- You will never believe what female NHRA Pro Stock Motorcycle Racer Angie Smith did after a scary 200 mph crash that left her with broken toes and deep wounds at the NHRA Midwest Nationals in St. Louis. We catch with Angie Smith at the NHRA finals where she is still in walking boots after her NHRA Pro Stock Bike crash but ready to defy the odds and salvage as many points as she possibly can on her Matt Smith Racing Denso Buell Pro Stock Motorcycle. Unfortunately we also see another NHRA Pro Stock Bike Racer Kelly Clontz crash as well and her crew comes after us it and knocks our phone away when we go to check on how she is doing. As we explore it could be due to the heated rivalry between Matt Smith Racing and the NHRA Vance & Hines Motorsports Team. Nonetheless we wish both ladies a speedy recovery. Angie Smith was even able to get a ride home from the hospital by Tony Stewart on the Tony Stewart Racing plane. I raced an 8.5 second, 165 mph street legal Suzuki GSX-R1000 for 18 seasons. Most of my racing buddies have crashed, which I did too at age 69 after an off pace 8.66 @164 mph. My track only had 1,800 feet to stop so I always had to brake aggressively which led to my crash. Like Angie, all of us crashed stopping, not racing. but unlike a much younger Angie, after a month long hospital stay, I returned to the track at 70 years old and as I was awaiting the green light, it hit me that my old body could not take another crash. I posted an 8.60 second ET @ 160 mph, then hung up my helmet for good.
I was thinking of saying God Bless You............. But it kinda sounds like HE already did. Don't take it for granted.
When your tuff making hard choices sadly comes with age , I'm 72 . Because of a injury I can't ride my heavy two wheel old road motorcycles or bicycles. I enjoy riding my moped scooter it gets me around at events. Everyday above ground is a good one.

Yes had those Suzuki the 750 and 1000 were great machines the technology building the engines were incredible but you see

That was ridiculous you can decline an interview but she ran at the camera to be horrible and her crew would have their ass banned at an ama race. I don't know what run ins they had before but that was crazy! Cycle drag is the only bike channel I've ever seen and their doing that to him. Not real smart was it?

@MrDicko56 a woke Karen what a nightmare haha still not the drag racing community in used too from 20 or 30 years ago I'm on the cars side and in prostock it was pretty close and secret and understandable but there wasn't hate there really deep down. From Australia but so maybe it's different.

The whole Kelly Clontz Team SUCK, they super suckity SUCK IT! That's how most of us who saw them all come at Jack instantly, nastily, threateningly and violently like they did see their disgusting behavior...and WE are all associating THEIR sponsor Vance&Hines with all of the assholes on the Kelly Clontz Team too, and we should...those jackasses don't DESERVE to be sponsored by Vance&Hines after that shameful display!

Well wtf Jack? What’s wrong with people? I don’t care if they got their bike back right away and Angie didn’t, there was no reason for them to treat you the way they did. When Kelly wrecked you were honestly worried about that young lady just to be treated like shit when you went to check on her. You are single handedly responsible for keeping motorcycle drag racing alive and in the mainstream. They are lucky your a really nice guy and they didn’t pull that shit on someone who could care less. Need to check and make sure they’re dental insurance is paid up before they mess with the wrong person and wind up spitting about half their teeth out!!!!
I agree with your comment. Cycle drag is a top promoter for the motorcycle drag racing community. Karen and her team of simps could have easily just declined the interview. That team needs to apologize immediately everyone's emotions get the best of them. That teams sponsors need to have a meeting with the whole team. With all of the drag racing tracks closing it's important for everyone to be involved in keeping the sport alive.

Clontz team doesn't deserve to be in the sport. Its am honor to be in this sport. Cycle drag is always a first class, important to the sport. Shame on the Clontz team. Angie is a true trouper and class act.
Diversity drivers except Angie. Didnt the Salinas daughtet wreck a bike and take a nitro top alcohol car and flipped it all the way over. One of the easiest cars to race in drag racing next to super street and let's it blow over before letting out. These diversity drivers and there entitled karenesk ways. You dont look like a fighter and your doing your damn job. Damn good job on covering they got the bike right back and I use to think she was decent looking but she showed her physco ways for sure.

The reaction in the pits really makes V&H look bad! These teams are spokespeople for the brand, and that brand just told me to go screw myself. Guess I know where my money won't be going when I need parts. No need for them to assault you like that!!!

I had a motorcycle accident in 1981 and it was only at 30 mph, the pain lasted for 2 years.

I’ve been a pro stock motorcycle fan for as long as I can remember. Didn’t have an opinion on Kelly Clontz positive or negative. I’m always just happy to see more people out there racing. Not anymore that was brutal. I hope she DNQs at every race this season.

I can't claim to know the back story or off-camera interactions that went on, but Kelly Klontz announcing "Jack is a douchebag" is one of the most douchebaggiest things she could have done. If she and her team really are "thankful for the fans" who support racing and her sponsors, she lost more than a few with that childish move, and her crew members' assault on Jack. Shame on them, and shame on the NHRA if they don't take action against the team for their abusive behavior. Kelly and every one of her team members owes Jack a sincere and humbling apology.

6:10 WOAH BRO.... Talk about a female Warren Johnson. Back when I was a kid in JDRL at bandimere during the mile hi nationals I saw Warren over at his trailer after I was coming back to the pits after a pass and he was like my hero and I asked him to sign the roll cage off my dragster and went to hand him a pen while telling him he's my drag racing idol and mid sentence he slapped the pain marker out of my hand called me a "leech a toddler and the best part of you ran down the crack of your mamas ass" and of all people the Sarge happened to see that and he not only came over and signed my dragster, but later that season when I won the division 5 championship AND bandimere/Mike hi championship in 2003 Tony showed up at the rewards ceremony and signed my Wall and my track champion cup. Still got both of them.
Houston 1993, Saturday night. Warren was trying to be the first 6 second pass, but ran 7.02. On the return lane I gave him a thumbs up, and got no love returned, he looks PISSED !

Around 1999-2000 I flew out to Denver from Detroit Mi for the Mile High Nationals & I saw Warren in his pit wrenching on his car. I was patient and after about the 3rd time he came back out of the trailer I said, "Warren I know you're busy but my former employer wanted me to say hi." He replied, "And who might THAT be?" "Wally Booth." I said. He paused a second, grabbed a rag off the roof of the car and came my way & said, "Son! THAT goes back a few years, How IS that old boy?!" We chatted only a minute or so but I thought he was very approachable....

LMatt and Angie Smith is the real deal always have been always will be. I watched them for years. Angie has more class in here little finger than Kelly has in her whole body.
I had the pleasure of meeting Angie over 20 years ago at Piedmont dragway and watching her career develop, im a huge fan of her and her husband Matt and wish them the best.
Angie gained a fan today with her grit and class. Kelley lost one today for the unsportsmanlike treatment of the press. I wish NHRA would do like NASCAR and fine her for "conduct unbecoming the sport". All Kelly would have had to do is say" we are not going to comment at this time." Or "ask NHRA". To bully and rough up the press for just showing concern is no class and harmful to the sport. I hope her sponsors take note.

What he could do (and in my opinion, should do): Send the video to all of her sponsors, post the video for all to see (f##ks her sponsors over), give a copy to police and press charges for assault and property damage, send a copy to NHRA, never do an interview with them again!! Hi Jack, breakfast time here in the good old UK. Just watched this vid, great to see Angie Smith back on her bike & racing. She & her husband Matt always conduct themselves with class everytime you interview them, same with the McBrides & Dave Vantine plus many others. So the question is, just what is going on over at Team Clontz/Vance & Hines? Poor show & attitude on their behalf, doesn't paint a good picture as we say over here.

Every time I open up my V&H FP3 app on my phone, all I can see is an angry Kelly Clontz.
I WAS IN THOSE SAME STANDS FOR THE WINTER NATIONALS IN THE EARLY 60S AND A CAR MADE A PASS AND HIS MUNCIE TRANS EXPLODED HALFWAY DOWN THE TRACK AND THE CLUSTER GEAR CAME SPINNING UP INTO THE STANDS,LUCKILY NO ONE WAS HURT..GREAT VIDEO

Angie has to be the roughest, toughest beast on two wheels, ESPECIALLY after coming back, that fast from that violent wreck. I have lost friends who were involved in street crashes that happened at much slower speeds, and it was the other driver's fault. As for that other crew that roughed you up, it's only been four days since you posted this video, so it's most likely also not too late for you to file a police report for assault and battery. As a retired LEO, I did not see anything in this video that showed you being aggressive towards them, which would cause their reaction to you. Their actions were unprovoked, unnecessary, and most importantly, unlawful. There is absolutely zero reason for that behavior towards a reporter with proper credentials. I understand that tempers get flared up between racers and their crews, but what you encountered is simply uncalled for.

I am going to be real honest here. After seeing Kelly/team react the way they did I cannot believe that's what Vance& Hines wants as ambassadors to the public to promote from their brand. I do not even think I want to do business with a company that would. Ol'Vance & Hines needs to pull that contract.
Thank you Jack for documenting Angie's triumuphant return after her accident ( Matt and Angie work very hard to compete at that level). Thanks also for allowing us to see the nasty side of V&H teams, I am concerned they are going to bring their same nonsense to the Moto America King of the Baggers racing, lets hope they are held to the same standards as the other teams.

They should be suspended a few races or from that track for awhile. I wouldn't give them the time of day in the future, they at least owe you an apology and a steak dinner. Thanks for the video. The treatment by Kelly Clontz and her team is despicable. Let it go, take the higher ground and move on. I used to pull for Kelly against anyone except Angie. I'll never be a fan of hers again. The race community is supposed to pull together when someone has an accident. Good for you for trying. Ugh. Sad to see.
