Man I love watching ur videos u always make me laugh
I absolutely love this Zelda Game and Watch. Living in a space as small as the typical $100,000 a month bread box that is a Manhattan apartment, it’s practical and the closest thing to having an arcade 1-Up. I look forward to the inevitable Donkey Kong and Kirby Game and Watch devices.
Having it made me miss my Gameboy Micro, but then I remembered that there’s Switch lite.
Great Stuff, as always.
Are you going to check out the retroid pocket 2
With the nes and snes classics they should really release a gameboy classic based on the original or game boy color with a bright color screen and a bunch of games built in, people would go nuts for that at $60-80!
that wouldn't be $80 if the g&w is $50, it'd be more like $150
@@calinguga yeah, Nintendo would sell it for like 300
I'd honestly buy this but those fucking asshole scalpers mixed with the fact that Nintendo is probably only gonna produce anout 11-12 actual co soles to make us all fight over them 😪
I own the original console why would I pay $60 for a new one when I can just buy whatever game for $30 max?
Nice. It should be thin. Like these.
That's not a knock-off Game and Watch, it's clearly a knock-off of the Famicom Gameboy Micro! I'm not aware of there being a G&W themed Gameboy Micro, but more importantly: Bob doesn't recognise a Famicom controller?
Can confirm, I have one of those Famicom themed Game Boy Advance Micro.
I felt slightly offended when he said that it was a gnw clone lol
oh well, prolly never heard of the micro
@@nathansdump5583 watch whole vid pls
Minor note the Gameboy Micro you mentioned is actually based on the Famicom Player 1 controller
Yep, hence the roman numeral 1 on the top left corner.
I'm behind you right now.
I can believe it
Okay Wood.
I have a wood in my pants
Wood is burning 😂
Bob couldn’t be bothered to leave you a like 😂
Just here to give quick props for the intro music choice. What a bop.
His name is Mikel “Zelda and Chill”
I am looking to get the G&W as a middle ground. It is a collectors item that is actually playable. You take it off the shelf once in a while, play the games, and put it back up. I think there is enough content here for that and as a conversation piece. It is not nor is it intended to be an everyday handheld gaming solution. Judge it for what it is and what it is trying to be, rather than for what it isn't.
You convinced me! I'm gonna buy the Zelda game & watch just to play the games.
That’s what I did!
@@argent3793 I bought 8. All for just playing the games.
Its also very neat to see Nintendo bring back the Game & Watch series in a modern format.
It was exciting to me, as a Game & Watch collector.
Actually I keep both Gamw&Watches by my bed on the nightstand and play the heck out of them. They're very lightweight and are easy to hold while laying down.
i love my smb one. never played the games more than a few minutes at a time until getting it, now i've finished the first one and am currently fighting with the second (with infinite lives, an amazing feature for the casual player). got it at 50% off and i'll squeeze a few dozen hours of gameplay out of it, so it was well worth it.
But I'll actually use it as a desk clock at work.
Buy a Nest Hub
7:24 Ape Escape mentioned, we in this.
Just in case people are considering getting either of these, there's a firmware image called 'Adam' that works on the RG300x that improves and streamlines the user experience, and for the Q20, the same custom firmware for the Powkiddy V90 works on it as well, albeit ps1 performance still won't be stellar.
omygod i want to play ape escape againn! childhooood
I really like mine. Both it and the Mario one, which I picked up at the same time. Does exactly what I bought it to do.
me too
I love this new Game & Watch. It's surprising how much they improved and added over the SMB one from last year. But yes, if you want the most bang, go with one of these emulator handhelds.
Someone figured out how to hack the Super Mario Bros game and watch to add in any game within the limitations of the console that they that wanted to play. The procedure for this method is also explained as well, maybe through other videos on the same topic.
@@joshernsteen2066 Hmm, I do remember seeing that, but it's a fairly involved process that involves opening the device and fiddling with the internals since Nintendo made sure to only allow the USB-C port to charge the battery. If the method has been updated to the point where it's as easy as modding the Classic systems, then I need to look into that.
Same. I dabble in both lol.
You were paid RIGHT?? By the big N?
@@joshernsteen2066 I wish they made some kits to add internal memory to it (like they did for the SNES classic) but nothing useful came out of that hacking. I mean, nothing useful for the average gamer; if you're not an engineer I doubt you can mod the game and watch yourself.
I actually like Wulff's ad segments enough to sit through them.
I keep getting suckered into getting these for the hope of a small form factor that's pocketable and plays mame, snes fx chip games well. There always seems to be a caveat such as screen tear, small battery life and or janky low fps. I carry around a Gameboy micro with a flash cart but I'm really looking for something that form factor that plays all snes games and arcade games well.I own the pocketgo, pocket go v2, digiretro boy and soon the powkiddy a66. Companies seem to just stuff old hardware in that form factor and sell it these days as they go bigger which I have no interest in.
I have the same preferences. Do you have a recommendation for which of those to get? Price not important.
That's why I have a hacked 2DSXL. It's great for homebrew and retro emulation, as well as legit gaming, much better than most of those cheap chinese devices.
Those emulators are themed after the original Famicom/japanese NES, not the Game & Watch.
Dude, the 3ds is the (almost)perfect emulation machine for older games. It's amazing and does gba natively. :))
The shoulder buttons are uncomfortable as fuck, though.
2DS my friend, it's an absolute beauty
@@shanerpressley yesss, the 2ds is so surprisingly comfortable
Only thing 2ds has flaws in, is the smaller screens, dpad, and mono speaker. Everything else about it is amazing
The new 2ds is the best
It runs gba natively??? Even when running from an SD card?
Bob, I became a fan of your channel around this time four years ago, back when I really started wanting a Nintendo Switch. I've been an avid viewer since then. Now, four years later, I've finally gotten a Nintendo Switch, four days early from estimated delivery. Ever since I got it this morning, I went on a binge of several of my favourite videos of yours. I've always appreciated your content, the information you provided, and the loveable personality that always shined through. Thank you. I hope you have a great holiday season.
Damn, why did it take 4 years to get a switch?
@@ganjafi59 not everybody has money for it
Here for this wholesome content. Enjoy your new video games.
enjoy man 🙌🏽🙌🏽
But only the game and watch has the cute little artwork and little secrets 🥺
Personally I love this Zelda one, it's my new desk clock, I play the games and take it with me.
I bought a couple for presents as well, and one to keep sealed, in case aliens dig up our ancient civilizations and find it 10,000 years from now, I want them to have the full unboxing experience.
If something came out like that for just Ocarina of Time or just Majora's Mask I'd buy it just so I can bring it to work and not worry about dropping it like I do my switch
For portable emulation I honestly just prefer my phone, a controller, and a clip to hold them together. Meanwhile my Mario Game and Watch from last year is on my desk and I kinda like looking at it, which is more than I can say for these. Lol.
At risk of sounding like "one of those" guys...I prefer using my PSP and 3DS XL (not the new) for my emulation needs. Yes, there is a bit of awkward navigation at times to get to the emulator of choice for my games, but I just love how the official consoles feel, and I know that they are durable. The emulator devices mentioned are PERFECT for those that aren't nerdy/geeky....um, brave?... enough to hack/mod their own devices. The UI experience is generally far more streamlined for aesthetic purposes to make the overall use far more enjoyable. The collectable items from Nintendo, as much of a missed opportunity as they are, are excellent collectors items. Honestly would love to get my hands on one of them. I just rather spend my money else where for a far more engaging experience.
gotta love a janky psp hack to barley play super nes games then be another guy recomending it lol check out his latest video on psvita jail broken its a headache and its trash i dosnt even play games great the scaling is horrible and the games just look bad on it but you do you bro just gotta stop telling us use a psp hacked cause we all know that the most fucking common comment ever on here
I have both commemorative G&W. I basically got them for Ball and Vermin, it’s a cute ten-twenty minute walk down memory lane, now they are on the shelf like you said! LOL 👍
12:06 - 12:36 That's the reason it's very hard for casual gamers like me to become hardcore Nintendo fans: their games are often phenomenal in their own rights but they are mostly exclusive to Nintendo consoles and because of that, it's really hard for me to get excited for stuff that you can't even get everywhere.
Have to disagree with you on this - halfway through LoZ and have loved every second of the Game and Watch form factor. Emulation makes me feel sleazy, this is ridiculously small, and I’m more than okay with “just” three games.
Same here. Though for me, I bought this almost entirely for the original version of Link's Awakening (my favorite Zelda game). I know many others would've preferred the DX version - but that was already made available on the 3DS VC, which I have. Whereas this is the first time the original version has ever been made officially available since the original release. And since I have a lot of nostalgia tied to playing it back in the early '90s (plus, with the exception of the color itself, I actually don't like some of the added stuff in the DX version), I was very happy they included that version. No, it's probably not objectively worth the $50 price point. But for me, for the reasons mentioned, it was. I'm definitely enjoying it. :-)
I own one and I love it. It was a gift 🎁. That being said, I also have other Chinese hand held consoles like my Retroid Pocket 2.
This is not a "gaming value" its a collectors piece.
I highly recommend the new revision of the retroid pocket called the retroid pocket 2+. It supposedly plays up to some gamecube, so portable Zelda WindWaker is possible.
I think the game and watch would have been perfect if they left out Link's adventure and added in link to the past. Also, I agree they should have used the "DX" version of Link's awakening.
I picked up a 35th Anniversary SMB G&W... from beside a dumpster. It has a cracked screen so I can only see the bottom 1/4 inch of the image, but it looks good on my shelf with the power off. So I'm looking for a new screen for it.
Let’s not kid ourselves into believing the Game & Watches from Nintendo are actually to play and experience those games. They’re collector pieces through and through and with that in mind I think they get the job done for the audience they’re aimed at.
You sounds like you haven’t actually layed a hand on one…
@@nicks4802 You sound like you did not get his point. I for one am very happy to have one since I intend it to be part of my collection. I have powkiddy v90 to play all the games in this game and watch.
I got one for my kid lol. I know people collect them but the Mario bros one seemed perfect for a really small kid to start.
@@nicks4802 if that’s true then what is the Mario Bros thing collecting dust in my tv stand?? My point isn’t that they’re bad, they’re nice little collectible handhelds. And if you decide to play on them they look and play great. But these and the other handhelds in the video aren’t necessarily aimed at the same audience.
my dad and i were talking recently about games he played as a kid and he said he's been wanting to buy a game and watch. he doesn't know that nintendo released game and watch again and that's what im getting him this christmas
im very excited to see his reaction and relive his childhood
Lowkey want a Sitcom starring the Bobs called "Bob"
I picked up the Zelda Game and Watch, but just as a collectors item. I haven't even opened it yet.
For most emulation (NES, Gameboy, GBA, DS) I use a homebrewed DSi. It works great. Unfortunately the SNES games don't run well at all.
There is some games that I have seen on Ebay, that I could have bought, that worked natively on the Nintendo DSi and DSi XL only, I believe. I found them again, but they were for the Nintendo DS, and Nintendo DS lite only.
Those designs seem more Famicom inspired than Game & Watch inspired
Tbh, Nintendo should have just packed in the Game & Watch Zelda game that came out in the 80s (with two screens), and given us Link's Awakening DX, at least.
Wait, the Zelda Game & Watch has Link's Awakening on it?!
...No, I don't need it. I don't need it. I don't need it.
These devices are only for 2 types of market.
1. The collectors.
2. The ones have nostalgia for Game and watch
If you want to buy this for your kid, I suggest get a Powkiddy v90 if they like clamshell or q90 if they want the gba form. Its half the pric, double the games and you wont cry if those things broke.
As a collector, I cant wait to get mine. Although Im in a dilemma now since I want to get another one cause it looks fun to play. I was just intending it for display.
I’d still like to see a Yoshi Game & Watch, featuring Bluetooth link up, the NES versions of Mario & Yoshi and Yoshi’s Cookie, the Game Boy version of Tetris Attack and maybe put Yoshi in a Game & Watch game that was NOT included in ANY of the Game & Watch Gallery compilations?
I had a PSP for years for quality emulation, then a vita. These two do everything I need, though the new Anbernic devices are starting to get tempting. Hard to beat an OLED Vita though.
Agreed 100%.
Ive been using a psp 3000 for emulation (and obviously regular psp games) since 2015 and still rockin it. Would prefer a pspgo but they're just so hard to get cheap.
The inclusion of the display stand is chefs kiss
wait do you know or remember the intro song with the wolf den logo, it has a nice theme
I actually prefer the G&W ultra-slim form factor. It can easily slip into a small bag, which usually is my camera bag. It's something for me to kill time while taking timelapse instead of draining my phone battery. I know it's a few games but classic Super Mario Bros has never failed to entertain me.
But in reality you dont play it 2 days after buying it. Dont tell me you got 20+ hours on Mario G&W
@@JBentham1523 I'm afraid I probably did. It's not like I keep playing it for an hour straight. The new G&W allows you to stop and continue anytime so I can enjoy it for a bit and switch to other things quickly. Think of it as a fidget that is actually fun to play.
I agree. But I also agree for the price they could do a little better. Plastic buttons, slightly larger screen, Mario 1,2 3 & world. All the Zelda one is missing is a link to the past. If they combined the two with those titles it would be my most used console.
I just picked one up. So far I love it! It's a neat little handheld and I'm going to try and play through the games. Sure it's also a bit of collecting but mainly to use. I want Nintendo to release more of these with other games as well!
your adds are hands down the best I love watching your adds everyone else I normally skip through
You should try opendingux beta tho, I fixed the bad blueish/greenish screen color cast, you'd have mtp to transfer your roms, real sleep mode and much more.
hiii if ever i do buy one of those instead of the game and watch, how do i put the games in there? plshelp bc ihave no idea lmaooo
I just see them as cool collectibles that happen to play these games. I look at them occasionally and go “oh yeah thar thing” and play a bit. Of course I’m gonna use my RG350 as an actual portable retro.
Nah. I had my Zelda G&W hacked and now it has like 60 games each for GB, GBA, NES, and ALL of the original G&W games. It’s bad ass.
I have one of those zelda game and watch, never opened, I wonder if I can get any value out of it a few years from now.
Haha, the ad in front of this video was an Add for the Zelda Game & Watch
I love my game and watch. Been playing it everyday. There's just somthing about the feel of the device that I enjoy alot!
Aye bob, thanks for being an awesome and genuine dude at the meetup this morning! I'm hyped on the Mahhhrio drawing you added to my copy of Mario Maker. Also, I'm still rocking my PocketGo on the subway but I like the idea that I could get one of these new handhelds and play some Symphony of the Night on the go.
I'm not disappointed at all with the games. The 1st Zelda & Link's Awakening are two of my fav games of all time, and I can play thru them any time and have fun.
He means that Nintendo could add more games to the system. For the price you payed, three games is just a nonsense from Nintendo’s part.
@@X_Leonhart I hear ya. It's not that type of device tho. It's meant to be Zelda focused. It's just meant to be a little trinket, not an every day play-all machine. That was never it's intended purpose.
@@X_Leonhart but game and watch is primarily a souvenir, many will use it as a decorative clock, games there, rather as a nice bonus
Links awakening not having a colour option is bullshit
@@chronicalcultivation Yea I agree, not the wisest choice. Why they didn't include the color version is beyond me.
I may have missed it but, have you ever covered any of the Odroid handhelds?
I bought three and just for he clock feature, it's genius
I bought the Zelda Game & Watch to play the games on it. I wasn't disappointed. I absolutely love it. It's a way better value than the Mario one was, that's for sure.
Also, "knock-off Game & Watch?" Don't you mean "knock-off Game Boy Micro?" And it doesn't take inspiration from the Game & Watch, it takes inspiration from the Famicom controllers, hence the big Roman numeral "I" in the corner, because it's the Player 1 controller.
I wanted it as a collection item, but fortunately the excitement ran out before I bought it. I own an original GPD XD since 2017 (with Skelton's Legacy Rom) and it's still my preferred gaming device for up to N64, PS1 and most of PSP. I'm actually playing Minish Cap on it ATM; t's been a blast.
“Yeah, I used to listen to them all the time.” … EFFING GENIUS as per usual, Bob. Again, I know it seems like I’m razzing you, but I mean it every time I say it-your sponsor spots are as worthwhile the Watch as your actual content. Keep up the great work, always appreciate your insights and perspective!
The RG300X is my favorite horizontal handheld console! I like it so much I had to buy a second one. Got he black silver edition first then got the burgundy gold one afterwards. Love the color schemes of the RG300X.
My favorite vertical handheld is the Wood Grain RG351V.
I have to say, Bab has been KILING IT with his music choices for the intros lately. Keep it up ;)
where can I find the music? There's no credit.
@@treceportres when you watch the beginning he links them all in the information card
Thanks @@jacksongardiner7657. I usually don't pay attention to those.
That thing is based on the Famicom edition Game Boy Micro, there's no G&W edition.
Should I get the gold RG300X or the black one? Help!
His sponsor shout out are always fun. He puts some shine on it.
The audio is off somehow.
I use that same case for my PSP Go. It holds the charge cable and keeps me screen, which I've had to replace once before, nice and safe.
The Mario and Zelda game and watches are the COOLEST clocks I have ever owned and they were well worth the price imo
Still have my two year old Pocketgo v1 handheld, and I also have the RG300X handheld which was given to me as a gift almost three months ago. 🙂
I adore the micro, but the screen is way too small to play the original Zelda on.
I like the Zelda game and watch just fine as a collector item. The card board display is nice because it means it lives on display and not in it's box and I actually reach for it from time to time. I agree there's way better ways to play these games on the goes though.
I got it for the games last year because I didn't know about portable emulation then I want to get a retroid 2+ for my b-day this month but idk if my mom will buy by it because of the cost
These are based more off of the Famicom Game Boy Micro than a Game and Watch.
So I'm looking for a portable emulation device that can play games up to N64 what would you recommend out of the ones you tried?
$45 dollars the chocolate wood stick? Give me that money and I would send you 10 of them
I might be getting a second hand Zelda G&W, it is a very cool type of clock, also nice to have as a stand with idle clock animation, or play Zelda on when you want.
i like the form factor, not sure how comfy it will be after a long time.
but I got handheld emulation coverd for most part but its split up in 2 consoles for diffrent purposes, GBA DS & 3DS runs perfectly on 3DS console.
So i softmoded my 3DS witch can run, GB, GBC, GBA, NES, NDS & 3DS ( it can run SNES, Genesis and some more emus but i don't use it on that system cuz they ran bad).
I also use a softmoded PS Vita for Vita games , PS1 roms & PS1 roms converted to PSP eboot roms, PSP roms , SNES, Genesis, N64 ( a few), NES, & it also run other random games like Heroes of Might & Magic 3, Doom (1,2, Final ) Another Metroid 2 Remake and some japanese translations from PSP etc.
that GB Micro looking console with 4 buttons the bigger one looks kinda nice tough, I used to own a GB Micro in the past, played it alot with Advance Wars 2.
I think the reason they used the original GB version is because they didn’t want to have to find a workaround for the GameBoy printer functionality, and they wanted to keep the colored armor and color dungeon exclusive to the $60 version.
Same with the Oracle Games and link cable compatibility.
$60 dollar version?
@@Ronin7477 The Switch version.
I’ve always wanted to know this:
How the hecc do you beat Psycho Mantis with one of these?
I mean it’s not like there’s another controller slot I could plug in.
Well I already got the game and watch Zelda edition it got here yesterday in the mail and I already love it especially the glow in the dark triforce part it's really awesome
7:23 finally someone else who plays the GBA version of Mega Man and Bass. :D
Thanks man I picked up that gb micro clone to play nes snes and gba games. I really like advanced wars. I hope it plays it well. My gba so didn’t age well as far as the screen size goes and I have a magic flash 256Mb card for it too! I’ll like this better with the 3 inch screen and ips and headphone Jack it’s a vast improvement!!!
Where would you put the powkiddy q20 mini and rg300x at on the wulff den emulator tier list?
You also REALLY need to take another look at the GPi Case. The Raspberry Pi Zero 2 W just came out. It makes that handheld SO MUCH better.
0:56 I love it! Best way to play classic Mario!!! I JUMPED THE POLE because the controls are SO tight and perfect!
Your suggesting a CRAPPY experience that will be SUBPAR on every level compared to the quality Game and Watch. Crazy!!!
Well yeah this is the guy that modded his switch pro controller to make the buttons MORE clicky instead of the wonderful feel that they normally have.
I had an original gp32 back in the day and I kind of want to get back into the emulation scene seeing as hardware is WAY better now. Going to watch your vids
I got both the G&Ws.... For the games 🤣. I never had a Nintendo as a child. The G&Ws are very interactive collectors items. You are right tho, definitely get an anbernic too 💯🤷🏾♂️
Apparently, the Tribute 64 from Retro-Bit has a firmware update for NSO N64. Can we look forward to an update on the N64 Contriller video testing new firmwares?
I'd pick one up to hack if it came up on clearance (not for the faint of hart though, have to re-program the STM32 chip directly with a special programmer, requires opening it and soldering stuffs)
However these things always sell out fast soo no cheap ones for me...
I got the Anbernic RG351v for my handheld gaming, only downside is no HDMI port.
DREAMCAST!!! 🌀
I wanna pick it up real bad, but my bank account says "nah" 😂
Just a heads up, Bob, your commercial totally worked on me, unfortunately they don't ship to Australia. :( Keep up the good work!
ive had many emulators and the og pocket go , is the only one tht lived the "kid test" very sturdy device for 40$ had it for a year and its been amazing for snes and gba
Replaced the flash chip on mine with a 64MB one and flashed custom firmware and like 40 games (NES and GB/GBC). Now its awesome.
where can I get the parts and learn how to do that?
It's not disappointing. I was really happy they added link's awakening.
The Mario one was disappointing. 2 of basically the same game (smb1 & smb2j). If it had Mario 3, it would be perfect.
These are for collecting, and while I do expect features, I dont expect a 1-1000 games bootleg NES rom file to be occupying the storage.
@ndjfksnwvehsbdjckvkkfss it's the same engine
@ndjfksnwvehsbdjckvkkfss the point of a sequel is to have a new game, not the same game with new levels.
I like smb2j, but there's a reason why it was replaced with doki doki panic. The difficulty wasn't the only factor, but the fact that it's too similar to smb1 was as well.
Smb3 has the same core gameplay as smb1 but it's still completely overhauled with new features, and tighter gameplay, not just smb1s engine with new levels
How can they sell you a mario3 version in a couple years then?
I want to buy a "game and watch" for the 35th anniversary mario, bcz, when nintendo online goes off, I won't have any chance to play Super Mario Bros. legally. So for me, it’s a good deal.
I got the Game and Watch just as a collectible for my desk but I agree it could have been much more. Either way, if it's an official LoZ Collectable, then I'm probably gonna get it.
I ordered the Powkiddy X18S about a week ago, hasn't been delivered yet. I'm excited to be able to play some older games!
Yeah, got it for collection purpose.
Got the RG350M for gaming.
I will instantly buy one of these if they do one for Mario 3
My family Loved the Mario Game & Watch. Something about it made it so special, maybe it was the fact that we Only had Mario games on it so it forced us to learn and practice and hone our skills for just those games. The Mario Game and Watch was totally worth the price, Im thrilled to have it. Sure we have other emulators, but those dont have the custom screens and feel.
The games on there are amazing. Yes, I occasionally would play them. Yes, it's ultimately a collectors item
Why not also include Link's Awakening DX, Oracle of Ages, Oracle of Seasons, Minish Cap and A Link to the Past?
looking for something for gamecube, got anything that does that well?
