    Hats off to you for quality work when selling a mower. I've been doing it as a hobby for years now. I do my best to provide a quality mower to a customer but do not offer warranties. I would not have any clue how the mower would be treated or maintained once it leaves my shop. Sold as is , is always in my ad with all the parts and service that have been done to it. Thanks for sharing, good video

    This is a great business to get into... Once you know how to fix them, you just have to know how to price them. I sell them all the time on Craigslist. My last one I got for free, and I sold it 3 days later for $90. There's a bit of an art to it, however... Some people want to pay less so they can resell them. Sometimes it works in your favor, depending on the condition of the mower!

    • @EliminatorPerformance

      Christopher Valdés Yessir! Love working on lawn mowers it's easy work, not very labor intensive, I get to work with my old man on our own time schedule!
      We have a lot of inventory, stuff sitting around waiting to get sold (like our 5 snow blowers) but we wait till winter to get top dollar!

    • @campbellpaul
      @campbellpaul 7 років тому +2

      I'm addicted to it! I'm always on Craigslist... I know some of the people who I complete with on a first name basis! I love the ones that don't run, I can get them free sometimes. Or old Toro mowers with loose handles... Snappers and Hondas that need the diaphragm replaced or a jet cleaned. I give the ladies a personal guarantee if they question the reliability (it's mainly reassurance). And the newer ones always are good sells because people see that they were barely used! It's a no-brainer!

    • @Yophillips3272
      @Yophillips3272 6 років тому +1

      I've sold probably about 15 of them, it's amazing what people just throw in the trash... it hurts me when I see scrappers take them to make like 50 cents when I could make $50-$100.

    I am a small engine mechanic also...... For over 30 years on and off. More on than off LOL....
    Do a vid on painting the engines for us... Or do you have one already ?? I paint mine when I rebuild one.....
    I love those older L heads in the 2 to 5 HP range they are bullet proof and easy and cheap to do a complete rebuild ...... 50 bux for chrome rings and a gasket set. A couple hours time and a good deck I can sell one for 125 to 150 ...
    You must be in Canada for a 65 dollar coil ??? New here in South Louisiana new is 30 to 40 bux... I do save everything I get and tag it or use a paint pen.........
    Plus Tard Mon Ami ...........

    I I got a hold of 8 push mowers. I went through each one New blades, cleaned carb.an rebuild, oil spark plug air filter an cables if needed. On avg. I had $60 invested in each. So I was expecting $100 for each. My motto was if it did not start on the third pull I would not sell it. I took them down to the local flea market. An sure enough everybody an his brother was there selling used mowers. Some of these guys were asking $30 -$50 bucks for theres. I did not sell a damn one. I did get offers of $30 -$50. Once a lady bought a brand new mower an could not get it to work. She asked me to take a look. I told her since she just bought it take it back. Have them fix it or get a new one. Well the reason she did not take it back was because, now this is a push mower. She said she put a gallon of oil in it an it would not work. Yeah, it had oil flowing out the airfilter down the side of the engine an deck. So I worked on it. Got a new air filter an cleaned it up. Called her the same day to pick it up. I called her twice a week for three months to come get it. Only charged $20. Two years went by never heard from her. So I sold the thing and the most I could get out of it was $125. This was a self propelled with a bagger new it sold for $325. In my area I $200 for a used push mower would be a hard to get for some one like me. But I have noticed that the pawn shops an local repair shops are asking close to that price. When I first started working on mowes some 10 yrs ago. People came to my home day an night. I was working my ass off. I would go to the store, when I got back there might be a mower sitting in my drive way for me to work on. Nows days No matter which direction you go someone has one for sale and / or they works on them. And some of work that these guys do is amazingly Bad. The local repair shop will throw some work my way when he has more work than he can handle. He knows I do good work. I still have a few people who bring me there mowers.

    In my experience, spraying carb cleaner (i.e., Gumout) in a carburetor will generally stall a running engine, and not allow an idle engine to start easily. What works best for me is to spray **Starting Fluid** in the carb (i.e., ether) to see if an engine will run. Great video, and thanks.

      @microfarmers 4 роки тому +1

      I just fixed 4 Briggs and Stratton mowers, all 4 started with carb cleaner. You have to spray appropriately 2-3 seconds into manifold. If you spray too much you'll flood it.

    Enjoyed the video. I'm looking for a good place to store my repaired mowers when I have excess inventory. Is that what you use the soft-side garage for, that is behind you in an early part of the video (at 4:15)? If so, how well does that work? I used my garage this summer because the mowers were selling as quick as I could get them repaired and listed. Now that September is here, things have really slowed down. This was my first season to repair and sell and I have sold 38 units, but I have about a dozen that will probably need to wait for Spring. Thank you.

    • @EliminatorPerformance
      @EliminatorPerformance  6 років тому +1

      cherokeefiddler thanks Cherokee! And yes, we call them "carports" as they are normally the size of an average car in terms of useable square footage. The problem is they shred apart, the doors are the 1st to go, then the bottom of the main cover! This is all from high winds as we live close to the lake (lake Erie) and the wind comes right down the driveway and that thing makes quite a bit of noise too (from the plastic flapping in the wind). But they're cheap! We got this one for like $250 on sale and it's lasted a couple years... Planning on buying a 12"x12" 8post metal Octagon enclosure, they sell them at Canadian tire for like $999 so a little more money but it'd be solid and we could board the sides for winter!

    Great vid guys, I'm wanting to get started in this I became disabled a while back and can't live off that I'm pretty mechanically inclined. Welder,machine repairs and cars but I never really messed with mowers much beyond basic spring tune up. I'm learning on my own from books but could really use help, I'm not gonna lie I'm intimidated by the riders and tractors,snowblowers. No experience in small engines, probably psyching myself out but any suggestions would be greatly appreciated as far as books, schools, certifications anything please and again thanks for the vids I subscribed. Please keep em coming and pls. Help. Thanks

    • @EliminatorPerformance
      @EliminatorPerformance  6 років тому +3

      +John Worley machines are compromised of many parts, but it's much easier to split it all up.
      Take a snow blower for example,any moving parts, but there's a front auger housing, and a rear end.
      2 main parts, of the front Auger housing, there's the driveshaft with a pulley that goes to a gear box.
      Once you break down these larger segments, you'll be able to further break them down into smaller sections.
      Always take things 1 step at a time, figure out what you don't have to do, then you'll have a better understanding of what you need to do.
      I believe that's "process of elimination".
      If a machine "turns over" then you have a good battery, good wiring, good solenoid, good safety switches etc...
      If it doesn't turn over, check the battery, if it's fully charged then you look at other areas.
      Always go step by step.
      Finally, the best way to learn is to just dive Right in, and get some experience.
      Buy a cheap rider and take the engine apart, put it back together and see if it runs!
      The worst you'll do break something fairly inexpensive, but it'll be a great way to prevent it from happening on someone else's equipment!
      I hope this helps you John, and you can always UA-cam stuff now a days, it really is a great learning tool!
      Best of luck!

      +John Worley as for school, I went to college to get certified to work on small engines and I went back for my automotive technician license, so I can work on cars/trucks too.
      You don't really need school, I just honed my already aquired skills there.
      Basically, I've been doing this stuff since I was about 14 years old.
      So for 13 years, I've learned quite a bit, but I'm still no master mechanic that's forsure!
      I learn something new every day, even a guy like me gets on UA-cam and watches a video on an engine I've never worked on, or a tool I've never used etc...
      Start out small, and work your way up!

    You've got great information to offer the small engine community and being a Tuber with nearly 8,000 subs, I would like to hopefully give you a little helpful constructive criticism. I'm not dissing you, so please don't take offense. The use of "Uh" and "Um" is drowning out a lot of your information. If you consciously think about not saying Uh or Um, your content will be much more professional. I had the same problem, and I solved it by someone also suggesting to me that I am conscious of using those uh and um's. Just trying to help out EP!! Great information! Looking forward to more from your channel. Cheers! Zip~

      ZippoVarga Hey thanks man, and yea I just edit it out now lol the majority of my vids are unscripted and on the fly, so I basically think it up as I go!
      Great constructive criticism though, I appreciate it!

      ZippoVarga literally editing a video now and it's unbelievable how much I say uh or uhm without even noticing while I'm saying it lol
      I'll have to make some changes, because it's a b*tch to edit lol
      I guess I'll just have to think about what I'm going to say, before I start filming!

    Ugly mowers don't "steal" as easy. A tip for city dwellers. However resale is low for the same reason. You see people going down the sidewalk with lawn equipment. SMH

      We order most of our parts from Stens Canada, but they require you to set up a business account.
      If you're in the lawn care business, I highly suggest checking them out!
