best to worst colors?
OK but I don't think you can target a battle if a card says "target enchantment" my guy
Can they block an instant burn spell when targeting battle? When incubator is turned into creature does it have summoning sickness or able to attack since it was on the board?

Good video! At 4:15 I have to make a correction tho, battles are not enchantments, they are just battles, they are nonland permanents as enchantments are, but you cannot destroy a battle with a card that destroys enchantments or any other type that is not "battle" or "nonland permanent"
Good call! I definitely knew they were a different type when I first read them, but I kept just thinking of them as Enchantments which led to this error. I still think Sunder the Gateway is a strong card, but I definitely appreciate your comment because getting it correct is important. I'm glad you enjoyed the video and I appreciate the kind way you let me know about my mistake.
More important is that destroy effects don't flip the battles, you need to remove the counters from it, so keep that in mind.
@@NicolaiBolas For old mtg players like me, the confusion is justified since back (long back tbh) in the days we had global enchants that are almost like 'battles' de per si (less the dfc factor).

They aren’t very pleasant to read. That’s why I rotated all of the ones I referred to in my video. It’s good to know what they look like vertically, but flipping the card is the ideal way to actually read them in my opinion (way easier on the neck). If playing in paper, I recommend periodically rotating your entire hand if you want to read Battles (and then occasionally doing it as a bluff as well to not give anything away).
You can trick your opponent into thinking that you have a battle by doing a sideways head lol
You must then also hide that card well, since all battles are mdfc so the can spot it from the backside. And if they know what they are they can also know what battles color you picked

During the top white Commons, you mentioned Battles are enchantments. This isn't true, they're their own card type- battle. There's a green card that mentions destroying artifact, enchantment , or battles
You’re totally right. I still think Sunder the Gateway is strong, but it definitely can’t kill Battles. I think it was a combination of some part of my brain thinking Battles were Enchantments and another part that thought Sunder was templated the same way as that Green card you mentioned (Atraxa’s Fall). I’m just used to reading the line, “destroy an artifact or enchantment,” and that just meaning basically “any non-creature thing,” which isn’t the case anymore.
Great video! There is a great uncommon ramp/fixer you missed in the new battle cards: “Invasion of Zendikar” - 3G to search up TWO basics and put them BOTH on the battlefield (tapped). Even if you never flipped it, this would still be very playable.
I actually used Invasion of Zendikar as my example while I was explaining the Battle mechanic in that section. I didn't put it in the Manafixing section because I try to focus on Commons in that part. The reason I do that is because I find it to be more useful to think about which cards I can reasonably expect to see in a draft (especially if I am going into packs 2 and 3 looking for some fixing so I can splash). Commons come up more than Uncommons, so they will comprise the bulk of the fixing. Another way of thinking about it is that if there is not a lot of fixing at Common it will be harder to splash, but if there are lots of Uncommons that provide fixing it might be misleading to the overall viability of splashing. I agree that the card is sweet and super powerful in the right deck!

What do you think of Two-Headed Giant planning? I'm thinking Orzhov/Izzet is the way to go based on commons and uncommons. But I also think the Legends and Battles are gonna have big sway over what my friend and I end up going with.

Battle cards are not considered enchantments
Good call! It doesn’t have a huge impact on any of my evaluations (Sunder the Gateway gets a little worse but I still think it’s a great card), but Battles not being Enchantments is still valuable to keep in mind! Thanks for pointing it out.

There are plenty of sets where Blue is the best color. Color power level varies, but they’re almost always pretty balanced.

Due to the abundance of color-fixing in this set, what do you think about playing 3-color decks? Only do it for Multiverse Legends, do it where mechanics overlap (i.e. selesnya counters+ boros backup), or just flat out don't do it?
I don't think there is drastically more color fixing in this set than in others, so I wouldn't try to go for 3 color decks. It feels much more reasonable to stick to 2 colors and then sometimes splash a 3rd color when you have a compelling reason to do so.

I think my mind is just used to reading, "destroy an artifact or enchantment," and shorthanding to, "destroy a noncreature thing," which is not the case anymore. Luckily it doesn't really impact my evaluations, but I'm glad you pointed this out because it will help me avoid errors in the future.

getting that many wins in draft is crazy hard. I know you have to do your research and know card combos based off what you draft but holy crap people seem to be getting full decks against me lol.
At 4:20 you mention that Battle cards are enchantments, I don't believe they are they are a totally new card type and so can not necessarily be directly destroyed by sunder the gateway. Keep it up I enjoy your videos.

Pro tip. Take pics of the backs of your mdfc's you're putting in your deck before the matches begin
You're also allowed to call a judge and get oracle text on any card if you want. An alternative approach because looking at your phone during a game is sometimes frowned upon.

I don't make a Sealed Guide because a lot of the stuff is less relevant. Archetypes are less clearly defined, knowing top commons is less important because you never have to pick between them, and overall it is pretty similar to draft so lots of the same info applies. I'm glad you enjoyed the video!
I am at a 27% winstreak now... Going 1-3, 2-3, 1-3 in premiers... Saved up all this gold for nothing. Sadly I feel like others have much stronger decks even though I only drafted good cards and I wouldn't say I am a bad drafter at all
I just look around the table when ever there is a set with double sides, can just clearly see what is out there lol
It is definitely strategically valuable information and totally within the rules to do. I do the same thing myself!

Question: I feel like battles are inherently bad in limited. Why would I ever put 3-7 damage in a battle, if connecting means I could have just hit my opponent?
I feel an aggro deck that ignores battles could hose so many players
I'm glad you enjoyed the video, and here are some of my thoughts on Battles that you may find helpful. I know that this example may be a bit of a simplification, but it might help if you compare a Battle to the way Lightning Bolt functions in Limited. If you use Lightning Bolt to deal 3 damage to your opponent's creature, you get a board advantage that can let you keep attacking and win the game easier than if you just did 3 damage to your opponent directly. For an aggressive deck, dealing 5 damage to Invasion of Kylem will give you 2 4/3 attackers on the following turn (if they both survive) which is 8 power to keep pressuring your opponent with. Similarly, the rewards for killing other Battles helps you gain a tangible advantage that makes up for the fact that you are giving your opponent's life total a temporary reprieve. There are also many decks that don't really care about damaging the opponent, as they plan to take over the lategame and win after stabilizing, so those decks benefit from having a better thing to hit with their chip damage. Finally, there are some Battles that have solid effects when they come into play that would justify their use even if they didn't have the ability to flip at all. It is important to remember that the front half of the card is still a relevant gamepiece, and having the option to attack it is pure upside.

On the topic of battles. I'm still not entirely convinced. I guess in the end it all depends on the situation. And there's the fact that we just came from ONE, a crazy fast format. This does look like it will be a grindy format, so I can see some battles working. Overall though, the front side is expensively costed (because of the possible later upside). The upside is also public knowledge, which makes it less powerfull.
Non-combat damage I can see going for a battle, unless OP is within lethal range. Though creatures with evasion (trample, flying, menace,.. ) I myself will probably rarely justify hitting a battle. The reward would have to be about double the power of a similar evasive creature.
Battle of Kylem is one of the best ones indeed (that you have a reasonable chance of seeing), but the 8 power it provides you isn't guaranteed to hit. The fact that you just cleared 5 defense counters, means that damage was guaranteed.
Then again, you most definetly are way more skilled at this game then I am. So I will 100% take this advice with me to the pre-release.
And on sidenote, I build grixis control in 3 of my last 4 pre-releases and did really good with them, so control might suit me haha
@@emieldehouwer4507 Another thing to probably keep in mind is, how much more likely is it that the opponent defends your battle than their lifetotal? Maybe they are like "whatever, flip your card" or if they really don't want you to flip it they probably "trade their creatures recklessly into it". I mean, i don't know how battles play out in actual games, but i have the feeling it adds an additional strategic component to play around where your opponents could make mistakes you could use to your advantage.

I'm not entirely sure what you mean, because I made 26 gameplay videos (mostly Draft with a little Sealed) for Phyrexia: All Will Be One. That's pretty comparable to what I make for most sets (and it's way more than I made for Brothers' War or Dominaria United). I didn't make any draft videos for the set in the past few weeks because I wanted to end on the high note of the Arena Open and every set dwindles in popularity over time anyway. I'm glad you enjoyed the Draft Guide, and hopefully this clarifies things for you a bit.

22:48, is that not cheating? Or at the very least looked down upon, especially in a casual setting? I mean, I could get some more information in other sets by leaning back and looking at my neighbors and seeing what cards they're considering, but that's the kind of thing that would tick people off, no? Like sure, maybe there's nobody that's going to police people for doing that, but you also don't want to be that guy at your lgs that nobody wants to play with. Idk, I always keep my eyes on my own cards during a draft rather than look at other people.
It’s actually not like that at all. Flip cards create a very unique situation by their very nature because they have two sides and are therefore impossible not to notice. I’ve actually drafted at stores where everyone shows their flip cards to the table so everyone is operating with the same information (like if not everyone knows what both sides of the card do). So to reiterate, it is not cheating in the slightest and is completely different from the leaning back scenario you mentioned (which is totally cheating). When a card doesn’t have a conventional back it is noticeable and it’s the sort of thing that throws a unique wrench in the drafts due to the known information element. It’s like if there was a card in a set that said it had to be drafted face up. In that scenario it obviously isn’t wrong to look at it when they draft it because that’s part of the card’s text. Double faced cards are the same and it isn’t even remotely considered cheating to look at it because it is a part of the card’s mechanic. Hopefully this clarifies things for you.

Does incubator tokens get summoning sickness? Like if you just summoned the artifact, can u transform and attack already?
You have to wait a turn to attack still. If the Incubator token was from a previous turn though, it doesn't gain summoning sickness when you flip it.
Comparing against the bllitzkrieg that was ONE draft. Between battles, incubate and convoke this format seems that will be much slower.
I think most formats are slower than Phyrexia: All Will Be One, and I do hope that this one is in that camp. I tend to find that when formats are a little slower there is more room for decision making.

battles are not like sagas. they are not a subtype if an enchantment, but a new cardtype. so destroy target encgantment, wont work on battles i guess.
Good call. I think you articulated quite well the source of my error, because I think in my head I was treating Battles kind of like Sagas. You are right that Sunder the Gateway doesn't kill Battles.

Great video but Blue being the worst color definitely hasn’t aged well. It’s now considered the best color in the set with black right after. UB is one of the best decks out there. White and red I find are the worst colors.
One quick correction: at 4:19, you mention that Battles are enchantments. That's incorrect. Battles are a whole new card type, and while they act a bit like enchantments, they're not. Still a great video!
