    I’ve learned a lot from watching your UA-cam videos so far. You explain everything great, go into detail and review a wide variety. I’m just starting the at home dip journey. I was wondering if you had any suggestions for dip liquids for natural fragile nails.. I so far haven’t had any reactions to gel or dip. I’ve never had a dip top coat though due to designs. The nail salon always did gel. I was thinking of sticking to gel because I hate waiting for them to dry. Unless you have a suggestion for a liquid set. You review so many brands and I’m indecisive so I’m struggling to settle and invest into one. I figured I’d reach out and see if you had any recommendations.

    I rewatch your Dos & Donts every time I do my nails. I am slowly improving. How do you know when each layer of dip is dry? Should I wait a certain amount of time?

    • @SipAndDip
      @SipAndDip  Рік тому +2

      It varies for each liquid on how long it will take to dry. So I would suggest waiting until you’ve done both of your hands before dusting off. If there’s a shine on the nail or a tacky look then it’s still wet. If you find that when you’re dusting off that it’s still wet or sticking to the dusting brush, then I would suggest dipping back into the jar on each of the nails and then dust off. There isn’t necessarily a set time to wait because it varies so much on the liquid, if you have a fan running nearby etc. But I’ve been asked this question pretty often lately so I think I’ll try to form it into a video for you all! 🫶🏻

    A few things that have changed my dip game:
    1.REVEL SENSITIVE LIQUIDS-Used to get HORRIBLE DIP FLU EVERY time-NOW NONE😮!
    2.Gel Topcoat- even before I got the sensitive liquids I could never get the regular dip top to work decent for me so I'd file, MINIMALY buff, do a layer of gel base(do not wipe dispersion-keep tacky) and then go in w/no wipe gel top.Works great for me.
    3.REMOVAL-Warm rice trick(Until I saw Marla Kris do this, I had no clue)Never knew that WARM ACETONE works ten times faster than NOT WARM!!(lots of YT tutorials on this) This hack ALONE saved me from giving up on dipping!It used to take me an HOUR(30MIN PER HAND) to completely remove a dip mani(including buff off top to start)!Now i can remove BOTH hands in just under 15 minutes! GAME CHANGER for ANY removal-not just Dip Powder!

I tried using less product (mainly base) on my brush as you've suggested many times, but what I've found is that I quite often ended up with "bald spots" on my sidewalls. Like, I'd go to apply the dip, and there would be clear spots where I didn't get enough product. I'm always trying to be cautious of getting product on my skin that I feel like I don't hit the sides enough. So, I end up having to leave a little more base on my brush but then sometimes get it on my skin! lol Any suggestions?

      @laurenp.3182 Рік тому +1

      i've been practicing with dip recently on a practice finger and i've found that the amount of base depends of how long/wide the nail is. • @SipAndDip
      @SipAndDip  Рік тому +7

      I totally understand what you mean! There’s definitely a “happy” medium between too much and too little. You could also try once you go over the entire nail, grab a little bit more base on your brush again and go back over one more time quickly before dipping to make sure it’s fully coated! Sometimes it can help to try other liquids too. A thinner consistency liquid is more likely to move to your skin. You may enjoy a thicker consistency liquid (revel is one for example) because it’s less likely to run all over the place. I would definitely keep playing with how much you keep on your brush though! You may just need to leave a tad bit more and wipe it off as needed if it feels like there’s too much on there 🫶🏻 I hope this makes sense!

    • @SipAndDip
      @SipAndDip  Рік тому +5

      You can absolutely do a dip powder fill! 🫶🏻 I would suggest filing down the top coat and some of the product. The major thing would be to check for any lifting. If there is any lifting then remove that before doing the fill. Then prep your exposed nail plate (push back cuticles, remove shine, dehydrator etc). Then you can dip right on top again doing full layers as normal! 🥰

    Thank you for all your videos. I am learning so much! I was wondering, after the buffing at the end, you apply one last layer applicator and then you wipe with a clean lint free napkin to make sure there is no activator, could you wipe with alcohol too to be 100% sure all activator is removed or would that ruin it? Thank you so much

    • @SipAndDip
      @SipAndDip  Рік тому

      Great question 🫶🏻 I have heard of others doing the rubbing alcohol and it seems to have a mixed response. I personally do not do this because from my understanding we need the activator to help the top coat properly dry and adhere. So my worry would be that rubbing alcohol is removing it. Totally optional on if you’d like to experiment and try though 🥰

    Hi Chelsea, how long does it take for the second layer of dip top coat to dry? Do you wait till the 1st layer is completely dry to apply the 2nd? I can’t figure out why my top coat always take a long time to dry.

    • @SipAndDip
      @SipAndDip  Рік тому +3

      For revel’s liquids the 1st top coat dries fairly quick. I’d say after about a minute or so. And then I go in for the 2nd. The second top coat for Revel dries within a few minutes. Not long at all! Each brand usually has different steps on when to wait for the 2nd. I believe Sparkle and Co glossy coat 2.0 suggests to go right in after the 1st layer. My go to routine is after 2nd activator to wait 2 min and wipe with a dry napkin/lint free wipe. My first layer of top coat is 3 quick strokes and then once it’s dry I do a more detailed layer.

    This video came just in time, I'm ordering my first dip powder kit in a few days! I do have a few questions though. If I use plastic nail tips, how would I prep them for the dip powder? Do I have to use dip powder top coats or can I use a UV gel top coat?

    • @ashleyroberts4555
      @ashleyroberts4555 Рік тому +1

      I use a gel top coat over my dip nails. The thing I learned from Chelsea is to put a layer of gel base & cure then do your gel top. Because we file & buff our powder smooth sometimes the gel top can peel off, using base helps that. I actually haven’t had peeling doing it this way

      Hiiii! Welcome to our little dip community 🫶🏻 for the plastic tips I would suggest shaping your free edge natural nails, push back your cuticles, gently buff your natural nails to remove shine and dust off. Apply a dehydrator. Size the tips to make sure they fit and are not on your skin. Then once you adhere the tip to the nail blend down the ridge where it meets the nail.
      You can use either dip or gel! Totally up to you! 🫶🏻 I also agree with Ashley if you use a gel top coat 🥰 after you file/shape cleanse with rubbing alcohol (skip 2nd activator). Then apply gel base and cure 60 sec. Then gel top coat and cure 60 sec. The gel base is optional but can help prevent peeling!
      Happy dipping!

      I agree with you, it sounds as though the base liquid + powder isn’t dry yet. Which brand of base liquid are you using? Some base liquids dry slower than others. I would try dipping each nail back into the jar again before dusting off. And then maybe try a fluffy brush as well until you’re able to gauge how long the layers are taking to dry

    • @SipAndDip

      This is like acrylic nails 💓 dip powder is finely milled acrylic that is applied with dip powder liquids instead of monomer + brush. It also has the same hardness/thickness as acrylic. So it’s much more durable then nail polish and gel polish in my opinion ✨

    • @SipAndDip
      @SipAndDip  9 місяців тому

      Yes I do! I typically leave them naked 90% of the time actually! I use peel base and pop them off within a day and don’t apply dip powder until I’m ready to film again. I don’t leave it on anymore 🩷 however, you could totally do a set and then do fills if you were wanting the strength on your natural nails but not keep soaking in acetone or buffing the natural nail 🥰
