Sigma 18 35, Canon 100mm L, 50 1.8 :)
Thank you for helping me out PETER!!!

Whatever I can afford (which is usually the kit lenses)
When you said “16-35! 24-70! 70-200!” All I heard was “$2000! $1700! $2100!”
DJ Taco ouch! lol I didn’t hear THAT, but thanks for the translation
I shoot sony so I heard the same this just up to $1000 bucks more lol
I got em all! Plus 100-400. Don’t hate I literally sold my house.
Thats why I use 80s/90s minoltas on my sony. Cheap but awesome (just be aware of mold and damage) wider than 35mm is a very hard thing to find cheap.
Not with Panasonic and sigma lenses lol

Nice, be sure to get a 50mm tho everybody needs a 50mm it's small and always comes in handy especially while shooting portraits.
@@damonlawson9447 he very clearly said 50 f/1.8....aka nifty fifty
Grab the 10-18 STM as well....really nice lens for well lit wide angle. (killer video/vlog lens too)
sadly the 50mm becomes almost an 80mm in crop bodies, making it almost useless, it's too damn tight for street photography and I never shoot portraits and stuff

I generally always recommend a 24-70mm 2.8 plus another lens that fits their photo style. I have several lenses from 14mm to 500mm and probably 70% of my photos are with the 24-70. Just so good for family events, wide enough for groups and tele enough for nice portraits.
how does the lighting on this look so pretty?

Hey Peter! I'm now in a class called "Motion for Photographers" which is really a class about video by photographers and I'm actually breaking down this video with how many cuts you used, how many musical clips there are, and if the video combines video and photo. I find you to be a great photographer to analyze videos from. It's so cool!
24-70 is the 🐐
That's what I said! definitely my #1 lens!
I bought into the (very expensive) pro Prime lens hype but since getting a 24-70 I barely use anything else!
@@BlakeMadsen But shooting a prime lens for a while (not using the 24-70) will improve your photography skill
#FACTS
Not to mention that the quality is still better then a zoom. The zoom is for someone that wants to travel light and doesn't mind having a compromise on the front of their camera.
Peter is on FIRE these days! DOPE vids only
finally bought my last lens that fits this kit this afternoon. very excited! Going to Moab Utah next weekend to give all three a try
Just found you in January, and I'm not sure how many of your videos I've watched now but it's a lot! Love your style. I am a total newb but really enjoy seeing your videos! Thank you for all of the help
I’m done obsessing on lenses and equipment. It no longer matters, just going to focus on creating content and uploading
Ed Solo Vlogs word 😊👌🏾
Greta Schölderle M agree, but no matter how much you upgrade. As a content creator it becomes an addiction to want more and more as more equipment continues to be introduced to you
"a good carpenter never blames his tools" i tell myself as i drop $1000 on a new lens
Levitation It’s a good investment. But at some point in my opinion, you have to know that you already have quality equipment. I know many ppl that sell their equipment to buy newer month after month. It becomes a major distraction from actually creating content
Exactly! Don't worry about what you need to buy next just go for creating content and the lenses will come.
Love how a two minute Tuesdays turns into a 7 min video 😍 never change Peter
But there's a section in the middle that fit perfectly within 2 minutes!
I got into photography before I had kids, so I started with the 24-70 and 70-200, both L series and f2.8 and they were brilliant investments. 15 years later, lots of wedding and portraits and family photos later, I’ve only needed one diaphragm replacement on the 24-70. Otherwise, no problems.
I added the 17-40 f4 later, and a 1.4x converter (should’ve gone the 2x) and it all fits in a backpack, along with a flash, camera body obviously, and battery charger.
Yes it was expensive but good quality gear will literally last for decades if looked after, and the image quality is undeniable. It’s worth saving up for, if your circumstances allow.
Peter, I was thinking about the kit I typically carry now and the trinity is it. I had not even really thought it through. You do a great service to everyone who loves creating imagery. I am also grateful you mentioned Pentax. Us Pentaxians always feel like the market after thought and the glass is superb.
If Peter says it's good, it's good.
Hhh no shit
Unless it´s the EOS R.
Get yout own opinion.
Except coffee, coffee is gross
A message to all the kids watching this; GEAR and LENSES are NOT the be all and end all! Go shoot, have fun, teach your eyes. Gear comes and goes art and creativity doesn't.
yaaaaaas, just keep having fun
Agreed :)
Peter McKinnon 🙌🏻
Maybe its just me... but I think some of my lenses have far outlasted my creativity. Hahaha
MatthiasAI 😂 damn chief
Thank you so much for all your videos; I've learned so much about photography from them. You're a great teacher! Thanks again.
I've always recommended this set of lenses to anyone looking at getting into photography/cinematography! The perfect pairs for all ranges!
If only I could afford even one of them. I recently got a camera for Christmas (an sl2) only have the kit lens but whatever. I'm trying my best and practicing and getting better.
you do that bro! I have an sl2 as well and I had been using kit lenses on borrowed camera (and my own sl2) for 2 years until I recently bought myself a Sigma 17-50. just rock with the 18-55, it's better than what you believe!
I have an SL2 and if u want a new better lense I would get the canon 50mm f1.8 because of the crop factor on the camera it acts more like an 85mm but it's still cheap and the f1.8 makes ur photos look super creamy
JaxFox get a 70-300 f4-5.6. higher focal range than the one in the video but depending on image stabalisation, price and optics it won’t be very sharp. i recomend the sigma 70-300 DG macro as a first telephoto
Sammmmee, but I just picked up a Canon 70-300mm 4-5.6 on Amazon for super low. It’s great man
JaxFox i have an Sl2 too, sick camera tbh @bryannsx is my instagram, all the photos on there are taken with my sl2
I'm really happy it's not only two minutes ! So interesting! Thank you Peter.
Man your video's inspire me every time I watch one. Huge fan and cant wait to see what you have for us next!!
Man! you dodged one with that hat throw, 2 min Tuesday almost became to $6k Tuesday.
since when did a single lens cost 6k ?
@@jacobsack oh boy
@@loganelizabeth6622 oh boy what?
jacob sack Cinematic lenses are usually above 3k , canon 50mm 1.2 cinematic lens cost 5k , canon 600m f/4 lens cost 18k , canon 200-400 f/4 cost 12k
@@darthvader507 yeah and a Leica summilux-c is 40k per lens and a some Panavision lenses are 500k per lens.... Photography lenses, especially the one which nearly fell over does not cost 6k
24-70 f2.8 is my walkaround lens most of the time. I used to have the prime 200 f2.8 for nearly 20 years till switched!
Totally agree with your Trinity.
I have watched a few of your videos, this one I like the most because it's short, precise and to the point. Thanks.
Stunning collection of lenses. Whilst more expensive and heavy, I smile every day because I went the extra distance and saved for the f2.8s. The clarity and range is breathtaking, especially with the 2x converter. I love this trinity!
Mike - What 2x adapter did you purchase? Thanks!
I'm basically a beginner when it comes to obsessing over camera gear...so this video was right up my street. Thanks for the info Pete, as I'm shopping around for future lenses.
Droneworks - McLaren cameo shot. Nice.
This is great advice. Makes for a nice tidy package that fits in a regular size camera backpack. If one is on a budget I'd say do whatever you can to save for the 70-200 f/2.8 II. It's one of the best lenses ever made. The other two at f/4 are both great lenses and will be very adequate for most photographers. They are sharper than the 2.8s and way less expensive. The 24-70 has macro at 70, a nice bonus, and both are image stabilized, which helps you get a little slower shutter speed to let in more light at f/4.
As always a stellar 7 minute, 2 minute Tuesday! Loved it and need to set up my trinity.
I was always into photography, since I was 7 and got my first camera. But when I came to taking up my photography to the pro level I got all caught up in what lens, who’s using what, maybe this or that. If I’d only gone for these three I would have had a solid foundation. I did go with the 70-200 then a bunch of primes and a monster 28-300 pump action bazooka. Made so many bad choices with my lenses and other kit too.
No matter what you’re going to shoot, the Holy Trinity will be able to get you the shots you need, by and large.
I have now got the 24-70 f4 with IS because the 2.8’s don’t have IS. I tend to shoot it f4-6.3 so I don’t need the 2.8, except for when I do. That’s the thing with photography, there’s always another piece of kit that’ll work better for a particular scenario.
Beyond the Holy Trinity you need to know what you’re shooting to decide what kit you need. Decide on a budget, stick to it and get the best kit you can. Investing in good lenses is always better than a new camera.
Do you think its better to buy ef 24-70 f4 or rf 24-105 f4?
@@andredo4880 that would depend on what you’re shooting and the environment too.
The mk2 version of the EF 24-105 is much improved on the old one which is a bit of a dog really. It depends if you use the range between 70 & 105. Or perhaps the 24-70 is good for your zoom then jump straight to the 100 macro which is what I do.
If you’re shooting some video the extra focal length of the 24-105 might be useful. Again it all depends on what & how you shoot
@@JonathanThompsonStoryteller i usually use rf 70-200 f4 and its great but i want something wider and probably lighter. 24-105 would be good but i'm also thinking about ef 16-35 f4 or rf 35 🤷 I like zoom lenses cause they are all purpose. Some wide lens + 70-200 in my backpack would be a great combination. For me, image quality is the most important thing, which lens is the best?
@@andredo4880 the RF 24-105 is very similar to the mk2 EF 24-105 so the coat might be something to consider between the EF & RF

Jishnu what's it called?
Definitely

Lol recognized as soon as it started
I just started watching Peter’s video right after finishing Potato jet’s latest and I was wondering what kind of voodoo it was.
I'm all about the **12-24**, 24-70, and 70-200. Just love that extra oomph from the ultra wide over the 16-35
The 24-70 mark 2 is my favorite lens all around. I owned the prior lens and it's a huge improvement in sharpness, color and contrast - I've had it over two years and it still blows me away. I also have the 16-34 f4 which I like because of the price and IS built-in. I don't regret losing the extra stop of light for the value - it's an amazing, affordable lens
Same on both counts. I bought the 16-35 f/4 used in 2020 and immediately took it to a friend's place to shoot his family in the treehouse they'd built. Pics turned out beautifully. I don't use it a ton but it was a banger lens for exactly that purpose.
Peter McKinnon is the most inspiring Canadian I know! He is constantly producing content that I try to implement on my weekly Wednesday tech videos. Keep up the inspiring work!

Thanks so much for this! Awesome video! Ps your rambling rocks and I love it! 👍🏻❤️
My trinity is Nikkor 18-35mm, Nikkor 50mm, and Nikkor 55-300. While there’s a gap in the overall range, I find I can do all that I want with these lenses. The 18-35 is my go to for everyday odd stuff. The 50 has fantastic depth of field. The 55-300 has been perfect for capturing my son’s baseball games.

You are amazing and great to watch! The best UA-cam creator in photography and videography!!!
"Even if you hit the bell, we'll think about it." 😂 So true.
For my Nikon digital I have a 50mm Prime, the 18 - 55mm Kit, and a 70-300mm. So far those three have covered all my needs, I don't really see myself buying anything else anytime soon, unless maybe I swap out the kit lens...
For my now retired Canon film I have more lenses than space to store them, and used to obsess over which ones to take whenever I left the house. Today it's so much simpler having just the three. Now I shoot to what I have, instead of spending half my time thinking about which lens would work best.
Brother man, you saved me the stress of trying to figure out what lenses I want to get next. Thanks!

Loved the video Pete! and lol you almost broke your second 16-35 :D
So much for 2 minutes! But you gave us the info we needed so I’m with you on blowing the timer. Good vid!
For me, the challenge is that I like doing things that require 300 or even 400mm lenses, and if I do anything below 100, it's either macro, or something very specific. My main challenge is being limited by how wide my lenses can get, mostly due to what I can afford. The 200-400 F/4L is probably the lens for me. But also, that's more than I'm spending any time soon as a non pro.
Two vids in one day- we are not worthy.
THANKS! I appreciate a set goal to go with. I pretty close with this now I just need to get them in 2.0
Waiting till Thursday man!!❣️❣️
If you don't mind the absence of zoom I'd go for a 50mm f/1.4 (around $400, gerenal photo), an 85mm f/1.8 ($350, perfect for portraits) and maybe a Tokina 11-16mm for street and landscape. All for around $1000 instead of $3-4k, with better sharpness than zooms.
Also they work in much lower light conditions than the zooms - like concerts.
I have the same set up
Cheaper lenses that I own amd will recommend as they still provide amazing quality :
Canon 50mm f1.8 mark 2
Canon 10-18mm (think it's f3.5-5.6)
Tamron 24-70mm f2.8 G2
What's the equivalent of the Tamron 24-70 in a Canon lens?
@@mraacht there is a Tamron 24-70 for Canon EF, for ~1000€ I believe (and maybe you could get earlier version for even half of that - quite a decent lens still). There is also the L series Canon 24-70 for likes of 2500.
10-18 and the EFS 10-22 are both brilliant lenses for way less than the 16-35.
I'm happy with your informative videos. Good work!
