    I can see how the 85mm could be really useful for a dream sequence. Could convey that they are running but not moving, like how we feel while running away from a Finnish serial killer....

    • @gabrielleao1675

      Eh I think not really... We always think "more bokeh = more cinematic" but when you look at most movies and series usually the background is not as blurry as we want it to be. Take a look at the miniseries on youtube from a channel called "Paralight WorX", it looks really cinematic and they record everything using a gh5 and olympus 25mm f1.2. If the background was much blurry it probably wouldn't look so cinematic

    seems like the camera tells a different story or sets a different tone the way it isolates the subject with the 85 vs the 24. interesting

    • @KitchenCraftFood
      @KitchenCraftFood 5 років тому

      @Gianni Carandang It might seem cheap to you, but there are plenty of people (including myself) that would like a gimbal but can't shell out $750USD for one. There are a number of gimbals on the market that are far less expensive. Curious how that stack up to the Ronin S.

    My take is always mix them up but wide is almost always better for leading shots. However the 85mm follow shot can be used in very dramatic ways when the background element (the scene the subject is looking at) is important in some way or you want it to have an emotional connection with the subject. This is in part because the longer focal lengths bring the background and foreground elements closer together in the shot.

  • @WillyLau
    @WillyLau 5 років тому +2

    I think both 24mm and 85mm footage is great for gimble, but different usage. For example, 24mm is fantastic to establish a scene, like a wedding ceremony, a crime scene, or a street view/location. Because of the wide angle, 24mm can express more information in a shot. Since 85mm has a better shallow depth of field, it 's great to film the character's acting or movement. I will say it really depends what you're going to show through these shots and then choose the best lens them.

    I usually use wider lenses like 24mm or 16mm when my subject is not much close to my camera cause I don't like the wide lens distortion on a subject face and also it depends on how much movement I want, but usually, I prefer 70mm or 85mm for portraits and also when i want to make background or foreground really out of focus, thanks man for your great content

    I've done a lot of gimbal work with 16, 30 and 50mm lenses (on an APS-C camera, so it's like 24, 50, 85) - It took me a while to get used to doing the big movements with the 50mm, but it's worth it when you do. I still have some trouble with it so typically my go-to is the 30mm, it's a good balance between the ease of use for a wider lens and the look of a portrait.
    Your mileage may vary of course, I use a Sony a6500 on a Ronin-S, so it's a little overkill at times.

    • @thr6453
      @thr6453 3 роки тому +1

      Hey, I am really confused between Sigma 16mm and 30mm for my Sony APSC. I m not buying Kit lens and directly buying Sigmas. Thats why I want something versatile and from which I can learn a lot as I m a beginner !!
      Which one do you recommend according to your experience ??

    • @PetrosofSparta
      @PetrosofSparta 3 роки тому +1

      @@thr6453 I always recommend the 30mm off the bat because you can step closer or step further away. I’d recommend both in the long run, but right now I’d go for the 30mm 1.4, it’s smaller, better for talking heads and portraits and can be used for a half decent wide if you take a good few steps back.
      If self filming and vlogging is more your thing, 16mm is better choice. I tend to have that more on my camera lately and use it a lot but at the end of the day 30mm just is more versatile
