"I've tried so hard to tell myself that you're gone
But though you're still with me
    I've been alone, all along."

The video implies that Amy is dead -- her feet never touch the ground, she has symbolic winding cloths on her hands, and the fly lands on her fingers. And the man is clearly bereft and wandering as if he's looking for something he knows he won't find -- looking up as if to find her there.

I always kind of read it as a follow up to their first hit, where she fell from the ledge. Notice the building he looks up at seems to be similar architecture. Also the car she is laying on looks like the roof is crushed from something falling on it, like someone falling from a ledge to the parked car below.

Thanks, lady. Never heard this before. It severely dented my carefully crafted armor of cynicism. We exist in Time. It never stops flowing, nothing ever stays the same, and so we constantly experience loss, loss, loss. It was here and I loved it and now it's gone. God damn, I'm tearing up...

This is a small revelation for me... I'm agoraphobic and have major anxiety disorder. Thinking that this is all there is, work and sleep and loss... it scares the shit out of me that there's no way to get off of this ride. Why are we counting the hours? And why would I get so attached to someone when it's inevitable they'll be lost... I also love Fallen by Sarah McLachlan

The song was based on a short story that Ben Moody (blonde haired guy at the piano in the vid) wrote about losing his grandfather. In the video, Amy is the spirit of the person that has gone, singing Ben's words as he mourns her loss. You can see that her feet never touch the ground, and no one seems to see her in the video, and she is wearing wraps around her hands and feet, traditionally used in burial rituals indicating she is dead and it's her spirit we see.
It's one of the most emotional songs for me. I cry almost every time I hear it, and I'm a man in his 50s. Her voice is so clean and pure. One of my favourite female vocal artists of all time.

  • @SweetThing
    @SweetThing 4 роки тому +8

Did you even notice what a beautiful voice she has?! Her voice made the song. Nobody can sing like Amy Lee. The piano was haunting as well, but Amy Lee plays piano and even though I guess they thought the part would be better played by a guy on piano, Amy played the piano for this song. This was one of the most moving songs I've ever heard. xx

I found this song about 3 months after my mom's death from ovarian cancer, It became my song for her. Every line was written for our situation, I was there for her every time she cried, heard her screams when she was dying and held her and supported throughout the years. Although she was gone she was very much in my soul and lived in my mind and behind my eyes for years, even to this day 13 years later. "You still have all of me" Always and Forever mom 1950-2007

When this song was released, I was married to a man with severe addiction problems. This song spoke to me. He was with me physically, but he was not with me emotionally. Our marriage was destroyed. I stood by him through countless rehabs and relapses. After 17 years, I had to walk away for my own sanity. I had to get my children out of all that dysfunction. This song meant so much to me.

He is very respectful of everyone and kind. He was competing in The World´s Best in 2019 but he retired. This caused annoyance in Rupaul but Dimash was more concerned with leaving the little ones that competed with him frustrated and seeing the level and quality that he has, he would very likely have won. By the way the prize was of 1,000,000.00 dollars. Some experts said that he is the best singer in the world.

I subscribed a few weeks ago and going through your reactions and saw you did this. There's no need to hide your emotions from such lovely pieces of music. Even I get emotional listening to this song.
My partner had this song at her mother's funeral, who passed away from cancer at 48 yo and my partner was 3 months pregnant with our daughter (her first grandchild).
I've mixed feelings about this song, sad to see such a joyful woman slip away. But to see how strong my partner was/is in such difficult circumstances.
    Thank you for the reaction.

    The Chorus-
When you cried, I wiped away all of your tears (Rev 21:4)
When you screamed, I fight away all of you fears (Psalm 34:4)
I held your hand through all of these years (Isaiah 41:13)
You still have all me (Psalm 16:5)

Even sadder when the person you know became the person you KNEW. That's worse than death. Because they chose to walk away and become a stranger again. That's what I get from this. Lived it, hard to deal with waking up next to someone after 15 years and 5 kids to realize you don't know them anymore. That was 8 years ago and I still haven't got over her yet

I always believed that this is a ghost story: her love is gone, but his spirit still lingers, haunting her every moment of her life. Think of the "Sixth Sense" but from the living person's point of view.

Brent D Such an incredible tragedy. It’s bad enough to lose your spouse, but Vanessa lost a child, as well. I can’t even begin to imagine what that family, and those of all involved, is going through. RIP.

Ben Moody(the pianist)wrote this song in high school. Amy wrote the bridge. Many people believe it is about his grandfather however, in an interview he said it was all fictional.
The listener can apply meaning of the song to whatever they want.
The video is an interpretation of the director...✌😉

I think she lost her sister when she was a child. She passed away. That's whats it about. It's not about a guy or something. The guy in the video is just one of the bandmembers. 😉
