Hey Firas Awesome stuff - I'm a 6 month white belt, in love with jiu jitsu and your videos are top notch coaching. I've watched 4 of them today already. Very useful stuff.
Benson Henderson used this beautifully to take down Thatch in the fourth round of their fight. Ultimately led to the finish. Though I'm sure you noticed. Thanks so much for these great videos.
Love it!!!!:):) Anyone who evens thinks abput doubting the arm drag need only be directed to Marcelo Garcia.lol I remember seeing a clip of Erik Paulson teaching the arm drag years ago. Mr. Paulson's tutorial and yours are the best ive ever seen!!!
Great video. I've picked up the first 2 steps (bat and grab arm) to the arm drag from having it happen to me, but the direction of your step and where to face your chest really makes it click for me.
I like this takedown. I actually made this up and used it when I was a freshman wrestling in high school. it worked on less experienced wrestler doesnt work well on a experienced wrestler though they are to stable. they do have modified versions of it that have more tight control as you work your way to the back. But for a bjj opponent this should work fine.
GSP vs Hendricks round 3. Georges was on bottom and used the arm drag from the guard to get back to his feet. Its hard to arm drag a guy in MMA from the standing position for sure this is more for BJJ competition and street self defense.
Is there a reason why he goes to the other side of the opponent's back to do the takedown, or does it work the same way if you go for the same side of the arm drag?
+Tristar Gym Hey Fires thanks for all the great videos truly awesome! Just respectfully curious, are you any closer to doing some of the videos on the double leg takedowns? lol Would be completely ecstatic to see those:)
Main problem arises when you let go of the arm and try to get to waist control with both hands clasped. The opponent just turns and faces you again. How do you suggest doing that properly ?
push your weight forward a bit so that he’ll resist losing his balance by him pushing his body backwards. As you feel his resistance, quickly go for the wrap around his waist. You can manipulate certain situations to go in your favor if you think about it. It’s like playing chess. Force him to move where you want him to in order to set up your next move. Or just think of it as setting up traps..
Coach, I disagree that you should never step inside on that arm drag. Inside step on that arm drag can give you double leg and body lock options. If you're concerned about your opponent taking your back, drag him ACROSS his own chest.
Faiz Safdar only after breaking his grip, the opportunity for the arm drag in bjj happens during grip fighting. If you don't control that same side wrist then you can't arm drag in this way. Good question!
Someone who knows ground-and-pound can really hurt or wear out a BJJ fighter who is waging techniques from their backs. All it takes is one or two punches or elbows to slip in and the BJJ fighter is in serious trouble.
@@MaxLohMusic Just heels they can't move their feet back and they just fall over. I wouldn't do knees because I don't want to have my feet off the ground, and I wouldn't want to risk injuring a training partner on accident.
renzo gracie used this last year to defeat his opponent at the one fighting championships. i thought he came up with it. turns out it has been around 4 years ago.
that arm drag setup looks so fluid like it came out of a wing chun movie. great details Firas. It helped alot. Thanks!

Just found out about your channel, such practical stuff! I love it. Give it 6 months and I bet your channel will be huge
Glad you like it. Lots of good stuff coming this way.

3 years later
Yup its getting huge

Great video Firas. A lot of details. Thanks
I'm always impressed with how practical the moves from Tristar Gym are.

Excellent Mr Zahabi! Keep them coming!
I don't know how many times I've liked this video...
this was brilliant Mr. Zahabi, thank you! cant wait to try this out and learn some more takedown variations!
Have listened to him before alot this is excellent though. Very clear and concise. Now understand fully why he trains some of the best. 👌🏻
I love it. Looks like you could possibly hit the twister once you hit the ground.
Great video. I've picked up the first 2 steps (bat and grab arm) to the arm drag from having it happen to me, but the direction of your step and where to face your chest really makes it click for me.
Great technique as always. Thank you for your time and for sharing your knowledge!
Loving your channel. So practical and useful, love that it's so easy for me to watch and take it right to the mats.

This is a great takedown. Renzo used it in his last fight against Yuki Kondo. It lead to his rear naked choke victory.
I'm using these in HS wrestling next year for varsity!! Thnx a loy
genius this man really know his stuff
"face the drag you are arming"
Zahabi, Firas
Is this the same gym that train GSP?
Yeah.
he is gsp's head coach
You don’t need to know more right?
The same gym that trained GSP plus Firas and GSP are associated with John Danaher. All the credibility you need.
You sure know how to pick 'em! I'd like to know a bit more of how/if this would be applied to MMA.

Tristar Gym
Thank you, that's pretty much what I thought and now I want to watch that fight again haha
Renzo Gracie ;)
Perfect technique
love the move! thanks!
Nice takedown great Master
Great videos!
Very practical moves there. Tristar where is your gym placed, because i'm planing to do a journey around the world and train bjj/grappling?
Can I come ? Lol
you have to ask that for tristar...if i would own a gym, you'd be directly invited...
Haha :)
Is that one of gsp's trainers?
Nice video. Thank you.
Renzo Gracie win with the technique at 3'05 against Yuki Kondo less than 2 months ago.
Thanks sir❤️❤️
0:48 just like Wing Chun's Pak-Sau to an Armdrag (both are mentioned in jkd, armdrag I know is pg119 Tao of Jkd. [Not that it's limiting])
I don't train in any combat sport but I wonder if you could use the arm drag\bicep grip to get an angle and throw a right hook or cross.
Hi Firas, can you tell me why I almost never see a arm drag in mma? Thank's for the video :)
Leaves you too open to strikes possibly
Hey my coach said this potentially could be dangerous for my partner's knee. Any thoughts on that? Thanks!
Is there a reason why he goes to the other side of the opponent's back to do the takedown, or does it work the same way if you go for the same side of the arm drag?
Beautiful
ID LOVE TO SEE A VIDEO ON SIMPLE GUARD RETENTION AND PASSING.
Thanks
Isn't this a mat return Coach Firas?
Could you go into double leg takedowns? I see a lot of guys from Tristar with good wrestling. They have good distance and pick the shots correctly.
Yes Double leg is our specialty. More on that soon stay tuned.
Tristar Gym Thank you very much, much appreciated!
+Tristar Gym Hey Fires thanks for all the great videos truly awesome! Just respectfully curious, are you any closer to doing some of the videos on the double leg takedowns? lol Would be completely ecstatic to see those:)
Any news if you will put up a strikes to takedown video?
Nice.
Renzo used this against Kondo!

That's how I tore my ACL!! Do you have a tip to prevent that ?
Any tips!!??
@@hamtr2295 was you doing the take down or was you being taken down when you tore your acl?
Ty
NICE!!
More ground and pound videos !
Would this work with an opponent who gets collar grips in gi?
Faiz Safdar only after breaking his grip, the opportunity for the arm drag in bjj happens during grip fighting. If you don't control that same side wrist then you can't arm drag in this way. Good question!
whats the best way to neutralize a wrestle in mma
The best against BJJ fighters is be a BJJ fighter..... or not? Who could know and scape better?

nise
Looks dangerous for the foot joint of the one being taken down.
Sizzering the leg like that could it be illegal for Ibjjf rules?
Don't think so but be ready to see many moves that break IBJJ rules in the future ; )
I like to finish that takedown by placing my insteps against the back of their heels and dragging them down.
+seandavidr do you mean the backs of their knees?

@Joshua Thompson Good luck if they're a 100 pounds heavier than you, and good luck not hitting your own head on the floor going backwards.
Best
good take down though
0:50 Wax on. Wax off grasshopper.
good move
Howcome nobody knows this is the wax off technique?

works and like it! but why does he keep saying arm triangle? xD
horrible idea to throw hooks in like that from the back i could've easily broke his ankle from wrapping my leg around his hook and extending
He obviously "knows his crap."
Too sport. I personally prefer takedowns with real life application.
