  • In this video I’ll be taking you through an exterior car cleaning starter kit. I got the idea for this video after a friend asked me which products and equipment, I’d recommend for them to get as they were starting completely from scratch.
    So, I had a long think and have put together this video to highlight all the products I’d get first if I were to build a kit for the first time.
    Here’s a link to a playlist I have where I talk about my current favourite products for different aspects of car detailing if you’re looking for some more recommendations: • Playlist

    I had this happen recently. My friend bought a car, and wanted this to be the first one he didn't take to an auto wash. So he asked me which products he should start with. It was actually great fun to stand in front of my cabinets and try to pick one of each product for him.

    Great recommendations. Having detailed amateur and pro for 25 years, I recommend ditching 2BM! Instead use 1 bucket and 6 cheap noodle mitts per car. Use each side of each mitt just once, then discard to laundry pile. It is far safer than constantly rinsing mitts mid wash to reapply to car, it’s uses far less water, and also means carrying far less weight around. Back problems got me to this method, but time saving keeps me there. Great vid btw.

    Very good video and well explained. In relation to the foam applicator, I already had the Karcher K4 and recently purchased a foam applicator that attaches simply and gives great coverage. If you already have a K4 I would certainly recommend it. If you don't have a Karcher power washer then certainly the recommendation in this video would be a good alternative.

  • @agent0066
    @agent0066 6 місяців тому +7

    One thing to consider when choosing a pressure washer is the length of hose. B&Q have their own Karcher models which have shorter hoses to save them money. My K2 has a 3m pressure hose which means I constantly have to move the washer around. I'd say make sure you have at least 5m pressure hose or it'll drive you nuts.

    Hi Heather another good watch and very informative I wish I had seen this when I started out as it would have saved me a fortune but I have tried a lot of products and had fun in the process. I agree with most of your choices. I bought Autobrite Direct Citrus 5L in one of their promotions very cheap and for general cleaning it is diluted 50 to 1 I think it will last years. Like a lot of things if you have money upfront and buy in bulk it saves money but you do need to know what to buy so these videos are really helpful.
    Thanks.

      Looking for some advice please, l've just washed my car thoroughly for the first time and have noticed what appears to be water spots that I can't remove with standard cleaning products or polish. This is concerning because my car is only a few days old. I believe what has happened is that I rinsed it down with water and left it to dry, l didn't realise that this would be harmful to the paintwork. I live in Spain and on the two days l did this it was sunny. It's probably the worst thing l could have done. Is there a product that will safely remove water spots? Any advice would be much appreciated, thank you

    • @AutoCareHQ
      @AutoCareHQ  2 роки тому +1

      Don't worry, they'll come off! I like using the Tac Systems Water Spot Remover spray for that if the water spots have been there for a little while. If you can't get that product in Spain then any dedicated water spot remover should be able to tackle them. I'd recommend washing the car first as normal and then drying it off with a microfiber towel. After that you can use the water spot remover and a fresh microfiber towel to wipe the surface and remove them

    Cool videos! I use a microfibre wheel brush on a stick. Works great for a quick clean, then I just use a microfibre mit to get rid of any bits i've missed. The bristles on the other cheap armorall brush I got felt way too harsh. I've also started using the marolex axel foamer which makes the BH Autofoam nice and thick and dissolves the tough bits.Then I just get 2 buckets of turtle wax and that blue simoniz snow shampoo for the contact clean. Tyres i use the instant tyre dressing from autoglym or some random stuff in a can. 🙂

    With that said, i'd probably replace KC Greenstar with Bilt Hamber Surfex HD, its the class leading APC and is cheaper I think. Id also replace your GT Sigma with Autoglym Aquawax/Express wax. More wideley available, cheap and easy to apply as a drying aid.

    Great videos, I’m doing some things right but others not so much.
    I started using a local car wash a couple of years ago but now that it costs 7-10 pounds to get a car washed (probably badly), I might get off my @rse and invest in a couple of bits and bobs to do it better myself!
    I’ve tried cherry snow foam before with pressure washer, initially with a karcher snow foam lance but that was rubbish, so got a different one off eBay that was better. Was never that impressed with the snow foam though, or the pressure washer. Wasn’t convinced it did much, but maybe time to try again with the correct products.

    Hi Heather - some good points here but would disagree regarding the microfibre products for contact washing. I have a ceramic-coated PPF car and use rinseless wash products like ONR for routine maintenance washes - there are a couple of specialized sponges that are designed and ideal to use with rinseless washes and I can say for this type of wash i wouldn't use anything else - a far better product than microfibre mitts.

    Hi, thanks for the videos, really good!
    Getting prepped for a new (to me) car arriving, and your videos have gotten me interested in keeping it looking good.
    One question if you have time - with the GT TWO Sigma, can that be used on the alloy wheels as well as the body work, or is there something better for the wheels?

    • @AutoCareHQ
      @AutoCareHQ  Рік тому +1

      Thanks for watching and congrats on your new car!
      Sigma can be used on alloys but it usually only lasts a few weeks. Instead I'd recommend a spray and rinse sealant (something like Gyeon Wetcoat is a good choice) for the wheels as it's so quick to apply few weeks or so. You could always go for that on the paintwork too if you only want to get one product :)

    Excellent video Heather. I have been using Soft 99 Fusso for some time. I find that this is long lasting and and provides excellent beading. However, rain drops seem to sit forever on the paint and then dry to form 'water spots'. The Fusso also seems to attract dust so the car quickly looks dirty. I am thinking of trying a sealant like Menzerna Powerlock or the GT Sigma you recommend. I assume that the Sigma does not reduce the appearance of minor swirls in the paint? How does it perform in terms of keeping the paint 'clean'?

    • @AutoCareHQ
      @AutoCareHQ  2 роки тому +1

      Cheers Steve! I found that issue as well when I used to use the old version of Fusso. Sigma is definitely a slicker product which I've noticed helps to keep the panels cleaner between washes. I don't think it has much filling capability unfortunately, however GT are releasing a new wax very soon which does more in that respect. I've been testing their development version of the wax and it's really impressive. Great durability and water behaviour and the darkening effect it has is unreal. Could be worth hanging on for that if you wanted to try another wax!
