Thanks for checking out the video and let me know if your Jeep has been having this issue.
Nice job. Glen and you couldn't have asked for an opinion from anyone better than Keith.
Thanks a lot man. Good to see you dropping in. Keith is the man with the plan!
Nice one Glen, loving the shirt! Nice job not just throwing a PCM at it. Looking forward to seeing what comes of this. -Mike
I told my dry cleaner to make sure to take extra care when handling my Wells tshirt! We'll see whats happens with the Jeep diagnosis
Mr ozstar1. I cant thank you enough , your info on this pcm was priceless for me ive been searching for help and answers and you have giving me the knowledge to do so , i got my confidence back ive got my check engine light off , and jeep back runinning awsome . And i got my girl back . Thank you brother. Keep up the videos . I owe you a cpl cold ones .

Bakersfield ca,
Thanks Jerry 🍻 Glad to help.👍
Great advice! Try to isolate the problem before throwing parts at it. That bulb trick is sweet. 👍
THe bulb deal is old fashioned genius!
I have the same issue with a hard shift from 1st to 2nd but without the engine light coming on. I only have this issue in the summer when it get very hot. No problem in the winter. Install a muffin fan blowing on the TCM, problem solved. Worth a try
Good diagnoses and Keith is a very good resource to go to! Can't wait to see what actually was ailing it.
Yes he is Mike and also an expert in yoga pants design.
Glen, you are the man! Subscribed and so thankful for you responding to my question on BS corner happy hour yesterday...I had honestly given up on fixing my Jeep almost 3 years ago and bought another car back in 2018.
Thanks for subscribing and glad you mentioned your issue in Jerry's stream. 👍
good luck with finding the problem. I'm sure Keith has helped you nail it. Cheers
Further testing will tell, good stuff!
Hey Glen! Yeah you could have an internal TCM fault or it could be one of the B+ or ignition voltages dropping out. Using a few bulbs on those lines will definitely let you know if you have a supply voltage issue. I am quite sure that you will get to the root cause of the problem👍👍
I'm pretty sure its going to be a PCM swap out but time will tell after more testing. The '06 Wranglers seem to have this expensive repair issue way after the warranty has run out, go figure. Hope all is well Terry
Ozzstar Everything good here Glen. You know how it is; everything wants to break down at one time. Hope all is well with you and the family! 😀
Keith sent me here ;)
Btw that bulb idea is brilliant. Nice video Glen, take care.
Thanks Moving for stopping by, appreciate you taking the time to watch and comment!
Hope you find the problem, looking forward to follow up video!
Good idea with the light bulb. I have seen those PCM's take a dive and unable to tell you.
They are tricky little suckers at times!
Thank you. I'm troubleshooting the exact same issue on a 06 Wrangler TJ Unlimited or LJ. Looking forward to see what you found.
Hoping to have some more data soon! Stay tuned
Ozzstar any update?
I have an 06 LJ rubicon thats giving me different codes but all are transmission related
Nice one. If it's a common failure and symptoms are the same I guess putting another ECM in would be logical. And if there's a bad connection towards the trany that's causing it to drop out as well , now a new ECM won't help . Wow it's not easy to figure out. Look forward to the findings.
With the issue only occurring once in a while it can be tricky!
Mine is consistant - i've dont the hard reset twice and it comes back within seconds. Any thoughts?
this is where a power probe would come in handy, no screwing around
It's the 12 volt machine gun of all tools!!
Put the PCM in the freezer for about 8 hours...Worked for me on a BMW...It does something to the processors...Been 9 months with no issues.
That almost sounds too good to be true! This past winter we had plenty of long frozen cold days......mother nature won't fix this one :-( Thanks for watching ZIG
A few years back, I could have run to the local salvage yard for a replacment TCM and played swaptronics. Now, in Westchester County NY, we dont even have salvage yards anymore. Have to use internet or ebay and have a used part sent in. Good luck with the light bulb as a watch dog.
Thanks Mike, I will post a TCM update when I have more info. Environmental regulations and the cost of doing business legally have increased making it harder and harder on the little man to keep the doors open. I used to enjoy walking through junkyards when I would get the chance. Today they are called 'salvage' yards, go figure.
Great video. Also, WD 40 was designed for the aerospace industry.
Yo Glen, nice vid, pretty cut and dry with those codes as long as you are not loosing power or ground. Oh fix your title ;) 1603 not 1605....
Hey Eric thanks for the title typo heads up. i must have got dyslexia from the Jeep fumes! Now where did I leave those directions to the mall to get my blower working?? Man, those fumes are getting to me haha
Don't listen to a word that Keith says. That guy doesn't know Jack. He'd like to meet Jack one day though.
Jack is your biggest fan!! He's the guy that totally gets where your coming from! lol Thanks again for the help and advice Keith. And ohh, you made FIRST comment well maybe not but I bet Jack would be proud if you did :) Take care -Glen
New Level Auto haha 😂 funny guy you are!
Nice! ugh man its hard to make the call right, how nice would it be if the PCM would have failed completely by now but nope will most likely keep being a nascence. good advice monitoring the power and ground, you know whats next
It's got to be 100% proof positive before changing out a part that costs $900 and takes 2 minutes to replace. The pressure is on to confirm this one, fun stuff! Thanks for commenting and watching, take care.
100% agree. 👍
Any fix on this? I have the same issue on my 06 Wrangler. The only thing is it doesn’t run any codes. It happens occasionally on a cold start and he first shift from first to second is a rough shift. Reset the computer and it works fine for a while. It just throws me off because I never get a darn code.
Interesting that there is no code being set, hmmmm?
Same issue here, hard shift but no Check Engine Light....
Lovely content! Keep it up!
Thank you for taking the time to watch and comment MisterB!
Intermittents are a pain... especially when they are not frequent enough. =(
You got that right! Thanks for watching
Hey Glen, I did a quick search for this codes and you popped up. Thanks for the power and ground tips.
I have the same issue with one but this one is a repeat offender of pcms. Its on its second one in 4 years. I even remove the harness for inspection last year when we has transmission fluid temp codes. The transmission had to be replaced one because it was driven too long not shifting properly. These PCMs are practically non-existent and the bad thing is the one I have installed is from the dealer and still has warranty but they cant get me one.
Did you see the PCM replacement video I posted a couple of months ago on this Jeep? Works great now!
Ozzstar I didn’t see it yet I will go find it. The dealer is now saying they won’t/can’t warranty the unit because it’s no longer available. So much for a 1 yr warranty. Thanks for the reply.
@@ThePracticalMechanic get your money back then, that's bs if they can't fix it under warranty. Here is the fix I did. ua-cam.com/video/KWK2LiqUk4I/v-deo.html
good advice, cheers
Thanks!
man same thing happened to my 05, research on my end says chrysler stopped making pcm for 05 wranglers, bs but only other way to go is refurb
It's going to be a hard one to find. Major defect.
Where are you located ! I will bring one more for you
Delaware
I might have missed it but which web site did you use to get those pin outs? I just recently subscribed to Alldata. Nice tip on no way to mess up reconnecting the connectors. Keith has been a great help to me too. The guy doesn't sleep! See you soon.
I don't remember the exact site but it was not a pay site. I got original and googles it! lol Keith is the man. Take care Dave
"Makes me feel warm & fuzzy inside" made me laugh.
Haha! Thanks for watching and commenting!
Well after spending $450 at a transmission shop. And $950 at the dealership.... my jeep is now doing this same thing 🙄I took it back to the dealership for them to ride with me and see what I was talking about on cold mornings it would drop out of gear and not move for a couple seconds before kicking back in. They basically said $350 more dollar to get in deeper for diagnosis. 😡Before it was stuck in limp mode and $1,400 later I'm positive this is my issue. Did you replace the TCM? Anyone know where I could send it off to be fixed?
The Jeep is currently being test driven with a wiring diagnostic harness that I custom made using a test light. As soon as I get more data when the issue reoccurs I will be posting the second part of this video. It will have details of the diagnostics and repair results. It's really a shame Alyssa that you are having to spend a lot of money and not getting correct results. I like to make the correct call the first time, not just throwing parts at it. Good luck
@vitabella139 the link is posted in the description above. ua-cam.com/video/PbUqhvXu7N8/v-deo.html
Good video Glen ! Nice Jeep
Thanks Norm, people love the Just Empty Every Pocket, JEEP!
I found your video here and i installed a rebuilt transmission in my wife's 2004 jeep liberty and i was following the video checking the pcm tcm checking with my multimeter and i got the same reading that you was saying you should get except pin 18 ground im not getting any kind of reading since its a ground connection would o be able to splice a new grounded wire to that pin on the plug that for the tcm slot?
Gamez Xtrem a ground is a ground. First find out why that ground wire is open and look at a wiring diagram. Repair it if you can. If the break is not accessible then you could bypass it.
Ozzstar thanks man 👍😁
Gamez Xtrem your welcome.
my wife's jeep has been a painful pain in the A55 fix one thing another thing takes a poop and so on and so on so I just wanted to make sure there wasn't some device that if I bypassed the broken ground with my own wire that a comet wouldn't hit the earth.
Gamez Xtrem that's why you have to make sure that ground wire is not used for any other circuits before 'making your own' ground. The issue this Jeep is having has caused many people to replace the trans unnecessarily which is not the proper diagnosis.
Hey, I’m having hard shift 1st to 2nd. I’m also getting P0700 and P0731 codes. I replaced the TCM/PCM and trans rpm input and output sensors. Im still getting hard shift and the codes with a check engine light. Could changing the solenoid pack and ATF and filter be a good idea?
What brand of PCM did you use and what vehicle is it?
I noticed you’re still replying to comments, so here’s to hope you reply to mine. I have an 05 tj with p700 u0101 p1603 p1775. Not trying to throw a TCM at it without testing but can’t afford to take it to get it tested at a shop. Any advice? CEL comes off when I unplugged the TCM plugs and replugged them. Comes back on quite fast. Within 2 days.
The most important thing is to check powers and ground at the TCM. Monitor to make sure there is no loss, for example a damaged wire/connection. If there is no intermittent or extra resistence then most likely it will lead to a defective TCM. The TCM's are nearly extinct so finding one that is programmed and works properly will be a bumpy road. Good luck. -Glen
Well, her goes my attempt at this test! Probably one of your first, if not only female watch that solely does ALL work on my TJ (I mean I'm not as strong as some men, so I do require SOME help, and I ain't scared to ask! LOL but majority is done by me! This TJ is all I have left of my father who I lost suddenly in 2020 and I refuse to let anyone THINK they know what's up with HammBone (the TJ's name AND my father's Marine call name!)) BUTTTTT I hate electronics, computers and all this garbage..... but must be done, he's too close to being fully built in memory of dad and dirt / rock crawlin ready!!! Stay tuned, I will update with results and fixes. Thank you and Ken for an ENORMOUS amount of much needed info!!! Until then, keep the dirty side down!! #jeeplifeisthebestlife oIIIIIIIo
Sounds like a fun project Roseann! Cool story too. Thanks for sharing and definitely update your progress. -Glen
Thank Glen. I've got a '05 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited and I'm getting the P0700 and P1604 codes, but mine is blowing the 20 amp Transmission fuse. Any idea why that fuse continues to blow?
Sounds like a short to ground. Could be a wire rubbed through or a solenoid shorting out. Wiggle test. Good diagnostics is the key to finding the problem. Good luck Murph
I have an 06 new alternator new computer new battery still won't charge. Any ideas?
Have you tested the alternator? Has the wiring to the battery/alternator been tested? What diagnostics have been performed?
Hi Ozzstar, any resolve to this one yet? Trying to help a friend with his PT Cruiser. Same codes and conditions. Thanks!
I have a test light harness back probed into the TCM and waiting on the owner to drive it some more so i can get the data I need to find the issue. I will be posting a new vid when I have the results.
I put diaelectric Grease on all of my connections and plugs.
First time watching..l subscribed. Mini bulb a good idea for intermittent problems. THANKS
Thanks for stopping by the channel!
Mine is doing the p0700 and just started doing the p0850 code. It only does it when it’s rainy or when I took it thru the car wash. Still can’t figure it out
It can be a tough diagnoses but at least you have a direction now. On a nice sunny dry day I would break out my infamous spray bottle. Some water here and there may just find your prob. Check all connectors related to the transmission. Post you results back here if you can.
Can i do this exact to my 2005 dakota?
I have a 2013 Jeep Wrangler tcm light came on not check engine light when it happened kills my cruise control by the way its a straight drive will it be ok driving it that way till I change out module thx
What do you mean it's straight drive?
@@ozzstars_cars yes a 6 speed transmission in mine

Did putting a PCM in it fix it? I have the same Three Codes on my 05 TJ
PCM replacement has not been installed yet.
Is it because its on back order? I can't get my hands on one for my 2005 TJ with the same issue.
I have sent my pcm to Cardone 3 times to have it repaired and the same 3 codes are in it when it has come back. I am in the process of starting a powertrain swap. I am going to out either a 4.8 or 5.3 liter LS in mine. there are no pcms out there for this year jeep. I found one used in south florida for $1200. i Can have an LS engine and trans with harness andecu for $900
George Murray sounds like a fun project and a wise move.
Hey did you end up finding what exactly was wrong with it, because I’m having the exact same problem with my 06.
I can not confirm the issue 100% because the Jeep has now been relocated about 1 1/2hr drive away. I believe it is PCM related.
Ozzstar I think so too because when I unplugged the tcm plug to look at it and when I plugged it in and drove it, it was fine. But when I got back in it from where I was at it started again.
Yes it appears when the power (12v) feed is disconnected the TCM resets. It's tough to find a new unit. Chrysler should have been made to recall them but the gov't doesn't consider it a safety issue. :-(
Ozzstar yeah it’s hard to find the 05 and 06 ecu. Do you know if I could get an older ecu and separate tcm from an older tj and put them in my jeep.
TCM are all built in for '06 as you know. I highly doubt a separate TCM could be programmed to work.
Did you ever figure it out
Still working on the diagnoses. Owner needs to drive it so I can verify if its an ECM issue
Intermittents ,by their nature are unpredictable and are time wasters. The bulb method is promising. Going on the history of previous repairs to this model and year, a pcm fault seems the most likely. Sometimes a 100% certainty call is not possible due to time constraints.
It appears that a new PCM for this model is around $900 new. I have little faith in 'rebuilt' pcms with this kind of issue. It's a fine line...that's expensive. Thanks for watching and commenting
What scan tool would you recommend every scan tool I’ve tried only gives me the 0700 and will not read the tcm thanks
What vehicle are you working on? What scan tools have you tried? Did they work on other vehicles?
2005 Jeep Wrangler at the moment I don’t remember what the brands of scanner that I’ve tried a couple of them were a snap on which we figured would work but just the 0700 generic code is all I see
@@jacksondroneservices279 what symptoms is the Jeep having? Have you checked powers and grounds at the TCM? Have you seen the other videos I have on this issue?
Just did find your videos tonight will be doing some testing as you have done and nothing really major maybe a hard shift now and again but I feel that the torque converter is not engaging as it used to. It’s been a year since the light has come on and every time I reset comes back quicker as time has passed. I took it to the a dealership to have them scan it once and they couldn’t give me any other codes either
I bought a blue driver scan tool and love it I’m getting a P0740 along with the 0700 just curious if you could help me find or point me in the right direction to find more diagnostic test I can do before I go and replace the torque converter the reason I’m leaning this way is I see the tach fluctuations when at constant highway speeds and I’m thinking my torque converter clutch is toast but could be my solenoid pack or tcm thanks
I have a 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee limited 5.7L with a P0714 and trans over temp code, I used a red dot temperature gun and my transmission is running at 145F that’s really good temp. So I cleaned all the plugins and put electrical grease on it and it still comes back on. Any ideas?
Have you tried testing the temperature sensor itself and the wiring that leads to it?
I tried finding the wire diagram for it but you can’t find anything like that anywhere. I bought a Haynes book that didn’t show anything.I would like to check the continuity without taking the pan down if that’s possible but first I have to find out what color wires go to that sensor
@@jacobhighley3137 you need a resource like Alldatadiy.com. You can purchase individual service info by car. The Haynes manual is very basic. Also try getting a factory service manual, online. 😉
I checked the ohm resistance on the sensor and it reads 11.17. That’s from the control module in the engine compartment
@@jacobhighley3137 cold or hot? Find out what a normal range resistence is on it. It's a thermistor sensor.
So what if 29 doesn't light up?
Then there is a short. Find out why there isn't voltage. The TCM won't operate properly without voltage at 29.
we couldn't find the short in the wire so we hooked it to the fuse block for constant power and it started shifting
Has anyone actually solved the 2005 p1604 problem?
Yes with a new/rebuilt ECM. I would like to know what is actually defective inside them, I believe it is more than a software issue.
I'm experiencing the same issue. My jeep has been at the dealer for 3 weeks now with no luck. It seems like this PCM is on national backorder
Matthew Keller after 9 years the manufacturer legally doesn't have to supply anymore parts. Good luck with the fix.
