I lost mine 10 years ago and still think of him almost every day and sometimes dream of him. When I'm troubled I visit his grave and a calm comes over me, I come away with the feeling things will be okay, and they usually are. I will be buried in the same grave as him. She’s in white, he’s in black. She is always on something (car roof, tree, scaffolding, etc.) and he is always grounded. Amy Lee once said that this song was the perspective of a spirit trying to move on after death, but her loved one can’t let go.
Amy lost her little sister who was 3yo when she passed. And while Amy has a lot of songs openly dedicated to her, this one was not confirmed to be such, but there is no doubt in my mind the event influenced this incredibly sad song. Amy Lee is an amazing singer. She is the lead singer for Evanescence. Bring Me To Life is one that you've probably heard. It's the song that put them on the map.
The times I've bawled my eyes out while listening to this song... It was breathtaking when it came out. Its that soft, velvety Aimee Lee's voice texture that is so hauntingly beautiful. Also she is an amazing pianist.
Man, I got catapulted back to my teenager times and experienced that pressure on my chest and pain again. Haven't listened to that song for a decade at least.
I don't think you are using the term "underrated" correctly. She is absolutely not. Vocal coaches, professional musicians, and music legends have all highly praised her voice. That's not underrated in any sense. I have not met a single person who doesn't love her voice.
@@brucethrasher8551 I'm Scottish, so in a position to comment there is not enough recognition here. It's all relative. Thank you for your 'correction' . I do however have an English Literature PHD, therefore I am familiar with the meaning of "underrated".
Amy Lee has an amazing voice. Another female singer you should check out is Lzzy Hale from Halestorm. She has a gorgeous duet with Amy Lee called Break In. It's Lzzy's song, but there is a live studio version with Amy that is incredible.
I saw both in concert TOGETHER. Amazing! I've seen Evanescence 4x, including their 1st tour. I also have every Halestorm album. You need to know that Halestorm is more pure rock bordering on hard rock. Also, Lzzy's voice is very different. Evanescence was half a decade after Nightwish. Maybe check out Within Temptation for the same genre. Amaranthe is unique, blending multiple genres with 3 singers. For female fronted rock bands, I like Halestorm the best. The Pretty Reckless is also good. 💜
To me this has always been a song about someone passing on that has meant the world to you. Even the video with her all in white and never touching the ground seems ghostly. I have seen them live on multiple occasions and her voice is even better in person. For next songs hit the popular ones like Bring me to Life or Call me when your sober
It was released a while ago my daughter introduced me to this group and I'm so grateful. My daughter is no longer with us but every time I hear music Kaitlyn shared with me, my heart is full. Thank you
Her voice is haunting. This song is so relatable to many for many different reasons. Loss of a loved one by death or just the death of a relationship. When she sings, "But though you're still with me, I've been alone all the long" implies a relationship where one person is still holding on while the other is half way out the door.
This isn't a breakup song. The song is about losing someone in this life. If you pay attention to the lyrics, she's talking about someone no longer in this world.
I saw Evanescence live in 2022. I was a huge fan when i was a teen, and it was a full circle moment for me. It was surreal to see her and her piano, just singing this song. all the lighters in the place were up. And she can sing her damn face off, to this day
She wrote the song about her sister who died One good thing about her video is that it can be interpreted anyway that you wish to be and she left it open for that. The actual words and the song was about her sister but if you wished, It could be about anybody you cared for. One thing I want you to think about and watch the video notice that he's walking around and never sees her. She never touches the ground. She's a ghost.
the lyrics were contributed by band member ben moody and they have nothing to do with amy's sister. the song about her sister is called hello, not my immortal. sorry but that's how it is...😉
I know most people hear this and think of a lover or partner who has passed or broken up with them, but I don't have that experience in my life so this song has always immediately thrown me back to the loss of my mother. The chorus has always felt like her words to me, how a parent wipes away your tears, chases away your fears, and holds your hand through the years. And now, even after all this time, I still feel her ghost at my side every time I cook a meal she taught me to make, or see her favorite flower (African Violets) or pull on a piece of clothing she made for me. And it feels like she's still with me, a piece of her always in her heart, and it warms me, but it's painful at the same time. With time, the sting has lessened and I can appreciate the memories, but in the beginning, it was very raw, and there were times when I just wished that if she had to be gone, she could be gone entirely, and take all my memories with her. I think this song truly captures grief. Loss of a serious relationship, through death or separation. And the lyrics are vague enough to capture any number of relationships. Loss of a partner, a parent, a child. The popularity really speaks to how much emotion she carries through to her audience. Great song.
Still struggle to listen to this song to this day. It came out only a couple of days after my fiancé passed away. It’s a beautiful song, and Amy Lee is an incredible singer and writer. Also to my memory, the album didn’t have the “heavy bit” which was only put in for the single.
This is about death not a break up. I believe it was written by the piano player when he lost someone. The emotions for her are so real after losing her sister
I'm not a night wish fan. However I will always show up for some Amy Lee. Her music has gotten me through a lot over the years. Even during times I wasn't going through it. I'm still so captivated by her voice and always get sucked in. Her presence is just so powerful to me, and her music is so deep and raw. I love all types of music. However, for me, the deeper the message, the better. I just love that real, raw ish. I love the art of music period. It's one thing for someone to make music but if you can captivate people like that, you just can not deny the level of skill. Also like you said it's rare to find breakup music like this. Yes, there may be more artists going in this deep about a legit lost love. However, when she came on the scene, there just wasn't at all. I also love how well the band just comes in at just the right time to put perfect emphasis on the emotion being conveyed at that moment. ❤❤
I actually chose this song to dance with my first son that got married. I have 4 sons and we have been through so many struggles together with me as a single mother. But we danced and I cried with happiness for the entire song. Her voice was just amazing and especially wiping away the tears felt right. But please listen to some of her other songs, they are all great.
Felt guilty liking Floor after years of loving Amy. Such a pure voice. She is the ghost. Grieving partner on the piano, wrists bandaged, all of the other hints. Loss as viewed from the other side. A beautiful, sad song by an immaculate vocalist.
They are very good. Bring me to Life is their breakout song and this song is on the same album. The original "My Immortal" is only piano and Amy Lee. This version with the band is a later version with the video. I don't think it was actually included on the original release but came later on the deluxe release. Both are extremely good
I always thought the video version and expecially how the the band guys seem to "rock out hard" when they come in was a bit jarring and against the grain for this song. Might be just me though.
I always loved this song when it came out, but now it’s the closest to my heartbreak after my immortal love died 5 years ago. There’s no getting over that kind of loss. You just have to learn a new way to breathe. 🥺
Oohh.If I'm not mistaken, this is about death of a partner not a breakup. The lyric, Tried to tell myself you're gone, you're still with me but I've been alone all along". I thought this one was gonna get you once you were zoned in.. This is from one of my fave music eras...I was all up in Evanescence, Staind, Hoopastank, 3Doors Down, LinkinPark, Seether... I was in it... Good GOOD MUSIC.. REAL BANDS, NO AI... Broken and Bring Me to Life are her other 2 big songs.
I lost both of my parents when I was young, and this song came out a decade later. It's always resonated with me. This is how I feel about having had to live most of my life without them -- despite the many years, they are the first thing I think about with every new event in my life. They still "have all of me".
Definitely need to dive deeper into more Evanescence. They've been one of my favorite bands since their first album decades ago. Amy Lee is a world class singer. The band has more amazing songs than I could mention. They definitely go harder than this. Thanks for doing this. Shoutout to whoever suggested it. Evanescence is a whole feeling.
This is the great Amy Lee. Her voice is amazing, she is a classically trained vocalist and pianist. Evenessence is kind of Goth Rock I think. I love their music. She is also a solo artist as well. This song is about her sister that died when she was young. You should definitely listen to more Evenessence and her solo stuff.
This has to be one of the most genuine reactions to this song lately. Love your assessments, and I sure hope this is the start of a beautiful evanescence journey. Amy Lee, is an amazing artist who nit only sings, but writes beautiful poetry wrapped in melodies she deliverscwith such an emotional charge, you feel it.. like with no other singer. Add to that her signature harmonies she sings with own main vocal line and beautiful piano playing and her unique beautiful tone/ color of voice and you have music that you simply hold on pedestal for obvious reasons. I would suggest you start from the beginning of their catalog with Going Under, Everybody's Fool, then Lithium, Sweet Sacrifice and Good Ebough... Thank you again for this beautiful refreshing honest reaction. Subbed. Rock on
I’m at least a million of those views. She represents a ghost of somebody who has past on and he can’t let her go is my interpretation of this video. Or, she can’t pass on from the mortal world because if her attachment to him. Amazing vocals. I’ve read she wrote this as a teenager.
If I remember correctly, this song is primarily about Amy’s younger sister’s passing away as a child from an extended illness. They were both pretty young. And yes, she portrays an Angel in the video.
I think its safe to say the song is about loss and grief in general, but it was written by her band mate (the guy in the video) after he lost his grandfather. Amy wrote other songs for her sister, but this isnt one.
This song saved DMCs (from Run DMC) life. I remember hearing an interview where he told a story of being really depressed and hearing this song and it helped him get though. He ended up listening to this song at least once a day
No matter how many times I hear this song it still gets me in my feelings. The singer Pink also has a song called Family portrait. That also gets to me.
This song came out not long after my brother died I was 15 and my family imploded I didn't really have anyone to talk to about how I was feeling so I listened to this album and this song on repeat just trying to process my grief, this song still makes me think of my brother and it still makes me cry.
Her voice is Beautiful. She reminds me of a modern day Siren from Greek Mythology. I get both lost and drawn to her as she sings. I have never heard anyone sing like she does in the five plus Decades that I have been on Earth. You need to check out Bring me to Life by Evanescence.
While many people think this song is about Amy Lee's sister who passed away, it's not. Per Wikipedia: The song's words were originally written by Moody from fiction and the music written by Lee on piano when they were 15, after which Lee added the bridge. The lyrics of the song refer to a spirit that haunts the memory of a grieving loved one, according to MTV. Lee considered it Moody's song as he wrote the lyrics. She contributed "a little bit" to the lyrics, but does not connect with the song as it does not have personal meaning to her. However, She wrote the songs "Hello" from Fallen and "Like You" from The Open Door for her late sister.
I remember the first time a new friend said "you have to hear this album" back when this came out. And I was HOOKED. Half a lifetime ago.....and yet the music can bring me right back to that moment as if it was yesterday. Amy Lee is a brilliant singer and I love her voice so much. This entire album, Fallen, has not a single bad or mediocre song on it. "Bring Me to Life" is the one that had a lot of airplay but I'd also high suggest "Everybody's Fool" and "Going Under" from that album. From the album "The Open Door" I'd suggest "Lithium", "Call Me When You're Sober", "Snow White Queen", and "Lacrymosa". Also, the song "Missing". Amy Lee reminded me a bit of Lennon (Lennon Murphy), a female singer who also ventured into a metal sound but had some fantastically haunting songs as well. I'd suggest "My Beautiful" and "5:30 Saturday Morning" if you're curious about her. I knew of her before I heard Evanescence. Also, others on here have mentioned Lzzy Hale and Halestorm and I cannot agree with that enough. I love some fantastic female vocalists and musicians in the metal genre and feel like there aren't enough of them. :) "I Get Off" is probably the song that was heard the most on the radio by Halestorm. And it's damn good. But they have a TON of other amazing songs and I'm worried I wouldn't be able to list them all. LOL
Amy Lee is a super talented singer/song writer. She is the leading force behind this band. "Going under" is their best song in my opinion. It's also a good showcase of her vocal ability.
Evanescence began in 1996. Same year as Nightwish. But the didnt have their breakthrough untill 2000ish Amy Lee is a generational talent. She is a top 10 singer of our lifetime. Floor, Simone and Sharon are probably the only three who has her beat¨.
This is one of my favourite reactions to one of my favourite songs! This song brings tears to my eyes every time. Your face when the band kicks in is a joy to watch. It’s a heart wrenching song. Loved this video!
A stunning voice with the looks of an angel. She never sold her body/looks to make it (and she could have .. easily). Always beautiful, classy and heartbreaking vocals.
I’m also a fan of Floor. Amy Lee (Evanescence) was my introduction into a classical voice paired with rock. She’s amazing. Check out her song with Lizzie Hale (Halestorm) called “Break In feat. Amy Lee” by Halestorm. It’s some of the best female vocal duets I’ve ever heard - and they are both rock gals. Love it!
I absolutely loved Nightwish through the Tarja and Annette eras, but then ever since Floor came along I feel like the heart of the band has died. Not blaming this on Floor specifically as she's undoubtedly amazingly talented - I just think that Thomas' relationship with Tarja was so instrumental in driving his songwriting through those eras (including the Annette era, where much of the writing was motivated by Tarja's leaving / firing) - I feel like Thoumas has now come to peace with the whole Tarja situation and as a result I feel he's kinda lost a lot of the emotional motivation for his writing. I just feel a lot of his newere songs are less passionate, less interesting, less captivating. I also feel that Floor with her mainstream vocal style (as talented as she is) has dragged nightwish more towards the mainstream and kinda killed the unique character that made them so interesting to begin with. I know this is a controversial take that many will disagree with (as Floor's sound is definitely less unique/quirky then Tarja's, which makes her more appealing to a larger mass of audiences) but it is what it is!
Their latest record , The Bitter Truth (2021) is just awesome. UA-camr should just react to their most recent stuff so people start appreciating this underrated band. Amy’s voice and talent is just pure gold
I listened to her all through high school, and from her, i went to lacuna Coil, then fly leaf and hailstorm man i could keep going but the piont is she really started some of us down that path of music
Evanescence has been around for quite awhile and Ive seen them live with Halestorm and both are absolutely amazing!! Definitely will second the hope that you dive deep into Evanescence amd Lzzy Hale from Halestorm!!
I thought this was about her sister who died. She can’t get over her passing. The “Immortal” is the memory that goes on forever. She would hold her when she was sick and crying.
Saw Evanescence on their most recent tour in Sydney, Australia. I have always loved her voice & the band’s combination of ballad & rock is awesome. Amy Lee’s voice is as great as ever✌🏼
Amy Lees voice has always given me chills. The good kind, her voice is amazing! This is a lover who has passed away. The lyrics she talks about how his presents still lingers. How he’s with her but she’s still alone. It’s heartbreaking to hear it, when you understand it.
I've always interpreted this song as not losing someone to a break-up, but losing someone to death.

Amy Lee is an amazing singer. She is the lead singer for Evanescence. Bring Me To Life is one that you've probably heard. It's the song that put them on the map.
I love her voice. It's so haunting but in a good way.
So haunting...

My soulmate/husband of 25 years passed in his sleep.
I love you Matthew, my immortal 💔
Dammit I'm bawling
A seriously underrated singer. 'Bring me to life' was what first drew me to them.
She has one of the most pure and ethereal voices you may ever hear. She either wrote or cowrote the majority of their songs.
Amy Lee has an amazing voice. Another female singer you should check out is Lzzy Hale from Halestorm. She has a gorgeous duet with Amy Lee called Break In. It's Lzzy's song, but there is a live studio version with Amy that is incredible.
I second checking out Lzzy Hale and Halestorm as well as Lennon (Lennon Murphy) and her songs "My Beautiful" and "5:30 Saturday Morning"
Yes! Lzzy and Amy doing Break In! Amazing how two rocker chicks can collaborate on a beautiful ballad. 🤘🏼🤘🏼❤️
Yes! I love Lzzy’s voice, and the two of them together ❤❤❤
This album was one of those rare ones that every, single song was amazing. Very rare. Legendary.
"My Heart is Broken" and "Call Me When Youre Sober" official mvs by Evanescence are musts.
To me this has always been a song about someone passing on that has meant the world to you. Even the video with her all in white and never touching the ground seems ghostly. I have seen them live on multiple occasions and her voice is even better in person. For next songs hit the popular ones like Bring me to Life or Call me when your sober
Bring Me To Life with Wagakki Band is awesome!
It is the death of a friend/family member... she is an angel in the song. her feet never touch the ground.
This song became clear when I lost my son to suicide...it broke me...i feel every single note and word to this song. I miss him so much 😢
I'm so sorry for your loss.
Notice in the video that she never touches the ground. She's an angel.
Or a ghost who can't move on because the person whom she left alone can't.
It was released a while ago my daughter introduced me to this group and I'm so grateful. My daughter is no longer with us but every time I hear music Kaitlyn shared with me, my heart is full. Thank you
Oh you will love this rabbit hole. You feel her voice❤️🔥
Her voice is haunting. This song is so relatable to many for many different reasons. Loss of a loved one by death or just the death of a relationship. When she sings, "But though you're still with me, I've been alone all the long" implies a relationship where one person is still holding on while the other is half way out the door.
One of the most hauntingly beautiful songs ever
This song gives me chills........ so beautiful
Isn't it amazing how music can bring us together not just divide
I always get goose bumps when I hear this song! Good choice man!
This isn't a breakup song. The song is about losing someone in this life. If you pay attention to the lyrics, she's talking about someone no longer in this world.
My son died in 2008. This song helped me get to my grief. Thank you❤️
Amy lee is an awesome singer
I saw Evanescence live in 2022. I was a huge fan when i was a teen, and it was a full circle moment for me. It was surreal to see her and her piano, just singing this song. all the lighters in the place were up. And she can sing her damn face off, to this day
She wrote the song about her sister who died
One good thing about her video is that it can be interpreted anyway that you wish to be and she left it open for that.
The actual words and the song was about her sister but if you wished, It could be about anybody you cared for.
One thing I want you to think about and watch the video notice that he's walking around and never sees her.
She never touches the ground.
She's a ghost.
the lyrics were contributed by band member ben moody and they have nothing to do with amy's sister. the song about her sister is called hello, not my immortal. sorry but that's how it is...😉
Watch more!!! You will be surprised. The most beautiful woman that walks this earth also !!!!!
I think this is about a loved one dying. She's dressed in white and never touches the ground in the video - possibly representing an angel.
Great song.
My grandmother was that loss for me. Still after 15 yrs, I can't hardly look at a picture of her. Love to you❤
The song is actually about Amy's (the singer) sister who passed away so it makes sense you feel the songs connection to your mum 😊
She was popping early 2000’s
Still struggle to listen to this song to this day. It came out only a couple of days after my fiancé passed away. It’s a beautiful song, and Amy Lee is an incredible singer and writer. Also to my memory, the album didn’t have the “heavy bit” which was only put in for the single.
GOD BLESS YOU SWEETHEART 🙏🙏🙏
This is about death not a break up. I believe it was written by the piano player when he lost someone. The emotions for her are so real after losing her sister
It was actually written by Amy Lee, the singer. She wrote it when her sister died.
Same
Amy Lee's voice is a force of nature. This song is great, but my favorite Evanescence ever put out was Going Under.
This song gives "just a dream"-Carrie Underwood vibes. So hauntingly beautiful makes me cry everytime.
Amy is a gem, and she's just as good in her live performances.
She wrote this song after a loved one died. Hauntingly beautiful....that's Amy Lee!!🎶🎼🎵💜💜🎸🎧🥁🎤🎹🔥🔥🔥🤘🤘🤘
It’s important to note that in live performance she is playing the piano herself and singing at the same time, with that deep emotion in her voice
She has one of the most beautiful voices ever, hands down.
Amy Lee's voice is so hauntingly beautiful. LOVE HER!!
Her voice has a cry in it. Unique and haunting.
I lost both of my parents when I was young, and this song came out a decade later. It's always resonated with me. This is how I feel about having had to live most of my life without them -- despite the many years, they are the first thing I think about with every new event in my life. They still "have all of me".
You should absolutely check out more Evanescence.
Subbed. Rock on
She wrote the song My Immortal after the death of a Sibling.... Beautiful tribute ..
One of my favorite groups
Amy wrote other songs for her sister, but this isnt one.
she's a ghost, she never touches the earth. Most beautiful song.
Bring me to Life by Evenescence is a must!
Evanescence is brilliant!! I could listen to them FOREVER!! Thank you for providing me with so many wonderful memories. A few tragic ones as well.
I don’t think it’s a breakup song. The person has passed. Some say she is representing jt by never touching the ground. Dressed in white as an angel.
It's about losing a child who passed away.
@@brianhodges2382 it's about her sister
This song came out not long after my brother died I was 15 and my family imploded I didn't really have anyone to talk to about how I was feeling so I listened to this album and this song on repeat just trying to process my grief, this song still makes me think of my brother and it still makes me cry.
Just beautiful x
But the didnt have their breakthrough untill 2000ish
Amy Lee is a generational talent.
She never sold her body/looks to make it (and she could have .. easily). Always beautiful, classy and heartbreaking vocals.
her voice is just so haunting that it gives you chills
This track is so beautiful!! And her voice is next level! ! Please do more
I’m also a fan of Floor.
I've always taken this as a "somebody died" song rather than a "break up" song.
She is so beautiful
Evanescence has been around for quite awhile and Ive seen them live with Halestorm and both are absolutely amazing!! Definitely will second the hope that you dive deep into Evanescence amd Lzzy Hale from Halestorm!!
hey, BP...this lady is a believer...there is tremendous depth to her music...death of a child
about 2004 I think this dropped...nu metal wave
Evanescence's first album "Falllen" just celebrated it's 25th anniversary with a rerelease of the album.
This song released just after I lost my best friend in a horrific car wreck. This song embodies every emotion I felt at that time.
She also has one called call me when you're sober. Her voice is beautiful evanescence also has bring me to life that I still jam to
I thought this was about her sister who died.
I have adored this song since I was about 13 and yet, somehow, it hit me deeper this time seeing you react to it! Thank you!
Cry every time I hear .. this and "Bring Me To Life"
Amy Lees voice has always given me chills. The good kind, her voice is amazing! This is a lover who has passed away. The lyrics she talks about how his presents still lingers. How he’s with her but she’s still alone. It’s heartbreaking to hear it, when you understand it.
Amy lee is amazing shes jusy as lovely to listen too as to look at.
