I come across this video so many time. This is the only time i watched right to the end. Thank you for this video. This is the best octopus i come across in my 5years of training. Better then Grag Jones octopus video
Concise and precise. Love this format. I’m sure it takes a lot of extra effort to edit and narrate like this, but it makes a huge difference in consumability. Thank you!
Amazing. Ever since I found octopus I didn't know how to make best use of it, this opens up so much. I voted for your gym and you in the awards as a thankyou
Just a blue belt practitioner here. Hit the first sweep to a higher belt practitioner after watching your video. Thank you. Tried to do the second option as well after the first move was blocked, but his pressure did not allow me to think properly lol. Will try the second and third one as well tmr!
My first Jiu-Jitsu instructional is now available on www.jujiclub.com be sure to use coupon code JIUJITSU-JUNE and get 5$ off. I cover the reverse De Le Riva "Lock down" position, how to avoid getting smashed passed, create elevation and flow into leg locks. Hope you all enjoy!
Trying to find a video on octopus guard and found it, in the recommended I see this one and it is much better than the one I was looking for :D Really amazing instructions.
Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. THANK. I roll with Wrestlers and I have NOOO Idea how to stop this. I was going to even message you, but I didn't know how to explain the position. Thank You
Awesome video, I've been in bjj for about 5 months and I ALWAYS end up in half guard. Whenever we go to octopus (I had no idea it had a name) I always just ended up waiting for them to either pass or give up and try something else. Definitely going to drill these.
I love going negative. I do everything I can to get in someone's handguard so that I can go negative. This video showed me some moves to improve it but if anyone else that I roll with watches will learn some counters...
Nice stuff. I always try to put in a butterfly hook and elevate them from there but have had limited success with that nogi due to the slipperiness. This seems like a better option
Thanks for sharing this. My buddy at the gym has been using this and killing me with it, he showed me this video and now Im gonna drill this. Thanks coach Zahabi.
Exactly what I needed to fine tune my octopus guard... I'm a blue belt and I catch purples and browns with this all the time !!! Thank you for uploading this really helped 🤙
Hey Coach great video as always, learned alot here. Wish I could have caught the seminar! - Quick question: Can the guy on top, rather than crossface, attempt a forward roll while kicking his leg out. I have by acccident ended up in these sort of situations and often been able to use the momentum to secure head control with one arm and then often the back. If this makes zero sense i'm prepared to be very wrong and schooled! Cheers!
Very instructive! It seems to me that the top player has better counter options than the cross-face, such as 100% or even Catch & Trap the post arm. Do you have any insight to share on these possibilities?
Two questions: 1) what would you do if he creates base while being hip bump sweeped in the way the he keeps knee close to your body but just rotate the calf in opposite durection of the sweep and supports his toes in the mat, this way creates base, genwrates energy by his toes to negate your energy and his knee close the space. 2) If you shrimp in order to provoke stronger push, what if he just long steps into side (in case of the video to the side control on left side) Thank you
Awesome video! So ive encountered when im at the bottom and trying to shrimp, my shrimping leg the one that is driving me back gets blocked by their forearm or leg in order to not let me shrimp back, any counter to that?
Amazing video coach Zahabi. I saw Demian Maia uses the negative half guard to pass a lot but I never saw his opponents try this on him. If they (the bottom player) managed to get to the bottom negative position supported by one arm, what can the guard passer do to avoid being swept? Is there a way to rest the position back to neutral or have they run out of good options at that point?
Great sweep thanks a lot Firas. I tried the first sweep with a partner, as a beginner you need to be careful during the sweep because if not applied properly your partner can choke you with his both hands, and at this moment, you are really in trouble!
Coach if the guy puts in a hundred percent kind of grip instead of trying to crossface are you still able to hip bump or do you have a different response? I've played this a bit and love it but need to keep putting more time into it. Also your lockdown reverse DLR instructional is fantastic, really hope you release more material, like this video it's a pretty simple but very effective gameplan and immediately helped my game.
Don’t forget to vote for your favorite mma coach for coach of the year www.worldmmaawards.com/vote/ and for Tristar Gym for gym of the year!!!

4 years later and this is still the best octopus half tutorial on UA-cam! Thanks so much!
We don’t know about that, it’s good but it doesn’t teach you the fundamentals
@@isaacgarcia2979how fundamental do you want? This is the best out there coz is so fundamental
After watching all your videos, I decided to give myself a purple belt. Thanks champ!
???
Meaning, I'm learning a lot.
This reaction was actually very funny

Right in the bum. Ahh the ol bum sweep. Gotta love it
Excellent tech professor. There's always that one guy in the gym who is a wizard at negative half, nice to have a plan
The production of this with voice over is so helpful. Thank you!

This explanation was incredible! So many beautiful details given away! Thanks a lot for the free content!
Concise and precise. Love this format. I’m sure it takes a lot of extra effort to edit and narrate like this, but it makes a huge difference in consumability. Thank you!
Great content. This is a position that was not explained very well to many blue and white-belts back in the 90's or early 2000s. Great content.
Still to this day!
Such a good explanation, I love this position very intuitive.
Cross-body is a big problem for the guard player. This was eye opening for me. Excellent as always. Thank you Professor!
This really improved my half guard. Thank you for instructionals like these. They really make a difference.
Incredibly helpful video. I've been backrolling to counter this out of instinct, but it's good to contextualize it within a set of 'moves'.
Amazing. Ever since I found octopus I didn't know how to make best use of it, this opens up so much. I voted for your gym and you in the awards as a thankyou

Couple of guys my gym does this to me all the time. Thanks so much for video.
Thanks for posting this. Was getting stuck here a lot.
Watched this video like thirty times to get these moves down and they ate starting to work while I spar. Thanks!

Thank you coach! This is really gonna help my half guard game!

Exactly what I needed to fine tune my octopus guard... I'm a blue belt and I catch purples and browns with this all the time !!! Thank you for uploading this really helped 🤙
m.ua-cam.com/video/io7GB1lTAns/v-deo.html This variation stops them from basing with the leg as you hip bump. Cheers.
Cool stuff! I like to bait the cross face to attack that arm with a Kimura.
Damn that was awesome. Thank you!!
Thanks I’ve been eagerly waiting for this video since you announced it was coming . Great instructional!!

Coach Zahabi --- would you ever force or initiate the octopus half guard, or do you only do it as a reaction to your opponent going negative?
Love It!!
Great video, thank you!

Great video!
Thank you
Maybe some more stand up videos please?? 😊
I just voted, Team:Zahabi!
The more I watch the more I realize I don't know much about jiujitsu
How do you feel about going butterfly hook with your left foot to help with the sweep?
Awesome video! So ive encountered when im at the bottom and trying to shrimp, my shrimping leg the one that is driving me back gets blocked by their forearm or leg in order to not let me shrimp back, any counter to that?
Firas could you use this guard effectively if you have a lockdown on their leg?
I downloaded this video this goes in to "my best video" library
Amazing video coach Zahabi. I saw Demian Maia uses the negative half guard to pass a lot but I never saw his opponents try this on him. lol bro if anyone tried this on Damien Maia they would get their back taken 10 out of 10 times.
Great sweep thanks a lot Firas. I tried the first sweep with a partner, as a beginner you need to be careful during the sweep because if not applied properly your partner can choke you with his both hands, and at this moment, you are really in trouble!

Wow that gyms super getto man doing flying armbars and flying ippon seo nage throw on brick floors lol that's cool lookin mats man
Masha Allah brother.Great video.
Wow your a wizard in bjj
I prefer using the butterflyhooks
Hi Coach, if the opponent on top has a kimura grip on your far arm, how would you go about freeing it to apply this triple threat?
Would this change at all if the opponent on top is much heavier than your size?
I'm so mad I didn't subscribe to this channel sooner I wasted my whole life hahaha
We literally just learned this today in class how ironic OSS
Would you compete in a bjj match with John Kavanagh?
