Great job buddy. I made a similar work with mine RK84 but in my case, I put 2 layers of tape and other foam. Stabilizer's fix using silicon fast dry and change for Akko Rose Red Switches. In Keycaps, I change from PBT Pudim black from Hyperex (just the letter's keycaps) and have very similar result's from yours. Thanks to share!
I've watched many videos where all they do is put new keycaps in the keyboard and think they've done something amazing. That really shouldn't be the case, you on the other hand, care. You show that you actually want to prove that this board can sound better than it's previous iteration. I respect you for that, great video!
Thank you
Damn bro you went with the full course meal on this one lmfao
Good job, bro, keep going on the great videos, subbed
thank bro
i have this keyboard and idk how i've never thought of using the frame to hold the keycaps in place like that! it's like those triangles u use for 8 ball pool lol
The tape doesnt diffuse sound right? It just bounces it back I think because it has no holes. Without it, the foam below should diffuse it. Would be nice to test.
bác cho em hỏi với là lót foam case với PE 3m và silicon thì cái nào tốt hơn hay lót cả 2 cái cùng nhau thì có sợ ảnh hưởng gì đến mạch không và bác tape mod như thế k tránh các tụ ra thì có sợ vấn đề gì không ạ
hello i’m new to modding mechanical keyboard, so if i have a rgb backlight keebs that means i can’t do the pe foam mod right ??
has the rk84 same bottom row layout as the normal 60%, can i use standard layout keycaps?
nice, i did the same thing of pe foam mod, i got a thin foam piece and cut all the switch slots, was like hell, then i had even thinner layer of foam and used that as the foam where the switches would go in, the thinnest foam was prob 2-3 layers of paper thin, idk if i did it correctly
Nice, does it work? Do you feel any change in sound of the keyboard?
@@sonytv6438 well im just doing every mod that i could think of rn before my switches arrive so i dont rlly have a before and after
what lube did u use in stabilizer wire?
It kind of sounds like you just lowered the sound in the after results, because the background noise also has a lower tone there than in the before results.
I have to admit that those before and after are recorded at 2 different days. When I edit the video, I just added the source and forgot to balancing the volume level. It's my bad, so I will try to do it better in my next videos. Thank you for your comment. Happy new year and best wishes for you.
Can you just push the switches through the pe foam
Alright so I have a PE Foam from a monitor i bought but how do I know it's anti static?
Zamnn
I was wondering if i could use pe foam as case foam and also add tape mod on a non hot swap keyboard?
Yes of course, but for case foam I recommend poron foam instead of PE foam
Do these PE foam, between PCB and case, broke the PCB?? I also do this too, and which effects great sound with lubed switches. Thanks you
Như con trên video này thì đến bh vẫn đang hoạt động bình thường ạ
Hello, does the pe foam weakens the backlight?
No it does not. The pe foam 0.5mm is nearly transparent.
What was the screwdriver tool kit thingy u used? Btw nice bid and great build 👍
I bought it from Shopee Viet Nam as follow: shopee.vn/evebot.vn/11803247508
i'm not sure if it available in your place or not.
Xiaomi Precision Screwdriver Set
@@sonytv6438 cool i also use shopee vietnam
does it has the same sound result if im using xda or gsa profile keycaps?
I think the sounds are not similar because of the differences in material, height profile, thickness of the keycaps, but not sure how different. Maybe I will make a sound test video to compare them and comment the link here, you can watch it as a reference.
@@sonytv6438 looking forward to it, thanks
Hi there, I just made a comparison sound test video, please check it out for references

@@sonytv6438 thank you for the update!
I am thinking of doing the PE mod but I read there is a risk of PCB short-circuiting.
Are you still using this PE mod on this keyboard?
Yes, this keyboard is still working
@@sonytv6438 Okay great, then I will do the mod too.
Is it okay if i add case foam mod with the PE foam and tape mod? Is that too much or no?
I think it's ok to use all of them, many keyboards come with lots of foams.
Do you have links to where I can get those pre cut pe foams like yours ?
Actually I cut all the foams by myself, you can watch the previous video here

@@sonytv6438 is it the same video ? 😆
Haha same same but different
Bác ơi dán băng keo lên mạch như vậy có sợ dùng lâu ngày bị chảy keo ko ạ
Mình dùng loại masking tape này để mod: shopee.vn/B%C4%83ng-keo-ch%E1%BA%B7n-m%C3%A0u-c%E1%BB%91-%C4%91%E1%BB%8Bnh-gi%E1%BA%A5y-i.232495232.3150566297 thì thấy keo của nó rất nhẹ, với lại mình k dùng led nên nghĩ là bàn phím ko tỏa nhiệt đến mức chảy keo đâu bạn
I have optical yellows, do I just need to make one hole in the centre of the pe foam for each switch?
Great vid btw.
I've never used optical switches before, but I do research and find that there are sensors in the PCB. Thus, you have make the hole big enough to not cover these sensors. However, it might reduce the effect of PE foam mod. Btw, try it yourself and tell me the result. Thank you for your comment.
@@sonytv6438 I'm gonna try it in a week or so, ill let you know how it goes.
@@sonytv6438 I managed to do it, I cut rectangles out for each switch where the sensors are. I think it did have an effect, but it’s a bit hard to tell (as I also tape modded my board). I’m pretty sure it did though as it’s a bit poppier, I’ll post a comparison in a day or two on my channel and I might make a mini tutorial on how to pe foam mod optical boards as I couldn’t find any videos on how to, so someone out there might appreciate it.
@@Plexez Nice, I'm looking forward to watching it. Thank you.
05:37 did you make holes to each switch slot?
No, those are holes for screws, not for switch.
The switch pins go through the foam?
@@thrax6765 Yes, they go through the PE Foam
which one do you prefer ? No pe and tape or pe and tape
In my opinion, I prefer to add PE and tape mod
What type of tape did you use ?
In this video I used the Masking tape used in painting, but after read some recommendations, I made a new video about tape mod, please check it for updated information: ua-cam.com/video/_d3nnFQlolA/v-deo.html
what kind of screw does the plate have?
It has cross Philips head screws, in this video I used PH0 head screwdriver to open them.
@@sonytv6438 great thanks dude
hey, man. is that rk stock plates?
Yes, it is RK stock plate
How many millimeters of foam can fit inside the keyboard?
PCB foam is about 4mm and case foam is about 2 - 6 mm, you can use 2mm foam sheet and add 1 - 3 layers based on the shape of bottom case.
@@sonytv6438 Does it make sense to use cotton instead of foam?
@@holyzephyros Yes, I've seen some videos about it on UA-cam (they call it cotton mod), but I haven't try it yet.
how thick was that PE foam?
It's about 2mm
My switch has a hard time plugging through 2mm foam, did yours bent or anything? Or is there any tips to push the switch?
Most i can do is 1.5mm
In this video I used screwdriver to poke through PE foam at the center holes (for the largest pin of the switches), then I could plug the switches through easily.
The other solution I learned from the Internet: You can use the iron to flatten PE Foam (remember to put 1 layer of fabric or clothes between the iron and the foam).
Sorry for my bad English, hope you could understand and plug the switches succesfully.
I feel like I am doing this all wrong. I can't even put in the foam because the screws aren't long enough to tighten with the foam in between.... How thin does the foam need to be???
5mm
did you paint your plate?? Mine comes in white even though the keyboard is black :(
No, this is stock plate. Ah, Is your keyboard RGB or white LED version? I've seen 3 RK84 keyboards, 2 of them are white LED version and the plates come with the same color with cases. The other one is RGB version, and it has white plate and black case just like you. Thus, my hypothesis is white plate make RGB LED look better, so the RGB version always come with white plate?
@@sonytv6438 ahhh i guess, yes i have the rgb version
What effect does the tape give?
more deep and thocky sound, it really depends on your type of switch
I'm not sure how to describe it correctly, but I made some sound test videos, you can check these videos for references:
- ua-cam.com/video/WVyUrmsNfps/v-deo.html at 4:29 - the keyboard with no foam added
- This video at 7:21 - I added case foam and 1 layer PCB foam
- This video at 8:25 - I added 1 more layer PCB foam and tape mod
@@sonytv6438 THOCK! \o/
i recently purchased a RK84 and to my surprise, it's been mod already.. PE foam inbetween the board has been factory added. Is that normal?
I purchased 3 RK keyboards before and there was no foam included, maybe your keyboard is the updated version
Also got mine with dampener foams in between the pcb and another foams for the back panel. I thought someone gave secondhand. Thank goodness I was not the only one.
is masking tape the same as paper tape and painters tape?
I think they are the same, but if you live in an area with high humidity conditions, I recommend you use 3M masking tape (243J)
@@sonytv6438would you recommend paper tape in parts of the southeast?
Yes, you could try it but maybe you should check it monthly for safety
is it safe for the pcv to put tape on? o
Yes, It is safe if you use the properly type of tape (i recommend masking tape 3M 243J)
Vãi cả desk mat MBbank ạ :))) bác kiếm ở đâu cho em xin địa chỉ với.
Này tự in riêng thôi bác ơi :)))

What tape did you use?
In this video I used masking tape (the one that used in painting)
@@sonytv6438 when you tape the masking tape at the back of the board, you also have to make holes for the screws and wire sockets only right?
Btw is it safe to do the tape mod? Bcs I'm new to mechical keyboard thx
I think there is a potential risk when do the tape mod, especially when you live in the area with high humidity climate. But you can reduce the risk by using high quality tape (I recommend 3M 243J) and covering only the switches' sockets. I made another video about this, you can see here: ua-cam.com/video/_d3nnFQlolA/v-deo.html
Can tape mod use with any tape ?
For the sound effect: yes, but for the safety of your keyboard, you should use good masking tape (3M 243J)
Can u still remove the tape
Yes, this masking tape is easily remove whenever you want
