My 2005 TJ was diagnosed with the dreaded bad factory PCM/TCM a few weeks ago. Like many '05 and '06 Wrangler owners have and eventually will discover, Chrysler has essentially washed their hands of these defective computer modules abandoning their Jeep customers. Shame on Fiat Chrysler Automobiles Group! That was the bad news for me and my Jeep. The good news is that after much Internet research I discovered WranglerFix via the Ozzstar Channel on UA-cam. Long story short, I bought a newly manufactured PCM/TCM from WranglerFix and installed in my TJ just today - in about five minutes - thanks to Ozzstar's excellent how-to video. After a 20 mile test drive, my 2005 Wrangler seems to be back to her old reliable self. The transmission shifts are silky smooth and she accelerates with a lot more authority from both a standing start and onto the Interstate. Success! Thanks Mark Cantrell and Ozzstar. Mark, you have a happy customer and Ozzstar, you have a happy new subscriber.
Hands down Wrangler Fix is THE best company to work with when it comes to getting a new pcm. Had the hard shift from 1st to 2nd in my 2006, the new pcm instantly fixed it. Would 10/10 always recommend them for any of your pcm needs!
I had the issue with my trans hard shifting from 1st to 2nd when cold. I took it to my mechanic and he suggested a trans shop since it was reading an error with the transmission. I took it to the trans shop and the guy quoted me $1600 to rebuild the trans and an additional $800 to replace the PCM. I'm glad I saw this video and contacted Mark at Wrangler Fix! I swapped out the PCM on my own and the problems are gone!! Going on 3 weeks now and the TJ is running like a champ.
Proper diagnostics saves everyone time and also a lot of frustration and headache. Glad you saved a boat load of money and got your Jeep fixed correctly! -Glen

I got a pcm for my '05 TJ Rocky Mtn and the 4 - O2 sensor codes went away and ran well until I ran the ac on a hot day. The new pcm didn't allow the ac compressor to shut off to cool down causing it to seize. I just got a replacement pcm from the same company and they said it's vin coded. Hi Glen, nice video....couple of quick questions....I have 2006 Wrangler Sport, Automatic, with P1775, P0740 and P0218. Mark seems confident that this PCM/TCM(is it both?) would fix these codes. I am concerned that my codes are different than yours....what do you think?
I suggest you test and not guess or have someone that knows how to properly diagnose the issue. Have you seen the other playlist videos I have on this particular Jeep? It may help give you some direction. I can tell you that Wranglerfix.com was the solution to the problem in this case. Over 2 years now and the TJ is still working great.
Nice Video BTW, Say My 2005 is having sim problems, check engine came on before I even put it in gear, and went into Limp mode ( what a Pain). made a stop on the way home turned rig off and after leaving to continue home seemed to shift like normal again, I am throwing a bunch of codes none like you posted other than p0700, and the others seemed to relate to PCM issues. So do you recommend me to try this, almost seems like a good Idea. Thanks again for the video, very, helpful info!
What other codes were you running? I have an 05 and am getting both the P0700 and P0765 code. Battery died on me the one day and ever since been running these codes and been in limp mode.
Hey thanks for the video. I'm trouble shooting my wife's jeep. Code came up P0131 and PCM. The gas gauge stopped working as well and the next day the car shut down while driving. Is this what you experienced? at first i thought it was the sending unit because I'd get crack but no start. Ill have to start back probing wires i suppose. Just curious what you went through.
Have a new problem with the '05 TJ Rocky Mtn. Getting codes P0700 and P0733 which is the TCM. These codes have popped up twice when the road was out and I had to quickly do a k-turn and the other when I was off road, but this time, no codes but the same symptoms. The k-turn was consistent in that each time I was backing up into a descending driveway and trying to get out asap because of oncoming traffic, maybe trans rev limiting, but not sure of this. And until I can get to an area to pull over, the trans went into limp mode, slipping badly. But each time I pulled over, turned off the engine while clearing it with the scanner. I've been very fortunate to have it run well after clearing the code, and driving like it did before it occurred. Now I can't go off roading until I get this fixed! Any thoughts? 🤔
Like I always say ... a friend with a Chrysler product means you'll ALWAYS be working! 😁 Great that company builds PCMs for those. Good thing Jeeps are popular. When the ECU takes a dump on our '86 Grand Marquis, I'll be converting to HEI and Edelbrock. 😉 Not very much aftermarket support for that ride. Good thing they built stuff worth a damn in '86 - 33 years, 250k miles, and I'm still on the original OE fuel pump! I won't hold my breath for an ECU failure. 😊 Good stuff, Glen! 👍👍 🍻
Is this replacement still working out well for you? My 06 TJ with 96,000 miles just started doing this where it lagged from 1 to 2nd with a hard shift. Already did the disconnect battery as a bandaid fix, but like the Death Wobble I figure it will come back.
@@ozzstars_cars That's good to hear. I'm currently reading people's horror stories on this issue. It's my only vehicle so I'm a bit worried after having her for thirteen years. Wranglerfix's website is down for changes. Still possible to reach out to Mark via the link in your pinned comment?
Great video.I have a 2004 Jeep Liberty limited with the 3.7L.I am having the same problem to the T.I’ll be driving and out of nowhere when it shifts it like slams into gear and a few seconds later the check engine light comes on and whatever gear it slams into or bangs into it will stay on that gear till I reset the computer or use the code reader to clear the codes.P0700,P0613.And after I reset it I can go weeks and it be ok or sometimes it’s a few days.Very random.I was told change the PCM,TCM.Then I was told change the transmission speed sensors.I don’t want to go on a wild goose chase and change 20 things out. This is so frustrating. The new PCM,TCM you got from florida is it plug and go?Or has to be programmed?I know some places you give your vin and they will program it before they send it to you.🤞 hope I can’t find what the problem is.I’m in NY and winter is here don’t need to have this happen when I’m driving in a snow storm.any advice would be great.
The PCM's from Wranglerfix.com are plug and play, you provide the necessary VIN number. The contact information is posted above. You may want to to watch the diagnostic videos in the playlist on the Jeep Wrangler PCM/TCM issue. ua-cam.com/play/PLU66_SU1oEULFTHJnLLYzS5a8-FxBJzSn.html Always test and don't guess or find a qualified technician that can trace the problem for you. This saves lots of time, aggravation and money in the long run. I assume you have checked for proper fluid level when hot and have done a visual inspection on the pcm/tcm wiring and connectors and of course checked for proper powers and grounds using a wiring diagram?
I haven’t tried anything yet.today is the first day that I’m gona try a few things like you said.I seen the first video and how you did the bulb. And the more I look online people tell you all different things and they all seem so fast to just start replacing parts and hope they replace the right one.I know I don’t have money to just throw at all different things. So I’m gona try the pins like you did check the ground.see the wires if there are any cuts or scrapes.Hope to find something. Thanks for the ideas.great videos you made love how you do step by step.👍
Thank you for sharing different ideas.I’m sure you know from your friend that this is such a weird thing. It’s the randomness of it that gets me.But yesterday as I was telling you I took my Jeep out and it happend again which isn’t a shock. But this time instead of just clearing the codes as I normally do.This time I pulled over and popped the hood and disconnected the negative battery terminal and let it sit a few minutes Nd put it back on.I also went through the wires separating them looking for one with a slice or bare wire sticking out.just a really quick look cause it was Brrrr here in NY.But here is what I’m getting at with all this rambling.after I got back in and started it the problem now wale the go away at all.If I cleared the code as soon as I started it back up instantly the check engine like come on.and I did this for about 10-15 minutes.so I’m thinking and hope there is a loose wire or a slice.Cause after I moved them around Looking like I said I now can’t even clear the code.Wanted to see what your thoughts were on it.I hope I got lucky and that’s what it is.Thanks again for your input and ideas.Cause I’m going 😜 with this.Either way I’m gona go through it today and see.Another question I have as you know there are the 4 big clips which normally are color coded and of course mine aren’t.Do you know by chance which clip is for the TCM?It’s a 2003 Liberty limited.(Rocky Mountain Edition).Thank you
@@MrProline727 a good detailed wiring diagram would be helpful to you. Wires can corrode or break inside the insulation and there is no visible damage. Testing and not guessing is the key.
@@ozzstars_cars I was thinking the same thing.I’m sure there has to be one online I can find and print out.I believe in your first video you had one to determine what pins to check in the plug.
If I get a pcm for my jeep grand Cherokee ( same codes same symptoms ) do I need to take it somewhere to get flashed ? Or can I buy one at say a auto wrecker.
05-06 has a known wiring issue, the O2 sensor heater circuit monitor will never set no matter what and that monitor has a special exemption in those year Jeeps, not because "you can have one monitor not set". Rather, you often can have one monitor not set state depending but in a 05-06 the 02 heater monitor doesn't count towards that, and even if you're required to have all the monitors set you're still fine.
It's always a privilege to own a vehicle with special exemptions. I knew Jeeps were cool! haha You must be referring to TSB #25-001-07 which involves rewiring the fuel pump relay and Auto Shut Down system? That usually will correct the O2 heater monitor not setting issue. Yes on an 2006 vehicle in Delaware "you can have one monitor not set" and the O2 heater "not ready" certainly does count as one monitor. If there are two monitors NOT READY then it's an emissions inspection fail. Of course UNSUPPORTED monitors don't count. Thanks for watching the video.
@@ozzstars_cars interesting, so in California the 02 sensor heater doesn't count, they treat it as if it's not supported even though it says incomplete.
I've watched this video several times. I have an 04 Rubicon, 4.0 automatic. 150k miles. I have a separate TCM and PCM. Always shifted fine but limp mode was intermittent until it finally just stuck.(Ive never been off road ing lol) I checked fluids, disconnected the battery cables 24 hrs. No change. P1698. Do you recommend I just try a refurb TCM or both? It's frustrating. This is my daily commuter. I don't know what else it could be and dealerships are evil. Thanks for your video! Gives me some hope.

I'm on my 2nd $1500 pcm in my 06 LJ. My original never threw any codes just had the horrible 1st to 2nd shifts. My temperature range sensor showed 300 degrees then 0 degrees then -3 degrees, all in about 15 seconds... I got my remanufactured pcm's from Chrysler because the online companies just restructured every few years to get away from bad BBB reviews and warranty claims.

Thanks bro
Nice Video BTW, Say My 2005 is having sim problems, check engine came on before I even put it in gear, and went into Limp mode ( what a Pain). made a stop on the way home turned rig off and after leaving to continue home seemed to shift like normal again, I am throwing a bunch of codes none like you posted other than p0700, and the others seemed to relate to PCM issues. So do you recommend me to try this, almost seems like a good Idea.
Thanks again for the video, very, helpful info!
What are the other codes your Jeep has Steve?
What other codes were you running? I have an 05 and am getting both the P0700 and P0765 code. Battery died on me the one day and ever since been running these codes and been in limp mode.
Thanks for showing this pcm fix
Hey thanks for the video. I'm trouble shooting my wife's jeep. Code came up P0131 and PCM. The gas gauge stopped working as well and the next day the car shut down while driving. Is this what you experienced? at first i thought it was the sending unit because I'd get crack but no start. Ill have to start back probing wires i suppose. Just curious what you went through.
In the description above are other TJ videos regarding the TCM shifting issue P0700.
Check out my other videos on testing the PCM/TCM for the Jeep TJ. Start by checking for proper powers and grounds, no dropouts.
@@ozzstars_cars Got this pcm from Wrangler Fix over a year ago, so I contacted Mark already about it. In the meantime, I'll take your advice. Thx
Absolute lifesaver!
WranglerFix for the win! I spoke to the Jeep owner yesterday, two years now and the PCM is still working great!
Like I always say ... a friend with a Chrysler product means you'll ALWAYS be working! 😁
Great that company builds PCMs for those. 😊
Good stuff, Glen! 👍👍 🍻
Yeah technology keeps advancing. The OBD1 stuff is almost a distant memory. Thanks Smitty and keep ya cahhhh running good!
@@ozzstars_cars 😁😁
Result Glen !!! Don’t forget the shades next time 😜👍👍👍
Gotta look cool 😎
Nice fix Glen. Thanks for sharing! 👍
Thanks Dylan, appreciate you taking the time to watch and comment.
Is this replacement still working out well for you? My 06 TJ with 96,000 miles just started doing this where it lagged from 1 to 2nd with a hard shift. Already did the disconnect battery as a bandaid fix, but like the Death Wobble I figure it will come back.
The owner reports the Jeep is running and shifting well.
@@Sandblstr yes, co tact him directly.
What did you do for your death wobble? I have an 09 that gets it pretty bad. It also won’t shift out of first gear. I’m thinking it’s the TCM/PCM.
great video. good personality. all around good content. keep it up man
Great video.I have a 2004 Jeep Liberty limited with the 3.7L.I am having the same problem to the T.I’ll be driving and out of nowhere when it shifts it like slams into gear and a few seconds later the check engine light comes on and whatever gear it slams into or bangs into it will stay on that gear till I reset the computer or use the code reader to clear the codes.P0700,P0613.And after I reset it I can go weeks and it be ok or sometimes it’s a few days.Very random.I was told change the PCM,TCM.Then I was told change the transmission speed sensors.I don’t want to go on a wild goose chase and change 20 things out.
You may want to to watch the diagnostic videos in the playlist on the Jeep Wrangler PCM/TCM issue. ua-cam.com/play/PLU66_SU1oEULFTHJnLLYzS5a8-FxBJzSn.html
Always test and don't guess or find a qualified technician that can trace the problem for you.
Wranglerfix.com is what you need. Tell'em Ozzstar sent ya. Happy Jeep'in!
@@ozzstars_cars They dont do anything for jeep grand Cherokee ! Thanks for the response.
I bought a new ecm but I still get code P0700 so I need help for 2005 jeep grand cherokee 4.7L V8
Where did you buy the PCM from and did you diagnose the issue before replacing the computer?
Is the issue still resolved? Or did it return?
Three years later working great. 💯
The issue should be properly diagnosed before any parts are changed. In the description are other vids to check TCM function.
Nice repair in lower slower! Did you do the jeep wave on the test drive?
It's not that slow anymore, more like lower crowded. haha Oh yeah waving to them all. ;-)
So,don't disconnect the battery?
I didn't.
Nice! now I've got to watch the diagnosis, don't know how i missed that one. But I'm going to check it out now. Did you ever go to Howard career and have Mr Greco? Thumbs up on the video!
No I never went to auto tech school, self taught. Thanks for the thumps 👍 -Glen
Good job Glen! Nice looking jeep! 👍☺️
Thanks
step on that gas those engines are gutless as frig, didn't you have to program the vin and mileage ?
Mileage is held in the gauge cluster module, PCM comes preprogrammed with the VIN.
Hello I have same problem with my 2006 Jeep Wrangler automatic transmission
Did you contact Wranglerfix.com?
@@ozzstars_cars no i have not because my transmission is shifting good only the check engine on, sometimes I hear metal nooking, but am in California
@@ozzstars_cars hi I have the same thing with my jeep where are you located?
I'm on my 2nd $1500 pcm in my 06 LJ. My original never threw any codes just had the horrible 1st to 2nd shifts. My temperature range sensor showed 300 degrees then 0 degrees then -3 degrees, all in about 15 seconds... I got my remanufactured pcm's from Chrysler because the online companies just restructured every few years to get away from bad BBB reviews and warranty claims.
Now that Chrysler PCM's are no longer available it's really good to know there is a solid resource like Wrangler Fix.
Jimmy Faceshooter Are you still having the hard shift issue?
@@wranglerfix nope. So far so good
No programming?
Nope. Plug and play ready to roll 👍

Is that the pcm and tcm in one
Sure is. 2005-06 TJ
I thought so finally got it to throw a code I have a shift solenoid bad and easy fix 💪
Mine wouldn't come out of first and I know the transmission wasn't bad but thanks for replying back
My code is p0882. Won’t shift out of first gear. And keeps blowing a fuse. Any suggestions?
Alot of times You can clean the PCM and that will do the trick but even better to replace because like all electronic components they fail at some point from heat!
Did you happen to see the video where I opened the '06 Wrangler PCM case? There was nothing to clean.
i have p1603 and p0700 codes showing up on my 05’ 4.7l grand cherokee got a brand new pre programmed pcm coming in i hope that fixes the codes it really sucks not having my girl with me

do you think a pcm swap would do the trick given the codes i’m throwing?

Well done, Glen. I'm thinking it had something to do with the shirt. 😁
Haha thanks, it had to be the shirt. 👍
Had a 2005 Rubicon....bought used in Flagstaff, Arizona in 2013....beautiful Jeep....in 2018 the TCM went out....spent a hell of a lot of time, including leaving it at the local Chrysler-Dodge dealership. After more than two months in the shop, the dealers owner called me and gave me $10,000 for a Jeep they could not fix....put that money on a Tacoma........no more American made for me.
It's a shame that Chrsyler has so many electrical issues. Toyotas have there issues as well but overall have better build quality.
FYI, if the dealership or you had seen this video sooner that Rubicon would probably be fixed. 😉
@@ozzstars_cars I agree
@@ozzstars_cars I gutted the electrical diffs, added Detroits in the front and rear, lift, winch, bumpers, etc. I 4wheel near Glamis, California....sand buggy capital of Southern Caifornia....I added lots of extras because a breakdown in my desert is not a good thing......had to walk away from it all for $10,000 ...have a nice day.
I wish we had 2 year registration.
On new cars bought from the dealership it's now 7 years registration in Delaware. $40/year.
60k miles that thing needed a PCM???????
It needed a new pcm since 40k miles, the owner just ignored the issue until it got so bad there was no choice.
OMG 0.08 I had to turn off I have to unsubscribe what have you got on I use them for my shop rags
LOL Dan rag. 🤣
Glen it seem Chrysler gets hammered for poor electronics on youtube . Are they as bad as the channels show :) It passed 👍
Yeah, they are junk. 😝
i hear a lot about bad online pcms and nice off board programed too must drive like crap with that lift kit
It was nice to use a PCM that worked right the first time. Actually rides not bad for a lifted Jeep but I wouldn't want to drive it as a daily.
