Love this. Baby Boomer era was mid 40’s to the early 1960’s. The time when WWII was over and all the soldiers came home, got married & started their family, thus a boom to the population.

Incredible!! I decided to try dip powder for the very first time tonight. I have been doing DIY nails - everything from acrylic to plain polish for most of my life - but especially in the past five years. I go in spurts, and sometimes my nails look like crap for ages, my cuticles always look like crap. But tonight for some reason for the first time ever, I decided to try dip nails. Honestly, the only reason I never did before is because when I saw them on people, I didn’t like the bulkiness, not realizing that they probably just weren’t doing a great job. It seems like a lot of work. On a whim tonight I ran to my local Sally Beauty to grab a starter kit and came home to watch some videos. I mainly did it because I’m growing out my nails and one of them ripped a little and I wanted to repair it. Oh my God my life has changed forever. This was the easiest fastest thing I have ever done. I want to say thank you for your videos because while I have been watching a lot of them, I really enjoy yours and when I saw the thumbnail for this ombré I may have cried a little bit. So gorgeous! Anyhow, I love that you just get straight to the point of the video without a lengthy headshot and dialogue 😂

Taco bell is life! Fun story: right after hubby and I got married, we went through the Taco Bell drive thru in our wedding gear and everything. It was our "first" meal as a married couple. After 30 years together, it is still one of our go tos when we are craving tacos (most specifically craving Taco Bell!!) Thanks for sharing this beautiful mani and your stories. That was Gigis custom dips liquids but you can use any dip liquids you love! The slower drying the better for this technique ❤️

Baby Boomers are the babies born to the GIs after they came home from WWII. So, those of us born in the late 40’s and the 50’s. I don’t remember pink and white nails from my childhood, the big thing was bright red. My mom always had red. I was a teenager in the 60’s and 70’s and we all wore all white nails. It was very cool! I swore I would always have white nails and plaid bell bottom pants! LOL!

- it’s a stubby manicure brush! It just helps to remove all the dust and powder off the nail which can reduce contamination

I always grab the 2 sizes of eye shadow brushes.. the fluffier is great to tap ombré and the smaller, more dense is great for scrub or press ombré 💜

Love your videos! I am a brand new at dip powders and did my first set last night. Would love to try the baby boomer white tip nail next but as I learned doing my non dominant hand was harder than I thought. Any tips for an ombré for opposite hand? Or just practice makes perfect kind of thing? Thanks!!
Well, perfection is definitely an illusion! Practice makes progress! As far as using your non-dominant hand, I do have some tips!
- make sure you eat and avoid caffeine! Reduce the shakes
- keep your hand/wrist stabilized on your nail desk as much as possible
- go SLOW and light-handed
- practice on swatches if possible
- do your dominant hand first that way you’re not fatigued after doing your non-dominant hand

Totally depends on your nails and the opacity of the colors you’re using but I did 3 layers of ombré and one dip in clear 💞
I tried using the hard brush to wipe off excess powder and it moved the dip. What am I doing wrong?

YES!! I would advise not using a sheer color with gel tho. They can look grainy

I have very thin nails and can not keep a natural free edge to save my life! Do the dip powders work with nail tips? I have never tried them and this looks so much easier than using acrylic or builder gels.
Yes!! You’ll want to prep the tip well so the dip sticks to it but it works great! I’ll be filming a tip application with dip powder soon 💜
Also, did you use UNT peel base prior to the base coat? And why can we not get that peel base in Canada?!
I did.. I think Canada has some restrictions on any liquids coming from other countries right now
Honest question.. if you haven’t applied the activator yet, why is the stiff scrubby brush not taking off your dip powder? Or perhaps you are lightly brushing? … absolutely love the look though! You mentioned you would put links to the products in the description box but I didn’t see a link for the activator or the dip gel (or whatever it’s called right before you apply the powder) could someone help me out with this info? And again thanks for the content on how to make such beautiful baby boomer nails!! ❤
I got you!
So the dip base, which is glue, does air set. So as long as you give it enough time to set (only a few seconds really), you can scrub off excess with no movement. The activator makes the glue super hard and completely dry and ready to file.
I don’t recall which liquids I used for this video but my current favorites are the azure beauty dip liquids! I get them on amazon 💜

Thank you! Yes, perhaps you missed it. I definitely brushed off excess using 2 different brushes (one fluffy and one stiff) and activated in the video!

Hey Marla! How do you not cross contaminate your white with the pink? I wouldn’t worry about the white in pink. But I have anxiety about screwing up my white.
Super get it. And there’s def the smallest amount of contamination but not enough to make a difference. If you’re very concerned about it, you can always pour a small amount into a diff jar or a cupcake liner and discard it after you’re done 💙
Very pretty. I actually think when I try this I’ll flip it so that the pink is at the top. I don’t want it to look like my tips are messed up if that makes sense? I also think it would be cool to do this with light pink and light blue like cotton candy :)

I tried to read through some of the comments before I asked, I see you used that stuff brush to wipe away loose powder, I feel like that would rake all
of my Powder off. What am I doing wrong?
That’s a valid concern! But once the base sets (only takes a few seconds) the powder that’s adhered is not going anywhere. If you brush too soon (if the base is still wet) then yep, it’ll mush things up. I like to use a fluffy brush first to see if it’s dry enough to scrub.
