Hey Nicolai, have you considered putting a few more caveats behind your top common lists? I think you nail the archetype breakdowns of the set, but before playing with the cards it's very hard to identify definitively the top commons. For example, few people pegged Ambush Paratrooper as an important white common in BRO. Figuring out the color rankings is similarly difficult. I just think it's important to enter new sets with an open mind, and the understanding that initial impressions will change when we get our hands on the cards. Anyways, #Draftwillbewon

Excellent video! Feeling much better prepared for the events coming up. I especially like your portion on traps as I find this to be one of my weaknesses when drafting.
Just curious, have you seen any kind of poison counter removal in the set? I figured with toxic and proliferate being part of the set, that might be a counter-strategy in the set too.
I'm so glad you liked the video! There isn't any poison counter removal in the set at Common or Uncommon, but there is one Rare I can think of off the top of my head, Melira, the Living Cure, that can slow down Poison counters.

The new warriors and equipments has made my Boros Hammer Warriors really nuts. Being able to drop and equip for much cheaper is great. Especially when Resolute Strike is already equipping the hammer for free lol

That is very interesting - white seemed like by far the best color to me (great removal and tons of efficient creatures) and blue by far the worst with only a couple of good cards. Excited to see how this turns out.
Actually, you're right. White is THE bast color.
This is also my experience but that was just PR. Blue just didn't appeal to me.
same, i found blue ended up being the worst, with white/black being up there
@@Nerdslayer0 yeah I just played my first draft this set and I played blue/red, and even though I felt I had a decent deck, every other player I played vs played white/black poison and destroyed me. It wasn't even close.

I tried veil of assimilation with 2/1 lifesteal mitt that gets 1/1 counter for artifacts and went 5/3. Its playable in artifact and equipment decks

I got a question concerning sealed: what do you think about splashing in sealed? i tried the sealed simulator for phyrexia and i often tended to not have enough creatures when playing 2 colors. would you only splash colors for bombs or do you think playing 3 colours is a valid option, if you dont find enough creatures for your 2 colours?
I'm so glad you enjoyed it! With regards to your question, I think it is more often worth splashing in Sealed when compared to Draft because it is slower and splashing can give you access to bombs and key cards that you open. I think going straight 3 color is generally not advisable though because the hit in consistency is generally not worth it.

How much of this applies to sealed deck? I'm going to a pre-release soon and I feel like it might be actually easier to get the highly.playable.uncommons compared to draft because you get double the packs, but you won't be able to get enough on color cards to maximize synergy
I would say that most of it applies to Sealed deck. While Sealed is a distinct format that is notably slower than draft, with less focused decks, it is still going to feature many of the same elements. The combat tricks you need to be aware of, the key commons you are looking to build your deck around, and the functioning of the archetypes is going to be the same or very similar. I will say that aggressive cards and creatures go down in priority and card advantage goes up in priority when playing Sealed, so keep that in mind.
Could you (or anyone) explain the colour rankings a bit more. I'm not a great player (made Mythic once) but at first glance at the set, my order is B>G>W>R>U, so almost reverse from your order! Red seems average at both common and uncommon, and while Blue has some pretty good uncommons, it seems weak at common to me. What am I missing? (And to be clear, I'm being honest that I assume I'm missing something.) Thanks for your (or anyone's) thoughts.

I'd say black is weaker than you think, because the creature quality at common is just not good. My initial guess would be: G>W>B/R>R/B>U
I think he values red so highly because hexgold slash and volt charge are both exceptionally good. Probably even better than the black removal
One of the reasons I like Red is because all of its cards point in the same direction. They all want to be aggressive, and none of them care about Poison, so if you draft a strong Red card early you pretty much know it will be a strong card in your deck. This is contrasted with a color like White, which has some decks caring about Poison and some decks that care very little. If you draft a strong White poison card early, it might not be good in the deck you end up with, which means it might not be worth taking highly due to a lack of flexibility. It is almost like having some secret multicolor cards that, even though they technically only have one color of mana, only fit into a narrower band of decks. Also, Red has fantastic common removal spells which is historically a big indicator of its success in a format. I think Blue has some pretty strong commons, which I partially judge from the fact that it was hard for me to decide on which I wanted to include in the top 3. This indicates to me that the color has some nice depth, which means it has lots of viable options. I also will say that I think the color ranking section is the least important part of the guide because it is almost always best to draft whichever colors are open for your seat in the draft pod rather than try to force or avoid a particular color.

The removal spells are incredible!
I'm not sure I like the against all odds combo, since you lose a draw step to get a 3 or less mv creature or artifact from your graveyard for 4 mana. Maybe with spellbombs since they cycle it could be good in the late game, but nothing crazy, I think
I can definitely think of situations where it would be good to start returning cheap permanents to play (for example if the deck has mostly cheap creatures anyway so guaranteeing one is better than taking a draw and maybe hitting a land), but it is definitely a more niche application when compared to a combo like stealing your opponent's creature and sacrificing it. It is not something you have to go for every time the option presents itself, but it is still a cool little combo to be aware of.

Is there a way to remove poison counter?
There is not. Melira, the Living Cure at Rare can slow down Poison, but there aren't any cards that remove Poison counters in the set.

I just feel like W/B corrupted is the optimal deck for prerelease. Soooo much removal and great extra abilities.
Yeah, I don't get how black and white are supposed to be the weakest colors and red the strongest. Volt Charge and hexgold slash are reeeally good, but the creature quality at common definitely isn't. The common "For Mirrodin" euqipments are also pretty weak. Meanwhile white has incision glider, charge of the mites, Basilisk sheperd, the 2 mana 2/1 first strike/toxic 1, the strictly better pacifism, the 4 mana 3/4 toxic 1 bounce a permanent to get a mite card. Tbf blacks creature quality at common isn't the best either, but it has premium removal on par with red. I agree though that green seems pretty strong. To me blue seems to be the weakest color so far followed by red, strongest seems green, followed by white and maybe black.

When I am evaluating colors I also like to factor in how well the cards play with each other. One of the reasons I like Red is because it doesn't have tension about what it wants to do, and most of the good cards are going to be good in any Red deck. When you compare it to White, my point becomes a bit more clear, as White has some cards that want to be played in Poison decks, some that want to be played in normal damage decks, and some that want to be played with artifacts. It has some good cards, but it is harder to stay flexible when drafting the color. Hopefully that clarifies things a bit for you. Also, I will say that I think the color rankings section is the least important part of my guide because it is basically always just best to draft the colors that are most open for your seat in the draft pod.
White Black has some upsides in a prerelease but could also be finicky because if you don't get early Poison enablers the deck might not get to utilize some of its strongest cards.

Basically, the key to beating this draft is to just have 4/4s. They're the biggest things in the set. If you can get a 4/4 out turn 4 or 5, unless the deck your facing is in a miracle scenario, they probably won't win. Not enough happens fast enough for you to die by that time, and then they'll be next to unable to beat your 4/4 without putting themselves at a huge disadvantage

#draftwillbeone! Btw, I disagree with your asessment of veil of assimilation as there are enough flyers you could be using it on to speed your way to victory. Remember that white has several ways to trigger this: mites and equipments are both artifacts and there are a few artifact creatures as well.
I'm glad you liked the video! With a card like Veil it is important to keep in mind that it does basically nothing if you fall behind, and because it doesn't impact the board itself, it causes you to fall behind when you play it. Even when you are ahead, just deploying another threat is going to have a similar effect of keeping you on the front foot. So basically it is really bad when behind and comparable to other options when ahead, so overall not a card I would recommend running.

Definitely my least favorite set to draft which is weird because I actually like a majority of these cards. Almost all of my decks have been moderately to greatly buffed by these new toys. But I've done 4 drafts of this now and I just don't enjoy it as much lol
I took a break from limited when Brothers' War came out because I just didn't find that draft format very fun to play, especially with some of the busted retro artifacts in that set 😬

Im of the opinion that red is pretty overrated in limited this set. Maybe that's just me.

I like that the Red cards all point in the same direction, so if you take a strong Red card early it is pretty likely to end up in your deck. Some of the other colors have various strategies, so a strong card for Poison could be significantly worse in a deck that wants to win with regular damage. Being more flexible in the draft portion is certainly an advantage for Red. Also, it has incredible cheap removal, which has historically been a key determinant of Red's success in a format.
