestamp. Anyways good eye on u buddy
Yeah, it does read like that tbh
I fucking love that Azzarello's "joker"
He's making another batman book
@@skxlter5747 really?
why "joker"
@@jmgonzales7701 just the way I write... sry, if I would speak a about a movie a would do "joker" (2019)
@@jmgonzales7701 i understand that, sounds like i'm referring to him as not a "classical" joker, sry
*Laughs in A Serious House on Serious Earth.*
That book was so fucked up.
My man!
Only pet peeve is that batman acted like an old lady when joker slapped his butt. You'd think batman would break his arm or lay him out as a pancake but no, he just cries out like a normal, everyday, unassuming civilian and tells him to take his hand away alongside calling joker a degenerate.
@@AsadKhan-ic9qi It's part of his character there since Bruce is sexually stunted due to never developing emotionally beyond that night in the alley, Batman basically crippled his natural sexual development and that is why the Joker groped him (and sexually taunts him during the whole story). Batman didn't break Joker's arm or anything else like one would expect because he could only be disgusted by that act of sexual violence due to all sexuality being unfamiliar and foreign to him, which is different from regular violence which he understands and is able to respond to.
@@MaxAtt4cknot as fucked up as the universe that this guy is talking about. Arkham Asylum ASOSE isn’t really fucked up, it’s just disturbing af
I feel like it’s super in your face that Enchantress made the deal with Bruce when he was a child. That they had interacted before his parents died. And that he made the contract the moment his parents died because he was a scared, helpless, vulnerable child.
There was a time people collectively losing their mind over Bat-Dong. What a time.
Bruce must have left the Bat-Foreskin on another utility belt.
it should have been called the Batawang
What I really like about comic books is. You can have a favorite character and have completely different flavors of fed character that are independent in some instances and interconnected in others
People go mad over non-sexual male nudity. When I read the book, I didn't think anything about it because it was labeled for adults, it was not sexual, and it was so matter-of-fact and casual. I thought nothing of it.
Nobody wants to see a naked dude 🤢 under no circumstances damn the situation or reason smfh.
Love how bermejos batman looks like robert pattison if he was fuming with 40 pounds of muscle, and his version of joker is perfect to me, he's supposed to be sadistic and vile its in his nature to see the funny side of existence and that to him is just nothing. Existing is the joke, and death is the punchline to him he doesn't always have to be cracking jokes and being goofy like the golden age joker.
they should take inspiration from jensen ackles
5:54 I wasn't prepared for this shot of nostalgia
I’ve definitely heard that before but I can’t remember exactly what it’s referencing…
@@Hephaestus_09the only other time I’ve heard that joke is in Yugioh abridged series and dragon ball abridged but I’m sure there referencing something else lol
forrestfire101 lego batman
Man, Azzarello had quite the interesting interpretation of the DCU
Lex Luthor, Man of Steel and his run on Wonder Woman during The New 52 are easily some of the most peak of modern Cape Comics, imo.
Joker and Noel were not my cup of tea, but even I can’t deny how excellent Lee Bermejo is when it comes to how well he can carry a story with his visual storytelling alone
Also, I find it fascinating that Warren Ellis decided to reboot the entirety of the Wildstorm universe with The Wild Storm (24 Issue Maxiseries) and the first spin-off that he authorized for it…was for Deathblow 😒
I think it was released as “Michael Cray” and written by Bryan Hill (very talented writer), but how strange is it that they chose to bring it back but not immediately go into Stormwatch, the precursor to The Authority, totally for Deathblow?
Addendum: I’m aware that the Stormwatch was originally meant to spin off from The Wild Storm #24, but then Warren Ellis got bombarded with accusations left and right. I just think it’s shitty that he never got the chance to see it through and instead was treated as guilty before proven innocent
they should mak this into film
There was another short story in the anthology Batman: The World that was also by Brian Azzarello and Lee Bermejo if you wanted to check
Azzarello has one of the darkest Joker interpretations. One most people wouldn't like.
Video essays like this are the perfect shit to eat dinner too. Eating and watching show shows is hard to pay attention too. Cheers for the review and comedy
Im feeling the custom dialogue bubbles
Idk what you’re talking about they’re all legit
The book is narrated by John Constantine
Me: Oh no
that joker comic blew my mind in middle school. my buddy’s brother worked in a comic shop and recommended this one
I’m so happy somebody actually coined this term! All of these titles are some of my favorites in recent history and I’ve never seen such a dope in-depth analysis of this universe! Thank you so much for doing this. Liked and subscribed.
@ 34 seconds "STFU Bro!" LOL!!! You had me rolling! This is the first of your videos that I've seen but I like your sense of humor, your take on the story and the way you break things down. I'll be subscribing!
BANGER VIDEO shoutout to the youtube recommended page for showing me the channel
28:15 Etrigan always speaks in rhyme so having him rap is goofy, but in-line with this universe's gritty take on characters.
it does feel a lot like edge for the sake of edge
"i wish he were still alive" feels like he says this in regards of robin not joker
but those pannels with harley dressed as joker were absolutely great idea - plenty of potential there
The fact that most fans of Batman Who Laughs never read the comics, and most of haters actually did, says a lot about Concept.VS.Execution.
dudeeeeee, Lee Bermejo mentioned your video in his story.
Amazing
I can understand if you didn’t like the “joker” story but I feel like you should really give it another shot some time. It’s one of my favorites because it’s a lot deeper than explained here especially how it’s told from Jonnys perspective and he’s trying to get out that life and he knows it’s bad but it’s dragging him back but ultimately it kills him. There’s parts where you can tell he kinda looks up to him inna way and the joker is just a destructive person that destroys the things he cares about like the part (forgot how it went) but you kinda can tell he’s mad and annoyed that jonnys sticking with him. Idk it’s deeper than I explained too but it’s good I feel like it’s an overlooked gem by a lot of people
27:47
You actually made this sound so good,
Reading that part was painful lmao but you made it work, wow 😂
God i love Bermejo and Azzerello they're the perfect duo for when tackling batman or any DC related character. I hope they make another DC black label comic book with batman or Red Hood. I also hope they make animated movies out of joker and batman damned
Awesome video, and always great to see a mrsundaymovies Caravan of Garbage clip in the wild :D
He’s my absolute favourite UA-camr
I think Bermejo is like a dark version of Alex Ross. I like both for different reasons. Great video btw
Batman's ultimate villain and his true dark reflection is owlman
I dislike that they made owlman as this pure evil dude, i hope they made a version of him as not pure evil but rather a very pragmatic person with virtues and values but not really a Moral person or "good" guy like batman
@@jmgonzales7701 Crisis on Two Earths Owlman is hands down the best one.
Batman: Damned was the longest, most convoluted, and worst one of this bunch.
It was convoluted for sure, but Batman: Deathblow was probably the dullest one of the bunch
Idk man I’ve always thought Batman: Damned, sounded whack which is why I’ve never read it-but you definitely solidified my reasoning and stance on the matter
I honestly think if done right the family friendly batman can be great
So DCAU and Lego Batman
Yeah it has been done and done correctly
@PLUTOXGOAT yeah idk why people always want batman to be so dark, I like fun batman
@@Andrew-up3dr Yeah I completely agree. I do prefer the darker Batman adaptations but the friendly versions of Batman are good aswell. You're correct, he dosent always have to be dark
@PLUTOXGOAT yeah like I love the return of the capped crusaders animated film is just so nice also what's ur favourite adaptation of batman
it would be cool to see more from these two, batman or otherwise.
Something about you saying shut the fuck up bro at the beginning made me subscribe
Great work brother 💯
In between the Batman Noel skin, and the new 2022 Batman Movie skin, as well as the Flashpoint , those 3 are my top dogs in Akrham Knight I just love em
Berello-Verse. Also, this made me go and read every single book, and honestly, thinking about them all being in one universe makes it better. Doesn't mean I wan Berello-Verse Aquaman pissing in a fish but the universe thing being made like this really enhances everything. 8/10 imo.
Great video🤙
Wow this is actually a really entertaining and well out video! Hope you get more views
nah your humor actually jus fits so well with the darker batman vibe, dope asf sir
“In the deep dark lair of the Batman” brought back so many memories
I’m NGL I really love your narration and how you play around with sound design
You got a sub from me
U kno who deserve Batman Who Laughs place right now? Vampire Batman! Perfect ANTI Batman! Magic instead science,an actual monster instead of tools and theatrics, and Uncontrolled instead controlled! Plus Vampire Batman is Metal enough! Dark Night: Metal will be betterif it has Vampire Bats as the main villain
Red rain universe: hi
Run! Its the Batschlong!
Amazing job on this video
Rapping Etrigan is a good idea...
Ngl bro you deserve to do this shit as a full time job, enjoyed every second of this video which then led me to check out other vids as well and they were just as good. I never leave comments but I had to for you bro hope this is what takes you to the next level 🙏🌻
Just found this channel. Subscribed based on how good this was. I'm now searching for these Batman editions because i REALLY want to read them. Keep up the amazing work. PS. Great narration, too. A natural voice with inflections. So much berretthan the AI voiceovers. AWESOME!!!
Thanks man, very kind of you
Truly an amazing video, great job buddy keep up the amazing work
I really loved Noel and Joker, wanted to read Lex Luthor. Damned sounds terrible, I think I'm gonna skip that one unless another sequel justifies it or it's heavily discounted
18:09 what’s insane to me, is that I actually voiced the Ghost of Christmas Present in a radio production of a Christmas Carol, and I’m currently recording lines for a Superman fan project AS SUPERMAN
(Kind of narcissistic, but I just thought it was interesting)
Lee Bermejo's artwork is so realistic and beautiful. Up there with Brian Bolland and Alex Ross.
The second I figured out the specific story I knew we were in for a trip. You earned my sub
I like how Joker in this universe is pretty much a hard R version of Heath Ledger Joker
Forresfire101 reference 🗣‼ ‼‼
W lego man
when i saw this batman costume i immediately said oh batman noel because of the arkham knight skin but i did read the joker a long time ago so its cool to see that theres sm i didnt even know abt
Constantine can travel between earth, hell, and I'm pretty sure other dimensions. Why not let him break the fourth wall with a 60s robin impersonation
i only read the joker one had no idea there was this many
that etrigan rap bit was fire
Lore of The Darkest Batman Universe momentum 100
You got a great voice and a way of talking, great video to watch and listen to, thanks for the effort!
Great video boss laughed my head off 🤘🏽😂
Great video, you have a new subscriber.
6:33 so that’s the comic that Lex Luther meme came from 😂
It’s not
@@Edwardrabbit ahh well damn
No joke dear detective is amazing and we need more creator led stuff like it
If you’re new to this and want encouragement, I loved this video
I’m very un enamored with the Batman, who laughs death of the family from the 2010s almost made me stop reading comics as a whole after a few years of disillusionment with continuity
And it’s for a lot of the reasons you listed keep it up as far as I’m concerned, you have great opinions
Honestly the weirdest part for me about these is I remember my school's library had both Damned and Noel.
I wish Lee B would work on something a bit more detective focused with a bit more of comprehensive writer
Pure art harlequin striping is amazing
That Luther series seems dope. I might have to find that
I think of this universe as a Gotham version of Sin City. But it's way better than how Frank Miller portrays Batman.
Noel batsuit
Ngl probably in my top 5 favorite batsuits it makes Batman look so damn cool
Or that part in the Joker comic when he R-worded Frost’s girl in the back of the car while he makes Johnny hear it and sit in the corner. Straight up messed up.
42:40 I feel like this gives a new meaning when joker said "here's to crime" after shooting Barbara
You had me at "shut the f*ck up." At least somebody said it... Great video, and your side comments in that muffled voice were hilarious! Also, at 25:30, the mist in the tunnel looks like an actual face.
The batman who trys too hard is wack and is cringe
Yes! we need to band together and speak up on this shit 🤣
Idk about that, after reading crossed most things that are considered "edgy" or "try hard" don't live up to it.
Basically I call Batman damned twin peaks fire walk with me Batman hehehe
1:38 I just call the "I hate Batman" Universe. There's such contempt for the Caped Crusader and I don't understand why. At least White Knight tried to explain why they don't like Batman.
The thumbnail: Darkest Batman Universe…
Me:
The Batman who smokes weed..?🦇💨🤡🚭
5:53 This struck a memory with me! Some of those are still kinda funny lol
hope ya can do this full time some day :D
I sympathize with your ambition.
Azarello’s “Joker” came out that the story took place after The Dark Knight, making this Joker definitely inspired by Heath Ledger. 9:01
Nah, Bermejo said they were working on it when The Dark Knight was in pre production or something like that
This rumour has been debunked for years.
Bermejo had joker sketches drawn before Ledger was even cast. Dozens of pages from the story were drawn before any photos came out with Ledger's look, too. If anything it is 100% the other way around, all the evidence is there.
Bermejo designed his Joker before Ledger was even cast. It's a crazy coincidence that they look so similar, neither is inspired by the other.
Batfleck looks so much like Bermejo's Batman, I love it!
27:48 and 42:42 got me cracking up lmao. Noel and Lex Luthor was interesting but other stories are kinda boring for me but the art is amazing.
True, Noel was cool and LL:MOS is a runner-up for the definitive Luthor story, but the rest of the stories dropped in quality
