I remember when these would come on TV and my grandfather would buy the VHS tape and we’d watch it together on his la Z boy. Times were so much easier back then
I was just thinking that! The old sports bloopers/insane crashes compilations
@@eins2001 exactly! Haha shit was so entertaining
They would have been the "Duke" video "HAVOC " series .
Not for some of those racers!
I do remember seeing the ads for some of those VHS tapes. One series in particular came flashing back into my mind: "And They Walked Away!". I wonder how many of the drivers and/or spectators in some of these clips didn't though. The Top Fuel dragster where the engine seemed to melt just off the line and sprayed what looked like molten metal everywhere like a fountain was particularly hairy. One thing is for sure, safety has improved by leaps and bounds since the early days. Do some of those racing disciplines even exist any more? Like the motorcycle sidecar racing? A definite mix of good old and bad old days here.
I don't usually comment on videos but this may be the most exceptional crash compilation I've ever seen. Almost every crash was new, the footage was super high quality, and most didn't have some annoying announcer paired with the clips. Thank you for assembling these!!
Nasty crashes in Australian motorsport I remember some as a Yong teenager growing up in the eraly 90s I hope all the drivers got out without serious injury
@@LukeRoyal-in3nq i hope the same
I love sharing old Australasian motorsports movies with the American guys I race with on weekends. Thanks for this :)
As an American I’ve always liked how Aussies enjoy sprint car and drag racing as well.
Had NO idea they ever had an oval track in Melbourne. Wild.
8:47 casually pulls front wheels while drifting. Sprint cars are wild
And the cars today are pretty much exactly the same. Those guys are crazy
I’ve seen them ride wheelies down the entire straight and letting off just enough to set it up for the next corner. They’re insane.
2:09 Little known fact: the circle tracks in Australia flush the opposite way
Top quality 👍🇦🇺
Took me a moment before I read "Melbourne" and figured out where it was and why it hurt my brain a bit to watch...
I didn’t even know the Aussies did oval racing.
Thanks
This exact clip taught me that as a kid seeing it on American tv!
That side car motorcycle racing looks scary AF.
1:33 lol wonder why
For real
Looks goofy as well, what even is the point of that
@@aleksihiltunen7063 The point is we'll race anything in Australia.
it is a buzz like no other being a passenger is the best thing you get in the zone and nothing else matters
6:30 Did somebody order sparks?! I’m impressed with the full-width track coverage!
I might be wrong, but I think I remember it being a clutch explosion!
ya that was wild,,top fuel cars are like little nukes
If you're gonna go, go big!
6:09
That's probably the most spectacular -engine- clutch failure I think I've ever seen.
That was the clutch exploding.
True
It was the clutch exploding. The engine was still running. He shut it down once he noticed the clutch being melted and slung across the USA.
6:09 - Holy crap! It's not often I've seen a dragster go up like that. That was pretty cool, actually.
I've never seen one until now
Lithium battery in his earbud.
if I'm not mistaken this was a clutch explosion
@@billmadison2032 Lol?
Yeah love it!
Love it!!! Some of the best Aussie motor sports I remember from SBS and 7 in the mid 90’s…. Heaven! Thank you 🎉
Yes mate👍
Yeah I remember watching speed week on sbs and seeing the truck racing 🏁
3:08 the way the #9 car rolls over nine times and then lands on its side showing #9 is magical
Yeah, but if he was REAL good, he would have went on driving, lol!
Dam some old gold there.
1:34 that happened to my great uncle back in the mid to late 1970s, it wasn’t side car racing but it was Super Twin AMA Flat Track, so these are really big bikes, he was ran over 2-3 times on his neck shoulder and head area, he wasn’t as lucky as the guy in the video, he was in a coma for around a month and was left with a traumatic brain injury that mostly paralyzed him from the waist down with limited movement of his arms and hands, his name was Eddie Daley, racing number was 80g & 80m, he raced for K&N, he passed away in 2007
Remember when we had wide and varied Australian motorsport?
We still do. Just got to know where to look ua-cam.com/video/6Pw7JPOv0qg/v-deo.htmlsi=zVykceLn5uQYGSXc
Climate activists will shut that ship right TF down, now!
holy crap that onboard sprint car footage is nuts!!
You see a truck crashing and hear an Aussie accent and Mad Max just pops into my head
The motorcycle race when they ran the dude over and immediately turned around and checked on him is something missing from sports these days. Very commendable.
Her, actually
Top notch effort in editing the sprintcar footage together 👏 That onboard is incredible!
Gives a good idea of the chaos in a race
that dirt track sidecar racing is intense. i'm off to watch more vids of that series. excellent compilation video. you Australians are crazy! i approve
And they don't have brakes, same with the Solos.
This video is pure art.
10:40 amazing that he didn’t get hit by the sprint car. He swerved perfectly
i used to have this on dvd, the nostalgia hit is something else i mustve watched this hundreds of times as a kid🤣
6:57 Haha, he acts like he says: "Did everyone see that? Because I will NOT be doing it again!"
These drivers ran so that drivers today could walk. The technology and safety features have come a long way.
15:08 - What the heck does the guy in yellow think he's doing?
Gotta move that smoke
His best
One of the best compilations I've seen to date
5:40 The yellow outfit was being driven by Shaun Hegarty, I raced against him 'back in the day' 🙂
Proof?
@@Twiggo_The_Foxxo Really? I don't actually care if you believe me or not so you can 'do one'
The Semi racing portion was super cool. From what you could see through the smoke and dust. Being there in person would truly be breathtaking.
Plenty more on our channel if you like that! ua-cam.com/video/YCbF4jODLU4/v-deo.html
I keep checking Aussie drag racing, but didn't know their NASCAR like events, are only right turns .... that's GREAT!
back when motorsport was worth watching
After the bike crash, the commentator says, "It's certainly not the way they would like to win this event.". 😅🤣👍
Its crazy you found raw footage like this its actually insanely good quality and most if it is on film cameras too
the sidecar at 5:40 Stacey Sellar and passenger Scott Thomson ( Scott is no long with us ) both were great mates
Ahhhhh good thing I watched this right before track day 😂😂😂
These are awesome because they are not just getting all excited over some spin
I think you should have mentioned that it was Australian motorsport crashes. Great compilation.
Loved the way the footage kept going back to the car as if it was one race! Brilliant!
1:35 These guys did hesitate to stop and check on their fellow competitor. Standing ovation for these two.
Gawd, that semi truck racing is terrifying. I love it!
I love the vintage videos from the past.🇺🇸
Mad Max love it guys. Indeed old school
I love how the Sprint Car parts are always pure, unadulterated chaos
Those sprint cars are crazy!
Ok i had to stop watching this as it hurts me too much but that little parachute attempt at 6:40 is absolutly hilarious.
Gotta love the good old Super Truck racing...every other class at the event hated them because of the mess they made to the track.
Imagine all the crying the EPA would do now if they ran hahah.
I think I recall hearing that the blue car at 2:40 was the most flips in racing history, at least at the time.
Go watch Rusty Wallace crash at daytona
5:22 please correct if I’m wrong but, is that lakeside raceway just after hungry corner? If so I love lakeside go there all the time
RIP Oran Park
Who was that, or what
@@scouttroopergaming One of the circuits in the video was on the outskirts of Sydney Australia. Now a field of McMansions.
It shall live on in iRacing
A blast from the past 🎉
crazy time , we need more!)
wow. nearly 60 now I remember a lot of these
It opens your eyes to know just how many types of motorsports there are
Great upload, love the old stuff and cant wait to see more.
We used to have the " BIG RIG "150 here in Ontario 🇨🇦 at the old CAYUGA SPEEDWAY. Ahhh the golden days of racing! RIP #3 #RACINGISLIFE🏁
Cool I see you have that crash at the Calder Park Oval
Saw the final crash on a Clarkson DVD years ago. Always thought it was fatal.
Walked away!!! Nice surprise.
I survived the 1970's. Got the scars to prove it.
Sidecar racing is absolutely mental. I can't believe that is real.
When I saw the Australian NASCAR, I had to do a double take to make sure I wasn't just watching a NASCAR video mirrored
I was so confused at first then I saw Melbourne on the wall and then I saw the AUSCAR sign
@@TimothyWenger what made me realize it wasn't was that the sponsors are normal and not reversed
One of those early clips was from Meremere drag strip in NZ
If anyone was wondering why the track attendants were dousing the driver when he got out,it's because the fuel burns without a visible flame,so the driver may have let them know "Hey ,I might be burning here"
Aussies and Americans have similar tastes in Motorsport. Great footage
16:41 what class of dirt track racing is this?
Lotta ozzie stacks! I like this a lot!
There has to be a part 2 in the making??
13:45 That's a pack a day set of pipes on old mate cameraman.
at first I thought it was a vehicle oh man haha
🤣@@alexrekzu4079
I almost fell out of my chair trying to watch that ausy nascar going the wrong way around the track !!
The side cars, now that's what I call short track!
I remember that every Friday night my dad would bring me to the local video store, rent some VHS tape and we watch "Havoc" together at night after dinner ☝️😅
That first dude is like FFS IM NOT ON FIRE STOP DOUSING ME
I didn't know australia had it's own version of NASCAR
Calder Park Thunder Dome, north Western Melbourne.
A few of those wrecks were so savage they hurt just to watch.
Im sorry but 69 flipping at 5:50 is hilarious. What a number to pick, while on your lid is the funny part!
6:26 - Representation of the creation of the Universe...
Yep,Australian stock cars barrel roll just like American stock cars only in the opposire direction 😆
15:40
Shows a perfect example, of physics in motion.
The car stops dead, but the driver keeps moving at the same speed.
The frames capture it perfectly..
No HANS device back then, so that is with fatal risks
6:55 he seemed to have been waiting for this moment his whole life
STREWTH…..the baaaastads on fire!!!
Cool old school vid😁😁
how the hell did i not know AUSCAR was a thing, and that they ran THE OTHER DIRECTION lmao thats hilarious
Mooi dat hij me geen stop 👍👍👍
01:42 The guy on the back of the motorcycle coming upon the stopped wreckage YELLS "PHUCK!" His head moves in unison with the audio...
there's not a single sport in the world that Australians can't do better.
Ah the Thunderdome... now there's some childhood memories.
And the Calder Park drags were always awesome. Remember Jim Reed doing the first 300mph run on Australian soil. Got me a signed poster from the event and everything. I remember one dickhead ran behind the jet cars and ate shit hahahaha. Found out exactly why the staff cleared the hill behind the start line. Great day out at the racing.
And the truck races, when will there be?
We Need Part 2 :)
4:41 I remember this blue 9 car having a similar crash, stopping when he hit a billboard
OH YEAH 💪💪💪💪💪
At 2:25 is the video flipped? Because I’ve never seen a stock car oval where cars turn right.
Nope, video's correct. The track is Calder Park Raceway in Melbourne, Australia. And since aussie cars are right-hand drive, they go clockwise
@@gentlesoul221 culture shock for me!
@@gentlesoul221didn’t the nascar cup series make an exhibition start there once?
@@ILikeRice88924 they did, Goodyear 500 I believe it was called
@@ILikeRice88924 i think so, but the thunderdome (The tri-oval part) is mostly used by Auscar, as well as also being a part of the full track
That NASCAR race where the car rolls multiple times. Sure looks like it beat Travis pastranas
Guinness book of world records for most rolls.
21:05 wow, I remember seeing this clip as a kid
Is that old archerfield speedway mate???
The one at 10:34 is the most of the rest was Parramatta/Sydney speedway
@@walkerracing5256 yeah right
6:08 Man them photographers gotta get that shot. Lol
I hear Santos Cranes is hiring a new crew of pit mechanics.
From 16:00 to 16:39 what decade was that filmed? Because the cars look like they're from the '70s , but the ambulance looks '90s. Just curious.
HQ Holden's they were a great category right through till about 2010, because parts were too scares and getting expensive to run.
They still run them at selected events, great sounds from the 202 inline 6cyl.
@@emilylane170 that's cool. Holden is basically Australia's Chevrolet I heard. Plus in the old days they had a catchy song. I'm here in America, but I love Australia.
2:44 That guy did the barrel roll before Elliott Sadler and Ryan Preece made it cool
I'm not gonna lie, not once have I ever pondered, 'In Australia they race ovals going clockwise'. But it makes sense.
Aussies used HD cameras back then hell yeah.
5:06 that one looked like a scene in a movie with artificial effects 😳
What are these cars at 16:40?
A australian equivalent to US stock car racing on dirt ovals.. so basically that, just with different fiberglass body panels.
