Chris Buck Pedalboard Build - That Pedal Show
Вставка
- Опубліковано 30 тра 2024
- In this episode we welcome the fantabulous Sir Christopher Of Buckshire back to TPS Manor.
Chris is the Buck in Buck & Evans, about which you can discover more on ye olde Interwebs: www.buckandevans.com/
Chris visited us back in August 2018 where we made this video: • Chris Buck At TPS - In... and in this visit he returns to update his pedalboard with a full G2-based system. Dan and Chris discuss the layout and other requirements before cracking on with the build. We then plug it in and have a good listen… of course.
Massive thanks to Chris for his time and always-excellent hangs!
Enjoy the episode!

•Note about Riff City Guitar
It was with a heavy heart that Dan and I heard that Riff City was closing as of July 2019. This video was shot and edited before that which doesn’t really matter… what does matter is that we want to thank Joe and everyone there for their support and friendship over the first years of TPS. We wish everyone involved with Riff City the very best for the future - for absolutely sure when one door closes another one inevitably opens. Our very best to Joe and team!
Thank you so much for having me guys! I forgot about that intro 😂
Been looking forward to this build.
Hahaha!!! We should all be actors. Always a pleasure Chris!
Chris, you need another person on Friday Fretworks. It's a good show, but your wonderful personality and sharp wit only really come out when you're bouncing of someone else. It's like watching a different person when you're with these guys. Even the video you did with Pete Thorn a few weeks ago was just so much more exuberant and jovial. Just my two cents. Love your playing and insights but I'd love some more of your humor too because its just as delightful.
Chris, I think it was Ariel Posen that called the cali 76 a sonic yoga mat in his guitarist interview
Chris just largely upgraded his sound. It IS AUDIBLE trough UA-cam. One of the best sounding builds so far!
"Make way for the board!" Needs to be a new TPS t-shirt. I'd buy 3😂
+
Make Way For My
Sonic Yoga Mat
Oh hell yeah.
I've got a tanktop saying 'I like big boards and I can't deny' :P
I literally came here just to comment this!
Chris' touch is really something. It's just one of those intangibles you can't describe. Just something about the way he opens the envelope of every note.
Recently completely fallen in love with Chris Buck. Love his Friday Fretworks and his sound is just gorgeous. His playing is truly inspiring and he comes across as such a lovely and funny guy. I need to get better at guitar 🎸
Chris is such a humble, funny charismatic bloke.
Oh, and he does guitar quite good too!
This show is so frustrating. The moment it's on, and I hear you guys play, I want to play. So, it took me 4 tries to finish the show. 😋
colaboytje I do this every week..
Chris "KNOB BREAKER" Buck is one of the finest guitarist on UA-cam, is a great inspiration.....
After this video, Dan completely disassembled this board and rebuilt it to get rid of that hum.
You can see it’s bugging him.
I'd love it this were true!
He needs some humbuggies
@@mattgilbert7347 no..........
I think it was the cables I had some solderless cables like this got rid of a couple replaced w some pancake soldered, and the noise slowly went away
just buy the EHX HumDeBugger! ( well that IS enough for ME...).....😎
Wow, the Centura/KOT/Cali76 tone was unreal 😮
I can’t watch/listen to any video of Chris playing without stopping at least once to go pick up my Strat and attempt to squeeze out a few notes that sound as sweet. Inspiring. Thank you! (Nice board)
My favorite line (out of a very funny and entertaining episode) was Chris saying that the all knobs on his pedals point to Wales. "Cymru am byth!!"
Chris Buck. One phrase makes anything I play on guitar sound like chopsticks! Another incredible player who is totally unassuming and grounded. Another testimony to TPS bringing the best out of people in terms of genuine respect and the lovely moments when Dan and Mick look at each other and with no words needed express 'How freakin' good is this guy???!!!' Thanks all for another inspirational demo of the relationship between player, instrument and every aspect that G2 highlights. EVERYTHING matters, makes a difference and nothing is in isolation. Brilliant show guys. Chris really epitomizes tone in the fingers. Love his own channel too. Killer set up Dan. Your own humility and joy with each new players epiphany where everything old becomes new again remains infectious. Brilliant job by all.
Well spoken, Sir!
Absolutely right, and he's never sounded better.
I love Bluey
Great show my dudes, managing to capture a rare moment when Dan’s cuddly and cheerful facade dips to reveal the steely-eyed pedal man with no chill for random hums or inferior grade cables.
Prawn burst 😂😂😂😂 I absolutely love it! I wonder if Chris Buck knows it glows in the dark
Chris Buck is the most interesting guitar player right now. He's got perfect tone. Yes, PERFECT. Amazing player.
Well I am suitably humbled.......never heard of you Chris, but after this, man alive, I will be checking out your music for sure! 😎😎😎👍
Two things: Chris is a fantastic player! Mick and Dan's love and childlike joy for all things tone and guitar is still very infectious!
"Don't Be Daft its been awesome" is the most British thing I've heard today.
The most British thing you've heard from an Australian today :)
Close. Simply replace "awesome" with "marvellous" and you're there.
IThe gii hit on
It's like you can FEEL the loathing for these cables rolling off Dan in waves.
Erm, yep. Which isn't to say they don't suit some people though.
My comment is very simple:
I am SOOOOOO glad “That Pedal Show” introduced Chris Buck to me, and I’m sure many others! He is an absolute GEM of a player, and lovely guy (I now watch his channel as well). One of my top 3 favorite players now!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you all!
What happens when you combine forces between the pedal gurus with one of the most talented and emotive guitar players alive (if not ever lived) ... pure magic.
Chris Buck is SUCH A FRIGGIN AMAZING GUITAR PLAYER. Probably one of the most *expressive* players in the game right now.
Only other guitarist I can think of that comes close would be Derek Church. Other than those two, I can think of no other players anywhere near their league.
Po1itica11yNcorrect I googled and couldn’t find a Derek Church. Please send link.
Now that hair on the other hand…
“That’s the smile of a man who is very wet” - Brilliant! Great show again boys, and well done Chris. Awesome playing!
First time watching with a proper headphone.
OMG, what a difference. I almost want to watch every episode again just to enjoy it better.
Chris' playing is by far the nicest in the whole youtube!!! so melodic, man!
Do this episode over and over every week, and we'll all come watch. Chris is a guitar player's guitarist--great stuff guys!
Chris is always such a good guest! Loved it! Great job with the pedal board.
I had to question all my life decisions when you flipped over the plate on the boss pedal.
What a happy hour of life.... Great build, great conversation.
Chris Buck is such an amazing player! His technique and dynamic in his hands is so unique! So happy to see him back on TPS!
Pedalboard Builds and Rig Rundowns are my Favorite. Love to see (and hear) what others are doing/using. I Learn so much. It's because of Dan & Mick, that I now have: A Pro Style Pedalboard.
V.C.P.I. Baby !!! V.CP.I. Rules !!! Arguably . . . The Most Important Episode from these 2 Legends. One Love from NYC.
just got my 4k hdr screen, cant wait to feel like im in the room with Dan, Mick and Chris
Man what a cool customer Chris is. Nice guy and holy shit can the dude play! Such a great video!
Yes , he's great! (by the way, who is John Mayor? I forget... :) )
Great to see Hello Sailor Effects and Pedal Patch UK in this episode, well deserved and really great people.
Ohhhh mannn 😂😂that playing is from another planet , Mr Buck is quickly becoming a guitar god👍
Prawn burst ...🤣... pure genius Chris buddy! Great board build Dan along with chocolate cake duties by Mick! And everybody do yourselves a favor go see Buck And Evans live !
Just loved the look on Chris's face when he played through the board and everything was just MORE.
Dan looks chuffed and Mick looked so proud ! Pure vindication for everything discussed on TPS.
I don't know Chris's music (YET) and have only seen him on TPS and with Pete Thorn but he comes across as such a genuine nice guy who is enjoying the 'journey'.
Awesome show.
Need the 'Make way for the board' and 'The smile of a man who is very wet' t-shirts ASAP.
I'd just like to say (especially for the people in the comments) that I have been using Pedal Patch cables on my boards for the last 7 months and through various tours, flights and gigs they have been absolutely solid! Not one fault or issue. Wonderful playing from Chris and really enjoyed the show!
I've never felt more validated for my own gain staging needs. Thank you!
Hey Chris, I’m sure there is a market for in-depth training about your phrasing and harmonic choices. I am in awe. I’ve watch this now three times. (Not the last)
The arpeggio section from Slow Train played with the Echorec is just magnificent.
Over night rain, sunlight just raking the western plains of New South Wales and TPS - so much love...
Great playing. It's a nice bonus to have such accomplished guitarists on the show. Buck's humor plays nicely off of yours. Love it. Keep on truckin'!! TPS cowboy boots with built in podcast when you click the heels...
BRILLANT playing when demonstrating the differences of wet/dry portion of the video. So bloody lush!
Awesome episode. Chris is such an earnest gear nerd! And his deadpan humor drops are legendary.
YAAAS!! Let's hear 20 more pedals I'll end up wanting because of his awesome playing!
Diolch guys for an amazing tonesome show. Cymru am byth... :-)
All the kit was exceptional as always, but the Chris Buck part was the highlight. All around beautiful player and great human. Respect.
"One of the things I find about eating chocolate cake... dad's working hard eating chocolate cake"- love that quote!
Great video! When an artist is a true gear nerd like a lot of us watching, it makes the video really enjoyable. Plus, it's great to see Chris get some exposure. I've seen him live and was blown away. Keep it up, guys!
The Klon into the Cali76 into the King of Tone is magical.
Great episode guys, god damn the boy can play,
It was great to hear Chris playing live in Newcastle this evening, the new board sounded amazing! Chris is a talented player, his banter between songs was top class too.
Yet another stunning show gents, you never fail to make Friday the best day of the week. I'm pretty sure my daughter thinks 'Pedal Show Day' is the correct name!
Absolutely love the sound Chris makes and he is almost as big a legend as you two.
More please, perhaps even a live show with him?
Yeah cool, let’s do that!
Such a tasteful player. Great video!
I forget sometimes how good Chris is............ man I wish I could play like that. Great show tho guys!!!
I finally got a second amp last Sunday. Today I'm ripping apart my rig and rebuilding it as a wet/dry rig. The smile on Chris' face at 49:10 has me even more excited than I already was.
Tudor black bay. Nice. Love that watch.
In conjunction with your regular shows, I really enjoy these episodes. As it is great to see how the players interact pedals with other pedals and how they work together or don't, especially a pedal board like Chris's flotilla or rather armada of pedals. And Chris's acknowledgment is a testament to the supplying of clean and correct level power to the pedals along with Dan's secret sauce of a clean layout to tie it altogether. Cheers.
The cali 76 with the king of tone is just instant john mayer where the light is to my ears
Shout out to Maesteg's first mention on TPS !! 'The Valley setting' - brilliant.
Still watching every second again ... its that little head shake from Dan at 52.53... like dayyuum how does he do that? ... fabulous video from everyone 👏 👌
Magic. Magic!
Since you bring up Mr. Pete Honore, (Bang!!) what are chances you guys could facilitate a Pete Honore and Chris Buck meeting/Jam. I am blown away by the playing style of both of these incredible gentlemen and it would be such a treat to see them together.
Could listen to Chris play all day. Such a good guitarist.
Have used Pedalpatch and made over 40 cables with only 1 dud cable. Don't let this video put you off! Great service, price and product!
Undoubtedly. I think Dan’s got a much higher success rate with Evidence Audio...
Yet another time I see a TPS artist episode and I go; “Who???” And then...... I become a fan! Haha haha. Love you boys.
LOVE Chris Buck, genuine guitar player
Chris, he's a cool cat and one hell of a player!
Loved it.
Great show, guys!! Love Mick’s smiling at Chris’ playing!
Lovely tone Chris.😎
Awesome guys. Great show
Chris he has the touch , awesome player !!!
Fabulous show, so awesome to witness the next leg of Chris's journey. Without question, Chris, your playing is sublime. Inspiring episode: well done all.
Too many of my favourite Overdrives on one board :) Awesome
Chris is such a cool guy.
Hell of an episode! Chris youre a bad man !
Really like Chris, excellent player and glad to see him defend keeping the HSE pedal in there. Excellent video
the first sound check: incredible!!! Just beautiful.
I just watched his first visit on Wednesday, and then I see the teaser for this on Instagram yesterday. I think the description of his style as vocal (maybe from the TGU vids) is spot on. What a cool dude, and pretty damn hilarious! Thanks for another great one, got me thinking about how to do wet/dry with my QMX8
Hey man, for what it's worth, I do wet/dry with a qmx6. Loop 5 is always on, and has a tremolo after a lehle p-split. One output from the splitter goes to dry amp, the other output goes into trem, then through the rest of the wet effects. Have fun!
@@Adam-fz8vy Thanks Adam! I actually just tried this. I used my old Morley ABY pedal on the loop after my gain pedals. I recently got a Supro Tremolo, and it's awesome, but it colors the tone. I don't mind it except that it alters my main fuzz tone quite a bit. My main amp is a Marshall 1987, so I don't have a second of those lol. With my little Vox AC4-12, it sounds pretty cool. Gain stages are different, so there's a strange phase issue, but shows potential. Other con besides the phase is now the Strymon's sound on sound only goes to the wet amp. I'll have to see if it's a path I want to go down more. The wet/dry with a high gain fuzz, and the wet with an Afterneath>Harmonic Trem>Reverb sounds massive. Next up I'll try the wet into channel 2 of the (4-input) Marshall and see how that reacts. Thanks again :)
@@Adam-fz8vy Thanks, I saw the notification but the comment isn't showing here yet. The trem is great. With my power situated better, it isn't hurting the fuzz now. As TPS says, VCPI lol. Its preamp gives a little color, I really like what it does for the single coils. Turn depth all the way down, and gain up, and it's basically a cool dirt pedal. If I recall, Pete Thorn's video on it shows that pretty well. So far, I'm keeping depth around 9 or 10 o'clock for a swirl that adds the effect, but doesn't feel in the way. I went with the Supro from the TC Choka, which is the upgraded Behringer, which was the copy of the old Boss trem. I'd buy the Supro again if that says anything. The TC is quite good also, a big ish foot print. The expression jack on the Supro is cool too, but a little quirky. My pedal (a Moog EP3) won't slow the speed all of the way, so I either need to set for the fastest, or slowest speed I want. Hadn't planned on using the expression jack but figured I try it out since it's there. The speed range with the knob is incredible
That was amazing!!
Soooo many T-Shirt opportunities in this episode LOL
“The smile of a man who is very wet”
“Because, TONE...”
Max Pind “just gingerly touch the tips”
Great video! I completely agree with Chris that wet/dry just cannot be captured by UA-cam. It just can't be recorded, and must be experienced. I've wanted that Harmonic trem since I first saw it on Landreth's board. Can't wait to hear what Chris does with this rig once he gets some time on it. Well done.
Was absolutely looking forward to see Dan explaining the SIS cables again but my hopes were destroyed in the first minute. At the next board building video we need a comeback of this stable
Great work and amazing tones!
Great great show guys!
BLEEEDIN AWESOME AUDIAL ECSTASY!
Great episode, full of interesting stuff. Chris Buck is a great player and a great bloke, too.
Amazing episode as always!
Awesome gear! Sweet playing!
Great show as ever guys (something therapeutic about a board build and tone setup), but I want to take a moment to talk about last nights TPS Live if I may? Not going to give a review other than to say the band was really tight, the vocals were quiet by a hair or two for my liking/clarity (was Dougies mic even on?) but otherwise the sound was excellent. Joey was obviously awesome - what a terrific, genuine and humble human being. The stand out thing I want to convey is about Dan and Mick. You both so obviously love performing deep down in your bones and your joy of being on stage was truly inspiring. However, it’s how very different you are. Dan is exactly what you’d expect - a perfectly formed fuzzy cuddly bundle of genius and enthusiasm who is the very embodiment of ‘dance like no one is watching’. He’s just so in the moment he could be on another planet. And Mick… there’s something… substantially more ‘3d’ about Mick’s presence. I can’t really put a finger on it. But while he exhibits the same joy as Dan, the thing that really stood out was the radiant look on his face while he watched Dan playing when he was completely in the zone (especially during No One Knows). Seriously, silly bromance clichés aside, that was a guy really overjoyed seeing his mate having a great night. You just don’t see friendships like that very often. Seriously touched me. Rock on guys, can’t wait to see your next show.
Ah man. Thanks so much! Something was in the air last night. Joey is such an inspirational human and it was having an effect on us all. A magic night. Thanks so much for coming!
“Enough reverb to take down a large mammal...”
And this would make another great TPS shirt!
I'll do the typical joke:
"How many bluesbreakers do you want Chris?"
"Yes"
Appreciate you guys for having the guts to show the entire process warts and all.
the intro is outstanding. I can't stop rewind and play.
I love pedalboard builds - no I love your pedalboard builds! Cheers lads :-)
This episode and the Matt Schofield one are the best. So much to learn, so many amazing phrases and tone. Loved these two episodes
What an amazing episode this was and what a talented player Chris is, so inspiring to watch him play, what a feckin' guitarist !!, keep these terrific episodes coming D&M :)
I did my board using the pedal patch cables.
They're really really good and reliable. Out of 30+ patch cables I only had to re do one plug. And they we're really REALLY good value for money. I didn't have anything like the level of problems Dan appeared to have.
