    Now here is a guy that takes pride in what he's doing.
    He fixed the mower so that the buyer had a trouble free product. At the end of the day the buyer just wants to purchase a mower that he can mow his yard with without having problems with it in the process.
    Thats exactly what this guy is providing!! Unfortunately he's part of a dying breed as most dont do the necessary repairs but just wash them and flip them for the fast buck.
    A lot of you guys reselling mowers could learn a thing or two from this guy.
    He's gonna sell more mowers by word of mouth and never need to advertise because the word will spread that he's selling DEPENDABLE mowers.
    I'm very glad I stumbled along your video and Welcome! Welcome to the club 🙂

    Prices on new mowers are insane!!! Nice to see that you're providing a much needed service to people who are having problems. Not everyone can drop $500.00 on a new mower. I snagged a nice Honda powered Craftsman off a tree lawn on trash day. It was filthy, but pulled through ok, no visible damage, and the oil looked ok. Took it home and I had it running 15 minutes. Self propelled worked, but no bag. Deck was in great shape, blade too. Winterized it, and gave it a quick wash. Will detail it in the Spring. Think I'll keep it as a backup, or give it away. In this area I could probably get $150.00 for it.

      Thank you for the kind words. Seems like lawnmower maintenance is becoming a long lost skill. I just taught my gf’s kids this past summer, they made some really good money. Great score on the Honda! My preferred engine brand, smooth running, good on fuel, easier to start and well built.

    I do as little as possible to the mowers I get, most for free. I just get them t run decent & sell them. Let the buyer buy a blade or new air filter. More money in your pocket & less messing around.

      Well I certainly hope your price reflects that and you're not taking advantage of buyers. I prefer to make the mower as desirable as possible so my potential buyer's market is much larger.

      I agree, he could have got away without a new blade, and wheel bearings ect... fuel lines and air filters make sense though.

    Great video. Thanks for sharing. You should make a video on where and how to find used or trash lawnmowers. I live in Toronto.

      Thank you :) Just keep your eyes open when driving around or some towns/cities have days where bigger items are thrown out. I haven't seen any lawn mowers tossed out for a while unfortunately where I live (other side of Ontario).

    I do this all year. Sold a snowblower today, a Toro S620 with electric start. Picked up go $10 at an estate sale. New starter gear ($6), sold for $50. 2 lawnmowers, cost of $10, put a starter rope on one, fuel line on the other. Had a parts mower for the rope, fuel line was $1.50. Total invested, $11.50. Sold for $90.
    And I still have 4 snowblowers in the garage. 3 free ones and one for $10, total of $50 invested into parts.
    If you do it right, it can be quick cash for very little time and money invested. If it's got spark and rolls over, it's good to tinker with!

    What is the formula for your cleaning solution? Brand of detergent, etc. Thanks.

      Spray Nine with 50:50 mix with water. Don't let it sit on the paint for a long period of time or in the sun. Mowers don't really have that durable of paint sadly so it will give the paint somewhat of an oxidized coating if done incorrectly. Then you'll have to polish the paint by hand.

      Chances are the paint is already somewhat oxidized by the time a free mower finds its new owner. After it's clean and dry, just get a terry cloth or something similar and apply a VERY light and even coat of the used motor oil that you poured out of it during the oil change. Paint and plastic, it'll deoxidize both. Then get a clean microfiber or two and buff off all the excess oil so there's no wet look anywhere. At that point, the mower will look like it just came out of the box. As long as you applied a nice light and even coat of oil and used good pressure and speed to buff it off with the microfiber, deoxidization will be fixed. Your mower will stand out to your buyers from all the other mowers on the page because of how amazing it looks.

      Soap and water is a good option. I prefer old gas, a paint brush and compressed air for cleaning the engine and Sprayway glass cleaner for cleaning everything else. The main reason I use the glass cleaner is it leaves a shinier finish than soap and water and the water takes awhile to dry. I just spray it all down with Sprayway, let it foam up and soak for a minute then wipe it all down and it's immediately ready to take pictures and get an ad created.

    I will admit that your profits are high for your area, that does interest me some, since here the mowers you sold were $60 for the Briggs and $70 for the Tecumseh. You have to be careful where I'm located because it's easy to go over budget.

      I'm in Ontario, Canada so things tend to be more and this is based on Canadian dollars making the values slightly different depending where you are. You can take a look at Kijiji which is what I use for classifieds. Even with the off season, it's tough to find one for $60.

      @@4DIYers Oh that answers my question, I'm down south in the southern united states, where lawn mowers grow on trees practically.

      I've been after a Honda lawn tractor for a while, an older model in good condition not needing much can run for $1000. But I can pop over the border to Michigan and can find a newer model still in good condition and save a couple hundred with the exchange and import fees. Some stuff where I live can get pretty costly.

    Don’t cut plastic ties the end is to sharp.That is why when you buy new they are all long .

    • @4DIYers
      @4DIYers  4 роки тому +2

      If you're getting a sharp exposed end left over, you're not cutting it right. I use bullnose cutters so it's close and square to the latching end. Been doing that for years, no issues at all.

    So, you spent $45 on a "push mower"??? You could have done all that for less than $10! you are thoughtful and very thorough, but dayallm! On a bad day i may have
    $5-7 in any mower i flip, (If that) and wheel bearings? ...NO...lube em up if you must, but dont replace unless seizing, but try to lube anyway, ittl free up.
    new blade...no...your was actually pretty worn, just turn it into a razor blade on a belt sander etc,...the plug, unless its fubar, use an air powered plug cleaner, works great.
    Im not sure where you live, but some of your supplies are EXPENSIVE! (Oil, plug etc) Note..if you are using a respectably powerful carb cleaner REMOVE carefully the bowl gasket, reg gaskets, it will melt them, leave in place the rubber needle seat, just dont wet it down with carb cleaner, it will swell and deform destroying it. if you do, rinse it fast with WD-40...
    just my exp, but it also does not take half a can of carb cleaner to douche it out, in i big can of Gumout, i may use 1/4 or less of a can, i also use high pressure air
    and dont depend on the carb cleaner to do it all. that gets spendy quick. And for washing,..nothing beats the thorough,excellent job of a good power washer!! just my
    .02 cents, and keep up the good work!

    • @4DIYers
      @4DIYers  5 років тому

      I'm in Canada, sadly many things are more expensive. Even with the terrible exchange, I can still pop over the border, buy supplies, and still manage to save money. The grease will just leak out of the bearing and it won't stop wobbling wheels. I won't cheapen out on a blade either. I'd rather have piece of mind a buyer is getting a good mower and in the past I've had people return for other items because they were extremely happy with the previous item they purchased. Still good money and I can't complain... Can't beat basically free money.

    didn't put in cost for your labor

    • @4DIYers
      @4DIYers  7 років тому +5

      No need to, the hourly income comes from the profit... You can calculate the hourly income by taking the total profit and dividing by the number of hours invested.... So 205/5 which equals to $41 per hour.

      You do good work ,That being said,If your not figuring in your time your not making as much as you think,I own a small engine shop and I operate way cheap and am very busy,$25 an hr with a $25 minimum, plus parts,One reason I can be cheaper is I own everything outright ,The other is I sell new and used parts with a 35% to 100% mark up and I buy in bulk.I too sell lots of mowers from push mowers to zero turns and tractors and all are fully serviced,Even with my parts availibility I dont make a pile o money on the sale of used stuff once you figure your time going out and getting them ,Refurbishing them and parts and time advertising and selling them and then taxes@@4DIYers
