    Great video, but after all the work with the PVC jambs why use regular plywood where there is risk of rot and why use a threshold with untreated wood that’ll only rot out in time?

    • @YouCanDoIt2
      @YouCanDoIt2  7 днів тому +1

      Hi! Thank you for watching the video. I understand the comment. The reason the jamb needed to be replaced was because there wasn't a proper seal / caulking around the door frame, which allowed water to seep in and cause dry rot. Once the rotten portion was replaced and a proper seal / caulking was preformed, any additional water should no longer be an issue. I hope that this information was informative.👍

    The threshold is angled down, how did you angled the pvc to the threshold? Atvthe bottom?

    • @YouCanDoIt2
      @YouCanDoIt2  26 днів тому +2

      Hi. If you fast forward to about 16 minutes you'll notice that the Boss Jamb has a "step down" type profile to it. The Boss Jamb is actually side screwed to the threshold, so the angle of the threshold is not affected when it's all put back together. Hope this information helps 👍

    Fyi, its not necessary to notch, especially if you dont attach the kickplate to the new jamb pieces.

    Excellent video! What did you use to fasten the pvc brickmold?

      Thanks for watching. I used galvanized finish screws with small heads so that I could fill them in with caulking. You could also use stainless steel screws with small heads.

    The door threshold will get stomp on daily,
    not sure about the idea to tie the pvc kit to it.

      Hi. Thank you for watching the video. I see your point on the threshold. But, If you have a proper subfloor base underneath the threshold, there should not be any play in the movement of the threshold, so it would not affect the door jamb. Most pre-hung exterior doors come with the threshold attached (side screwed) into the door jamb. For this particular installation, I followed the installation instructions directly from the manufacturer of the Boss Door Jamb Repair Kit website. I usually try to do that, so that others who purchase the product can watch a video instead of trying to decipher confusing instructions. I hope this information helps out. Thanks again for watching and leaving a comment...always appreciated!👍

    What's the purpose of the JB weld ? The piece is being held by screws

    • @YouCanDoIt2
      @YouCanDoIt2  Місяць тому +1

      HI. That's a good question. The manufacturer recommended using White JB Weld to fill in the screw holes and the seam (if necessary). Once the JB Weld dries, it's just like the surrounding PVC in look and feel...so, painting over these areas is smooth and leaves a flawless finish. Thanks for watching!👍

    Did you replace the brick mold with a PVC version? If not, what will prevent it from rotting again?

    • @YouCanDoIt2
      @YouCanDoIt2  3 місяці тому +2

      Hi. Yes! The new brick molding is PVC and I caulked around it to ensure that water doesn’t leak behind it.👍

      @@YouCanDoIt2 Awesome, thanks for the quick reply! Think I'll just repair the bottom sections of the brick moldings, like the jambs rather than the entire thing. They're in great shape other than the bottom rot and I have two doors to do. BTW - I went to the Boss Jambs site to watch an install video ... it was yours. 😃

    • @YouCanDoIt2

      @@philshock3805 That sounds like a great idea with replacing only the bottoms of the brick mold…since that’s where the rot occurs. And, yes, the owner of “Boss Jambs” reached out and asked for permission to post our video on his website…it was quite an honor. I wish you the best with your project 👍

    $80 for a pair? That’s crazy expensive. I’ll make my own from stock pvc 1x.

      I know….but, it’s not as easy as it may seem. I looked into duplicating them myself for additional jobs. However, you have to router in a notch for weatherstripping, and most stores will not sell small sections of PVC. Therefore, you have to buy large sticks of it and you need two different thicknesses for the door jamb and door surround. By the time you’re done purchasing all of that and making a set you’re into it well over $80. If you are making several sets, then it might be worth it. But, for one set it’s really not worth the headache and is easier to purchase premade.👍

    He said that the house has a security system and the hole needed to be drilled to put a magnet contact back in the door jamb. Most of us probably will skip that step.😊
