  • In this video I will show you through a beginners guide on how to wash your car at home the easy way without scratching it by simplifying the process without getting too much into detail and giving you an easy step step guide to improve the look of a Black Car.
The reason I chose a black Tesla Model X to wash is because they don't have the greatest of paintwork and often enough even brand new ones suffer from swirls caused by dealership car detailers. This video will go through the 2 bucket method and some of the sequences have been shortened as is perfect for those of you who like to clean their car at home (also known as Weekend Warriors).
If you want see more videos on how to wash a car with a pressure washer then check out some of our other videos in Car Detailing transformation Playlist. These safe wash methods apply to people at home and at work.
NEXT VIDEO: I review a ceramic spray sealant which some people struggle with on black cars due to smearing.

@@epicautomotivedetailing that sounds promising. As I’m more a pocket money detailer (transitioning to retirement so making money to use as pocket money on my past times) I’m not in such a hurry. I rarely book more than one client a day. Having said that my last job was a full three day interior exterior detail with ceramic coating on all surfaces - $1,200.00

Spot on points Dave👍🏻 Hybrid Solutions ceramic spray wax I have found and use regular works best for me if I spray it into the microfiber towel then have a second towel handy to buff to perfection. Works for me. You can chase it with a damp cloth then wipe again with a dry towel but that’s 3 steps if you buff it off fast no need for the damp towel. Cheers 🇨🇦👍🏻 look forward to your next video.

Single bucket for my personal cars. I liked Jon's (of Forensic Detailing) conclusion that you will cause more marring on the paint from claying, than you will in a year of careful single bucket washing (using a pre-wash where required).

Yes - I use the one bucket method on my Honda Jazz - in fact I've always used it but I can see on an expensive car you might want that extra safety margin. I always give the car a thorough rinse, I apply minimal pressure with the wash mitt and use a decent shampoo. I also wash from top to bottom and I finish off the lower parts of the car with a separate wash mitt. My feeling about the 2BM is that the most damage must be done by the initial pass of the wash mitt over still contaminated paint so I tend to think getting as much crud off as possible before the contact wash is more important. Then again I could be talking b+++++ks. Another great video btw.

One bucket normally but after a couple of sections I give the mitt a blast with the pressure washer which is probably the same or if not more effective than the tbm. Especially this time of year when you can pickup small bits of leaves etc that you couldn’t see/remove when pre washing

I'm one bucket, but I do take extra care, time and effort with the pre-wash. I can safely say that those GTechnic wash mitts are very good indeed. After a machine wash every time, they come up soft still after over a year of use and abuse. They do shrink a bit, so I treated myself to a black Friday deal and got a spare one in stock. I do always rinse the granny out of the mitt before washing in the machine.

I generally carry out a maintenance wash on a weekly basis and, for that, I use 1 car and 1 wheel bucket... However... If its been more than a week or if the car is particularly dirty, I will use 2 wash buckets as the pre-wash stage can only do so much! I still spend longer pre-washing than I do actually contact washing though!!

Another great video Dave. I would have turned up with sponge and chamois leather just for a laugh - when the owner asked for the special treatment. Do you remember Turtle Wax doing a car wash called Hot Wax that used to turn the sponges black. It actually left a hydrophobic finish. I use no buckets for speed. Just a spray bottle with diluted car shampoo which I spray onto the mitt and paintwork and then use Sonax BSD as a drying aid when drying the car with the microfibre towel. Ps the Tesla looked great after your efforts.

3 buckets. One, just for wheels. Seperate. Then two buckets, with grit guards, for a wash bucket and a rinse bucket for the panels. 4 wheel/tyre and wheel arch brushes. Long handled soft, for inside wheel arches etc. Short stubby handle soft for the rims and tyres face etc. Round detailer brush for the spokes, wheel nuts etc. Another skinny brush for getting behind the wheel or between the spokes etc. And a black microfiber mitt for hand washing. Green microfiber wash mitt for the panel wash, with the two buckets with grit guards. Better quality round detailers brush for intricate areas and around wing mirrors, grille, etc. Seperate round detailers brush for interior detailing and not even beginning to list the huge number of polish applicators, or seperate drying towels, etc. Glass, panels and trims. And this is just my daily driver and weekend fun, Ford Ranger 4x4

Multi mitt method. (One mitt per panel), some say it is better than the 2 bucket method because you are eventually going to have dirty rinse water. With multiple mitts you wont have that because you are using a clean mitt every time you clean a new panel.

One bucket, Have tried 2 buckets but like others say it takes time. Also, seems to me that even when you rinse, after a couple of dunks the rinse water is dirty anyway, so should it then get to a third bucket LOL!
I do use a big valeting style bucket now and a grit guard, and I use a little extra shampoo for lube. I also keep mitts separate and follow a top down process.(learned by watching too much UA-cam :))
also ,keep a separate bucket and tools for wheels and arches.
I wash the cars more often now, that shortens the time it takes when they are not too dirty. Pre rinse and wash according to the dirt.

Always 2 buckets for me even for maintenance washes however I do get why some only use one. I know some people say it takes longer but surely you’re only talking of a few minutes here or there but again I guess it comes down to personal choice in the end. I don’t think either method is right or wrong.

Hi. This is a general comment as I have just come across you channel and subscribed so not been following all you have to offer. Apologies if you have answered these comments before. My son has a van he has been using for courier deliveries. So it needs a clean and has minor scratches. Will doing the following rock your boat or should I be doing something different:
Rinse off the car first to remove any loose dirt. Snow foam leave to soak then rinse
Shampoo using hand mit with the two bucket method then rinse
    Clay bar with lubrication.
Compounding then Turtle wax 75th anniversary version.

    • @epicautomotivedetailing
      @epicautomotivedetailing  3 роки тому +1

Most people would say no but i think it does. If you think about colours like silver or white dont reflect the light in the same way as darker colours do when you get swirls or scratches so in my opinion 100% yes. Think paintwork like white can be more forgiving with one bucket method but then those colours show more polluted fallout from the air so its swings and roundabouts really as they say! Thanks Leslie

I don’t use or trust mitts or sponges. They are difficult to get into tight spots during the wash. I use one soap bucket with about 10 microfiber cloths. I wash one or two panels and throw the towel in a rinse bucket and rinse the panel with the hose. Pull out another clean soapy rag, wash another panel or two, rinse the panel and throw the dirty rag in the rinse bucket. Repeat until the car is washed. I’ve only used clean towels throughout the wash, no mitts holding dirt, no mitt rinsing or stopping. Then, I blow dry with my electric leaf blower (want to get a Bigboi dryer), then spray with Xpress wax and wipe softly with plush edgeless MF cloth to a clean, shiny finish. Done. Oh, and I always do wheels first with soft brushes and clean MF rags and woolies. I dry wheels with the blower and I wipe down rims with xpress wax with edgeless MF cloth and wipe tires with water based dressing (Optimum).

I simply couldnt be bothered to waste time sending it back (the laziness lol) I have seen few people try just washing with mitts. Think larry at Ammo NYC did that in a video once.
