I know this is an old video of Mandy’s, but I have been making my own wonton and dumpling wrappers using this recipe and technique for over 3 years now, and it really does work every time. I cannot roll my dough by hand as thin as Mandy can, even with lots of practice, but I use my pasta roller on the 2nd thinnest setting and that works perfectly.
You really do have to adjust the ratio of flour to water depending on the weather, though. After you work with dough a bit, you’ll understand what you need by using your senses; the texture of the dough, how well it comes together, and how much force you need while rolling it out, for example. I had been sure I’d never master something that looked so hard, but it just isn’t that complicated when you have a good teacher who explains the process in detail. I’m definitely not talented, but I can make passably good wrappers and skins now. It’s a tasty therapy for me whenever I want to work with my hands but need to let my mind relax and wander a bit.

I love her. She is on point. Kneading the dough and expressing with good directions. My mom taught me a trick on biscuits was to let the liquid sit a while to mix in the flour. As far as the measurement a rubber band or tape on the ends of the rolling pin can give proper measurement for thickness.

Thank you for this! We made it for the first time. Wonton wrappers have usually been readily available here. But because of the quarantine policy, we were forced to make our own wrappers. My kids literally worked for lunch, taking turns rolling out the dough into thin (or as thin as they can manage) sheets. Took a while! We used it to make siomai. We enjoyed it! Sending hellos from the Philippines! Keep safe and keep cooking everyone!

That corn starch method looks like a legitimate food hack to me! I struggled with wantons and ravioli because I was always dusting with flour and just making my dough tougher to work into shape, which now that I think about the gluten, that makes sense! I'm definitely trying this method out! Thank you! Savory, sweet n' hot pork wontons, here I come!😎🤘💖

Hi Mandy! I love all your videos. Great, clear instructions, and I especially enjoy when you explain the purpose and cultural significance/ background of certain dishes and cooking techniques. If I could make one recommendation, maybe put up some sound dampening material in your kitchen when you record live audio. Even just hanging towels on the walls or on the ceiling out of view of the camera will significantly reduce the echo and improve your audio quality. Just a thought. Thank you for your videos!

Wei! Nî hâo? Hope you are well & safe in your adopted home in Ecuador! Duō xiè, duō xiè, duō xiè, duō xiè for your clear & highly meticulous videos & for helping me sharpen my dumpling cuisine skills! I have practiced the leaf folding technique for weeks & am now ready to make cinnamon banana dumplings for a close friend’s birthday. He loves gardening, so the leaf-shaped dumpling theme will be absolutely perfect for the occasion! I serve these dessert dumplings w/ honey on the side. Perhaps if I visit you in Ecuador someday, I can share all the wonderful things I learned from your instructions, INCLUDING learning the patience it takes to mix, knead & roll homemade dumpling wrappers. The time invested is so much more worth it; I discovered that homemade wrappers facilitate the speed in accomplishing the more intricate folding techniques because the dough is stickier & seals far, far better than the store-bought variety. No real need to stop & moisten the edges required for commercially-produced brands. Aloha & Mahalo from North Baltimore! Zhù hâo! :-)

I meant larger squares, I really like the way you explain how to make the egg rolls, you make it look so easy.

Beautiful! I enjoy several of your cooking recipes, as we can't go out to eat Chinese food now I make it at home. Fortunately I have several good sauces from the international store to help have the authentic flavor. These wrappers are so impressive! Simple, and your demonstration is excellent. Thank you!!

tip: you can put a damp towel underneath your bowel to stop the bowel from moving, if you want it stationary. Thank you for a wonderful video!

Thank you for this recipe and demonstration. I live in a remote community in British Columbia, Canada
My family likes to experience different cuisines and tastes, and asking for wontons during global pandemic.
