I'm absolutely the kind of person who would normally be annoyed with something like a cursor in the middle of the screen all the time, but if that's pushing you away from the game just know that it was never a problem for me. When you're playing you don't really notice that it's there unless you're using it, and it's probably a lot more obvious when you're just watching footage of the game. Just something to think about.
Arlo I just want to say thank you for all of the videos you have created. Arlo, your personality and persona match perfectly, and you take a grain of salt for every game. Even if it is not your favorite, you find a way to show both pro and cons for all. Arlo, thank you for working very hard and giving it your all for good reviews for people who are considering the game. Nice review video as well! I hope to see more of you and your videos in the future! I wish you the best!

Arlo would you want a Diddy Kong Racing sequel that added characters from My Hero Academia, Little Witch Academia, Kirby, The Amazing World of Gumball, Bomberman, RWBY, Pop Team Epic, Persona 5 and FLCL? Kirby in particular gets pushed heavily as the protagonist
Speaking of those snacks, I called Nintendo customer service and the guy on the line was eating something. He was typing at the computer and said it was national cheese day, so nintendo gave everyone string cheese XD

We all know that in recent years, Toad has been seen as annoying and a nuisance. But you have to admit. He is one of the most darn cute characters to bless our souls.
He's only annoying if hundreds of copies of him are being used as NPCs in the Mario RPGs.

As someone who's never played the Wii U version & only played the Switch version, I gotta say I really enjoyed this game. It's a really fun game that I managed to sinked my teeth into. I'm hoping this game sells more than the Wii U version did & encourages Nintendo to put more DLC stages in this game, especially ones that are based off the Kingdoms in Super Mario Odyssey, because 4 kingdoms is just not enough.
This game released the same day as Octopath Traveler.... it is probably not going to sell too well.
Sales were revealed in Japan and it's the second most selling game for this month right under Octopath. The original sold about 1mil+ so I expect this one to do even better with the bigger player base. Hoping it gets a sequel down the line.

I know people are hating on Wii U ports but if there's one more port I would love to see it would be Xenoblade X. Seeing as how huge the game is it would be great to take on the go to ease the daunting nature of the game by being able to play whenever and wherever. Like I said I know people are acting like Wii U ports are the plague but I would still love it none the less. Make it happen Monolith Soft.

Executer 66, there is something that most people seems to forget when complaining about the loads of ports coming in. The Wii U was a financial failure and is the least sold console in nintendo history according to stats. Games that were on the Wii U didn't got alot of sales. Therefore, it would be wise to port games that people missed out on during the Wii U era so that they still have a chance to play the best games that was on a console they didn't brought.
I never got a Wii U, and for me, Xenoblade X is the only port I really want from it.... and maybe like Mario Maker.... and those HD Zelda remakes look kinda cool.... and I woulda liked some of the Mario RPGs and retro stuff on the system, but other than that, Xenoblade X is all I wanted.

I don't like the fact that there so many ports (not just wii u games) that are on the switch or coming to the switch. I mean a (one year old) new console should have more new games then ports of older games.

It was probably the embargo for the game. Meaning it probably told him when he is allowed to post his review and when he can post gameplay such as gameplay of the new content and the final credits and cut scenes etc.

Probably gonna pick it up myself. The demo was really fun.
This game is so adorable. The animations for these toads are so expressive. They don't talk, but they say a lot. It's not a really difficult game, but I like the variety of levels and it's a nice relaxing game. I like exploring the levels and finding everything. It's a short game, but good all the way through - has really excellent pacing.
I love Toad as a character. He is one of my favorite Mario characters, so I was excited when this was announced on the Wii U.
I had been wanting Toad to get his own game for years, and I'm happy that Nintendo found a unique gameplay style for the character. I wasn't blown away by it, but it was a nice distraction and I will say that it was a unique experience.
You know what would be really cool, though? A Super Mario Galaxy spinoff starring Captain Toad and his crew. They were all such cute characters in the Galaxy games, and I always wanted to see the shenanigans they were up to while Mario was out doing the real work. It would be a cute cartoon series, too.
As you can tell, I love Toad. 😁

I'm not sure if "characters get kidnapped every X levels" is better or worse than "'Your princess is in another castle!' every X levels," but it's definitely more obvious.
I mean, in the latter case, the Toad's were just telling it like it is. Also, the credits didn't roll after each of those seven castles

Between this bird, the lost kingdom one and the luncheon kingdom one I think captain toad is justified in saying don’t trust birds.
Not to mention the Mario 64 birds but there’s a friendly owl so it evens out.

Everyone is saying $40 is a rip off. How? It’s a full very polished game. Yes it is a Wii U port but other Wii U ports were $60. Any lower then $30 than *WE* would be scamming Nintendo

Reused assets from 3D world, reused concept from 3D world, reused music from 3D world, no storywriting at all, lazy cutscenes and really short. It's a fun game but it barely cost anything to develope. Even if this wasn't a port Nintendo would still make a lot of profit with $30, and it is a port so anything higher than $30 is pretty unreasonable if you ask me.
JustDean that didn't stop majora's mask from selling well did it.
And yeah other Wii U ports were $60, but Captain Toad isn't even comparable to games like Hyrule Warriors, DK country or Bayonetta for example, and even those are overpriced according to most people.
JustDean who the hell cares how much profit they make? Consumers should buy products that they deem worthy, not that they can get away with making a company’s job harder.

Let me start off by saying that I love this channel. The thoughtful insights presented in each video are second to none. But.... I would really love to see more of the character of Arlo. Arlo’s screentime is usually limited to small chunks at the beginning and end of each video. The videos mainly consist of his voice. I’d love to learn more about this character and see him interact in different environments.

I also missed out on Captain Toad, but rather than getting the Switch port, I picked up a second hand copy of the Wii U version at a flea market over the weekend.

To all the parents out there, the two-player mode is a great way to introduce young children to platforming. My daughter is six, and is still getting the hang of using a controller. She gets to walk around and solve puzzles, and I can help out and make sure there are no baddies in her way.
And Arlo, if you're still looking for a young child to give that other Toad plushie to, my daughter loves Captain Toad. Hint hint nudge nudge. You're my favorite blue monster. :)
Another problem with the story is that it was supposed to be the prequel to 3D world but they just retconned it so it’s now a prequel to Odyssey. Did 3D world just not happen or something? A nitpick, I know

Not sure if anybody has said it yet, but in 2p mode, the 1st player can actually control the camera as well. You just hold the down button and move the stick for complete control or use the shoulder buttons to rotate horizontally. So yeah, the second player is even less useful after that, and there is even less cooperation required lol.
Love this review though! I agreed with all of your points, although I am thoroughly enjoying the completionist aspects of the game. And some of those time challenges are tough!

Kai Mikoshi As someone who loves 3D platformers and hates puzzle games, I love Captain Toad and hate 3D World.
I mean, if it was 2014 when I expected more from Mario and when Captain Toad did the generic Mario thing I’d agree with it. If 3D World came out today when the generic Mario problem wasn’t an issue, I’d argue slightly. 3D World and Captain Toad are completely different games.
This was one of my favorite titles on the Wii U, but then I was unable to play it anymore because my Wii U gamepad stopped working and I couldn’t afford both a Switch and for my gamepad to be fixed, so I had to choose which to get, and so I just got the Switch instead. But I really missed playing this game, and so I’m so so glad it’s on the Switch now. This was definitely one port that I am happy Nintendo did for Switch! 😄😄😄
This isn't a reused concept from 3D world, one of the designers wanted to make this game but Miyamoto (I think? One of the higher-ups) wasn't convinced that it would make a good game and that people would like it so they let him put a few levels in 3D world as a proof of concept.

1:00 Actually, they had the idea for the full game first; the Captain Toad levels in 3D World were there to see if there was an audience for a Captain Toad game.
I enjoyed this game on 3DS. It has beautiful graphics and music and very fun gameplay.
Why do people keep complaining about the price of some Switch games (mainly ports) when you can usually find good deals to lessen their price, OR just wait until a price drop? And if it’s too much, then just don’t buy it. Things aren’t cheap these days.
Yoshi Miner Kirby Star allies is prime example of this price issue.
With that thought it seems like Nintendo has perfectly made you into a Nintendrone. Wouldn’t you want games, especially year old ports, to be cheaper then new releases? I know I do. Why are Doom and Wolf 2 60 bucks when one of them is over 2 years old and the other is about to be a year old?

Oh this game is so much fun!
It truly feels like a little action puzzle game, it's really adorable. And the side missions can get really challenging, with a lot of creative and diverse missions.
I can't recommend this enough. Especially if you manage to find it for about 30 bucks. Don't hesitate!

I saw this at Best Buy, and I said to my sister, "look who has his own game!" My dad offered to buy it for me for Christmas (we were there picking up Super Mario Party and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe for Christmas). I declined, because I hadn't seen a review or a playthrough yet. Still on the fence on this one, though, but I love Toad and Toadette, and I'm glad to see they have their own game (ok, so technically, Captain Toad isn't the same as the Toad I know and love, but it still counts).
PS: I love your puns. I'm a sucker for a good "bad" pun.
I had this game on the Wii U, but I always thought it was really only fun to play in short bursts, a few levels at a time.

well Arlo if you paid attention to the cutscenes then you'd notice that the bird whose name is Wingo btw dropped Toadette and after a certain amount of levels Wingo finds her again, that's the reason why you can play as her in Episode 3

Man I just got Captain Toad for $4.48! I'm excited to play with my fiancé, really didn't want to buy it when it was $40 and I was happy to see this once in a life time deal come up so I could grab it haha

I 100%-ed this game last weekend and finding all of the gems and completing the challenges really filled out the content for me. I loved this game, but I'm not sure I would have liked it as much if I hadn't taken that extra step to challenge myself, as I feel is true for many Nintendo games. If you only go for the star and an occasional gem you miss out on a lot of the game.
I might buy Captain Toad just because Nintendo gave a cute gift for Arlo

There's 3 gems, an optional objective, a Pixel Toad, but also a speed run objective, with a star to mark completed levels, if I recall correctly.
The moral of Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker is not to eat vegetables.
Think about it - the bird, whatever its name is, was defeated by Captain Toad throwing turnips at it. The bird eats a single turnip, gets really fat and plummets to it’s doom from _above the clouds_ to the ground. Twice. Vegetables have effectively killed this bird.
Or maybe the moral is that turnips will save the people you love, I dunno.
The "Act I/Act II" thing felt like getting to play a whole second campaign of Super Mario 3D Land with Luigi at the end, or like any of the bonus worlds at the end of mario games. I actually expected the game to be super short so I was pretty pleasantly surprised with Captain Toadette being the second half. The fact that there was even a 3rd episode after that was really awesome to me. I can see how it'd seem really annoying/pointless going in fully knowing how many levels the game has left but on the other side I feel like that surprise was probably one of the best parts of the game for me.

This review gives me hope for a Wonderful 101 port on the Switch. A true hidden gem of the Wii U.
i bought it and i love playing it with my sister, i only wish his backpack had something to do with the actual story they just say "it's heavy" ok then give us some cool little tools for toad to use, also the lantern has little use, power ups are almost unexistant, i feel like the levels are so pretty yet you just complete them and get tired of them, sometimes i just want to be mario and jump around them
Arlo has now convinced me that he is a real living puppet after he started grabbing things
