Nintendo's recreated its classic Game & Watch series, but added Super Mario Bros. to it. It's ridiculous and cool -- and destined to become a collectors' item on a superfan's shelf. We open the package and play with what's inside.

As someone who was horribly jealous of that kid who brought a game and watch to my house in 198X, getting one of these today felt like a win.
Hhhhhhh
Hey I was born in1984 and didn't even know that they exsited back then!
Damn right, in that kid's face! Actually, I do remember one Christmas getting a Game & Watch. My neighbor and best friend also got one and we could borrow each other's game, luckily we got different games. Fond memory, but at the time I didn't even know what Nintendo did, this was pre-NES
@@gene2u My dad also had a game and watch pre-NES!
@@zardy6845 He must be oooold. Ha! I'm Generation X, I imagine he is right around there with me
If they ever make one that would carry all the old ones, I'm 100% sold.
Maybe we will have a hack soon 🙂
I'm sure people were working on a hack before it was even released
That would require a lot of licensing issues.
It's in the making right now
Agreed
Imagine if someone could fit the entire NES library on it...Ninja Gaidens, Zeldas, CastleVanias, Mike Tyson's Punch Out!!
Pretty sure fitting the games isn't the issue. It's more that they want to charge 50 dollars for two games that are over 30 years old.
USB is power only so we might be SOL.
Don't worry someone in near future will find the way to hack this beast.
some said it has only 128kb of flash memory
@@alucard0712 Some NES games like galaxian were only 8kb. That being said an average more "developed" NES games like zelda is 128kb. Original super mario was 31kb so it's possible that it only has 128kb of flash. There is a video on yt of someone accesing the chips via service ports I think they said that the new game and watch has 8x16kb so 128. Hope it's more though, cuz it's the perfect form factor for me
Very cool. I had no idea about Game & Watch until I filmed a video in Pune, India, where this guy had a massive collection from the 80s! Now I'm going to give it a go with this and gift it to my little nephew.
I watched that video of yours and came to know this was available in 80s too! Thanks
this is so retro! I still got my old Game&Watch console, love it!
The watch aspect of the 'Game & Watch' was to sit it on your desk and use it as a clock when not playing, that's what we did at school in the 80s ✌🏼🌍
Too bad this doesn't have the kickstand, kind of limits the clock functionality.
@@Angultra good point!
@@Angultra Going to sleep mode after 3 minutes limits its even more.
@@jacekpietrzak445 That too, but with LCD screen would die in a few hours anyway so best to plug it in so it stays on.
@@Angultra So it stays on constantly once plugged? It would look great near Switch dock plugged to it if it had a kickstand.
"That is a lot of mario" -> even the presenter is Mario!
I’ve been picking so many of these in Amazon recently cause I work there and people have been ordering a lot
I love how neatly you take it out of the box...most people would just tear it apart
When it is worth $1000 in 10 years you will want that box to be mint
hope it gets hacked to put loads of roms on it :D
what
You can buy retro emulation handhelds for a that price and they even play some PS1 games fine
@@sloppynyuszi oops sorry I didn't notice it auto correct my comment. I was trying to say was the game and watch got hacked already.
Get yourself RG280V
@@GamezKiD. how abt rg350?
My very first handheld was the 1988 Super Mario Bros game and watch. The baby blue one. I put many of hours of gameplay into that bad boy! Had it for over 15 years now!
Mine too. Sold it long ago though, boxed and complete, for peanuts 🙁
🥜🥜🥜🥜🥜🥜🥜🥜🥜🐘
I got this , this is more for collectors then to really play on .
I've been playing with it to pass time almost every day since December and it's still working great
@@lindaeasley5606 yea it’s cool for what it is . They should have put a few more games on it .
Seeing the game and watch makes me wish that nintendo brings back a Gameboy advance classic editon or something like that. With built in games like pokemon ruby, link to the past, final fantasy advance, etc.
Got one for my 8yo ASD kiddo who is obsessed with classic super mario bros. This was *perfect* and what a great tribute; a classic wrapped in a classic.
I saw it in the electronic shop and was fascinated by it. I am not a gamer at all but I had a couple of game and watch back in the day. I ended up it buying it online. I guess it's a nostalgia thing for me.
When I was in elementary school I used to get one of these every year as a gift for passing to the next grade, so I have fond memories of Game & Watch.
Just got mine a few minutes ago. First impressions:
- It seems to be smaller than the original Game & Watch. Or maybe it's because I was a kid last time I played with one.
- I didn't get it for the games, but mostly to put it somewhere (like a nightstand or a shelf) to be used as a clock, so I have two major disappointments with this edition: 1. Original Game & Watch consoles had a "wire" in the back that acted as a stand. It is NOT present here, so it can't be placed in vertical position. 2. The console doesn't stay on. After a while, it goes to a standby mode, so it's not possible to see the time unless you turn it on.
Apart from that, I applaud the idea and I like the unit and the retro feeling. And it's also awesome to open one of these again after so many years.
@Justin K Nice thanks for the info
Anyone remember that game with the diver and the giant octopus?
I remember yo mama
@Terence Tan yeah I remember it was on Game & Watch Gallery
I played it on G&W Gallery, the DS version also had a hybrid Parachute + Octopus that was even better. Good fun.
Kids these days don’t know what they are missing out on haha
I just bought it I always wanted to get my hands on one of these I can't wait till it gets here
I bought it!
and I love it!
Very retro haha!
I remember when the original game & watch games came out like in 1982. Loved them all, only had one that I can remember.
I'm gonna get one to play in my car between breaks at work!
Now I can finally tell the time on the go!!!!! The days of harassing strangers for the time are finally over
Unless..... you already have a cell phone ?
@@WIllinois. he was being sarcastic
I'm gonna get this just to bring back memories for my mom (she played mario as a kid)
I bought 1 purely because of nostalgia. I member playing the gw on a cruise ship in the 80s.
No, I went to college and got a real job. Sorry your barista job didn't pan out for you....
Both replies to this are horrible. One is randomly and unnecessarily insulting someone, and the other is job shaming.
Oh man…this brings me back to grade school back in the 80’s. This was the THE gadget to be seen with and you were super cool if you had one! lmao.
Love the channel, been watching you for years but there's a super Mario game and watch already, the old blue one, you member!!
4:35 i thought the word watch literally means to look.
So when you game, people watch you, that’s what i think.
To game and to watch.
it will probably be nice if nintendo released more nes titles as game and watch games
...or just add more titles to the game and watch
Let's add:
1. Contra
2. Metroid
3. Dragon Warrior
4. Castlevania
5. Simon's Quest
6. Ghosts n' Goblins
7. Pro Wrestling
8. Tecmo Bowl
9. Double Dribble
10. Blades of Steel
@@tubernery Metroid is a possibility although as it would only have 2 games like super mario bros with Metroid and Metroid 2 unless they upgraded the hardware
Looks nice. I still can't figure out exactly what it is though. Is that the entire original SMB ported to a new kind of Gameboy?
I remember when I was a kid and had the OG Game & Watch Black & White LCD games from the early 1980’s.
This is great for parents who have kids who have never played the original Mario games.
I spent so much time playing Mario on my GBC back in grade school. Even the girls were playing it
haha I love how the packaging is retro as well.
There was Super Mario Bros. for the Game & Watch, but it was completely different than the NES version.
I had it! Bought new from Argos in the UK in the late 80’s as I couldn’t afford a Gameboy at the time
Now I hope they make a legend of Zelda one with Zelda and Zelda II on it.
They just did
@@nvictorme I forgot about this comment! That’s nice my dream came true lol
I wish they'd release an updated Micro with a little it bigger screen that's all digital. That'd be incredible, I loved that thing the size especially.
It’s pretty cool just got it this morning at GameStop. They had plenty left
Why do I instantly want to buy one of these? Damn you Nintendo!
YES to a game and watch black and white compendium !!!
Game & Watch has been an enjoyable experience so far for myself
Wow! Old is new again 🤯😱
Like your mom . Lmfao 😹
I really like handheld consoles cuz bringing them to school but im too scared for my switch so this will help a lot
I can’t wait for mine
I freaking love it!!!
1:25 - Who's gonna tell him?
Yep, it had Super Mario Bros. in 1986. Not the same version but it had it.
This guy is a fool, I mean if you're going to make a video like this, at least do some bloody research!!!
50 years from now, this will be worth at least $100. I better go buy one
Do you think the Virtual Boy is gonna get a re:release as well? Cause I heard it good for the eyes.
I just now bought one on Etsy [of all places] for $24. I came to this video to feel good about my superfluous spending.
I never touched one of this as a kid. But i had a lot of the Tiger LCD games. And also two wristwatch LCD games. Ninja Gaiden, or something, and then another i recall nothing about.
1:25 this is actually not true. There is a Super Mario Bros. Game & Watch. I own the 2000's reprint of it.
Thank you for the review poindexter.
I used to have one of them!
Just had to buy one.❤
I had one that had a transparent screen like a window pane where you could look through and see what's behind it. Unfortunately I lost the device. I guess it's an expensive collector's item today.
Crystal Screen. Highly sought after. Especially complete in box.
My child within says; Get it, get it now, pronto
This makes me now beleive we in a simulation and someone hit rewind
Where did you buy it
you know what’s weird? i was born in 1985 and was just as eaten up with Nintendo as anyone else as a kid and i’ve NEVER seen a Game & Watch in the wild and I’ve even been to Tokyo and Osaka!
Incredible. I was in elementary school in Latin America in the 80s and I could find them in my country. Me and my cousins had many different Game & Watch units, and I even played with some dual-screen G&W. I'm very surprised that, to my understanding, they were not popular in the US and other more developed countries.
@@JavierESandoval i may have been about five years too young to really be aware of them in their heyday but yeah, to my recollection they really weren’t everywhere
Saw a load of the original game and watch at Super Potato in Akihabara when I went to Japan last year, very pricey though as they were in mint condition.
I have it the graphics and screen looks expensive amazing brilliant and sounds just like the original game
i’m getting it 😀
Some of the games came with a metal holder that you could click out so the game could stand. I wish this game had that so you could put it on a shelf showing the clock
If they made one Tetris themed take my money
Just left wal-mart...they had 12 for 75% off. Grabbed them all.
do you know how many of this one was produced?
wish they sold NES games on switch like carts that you plug into it. it should also glitch out and force you to blow into the port every so often before the game starts.
Looks like my old Octopus Game & Watch!
Just purchased this today at a brick and mortar target.
Hi there, I have purchased this console, is it small and nice.
How can I save games? I lost all 3 lifes and if I'm in World 2-3, then I should start from World 1-1.
I have one of these and I take it to school And they are 100% OK with it
I'd pay good money if they make a handheld with all the old school street fighter games 💸
retroid pocket 2 +, 3 if you want a bigger screen will play all the arcade Street Fighter titles
Those glasses must be strong af, look at his eyes through the glasses.
Hello. Very nice video and brings back good old memories as well. I wanna ask a question. What is the name of the game in 2:55?
Pacman - thank me later
Can’t take my switch to work, I can with this.
Got one. Keeping it sealed. Got the games on my PS Vita.
I bought mine last night at 11:54!!!🙌🏽🙌🏽
I took the time to purchase it from Wal-Mart online and I'm looking to open it once delivered.
i need it for my 3year old kid so that i can peacefully play my switch
Would've been nice to know the battery life. And weight. Maybe people want something that is actually pocketable and lightweight. (the switch isnt) Be good to including these things in a review.
it's a pretty cool dust collector.
Send link to buy this
My wife just said, game and watch what?
I wonder if u can mod it to run other games.
OMG! just ordered mine from target, its out of stock in bestbuy and amazon.
2:52 what game is that?
It looks good
Next game&watch would probably be super mario bros 3 or 2 and with time it will go on & on with classics
Got this for xmas lol
Same here bro
Is it good as a christmas gift?
Can’t wait to see what modders can do with this thing
Just call it game and stare since you just stare at the clock
Nice
I almost wish they had the 1986 Game & Watch Super Mario Bros on it as well
I love this but I would have loved it even more if it was an alarm clock I can put next to my bed.
Deluxe model with Mario 3!
I’d pay a hundred
I Loved This Thing When I Got It! Though It Was Disappointing For It To Only Have 3 Games, One Of Them Is a Remake Of Ball, It's Still Awesome! Sadly, This Thing Won't Be Avaliable Forever Which Is Very Sad Because This Is Something People Would Want, But Nintendo Is Giving Us a Time Limit To Get It Or We'll Miss It
I would have grabbed this if it had the game and watch complications loaded on it
As a mario fan that hes mom is a mario fan when shes kid id like to buy that well i got it
Good video ✌️
How's the input lag on this thing?
1 ms
Nintendo making it just 3 games they call it a day
In 4 years, Gameboy turns 35.
I would love to see them try and release a real LCD game. Their re-release of Ball was pretty good actually.
theres a reason they didn't include the original Super Mario Bros Game and Watch on there as an extra, and its because it was confusing as all heck.
