Growing up in Scotland in the 80's I remember my dad letting me watch Billy Connolly for the first time. I must've been about 10. I've never laughed so hard in my life. Proud to come from the same part of the world as him, and being able to relate to so many of his stories and observations of the world truly is something
I love how Billy arrives and just literally takes over the whole show. He is comedy genuis. I doubt we will ever have someone of his calibre again. Ive laughed till my sides hurt at all his stand up shows. My only regret is that I never got to see Billy live.
I saw him live in Manchester in the mid-80s, Apollo theatre, and I actually thought I might die because I couldn't breathe properly from laughing so much!
I saw Billy at the Apollo many moons ago, my guts were hurting through laughing after a few minutes and continued hurting throughout the show. After it ended it felt like I'd done 5000 sit ups.
Had the privilege of seeing Billy live and had to pick myself off the floor I laughed so hard. I also remember watching one of his shows and a joke triggered me - I literally couldn't sleep that night and was still laughing a day or so later. Truly a comic genius.
Love billy and watching him have Parkinson in stitches and not being able to ask him questions is hilarious can watch all his stand up shows over and over and still laugh my face off best Scottish comedian of all time 🙌🏻❤️❤️
I'd say he was the best comedian of all time - not just the best Scottish comedian. I am old enough to remember funny men like Morecambe & Wise, Peter Cook & Dudley Moore and Dave Allen. I loved them all but none could make me laugh until my sides hurt. Love you Billy.
I've never been a Tom Cruise fan but he definitely went up in my estimation watching this one. He proved that some Americans DO have a "proper" sense of humour! 🤣
I probably didn't discover Billy Connolly until I happened upon a full video of him on UA-cam many years ago. I was mesmerized by his physical and cerebral comedy! Sadly, after his passing, those videos are only now available in short, edited runs. This particular interview with Michael Parkinson is hilarious; I've probably watched it a dozen times over the years. Pure magic!
True legend! That gets spouted about a lot but he truly is! I’ve seen all his videos from over the years and you can’t compare him to anyone, because you just can’t! Watched him in his only performance after he’d been diagnosed with Parkinson, and although it was different. It was still Billy! Love this man!
Billy has made the world a far better place! I can’t thank him enough for the joy and rear and facial muscle pain in my cheeks, all 4, front and back have ached with joy!
I met Billy in Sydney when I was working in a clothing store. Two women had been following him through the arcade and sheepishly walked up behind him as he was looking at the tie rack and said meekly ‘Mr Connolly could we have an autograph’ and he spun around on his heels and comically yelled ‘NOOOOOOOO’ at the top of his voice and they jumped about 4ft in the air then he said ‘of course you can’ and gave them his autograph. He was a very warm and funny man.
I saw Billy in Bristol probably 30 years ago, he was on stage for about 3 hours, never laughed so much in my life, he kept going back and forwards through different stories, to this day I have no idea which were true, false or a hybrid of both but I have always hoped that they were all true
He has lifeless soulless eyes. He may be a good actor, so he can laugh on cue etc. Cruise just looks SO fake, so manufactured and false. He makes my spine shiver watching him.
Billy Connolly is the funniest man on the planet IMHO. The UK has produced a fair few good comedians but Billy is the only one who can make me laugh until my sides ache.
Billy connolly is such a legend im a scottish asian and i would love to meet him atleast once absolutly fabulous ❤have always loved him he has made me laugh so much in my life
There are people who genuinely do not find billy funny. They have my eternal sympathy. Proper laughter is an incredible high with a very gentle comedown.
Tom goes all 'Crazy Oprah' again - you know that he has no clue what Billy is talking about. Skilled guy Cruise. His Dad was a travelling salesman - hence he knows how to fit in.
Sir Les Patterson is number one. Parkinson oscillated between extreme discomfort and side splitting laughter. Those interviews would never happen today. And not a single profanity.
YES I agree with everyone here who says the Billy Parkinson partnership for comedy on Parky's shows was simply brilliant. BUT Then Billy said something spiteful to Parky, about them meeting at an event ..'Oh YOU were there' - and the relationship ended. Billy was wrong and so ungrateful, and he, Parky and everyone lost because of Billy's attitude on that night. True. Deal with it.
This is the truth. I saw Billy had a show in Glasgow.. Click click.... click... Sould out.. Another click.. 2 tickets. I called my stepdad, wich is scottish.. I am Norwegian.. Neil.. I got 2 tickets to see Billy in Glasgow.. I must have been the Only one. Want to come? .. He goes. How the fuck did you manage that ? .. Err Dumb luck I guess

Met him at the airport once
i says “Thanks for the laughs Boss!”
and he goes “i prefer trains !” and gives me a smile.
I love that Billy doesn't even need the interviewer to ask him a question before he gets going. Brilliant man!
Yeah that was some entrance from him!!

Only ever caught him live once, here in NZ in the early 90's. Unforgettable.
Billy is a true legend of comedy

You could get injured laughing with this man 😂

I think this was the only time I seen cruise laugh this hard😄😄😄

Billy's still alive😂
Huh??Billy Connolly is still alive Lady lol.
There'll never again be anyone quite like Billy.
Woke has killed off the Billy's! Never seen his like again a genius of comedy!
Ok boomer 🤣🤣@@johnferguson1680
In what way? @@johnferguson1680
Bollocks, Billy would thrive in any era, truly timeless. Name someone actually funny “cancelled” for making jokes. Funny is funny, simple as
Love Billy and Parky ❤
Parky and Billy clearly liked one another. Great shows. Loved Parky and Billy. xxx
True legend! That gets spouted about a lot but he truly is! I’ve seen all his videos from over the years and you can’t compare him to anyone, because you just can’t! Imagine being so full of life you make Tom Cruise look like a charisma vacuum
He is a charisma vacuum tho....a worm has more charisma than him. He is the same ridiculous self centred bore in every role he has every done I think.
He has lifeless soulless eyes. He may be a good actor, so he can laugh on cue etc.
Cruise just looks SO fake, so manufactured and false. He makes my spine shiver watching him.
That title is brutal when you read it first thing in the morning
Billy Connolly is the funniest man on the planet IMHO. The UK has produced a fair few good comedians but Billy is the only one who can make me laugh until my sides ache.
Agreed. And he is FUNNY without being crude or crass. A true Master of his Craft. 👍
Dave Allen perhaps
You are correct imo
@@markthomasson5077 I loved Dave Allen too.
Absolutely 😂
I don't think I, or anyone else on this planet, has ever heard Tom Cruise snort 😂
Billy - the greatest comedian ever...
I can think of no one else who fits the epithet 'Force of Nature' better than Billy. Well, the late great Robin Williams was in the same category.
Billy connolly is such a legend im a scottish asian and i would love to meet him atleast once absolutly fabulous ❤have always loved him he has made me laugh so much in my life
Had the privilege of seeing him live in 1982....nothing has made me cry/laughing since.
Billy Connolly Has Got To Be The Funniest Man Ever. With Respect From Merseyside
Billy ALWAYS makes me laugh, my whole life………
BEST EVER !!! 😂❤
Genuinely funny man
There are people who genuinely do not find billy funny. They have my eternal sympathy. Proper laughter is an incredible high with a very gentle comedown.
Always loved billy ❤❤
Legend 🏴
Brilliant
Cushy shift for Parky when Billy’s on.
you sure ?
The best sense of humour ever
Of course he is, no question!
Billy is the best very funny and a lovely person 😂
We ❤ you billy
A true force a nature❤😉🤣👌
Billy certainly wouldn't be lost on the irony of being "Parkinsons most comedic guest' 😂
One really hopes that anyone typing the two terms into their search bar will run across this video at the top of the results.
@@SuzyQ334 and the joke went straight over your head 😂
The segment at 1:40 is fucking hilarious!!
He is the funniest man with parkinsons too.
My hero I'm from Wishaw lv him please don't die my luv❤
without a doubt!
Nice to see Tom Cruise lose it on several occasions, but why does this cut off halfway through an anecdote?
Cause he's incredibly narcissistic
@@mehowkielan1984 What the hell are you talking about?
@@johnp515 just obvious stuff for everybody who is even slightly aware of psychology
@@mehowkielan1984eh?
@@mehowkielan1984 You should really delete this champ, pretty embarrassing misinterpretation lol
Be great to be a fly on the wall in Billy's house with his wife Pamela what a laugh it must be pure gold you are billy
Fair play to you billy. I model myself on you.mind you, it hasnt done me many favours so far.
The goat of British comedy ❤❤
Billy and Robins Williams on stage together would have been fun.
I recall when Robin was on with Stephen Fry - it was hilarious as Robin had to try very hard to not join in on Stephen's anecdotes.
Both he and Robin williams would just take over, you don’t need to ask any questions 😂
Comedy genius
Funniest man alive.
Holy hell… 🥂
No comedian makes me laugh harder than Billy 😅
Came here for Billy. Stayed for Tom Cruise trying and failing to keep a straight face.
I’d like to have seen Billy together with Robin Williams 😂
I would love to see that deleted scene
Billy is fantastic, but Dame Edna was always brilliant on Parky
The answer to any question that starts “Is Billy Connolly the funniest…” the answer is yes!
Billy is SO funny.
Billy is the only person who swore that she’d laugh at. He had a pass, lol
This is quite something - Billy Connolly as a bigger star on the show than Tom Cruise! But Tom just laps it up - lovely to see.
I love how Tom Cruise looses it, but doesn't try to take over the interview.
He could ask them for anything he wants, and he comes on to Barwick Green! Thas our Big Yin, through and through...
Tom goes all 'Crazy Oprah' again - you know that he has no clue what Billy is talking about. Skilled guy Cruise. His Dad was a travelling salesman - hence he knows how to fit in.
Yes. Yes, he is.
God him and Peter Kay in a film!
Ah yes, this was during Tom Cruise's crazy Scientology stage with all his weird smiles and behaviours.
We use billy Connolly and parkinson in the same sentence a lot more now
Was that funny in your head aye?
Was that supposed to be funny??
Saturday 4th September 2004
Thank You Was wondering when this was
Peter cook holds that title
Yes.
Peter Sellars was no slouch either
got to be the funniest man ever! no doubt
Billy and Robin, a close tie. After them Peter Kay
😂😂
I wonder if Billy and Tom still talk.
Hard to say if he's the funniest. Check out Spike Milligan. But he's among the very best and in the UK, that's funny.
Listen to his version of a Jimmy osmond song ❤
He was on parkinson, now he has parkinson , how ironic
❤❤❤❤❤❤
In hindsight a terribly ironic title.
Funniest Parkinson guest? A toss uo between Billy Connolly and Dame Edna
A guest with Parkinson's goes on Parkinson
I was just thinking that.
He didn't have it back then.
@@TheGreatSteveyou might forget that.
Parkinson just so charismatic.....
I would have chosen victim or patient over "guest", but the funniest certainly.
…JESUS, I FANCY ‘IM MISELLFF!
No, but at the time the most intelligent. That's where clever humour comes from and also observation.
Apostrophe positioning is really important
Sir Les Patterson is number one. Parkinson oscillated between extreme discomfort and side splitting laughter. Those interviews would never happen today. And not a single profanity.
Parky just gets out the way and lets Billy roll because why wouldn't you?

Not many people can upstage Tom Cruise on a stage XD
Billy wonderfully funny the only thing that upsets about him is his intolerance to the colour bais as I happen to like it 😅😅😅
Nah,that goes to robin williams
That time when Cruze almost died
Just typically Billy. 7:26 interview - Michael doesn't say a word until 5:19.Just let the man go...
That Tom Cruise or Patrick Bateman?
Muhammed Ali was the best on Parky.
