You make Billy sound like a twat. He's an entertainer and this was not his moment, he is a normal and reasonable man to understand that. Besides, he and Michael are friends so he wouldn't want to steal his spotlight.
Billy has the intelligence to know when it's somebody elses "turn", not like these "Look at me, Look at me ! Pay attention to me !!" so-called celebrities these days.
Im Scottish and i can tell you that there is nothing else about us that we all agree on but Billy Connoly. We are incredibly divided for a modern European country on religion, politics, football. When will you ever see three amazing legends in one place at the same time like these are , not with today's bunch of useless actors, presenters, and so called comedians .
An excellent interview. Michael Parkinson always managed to let the celebrity speak which rarely happens on other shows. I've read the autobiographies of Michael Caine and they are an absolute treat.
Getting a ticket for Parkinson would have been a thrill any week. To turn up to find Michael Caine and Billy Connolly on the bill must have felt like a lottery win.
My favourite actor who lived at one time in the Elephant & Castle in a prefab. I lived a few miles away in Deptford, London also in a prefab. He is the sort of man that all aspire to be. Funny, talented, self-affacing, charming, and non-pretensious.
This is glorious. Michael Parkinson was an exceptional interviewer, Billy Connolly & Michael Caine are just exceptional & have made the world a better place.
I love his comment on if he ever saw "Jaws the Revenge"... "Have you ever seen Jaws the Revenge movie you starred in?" "No!" "But you should see the house it bought!" "Its bloody marvelous!"
What a legend Michael Cain is and how good Parky was to let him be the guest. What a lot the new interviewers could learn and what a star Billy Connelly is to let him have his star turn. An absolute joy to watch.
Two absolute legends. Since I saw Sir Michael Caine in Italian Job, he always been my secret crush. And Billy Connolly I could listen to him all day long.
That was while Mary Queen of Scots lived in France and she was promised in marriage to the future French King. When she was ill they rushed to fetch the confection she always enjoyed crying out “Marie et malade” which evolved into marmalade which we all enjoy eating. But the young king presumptive died and she returned to her sad fate in Scotland Britain.

@@ScottieMcClue there is with forgetting where youre from. I mean i'm from Oldham, not exactly a great speaker of the kings English, but i can almost guarantee wherever i moved to i wouldnt lose this accent, ok, sometimes the odd thing might slip in but with people like this its like theyre embaressed about their natural dialect and to me thats just wrong. on a related note, ive just watched another video of Americans listening to different accents and being asked to say if they were British or not. i made the comment that i had two Scottish relatives, one i could understand perfectly, the other, who died when i was 40, i never understood a word he said lol.
What a comment on today it is when we are reminded of gems such as this. I can't believe that there aren't Parkys out there now. And I refuse to believe (although admittedly I find it somewhat harder) that there isn't an equivalent calibre of entertainers. Not equal alas, but equivalent at least. It's just that the whole system's changed and we're now geared up for micro-managed three minute plugs for their latest film. And we're expected to be entertained by that. And we are. Somehow. Some valid observations there & Today the Celebs/Actors are Superstars within a few months, without really doing a great deal& then we're saturated with images & info,( we know or think we know way to much about them) So there's no mystique & nothing knew to find out ( And they might not have been much from the ' Kick off' so they're over exposed ( no Pun intended for the film industry)
Someone once pointed out that Caine collected facts that were not only useless, but often completely wrong! Marmalade comes from Portuguese, not Mary queen of Scots.
There is a penetration in the intelligence of Caine that is largely ignored by some. He is analytical about the job and about his own emotions, but without sentiment. And that has given him strength. Of course there are positions on which I would consider him to be wrong (partially down to him growing up in a different age) but I think he comes off well overall as a person.
What a great moment I had with this interview! By the way, I couldn't catch the name of the movie about the boy trying to find his friends... Can anybody tell me? Thanks!
