12 Deftones Riffs/Songs
Вставка
- Опубліковано 18 сер 2023
- Here are 12 awesome Deftones tunes. Most of them are from the earlier albums as I couldn't do the heavier 7-string songs. Also I watched the Stephen Carpenter play-throughs to get a better idea of how these are played. There are loads of them on UA-cam if you haven't seen them already.

im surprised how extremely accurate ur tones are for almost every band
Thank you. I don't always get close, but I try.
@@bloxsy_ it is not exact but close
@@bloxsy_What do you use to get that tone for ''change ''
(I have the same guitar )
Yeah his tones are pretty def
Notice how his picking position and intensity changes with every band. That has has a lot to do with guitars tone
That Mascara riff still gives me goosebumps
The ending riff from that song Reminds me of the Bridge riff from Infected by Demon Hunter.
My friend’s dad was in the 90s NoCal metal scene and said Deftones were the nicest guys and were super fun to play a show with.
RIP Chi Cheng.
rip noodle muncher
That Mascara tone was very spot on, damn

That My Own Summer tone is on point
Love to see the appreciation for the band's Adrenaline-era stuff. I've always felt that that record is criminally underrated in their wider discography, especially for how raw and aggressive it is. Hell, even though it's not their best in my opinion, I prefer it over a lot of their more popular/recent material. :p
Yes sir it is. BACK UP BACK BACK THA F&@K BACK IMA GET RESPECT. Yeh that song start alone caused more injuries in my garage.
Adrenaline and self-titled are the two I’ve ended up listening to the most in the past years. White Pony is forever king but omg I have listened to it so many times.
@@therewasascene Self-titled is also really good, I do agree. Honestly, as weird as this might sound coming from a Deftones fan, I never really got the appeal for WP. Nothing particularly stuck out to me on that record for the most part. I found “Elite” and “Knife Prty” to be really bad (at least as far as vocals went), probably some of the worst songs the band has even written and released. I only really cared for “Korea” and “Change (In the House of Flies)”. You can like it if you want obviously, that’s fine and I don’t judge, I just have very strong opinions on much of Deftones’ works. :p
@@mynamessky5436 That’s wild, man. No judgment here either - like what you like. That riff on elite was a big one for me so I didn’t really care what the vocal tone was doing too much. You know he recorded that with a styrofoam box around the mic? Might have something to do with the sound you don’t care for. And I assume the over-the-top warbley effect on the chorus.
Ooh..digital bath though?
@@therewasascene Yeah, that’s mainly it. I don’t care for him sounding like a robot. :p
“Digital Bath” isn’t too bad.
Used to listen to this stuff in my teenagehood... dark depressive metal... but there's also some beauty to it... I don't know.. it's a feeling, can't really explain through words... Good job bro. 😉😉
Thanks man. Much appreciated
Love this! 'My own summer' was one of the first riffs I learnt. On a classical guitar of course 😅
Bet that sounded nice! Classical guitars sound warm.
It did, nice ringing open strings 👍@@bloxsy_
Its my first riff too and i play it on classical guitar too because i don't have electric yet😆
Jesus I was pumped watching this whole video. I forgot how much I loved so many of these songs. Deftones was my first concert at 16. I always thought they were just so unique. Stephen carpenter melodic riffs were unique and powerful in their simplicity. I remember buying that MXR pedal literally just so I could play Be quiet and Drive . Great job dude
I feel like the old Deftones albums have aged very well, especially when compared to the other bands that were popular at that time.
White Pony is still one of my favorite albums. Great video!
Thanks man. Yeah I agree, a lot of that stuff still sounds as fresh.
for sure
You know their really early stuff was like Panthers or pig destroyer right? I saw the with monstermagnet in 90and they all had dreads down to their ass......it was heavy but completely different....I gotta say this stuff is way better.....oh yeah sugar ray was there too.....
Pantera
STILL BANGS AFTER ALL THESE YEARS, GOD BLESS DEFTONES
you’re a real one for putting the tunings in description
Bro mascara bored and be quiet sounded so accurate fr 😭🙏
Thanks dude
Steph let the riffs outta the bag on those clips. I dig his shredding a lot. Humble guy. You sound good, brother!
Yeah those videos were really good to see. And thanks dude.
0:27 ive known this riff for years and it still remains surprising and thrilling
Mascara is spot on.
LITERALLY LIKE
holy shit, you nailed those tones. be quiet and drive sounds literally identical. also, respect for having a bunch of adrenaline-era stuff in here. root is one of my favourites ever and i feel like that whole album doesn't get enough appreciation
I know people comment this on every one of your videos but seriously. The accuracy of these tones is fucking nuts
Thanks man. I appreciate it.
You are so incredibly talented dude, these riffs all sound identical to the studio versions. Hearing Minerva truly blessed my ears as it is my favorite of all time. Keep up the great work, you just earned a new subscriber!
Thank you very much dude!
The tones were perfect bro! Gorgeous sounding stuff
every song sounded great dude!
nailed the tones
and the riffs
appreciate you giving minerva the respect it deserves, one of my favorite riffs from the band 🙏
Fantastic attention to detail recreating the tones, sounding awesome!!
Thanks!
Oh man, your rendition of BQAD really transported me back in time. Love it!
This is the first correct Change intro I've ever seen on UA-cam. Thanks.
Thanks
looking for that comment
I love their riffs so much 🥰
The tones are spot on!
Mascara is a standout for me too, sir. I loved to play Root when I first got into Deftones.
I was so scared when I haven't found "Bloxsy" channel :D Great job and great tuning! My ears blessed
Thanks. Yeah the name change probably didn't help
The tone is literally perfect
Man, I didn't think you would sell out to Levi's like that. Damn. Just kittens. Love your content. RIP Albini.
Great represenation and choices from my favorite band, well done sir.
Thank you
This reminds me of dipping my toes into some of Deftones stuff about a year ago, even if I didn't get that far into it myself.
amazing video!!
sounds straight from the albums!
Digital bath is on spot. I love it.
back to school was so beautiful
I enjoyed every single minute .😮
Dude the tone is on POINT
Brilliant joob man, now another 12 😉😉😉😉
Be quiet and drive away blew tf outta meeee! They all sounded awesome but that one was simply 😘❤️
Change was one of my absolute favorites growing up.
Great video dude, some of their best riffs!
I love them, but I feel like they've REALLY simplified things to a point of almost being boring with their new songs and using 8+ strings. I think their 7 string and down songs have much more memorable riffs.
Not to say they're aren't good ones: Gauze, Radiant City, Acid Hologram, Risk, 976 Evil, Spell Of Mathematics, Poltergeist, and a handful more I can't think of all have sick riffs! And for a 30 year old alt metal band, they're ABSOLUTELY the most consistent band ever and deliver quality after quality album. I think they could get weirder sometimes is all.
Thanks man. I'm not as familiar with the newer stuff so I'll check that out.
Their sound now is less about riffs and traditional metal elements and more about texture and song structure. They’ve figured themselves out and they’ve matured from the foundation they established through their first few albums
this is awesome
Fuck yeah nicely done! This made me pick up a guitar for the first time in a while re-learn some of these so thanks heaps!
Wish I could dial in the tones like you have tho they are pretty spot on!
Thanks mate! That's really cool to hear. Hope you keep it up! The tones are from a Boss Katana amp if that helps at all.
tones are perfect. Nothing better on youtube
yessssssss every deftones' videos should start with 'my own summer'!!!
This is amazing
Essa banda criou os melhores riffs da segunda metade dos anos 90 e início dos anos 2000
Was fully expecting to hear Kimdracula, one of (if not) the best from them, was not dissapointed tho! you are pretty fucking good and your tone is almost identical to Steph's, plus you choose great riffs anyways.
Nice video bro
sounds amazing as always!! it would be nice if you made a tutorial on how to play Be Quiet And Drive (if you havent already), since i would love to learn it on guitar :)
Thanks. I was thinking of doing that.
change hit me in my soul
man you are amazing
Thanks
Sounds great dude
Thanks!
Be quiet and drive was my first deftones love
So cool❤
Clean af wow
the block you got me into guitar like 5 years ago ily
Aw thats awesome.
Niiice! Got me thinking about this time and wondering if At The Drive In / The Mars Volta would make for a good video
That would be fun. Any suggestions of songs/riffs?
@@bloxsy_ One Armed Scissor is definitely iconic, and I like Invalid Litter Dept. And then there are lots of good Mars Volta songs but I've always loved Eriatarka! I've tried to play it a few times though and it's a real challenging monster haha
One Armed Scissor is the one I know. I'll check out some of the others too.
Steven is a guitar genius
I like covers, but i found more relaxing to just listen to the guitar riffs without no other sound, sounds awesome man
Thanks dude. Glad you appreciate it.
Its harder to find guitar covers without people singing their shitty voice, I like this typa video
@@sleshhsh i meant covers with the original song in the back, it makes even hard to listen to the person doing the cover
nailed it
I'd love to see you do "Battle-Axe"
Без My own Summer это видео не могло быть!❤❤❤
wow I didn't know about vintage guitars until your videos, the deftones sound is spot on, what kind of distortion/other effects are you using?
I’m just using a boss katana amp. All the sounds are built into there 🙂
i aspire to be like this some day...
Heavy riffage, love it, i don't know if you've ever listened to a band called "These animal men " great British/English band that were really getting a lot of hype around the early mid 90s. I seriously think you should check them out, fantastic guitar band,
Thanks. I've never heard of them. I'll check them out though, always good to listen to something new.
yes!
I noticed you playing the third string with you pinky in my own summer, i’ve never seen anyone play it like that so I went to the Stephen carpenter play through video and I think you might be right.
Yeah I copied what he was playing.
Mascara
Pretty much got really into Deftones with Minerva... who is she anyway?....the desert scenes in the video with the smoke blowing into the sunrise...it's still awesome
Minerva ❤
I was anxiously waiting for Swerve to start banging lol
Your tone for Mascara was extremely accurate. Wow
Thanks!
Digital bath was amazing
Chi era Deftones will always be the best
Deftones ❤
Damn! Both guitar sound so good
Thank you!
Hi brother. I have to say, your tone is so good, this video alone is highly making me consider getting a Boss Katana 50 Mk2. Congrats man, you sound amazing. How do you go about capturing the sound though? Are you using an interface and a program or just a mic? Thank you.
Thank you. On the Katana there is a USB output that you can use to plug directly into a computer or laptop like an interface. Then I recorded it into GarageBand and add a little reverb from there.
Good looks.
Deformes ❤
Nailed em
Thanks!
we have matching guitars omg
The best for the end
ily
fucking awesome man!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
what are you amp settings? and do you use any pedals?? your tone is spot on, especially mascara
Thanks. I think the key to that sound is the neck pickup. Gives it that softer tone, and I rolled back the distortion a bit.
Stephen carpenter is a smart guy. He doesn't do much acrobatic shit on the guitar but he uses tunings and tone to get really nice sounding chords without having to move much
I had to comment this literally my first time commenting on a video but man is that Mascara tone so spot on wtf how did you achieve this please tell me 🙏😭
I switched to the neck pickup and that helped a bit.
Nice job.
Thanks
You’re welcome.@@bloxsy_
Listen i currently own a electric guitar and watching this just purely motivate me to be consistent on playing it!thanks so much!
Thanks dude. Keep it going!
i have the same quitar1
could you maybe make a tutorial on how to get that deftones tone? it sounds so incredible but i can’t ever get my amp and pedal settings to sound like this 🙏
Ok. I did a tutorial on how to play it but maybe I’ll do something about the tone
seconding this, would be super helpful!
Would love to get the Patches!
nice play that sound very good ! Can u tell me wich name is your guitars ?
Thanks! It’s a Vintage v100 and a Fender Cyclone
Is that a duo sonic? Never would have imagined that for this.
It's a Cyclone. Yeah I just wanted to try a different tone for the first album stuff.
I could tell by the colors of everything in the thumbnail he was going to nail the tones
No rocketskates!? Solid list tho 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽
@bloxsy I’m curious to know what amps and speakers you used to get these massive tones. Did you use more than one? Also I think you nailed all of these!
Thank you very much. I’m using a Boss Katana amp running direct into my laptop via usb. It’s quite basic really. All the sounds are from the amp.
@@bloxsy_ you should totally listen to the Jins
No love for kimdracula!? Those tones are excellent 💯
