    The best part of the endgame cutscene is when Peach turns both Mario and Bowser down and Mario pats Bowser's back. It was hilarious.

      @Spaceman Alph 100% agree. I loved the bowser mario interaction at the time, but after a replay it dawned on me how awkward it was.
      Plus, this ending confirmed peach as my least favorite nintendo character period🤷.

      @darcidious99 4 роки тому +4

      @Spaceman Alph oh god peach is great in spin off titles😂. Yeah I feel pretty much everything you said. I did enjoy them trying to paint bowser as not being the bad guy, the problem is that the whole game already painted him AS the bad guy. It was just weird and contradictory to everything else. Peach just pissed me off😂. Like I've been going through every kingdom trying to save you, and you're just gonna jack my ship like that?🤣.

      I actually knew to jump down because of the E3 demonstration, and I'm glad I did spoil that for myself because a lot of people seemed to miss it until after they had beaten the game. I knew there was a T-Rex down there and I had to see, but what I didn't know was that it would chase you. I loved it.

      That's actually really unfortunate you spoiled it for yourself because finding it is a thrill. I found it not too long after arriving and the excitement of falling into a new section, rather than death, was something you deprived yourself of. Too bad.

    The trick to beach volleyball 1p is just to stand in the middle and throw the cap in the set direction the ball is going.
    I didn't have much trouble with it but... yeah, it does go too slow and maybe I got lucky.
    I think the only genuine very difficult moon in the game which the average person will struggle or give up on is that one you mention with the scooterless level. That was the hardest challenge in the game imo.

    • @benmidnightflame
      @benmidnightflame 6 років тому +6

      I picked up on that too. That if you basically stand mario in the center and just throw the cap you can do it single player if you can keep up your reflexes and not miss a shot for quite a while. Thing is tho, that moon at least took me 30 minutes, probably 15 attempts, because the beginning goes by so slow you're tempted to smash the ball back at him to speed things up, which usually screws you. It's just badly designed compared to every other moon in terms of tediousness.

    • @benmidnightflame
      @benmidnightflame 6 років тому +7

      The scooterless level on the other hand I would call just the right kind of difficulty that I wish was more present in the game. I'm praying they do hard mode dlc for this game. I was used to doing advanced movements because I continuously tried to improve my koopa racing records, so I did die a few times doing it, but I always seen it as easily attainable straight from the start.

    I think Lake Kingdom and Seaside Kingdom are one of the best water levels in Mario to date. They actually make water levels fun by just doing 2 things
    1.Making moving through water easier (Cheep cheep capture and the new swim move [Zl + Y]
    2. Making the environments absolutely beautiful with tons of color and secrets

    Seriously, HOW is the next 3D Mario going to be after this game. Will Mario travel to different dimensions, explore a new mysterious land, will power-ups return, will lives continue to be gone from the series, will we have a brand new villain, who will be our new companion? Soooo many possibilities

    On your nostalgia comment, I do wonder when Nintendo's going to realize the huge amount of nostalgia people have for the first three Paper Mario games and start catering to that. I said this before, but that ending really does solidify the old-timey nature of the series. Hero, villain, damsel. It's rooted most closely to Popeye, and the way Mario is consoling Bowser at the end really does seem like something out of Popeye cartoon where Olive Oyl has spurned them both. I like it.

    I am so INCREDIBLY grateful that I didn’t watch a single trailer for the game whatsoever! (because originally I thought the idea sounded kind of meh, so I didn’t bother watching the trailer (boy was I wrong haha) ) I barely got spoiled for this game, and I’m so immensely happy I didn’t spoil myself for this game! The game was FANTASTIC going into blindly! A new surprise quite literally around every corner! Always something new to transform into with new abilities! A ton of exciting, yet unfamiliar kingdoms! A crap ton of content hidden around every corner! And the surprise with the Mushroom Kingdom at the end, made me have a nostalgia attack!
    If you didn’t watch the trailers or spoil yourself in any way, then this game just feels so much better due to the amount of surprises!

    I felt my first true video game fear with that dragon. When I first saw it, I wasn't scared of it, I was just very pleasantly surprised. But when I beat it and I saw how big the dragon was compared to the castle... I felt my heart sink down all the way to my stomach. I couldn't stop looking at it. It was _terrifying._

    Music in Wooded Kingdom is supposed be 60’s inspired like what hippies listened to. “Flower Power” and all that. The 8-bit version of this track is my favorite tune in the game by the way.

  • @woraz96
    @woraz96 6 років тому +6

    Since the ending kinda confirmed that everything happened in the same reality I would actually be pleasantly surprised if the next Mario game featured every 3D Mario mechanic that Nintendo introduced to us in the past.
    I don't know if it's too early to release a game that's just called "Super Mario" with F.L.U.D.D, The different Caps from 64 , Mushroom Powerups, the Galaxy mechanics, Cappy, Yoshi etc. but all of these concepts had so much potential that I actually want to see them being used again.
    I know some could see the problem that you actually have to get used to these mechanics for some time to use them effectively and that it's impractical to use too many but I think Nintendo could pull it off to design the game in a way that it's not annoying to learn new mechanics continuously through the game.
    I bet it's also pretty satisfying to learn a new mechanic for a specific mission or world and then be able to pull it off because of that.
    That way Nintendo would also introduce their older games to new players which would get curious and buy them in the virtual console maybe.
    Also I'd love to see real sidemissions in Mario Games. I know some Stars/Shines/Moons are harder and more time consuming to get than others but I'd love to see a Mario game with a "real" main storyline just to know what it could be like..
    Just some foolish thoughts most people wouldn't even like I bet :D

    Wow, we are exact opposites, my least favorite kingdom was the wooded kingdom because i felt it was way too easy and the captures werent very fun, my favorite was definitely the lake kingdom just because the moons were hidden so creatively and i thought it was a great size to not feel too big but not too small because it limits the places you can go.

    Odyssey 2: Fusion captures. Combine a Goomba and a Hammer Bro and your Hammer Bro doesn't slip on ice. Combine a Wiggler and a Chain Chomp and the wiggler has steel armor now! Also Cappy breaking away from Mario for his own little segments by throwing him into these hat shaped holes. And sometimes you need a specific type of hit to fit Cappy into the hole. Also entirely new areas in old Kingdoms like who Steam Gardens is a part of the Wooded Kingdom, we visit say a giant Jungle or even some of those mountains. The returning Kingdoms are Cap and Metro. Cap Kingdom is now all techy and upgraded while New Donk City has a bunch of new areas. Also Donkey Kong is the boss. Then you also have the Odyssey which can now fly around certain areas to collect moons and do airship battles. Finally Donkey Kong comes in and lets you capture him to help in the final boss. That's just some ideas I had though.

    I really feel like the Dragon was a bit of an Easter Egg since Charles Martinet voices the main dragon in Skyrim and of course Mario. That was my first thought when I saw it and also felt like it was out of place in a surprising way but was more intimidating than it was challenging to beat. For me the post game Dark Side of the Moon stuff was a big challenge and the rest of the game felt like a warm summer breeze.

      They're only 880 moons, and 50 of those are acheivements. The rest are just buying more moons which I don't really count as 100% but I still did it anyways

    • @VonFirflirch
      @VonFirflirch 6 років тому

      Yeah, I'm glad I've looked up the 999 reward x)

      +Bat cup The amount of moons in itself was completely unnecessary imo. It could have stopped at 500 easily so that the tedium would be reduced.
      Regardless, I still had an immense amount of fun. It’s a 9.5/10 for me.

    Nostalgia is a tricky thing to pull off, because the problem is that everyone experiences it differently from the rest. For instance, I was blown away seeing the Mario 64 stuff, but I was equally as enthralled with the movie theater in Metro Kingdom that featured a level from the first Super Mario Bros. Complete with the proper resolution and everything! In fact the entire New Donk City Festival almost brought a tear to me eye the first time I experienced it because of how it encompassed so much of Donkey Kong into it's design.
    And that didn't come from having grown up on those games persay. Heck I didn't get an NES until I was 15 or 16. But it's just comes from either trying out a game or reading about it, and seeing it referenced in something new. I love seeing little nuggets and easter eggs like that in my games, even if they're not from something I've played in the past. Like seeing characters of digimon data squad/savers show up in digimon world DS, even though I didn't watch Data Squad/Savers as a kid. Or seeing Silver Sonic show up in Sonic Mania even though I never played Sonic The Hedgehog 2 (Game Gear) enough to see him. Or seeing Felicia in the background of Super Street Fighter II, even though I never plated Darkstalkers.
    Granted I'm a different kind of nerd when it comes to this stuff. I'm more of a historian when it comes to games, and I love researching the heck out of different ones. I love just diving into the past and peering into the world as it was and seeing how it shaped into the world it is now. Which is why I love seeing these nuggets, no matter the era. I would've loved to have seen a reference to Super Mario Land (outside of the space suit), or a little reference to Super Mario World sprinkled here or there (there actually might be a few in the game I missed. It's so vast and I've only just begun to scratch the surface on this game). Hopefully this trend will lead to more series wide references in Mario Titles to come, rather than just sticking to referencing just Mario 64 or just Super Mario Bros.

    • @Stathio
      @Stathio 6 років тому +1

      I'm really similar! When Galaxy was first announced, I was REALLY hoping that Tatanga, the evil alien main villain from Super Mario Land would be the main villain of that game! that would have blown my mind completely from sheer happiness! Heck, finally bringing Pauline back for a role in a main series Mario game felt great to me! (I know she was in a Mario Vs Donkey Kong sequel, and that in itself was cool, but it's not a mainline game and I'm not even that interested in that series... unless you count Donkey Kong for the original Game Boy! That game was fantastic!)

    I liked the Bowser Kingdom most. It was the most surprising of all. And it had such a good music, especially after you fought the last two Broodals the second time.
    It's not like the Bowser amusement park city level in Super Mario 3D World, because there was a normal Bowser Fortress anyway before and also matched the theme of the game. This japanese Bowser fortress just replaced the default fortress. And the real end level, which matched the theme of the game, was the moon.

      This level is called "Acceptance" because Ash (the main character of The End Is Nigh) accepted his upcoming death (throughout the second half of the game the levels are named about sad fellings you encounter when you reach the end of your life, Anguish, Gloom, Blight, Ruin and finally the Acceptance (and after completing Acceptance, Ash dies and the last level of the game is called NeverMore, pretty explicit)

    I adore the Mario Odyssey ending sequence. When that last music track ended so perfectly with Mario throwing cappy at the screen, and then that epic orchestra credits music started....I got shivers. That is my favorite ending to any game. I just love it! My fave track in the game is that "Honeylune Ridge: Escape". When that song came on, my stamp of "cool" was slapped onto Mario's latest triumph of a game. It became more than Mario at that moment. I was shocked! I played the game with that song in the background for like a hour. Seriously.

    I introduced NES games, then SNES games and N64 games to my now 6 year old son over the past 2 years before buying him a newer console (in this case the Switch). And listening to you saying you didn't get the nostalgia factor until you saw N64 Peach castel... I realized what I have done... I gave a chance to my son to have 20 years of gaming evolution in 2 years so that he does have some reference when he sees 2D Mario in Odyssey (or Mario Hat as he calls it). BTW my first console was an NES... so yeah, I will get every bit of nostalgia that Nintendo puts in there. I even got nostalgic playing the latest Zelda that is getting so much of the core from that first few Zelda games on NES & SNES...

    My experience with Odyssey is a bit of an unusual one. I was the back seat 'gamer' who just watched my mom play it (yes I am a 23 year old living with her mother still). She had... a lot of trouble with it, and then when she had enough she would demand that I beat the area for her. So, I have yet to complete the game 100% or even go through it properly. Most of my experience with Odyssey is with the boss battles and the occasional platforming challenge, but what I quickly came to learn was that Mario Odyssey isn't HARD per say, it just challenges you in the absolute literal sense. It challenges your patience. If you're impatient and just try to sprint through everything first time and keep doing that over and over again, you're not going to have too much fun. But if you take the time to just wait, pace yourself, and be observant you really won't have too much of an issue. For example, something that I noticed right away that my mother didn't notice is the fact that your shadow is always below you. Not exceptionally realistic, but oh my gosh does this help a lot when platforming or fighting bosses. Especially since I'm someone who has a lot of trouble perceiving depth, that extra detail made the game so much more enjoyable for me than a lot of other platformers.

    The Wooded Kingdom is the best. Adore that place, sometimes I just spend a couple hours messing around there just because It's so cool. Something I noticed is that each of the 3D Mario games somehow pertain to the classics- This may be a long comment--
    64: Relates to SMB, because it's a beginning and a gameplay revolution
    Sunshine: Relates to SMB2, staggering difficulty and an unusual setting for a Mario game with all of the weird quirks
    Galaxy: SMB3, took all things good of 64/SMB, and captilized on it, as well as giving its own gameplay twists
    Galaxy 2: SMW: Difficulty spike, emphasis on level design. Yoshi. Even some music from SMW
    Odyssey: 64
    Next game, hopefully pertains to Sunshine???
