Life too short for long UA-cam videos? Please see the ‘Interesting bits and go-to sections’ information below.
In this episode we are joined by Josh Scott, founder and owner of JHS Pedals from Kansas City, Missouri. Josh was on his way home after the 2017 Frankfurt Musikmesse and stopped off in the UK to visit friends and dealers, while celebrating his company’s 10th Anniversary.
Regular viewers of That Pedal Show will know that we hold JHS pedals in extremely high regard, so what better opportunity to get to know the man behind them a little better?
It’s quite a talky episode as we learn about Josh’s beginnings in electronics and how that eventually became a successful company. Amongst the chat we also get a chance to hear two of JHS’s key releases for 2017, the VCR Ryan Adams Signature and the Milkman Delay/Boost as well as checking out existing favourites the Colour Box and The Kilt.
Enjoy!

I love his dead-pan self-deprecation sarcasm hahah
This is great
I absolutely love JHS and Josh is such a real person. Such a great product I currently use only JHS drives, boost, compression, and couldn’t be more happy. Great episode
This message is to anyone criticizing josh he is a good freind of mine and my youth teacher and all i can say is this he is the most honest and stand up guy around and is someone who has a true passion for christ
"there's a secret switch in the back"
"what does it do?"
"I don't know"
haha
Never ever touch this hidden switch inside!
"Haunting mids", just made me snort coffee out of my nose...
I like his sense of humour 🙂
This video solidified, for me, how great JHS stuff is. Well done - and keep crushin' the game Josh!
Wooooohhhhhooooooooo KILT!
+Levi Bavester Finally!
Soooooo, Jackson audio Prism next?
I've had JHS pedals and mods and they've all been great. All the online b.s. is so unfortunate. Keep up the good work, Josh!
I agree. I'm one of the most liberal people I know, lived in Portland OR my whole life, most of my friends/family are the same and I'm very sensitive toward issues relating to marginalized groups (be it race, gender whatever). But even so, having read the full scope of Josh's history, anyone saying he holds hate in his heart or is prejudice in any way is being willfully disingenuous and misleading. Purposefully misrepresenting the facts in order to smear someone is, as you mentioned, very unfortunate. I don't know why there is such ugly bitterness in some corners of the pedal world but it's depressing that people enjoy bullying/smearing others like that.
And JHS pedals are great! I just ordered the Space Commander tonight based on Andy's video and this. The Morning Glory is of course the best overdrive of all time (we all agree? good!) also own Dispatch Master, Ghost Echoes and Haunting Mids. Some of my favorite effects are made by JHS, but I'll also admit a few have been misses for me (Twin Twelve for example)
Still in Pdx?
Go see lost ox / Jay si proof / super secret band 🤘🤘
Mick and Dan, what a great guest. Please make more videos like this one.
When the video started, I only wanted an Angry Charlie.
When the video was over, I wanted an Angry Charlie, a VCR, the Kilt, the Milk Man.
When I read the comments and saw the hysteria, I wanted to sell most of my gear and just give Josh the money.
I get standing up against bigotry, but accusing people of supporting something that they openly and actively disavow isn’t justice.
Josh, don’t let them get you down, man.
+billphillipstube Thanks BigPhillip. It won't get us down. We're really lucky that we get very little hate or trolling on this channel. Thanks for watching and for commenting!
John Cusack! I loved him in Say Anything and 'Serendipity'. I had no idea he was a pedal guy.
First, Josh and JHS rock! Great call there. Second, I saw that Broadcast on the board, which made me very happy. Hearing it played and possibly discussed by you will make me even happier! Great show guys!
Thanks for standing up for the good guys.
Another great episode.
JHS makes awesome stuff. One of my absolute favorite pedals I have is the Sweet Tea. I always loved the sound of a distortion with an overdrive before it and the Sweet Tea gives you that in one box. Some of the best gain tones I've ever had have come from that pedal.
I love how Josh Scott is just a dude.
He's also like 40 lol
@@PulledPurk I was shocked when i found out he's 38, i thought he was like on his 50s
@@MartinMadsen014 really??
I thought he looked like a kid
@@PulledPurk it's hard to decide his age lol. he both looks like a teen and a 50 year old
@@Various_Artist As opposed to a suited Lord of Capitalism, think of how different this would be if, say, Jamie Dimon were the guest.
I love the sound of the VCR
Thanks so much for having Josh on. Seems like a top bloke (as do you gents). Brilliant pedals and thoroughly entertaining.
better and better with each passing episode
Great show with Josh!
My first experience with JHS was their Klon Klone to replace my original gold Klon than I sold for ridiculous money...
I love their stuff, and thanks for the great interview!
Quick aside: received my D&M drive yesterday- and my only reaction is WOW!!!!!! One of the greatest, most flexible pedals I've ever heard!
Great job Dan, Mick, and Mr. Keeley- I couldn't be any happier!!!!!!!!!!
+Francis Gori ah, thanks Francis, so glad you're happy. We obviously love it too :)
Really great episode. Love Josh and follow his vlog nearly as closely as TPS.
Awesome! Thanks for vids and your time behind the lens, the research you do, the collaboratikns you make and the time with your instruments! Keep up the good work!
Dan and Mick, thanx 4 bringing Josh on,JHS makes great pedals!I own Angry Charlie, and JHS modded Soul Food.Very happy with their service, never had a problem, Josh mentioned John Cusack, from Cusackmusic.com,I own a Cusack Kingsnake60watt,great amps and pedals,B.T.W, I had some questions about biasing and such, so I called the number for Cusack music and ended up talking to John Cusack, (not the actor),he answered all my questions, and then ended up giving me a history of how he got into the amp building and pedal building business and apologized for taking up so much of my time, which I didn't mind a bit! so just want to give appreciation to all those designers out there who are so dedicated to keeping those of us with terminal G.A.S.,fulfilled!
Thank you Josh for the sweat tea, my most used (because it's great) pedal on my board
I’ve got the VCR Ryan Adams and it’s one of my favourite pedals of all time.
Theres no secret switch is there lol
"Its just a long painful journey of failure". Good stuff!
Mike from Analogman would be awesome to interview
+mattiv1 would LOVE to have Mike on the show. Hopefully we'll be able to make it happen
mattiv1 I second this! Dan Burgess would be another.
we're looking forward to it! Maybe he can work with you on v2 of D&M dual pedal
If Mike & Brian Wampler are in the same room at the same time, does the world end?? ;-)
Too many great names appearing here for future shows. Another +1 vote for Analog Mike here. :-)
I hope they interview analog Mike to make up for this nonsense.
Big fan of this show... NOT a fan of JHS. There is nobody less deserving of a spotlight than Josh Scott. Except maybe Mason from Vertex.
Proud owner of a 2011 Banana Boost. That thing with a tele into a cranked AC30 is my sound.
Pedal Show guys, I can only speak for myself but I'm sorry for all the crap you are copping for this episode. You have created countless hours of great content for free, and I find it extremely valuable. I watched this one and I'll be watching the next one.
+Nick Williamson Thank you Nick. People have a right to their opinion, and it's good to be able to air it. We just need to make sure the libel, defamation and hate is monitored. (Just woken up, so on that now). Thanks for watching!
@@ThatPedalShow Please also be attuned to religious bigotry (which is quite common in Western culture today against Christians) as well. I don't know what this guy's faith is, but it is his own and should be respected and protected regardless of what SJW's would have you believe. I think that was low hanging fruit in the whole JHS hate controversy that cropped up a couple of years ago and persists today.
And don't forget that across America every Sunday, hundreds of thousands of musicians are stomping on the pedals you guys talk about. Our voices are important in music merchandising.
Amazing episode! Thank you !
Great guy, great interview, love his passion for the pedal mojo.
“He’s messing with that thing again” is the best quote! Hilarious
Great video. everyone looks like they are having fun.
Great show! Nice variation in format, loved it. Thanks team That Pedal Show
great show as usual. THANKS
Great show again guys.
I really look forward every week to your shows.
I'll always love JHS stuff. I've owned multiple pedals of theirs and have another one on the way. Very fun stuff
Some very nice sounding pedals and a very likable guy!
Great show - thanks guys
KC in the Queens land. You make great things Josh. Keep at it. AC has been on my board for 2 yrs now, VCR ordered soon!
Always the best part of my Friday. Great episode too, cheers guys!
Loved this one. Thanks guys.
This is one of the most entertaining videos on the channel. Thx!
Gussy Wells here...Great idea to include pedal builders on the show hopefully we can anticipate much more episodes of the same!!
always great guys!!
cheers!1
Enjoyed fellas! I don't have any JHS pedals, but I'm a bigger fan after this. Josh was hilarious. That VCR is a neat concept.
Thanks guys. Another great episode. Keeping things loose and fun , reminding me to do the same
+dre brose That's good news! This stuff should be fun we reckon!
I love Josh's sense of humor
I don't know how I missed this the first time around. Oh well, better late than never! Great interaction - Josh is a cool dude.
Josh is so funny. Great episode! So thanks for this and greetz. 🖖🏼
Loved this. Always nice to hear the experts say that Boss is still some of the best stuff ever made. JHS make some awesome pedals, I like spending pocket change on pedals because my money tends to go on my family but I do love some of the really interesting overdrives. Great video.
Always love a new JHS pedal
What an awesome episode
Great video. Thanks for posting!
This is one of the most entertaining and fascinating episodes you guys have done. That guy is hilarious. Well done guys! And I WILL be buying a milkman.
Since people wont take the time read or look, here is a statement directly from their site:
I attended church and volunteered off-and-on at ihopkc as a musician between 2010-2013 and have never hidden that fact. I have never persecuted or discriminated against anyone, including the LGBTQ community, and I personally do not support or donate to any organization that does. I renounce discriminatory and oppressive views and I stand behind my statement that I personally, and my company JHS Pedals, treats every person with honor, dignity, and respect - regardless of their beliefs, race, creed, or sexual orientation. I am here to dialogue with our fans, customers, artists, and critics about JHS Pedals, not about ihopkc or their 2000+ staff/members/leaders…I have not personally been involved at ihopkc for about 3 years now. I personally and professionally value and respect the rights of all people and I am unaffiliated with any organization that does not conduct themselves in the same manner.
New Record Day You didn't know? If you even walk past the door of an organization, you are then forever responsible for everything they ever do.
I first read this as International House of Pancakes Kansas City
Ah yes, the infamous Devi-Ever dustup. It's not like he/she came out looking any better quite honestly -- to this day I'm not sure if he ripped off Devi's circuitry or not. They had some collaboration that went south.
I thought Josh was a quite cool dude. Then I found out about that extremist christian stuff JHS seems (or seemed) to be affiliated with. Josh personally distances himself from that and the anti-LGTBQ practices of IHOP now. I'm not hating on Josh but it seems that a bitter taste lingers on within the community.
Excuse me Anonymous, what's with the assumptive notion of his views as extreme? That alone is a tell on your part, but instead of just saying it, why don't you get specific as to why his views are extreme because there is not a major religion in the world that condones various sexual acts associated with many lifestyles, hetero or otherwise; though most accept the person as someone that can be redeemed. That's hardly extreme, but is a religious point of view.
Loving these longer videos! :-)
Love JHS THANKS FOR MAKING THIS!!!
great show, thanks
Perfect ending. Josh Scott is hilarious and the ending was perfect. Great show.
I like it when the guest takes over horn duty. 👍🏻🎺
loved this video. Josh seems humble and a great laugh. love his Soh
Fantastic episode!
Thanks for the awesome video That Pedal Show! You guys rock as always. :)
And here I thought I wasn't a fan of chorus. That VCR was great... but I think I like the Milkman even better.
It has been hard for daddy to explain why we can't afford college for the kids.
Thanks for this excellent episode! Really cool to hear from Josh, especially after stumbling on the ridiculous amount of ill-conceived opinions about this guy. The JHS hate-agenda thing is just noise now.
best birthday gift I have so far today! am I dreaming? I'm a big fan of both
The stars aligned! Pete.
Love my JHS mode blues driver. I use a Hendrix fuzz face to ts808HW was mxr boost/overdrive but swapped back to my JHS blues driver into Keeley Oxblood. That's my crunch distortion range. In Australia was hard to find so to save dollars you guys sent one that the box had few marks on it. Now found a place in Australia. I've only just found now from this videos guide.
Such a great show this week guys. I really LOVED hearing the "story" of JHS.
I love the tone on Gimmie Something Good.
Joshes personality makes me want to by his product, seems like a cool and humble guy. and they sound great!!
"Take your $4000 amp and make it sound like trash" lol ! I actually kinda like that tone!
Exactly
Great stuff! Josh is Humble, which is great, and it is cool that he is a Pedal Historian.
What an inspirational video guys! Fantastic stuff!!
Josh is the man. The guy is just a great .
Quite the card, great episode. Thank you
Great episode. Great sounding pedals. Thank you both and Josh for some awesome content.
Amazing ending! Watch Josh JHS vlog, really interesting!!
Loved this video! This one officially locked in my subscription to your channel! Cant wait to hear more from TPS and JHS as well
In an alternate universe, Josh goes on to join the NBA.
I didn't finish watching this yesterday, I now have ... Josh getting kicked out at the end for playing Stairway cracked me up. Sill laughing as I type this. Nice one chaps, have a good weekend.
I laughed. I learned. I felt feelings. What a great episode of That Pedal Show this is.
Love my Firefly fuzz and Timmons OD.........Good stuff Maynard...
Awesome show! Makes me wanna try JHS. You make my fridays glorious guys!!
haha that last bit was like 1992 on a saturday morning in every guitar shop in the UK :D
+Moltisanti Made us laugh!
absolutely awesome show, definitely one of the best ever!
One of the best!!!
Highly entertaining!
He makes damn good pedals...so i will buy JHS, PERIOD!
josh was soooooooo funny. thanks guys
Over a year later, and revisiting this has reminded me of Josh's recent revelation that inspired the creation of the Bonsai:
"...and really, most of us just want to play a Tubescreamer..."
And at 24:52 to 25:22, biggest lolz ever in TPS history
I'm not sure if I've watched all the pedal show vids, but I noticed some very good subtle cuts and editing going on this one, appreciate the work on the show gents.
+Scott Forsyth Thanks Scott! Simon will be pleased. A little bit choppage here and there. Save us being two hours. :0)
lmao, when Josh played that horn and the guitar at the end cracked me up.. That was awesome.
Great video as always \m/
What a great guy.
Great interview :) thanks
Dan & Mick, I love your channel, always a must see. Populated my board many times based upon your reviews, and I'm wanting to grab a few more pedals covered in recent episodes. Your expertise and explanations feed my needs better than any advertisement, I always look for your review befor deciding to make a purchase.
Don't let the trolls bring you down, I think it is absurd to have any sort of politics or morals issues cloud this great channel. I cast my vote to recommend you delete the whole lot of garbage commenters and replies. There is no place for that here.
JHS fuzz was my first pedal purchase, amazing pedal and I still have it. I tuned in with great anticipation today to learn about Josh and his story, I was not disappointed. He is great, and the show was excellent. *Standing ovation*. Keep up the excellent work. Fan always, John
P.S. I cant decide if I should save for a Gig Rig, or more of these excellent pedals... I definitely want one, timing is the issue. Maybe a show on the Gig Rig for us fence sitters? I'm guessing you could show us how the fast swapping of pedal order can drastically change the sound of our rig. Maybe pick a handful of common pedals and switch up the order and wow us with what we are missing...
What a legend. I can’t wait to purchase the Haunting Mid from JHS. Shipped next month hopefully
Please do a blues breaker episode. With jhs morning glory v4, Bondi effect del mar, the real one etc. Nice episode BTW, great outro!
Don't forget the Snouse Black Box 2 on that one
+1
And bring out the King of Tone too! Modified bluesbreaker there as well! I love mine, but would love to hear it compared to other bluesbreaker type circuits!
Utter utter engaging Interview. Peace
Went Reverb to buy the milkman. Used one was listed, by the time I clicked on it it was gone. I predict a run on that pedal. New one coming in a couple days!!
Damn...Sat down to watch the episode, but got so inspired by those first few chords Mick played...Fired up the DAW, downloaded a free looper plugin and I'm STILL jamming!!! U Rock Mister!!!!!
that's Ryan Adam's gimme something good
