I heard this on a college radio station 30 years ago, and it's been in my head ever since. I love how easy it is to find music now. "Take that monster!"
I saw it in 1991 on a music video show called Noise Network, which aired on Channel America on Saturday nights. That was a cool show but the low power TV station that aired Channel America in my area went off the air. I couldn't afford cable at that time and Noise Network was a great alternative. I've posted online about Noise Network before and have yet to find anyone else who remembers it. At least I have my memories and this video lives on thanks to UA-cam.
LOL, hilarious song with a good beat! (His album from 1984 was rather good; shame he didn't do a second solo outing with the Shake Society, but with the B-52s he's *better*.) Great to hear Kate's vocals in this... and Fred makes an obviously silver/black 80s outfit work wonders. Almost timeless, actually... I'd love to wear that style today...

I love you Fred but I'd never seen this before? It was brave of you to do that song back then. Good on you. More new B52's music please? Lots of love to Fred The Great. Rah!
You and me both! How can I be 52 years old, a lifelong B-52s fan with many of their CDs (and having been to their concerts) and I thought this song was nothing but a JOKE all these decades now, when it really existed as a music video???? *stunned* How did I miss this? HOW???
@@le_th_ I've been thinking about it and it has to be that it was so hard to watch videos when the song came out. If the video wasn't in the rotation for MTV or VH1 chances were unlikely that we'd see it. Fortunately, now we can view these treasures at our leisure!
@@saral8911 Sounds plausible. Mtv was on every hour I was in my home back then (so much so that at class reunions the first thing old friend and boyfriends ask me is "do you still watch Mtv? lol), and they did tend to play the same videos over and over on rotation. Thanks for the insight!
Always loved this song. Never saw the video before. It's pretty cool. Fred was kinda cute in this video. I have no idea how this video is in any way controversial. Other than what the song is actually about, the video seems innocent enough to me.
wat??! Aardman has been around for 40 years. They did the vid for "Sledgehammer" in '86 IIRC. And "Monster" has a very similar look & feel... but yeah could be anyone. BTW I like ur rat profile pic =)
@theALmighty66 the album came out in 1984 credited to Fred Schneider and The Shake Society, then a slightly remixed version came out in 1991 with a new cover but credited to Fred Schneider only.
Sure is. There is this street artist in my area who goes by the name Keith Haring's ghost. He put up K.H. inspired art all over the city several years ago.
Actually heard this yesterday on a DC area radio station called The Gamut. :) I thought it was the B-52's. I see it was just one of the B-52's with other artists.
I heard it at the same time you did here in NOVA. I thought to myself, "what the hell is that?????" And here we are on UA-cam... The Gamut really plays weird/great music. They played another song Devil Woman by Marty Robbins about a year ago. That was epic for me.

I saw this on MTV it was hilarious and so glad to see it preserved on video!!!
Weird Al described this best: "A song originally recorded by Barry Manilow, but I think I like Fred's version better."
Used to watch this when it was new on V66. 80s were the best times
It was banned from MTV
Oh! V66 was awesome! Got to see quite a few banned from MTV videos on there!
Cheers, Mate!

Thank God this song was not used in a male enhancement commercial.
I have no idea what I just watched, but it was hilarious!

Hahaha I love the monster at the end. This song is timeless!
I Love to see Keith Haring in this Video !!
Cool song and mvideo.
Fred Schneider and the B52s always living in the 25th century ❤❤❤❤❤
I love this catchy song I love him dancing ... Lots of love
I love you Fred but I'd never seen this before? It was brave of you to do that song back then. Good on you. More new B52's music please? Lots of love to Fred The Great. Rah!
My friend told me about this back in the 80's. I thought he was putting me on.

MTV aired this version on a Dr. Demento top 20 countdown in the 80's.
HOW DID I NEVER WATCH THIS BEFORE OH MY GOD
I had this on VHS back in the 80's!!! I don't know why it was banned.....LOL! AWESOME!!!
When I was a kid I listened to the song and watched the video clip, but I didn’t understand the lyrics at that time. 😂
Muito bom.Saudades dessa época.
Hysterical. Only Fred Schneider could come up with something like this.
My mom used to sing this song all the time and nobody believed her that it was a real song
Best song of all time
The Claymation creature reminds me of Bump In The Night. And also definitely seems like something The Chiodo Brothers wuld make.
I always thought that Kate Pierson looked like Linda Blair....
I don't think women have to worry about Fred Schneider's "monster"... just saying...
Yeah your right, it isn't because he's a homosexual is it?
That’s one saggy noodle
Love this dance song ! Dancing @Graffiti's ASU way back 1984 !
Love this tune. But took me DECADES to figure out what he was singing about, LOL. 🙄 Cameo by Keith Haring too!
I thought I dreamt this...but its REAL!!!!!
Jo O Dr. DEMENTO???
Anthony Weiner's campaign song!
SweetSweetWaldo Hysterical! 😂
Did anyone else notice that they had Keith Haring at the end of there video, what a weird cameo I love it.
Yes and Tina Weymouth of the Talking Heads Kate Pierson Ethel Eichelberger And Shaila Edmonds

There was another video, like that Tom said, but I saw it only on a B-52's Video VHS that I rented. I'd like to find it again!
Happy B-day Fred!
Tom Kenny talking about his junk
Amazing,,,just amazing...
Always loved this song. Never saw the video before. It's pretty cool. Fred was kinda cute in this video. I have no idea how this video is in any way controversial. Other than what the song is actually about, the video seems innocent enough to me.
¡qué tío más divertido!
great post!
Not sue when it was banned from MTV because I remember seeing it there!
I remember this on U68 in the mid 80s.
V66 in the mid 80s
we used to listen to this in the 80s HIGH on LSD. never do ACID folks.
gary jonson in the 80's and did acid? What's was wrong with you?
Um barato kkkkk muito bom!
Brilliant
I have the album Fred Schneider and the Shake Society 😅 on vinyl
You watched it! You can't unwatch it!
Happy Birthday Fred!!!
Awesome!
MTV banned it but Night Flight showed it frequently!!
Night Flight ruled!
these were a few cuts of the video. but yes night flight ruled
Night Flight - that takes me back to being up along late at night and feeling differently about the world.
IFC is now showing Night Flight on Friday Nights now
V66 out of Boston ran it when it first came out
@andygo oooOo, cooL! Thanks for telling me. So this version here is from the original 1984 version, I take it?
It's not no Spotify in the UK for some reason
Fred's poor monster really took a beatin...
Is that Keith Haring?

@linusvanpelter it is tina weymouth and it is cyndi from the b52s
This is the best thing ever
Happy Birthday Frederick 🎂
Dr Demento show!
Monster rules!!
wat??! Aardman has been around for 40 years. They did the vid for "Sledgehammer" in '86 IIRC. And "Monster" has a very similar look & feel... but yeah could be anyone. BTW I like ur rat profile pic =)
Heard this song playing a party, lmao. Everyone just started laughing.
Love that Keith Haring is in this video and LMAO that this got banned.
Got a good beat!!!
OH, I MISS THAT! FRED AND THE SHAKE SOCIETY! SEEMS LIKE MY FAVORITE GROUP, THE B-52'S...
brilliant, attitude, character, funny, very original and creative . isn't it almost (3/4) b-52;s if it is the lead singer and 2 back ups ?
@theALmighty66 the album came out in 1984 credited to Fred Schneider and The Shake Society, then a slightly remixed version came out in 1991 with a new cover but credited to Fred Schneider only.
LOL great song. A remix would be pretty awesome.
My wedding song
rock and roll yeah
Hilarious!!
This song is one big Beavis and Butt-Head laugh moment.
How young Fred Schneider looks!
In 1983 MTV not only played music, they somewhat had morals.
Go Go Go Go!!
I first saw this video with my brother on USA Up All Night. We were thinking WTF!
I remember this from "Night Flight".
@Danika7044 fred is german and french
love this song sound better than today music
True story, bro!
lol...hilarious!
I spotted Tina and Keith, but where is Chris in this?
Cool shit
@witchcraftlord So it was remastered on or around 1989 but released in 1991 then?
I dance like this cause I got monsters in my pants lol.
ESTE SI Q ES UN MONSTRUO GRANDE B 52.
Oh, no a monster! Oh, no a monster!
I have the other version Tom saw it when he got the ending from me. It does exist and you can still buy it if you know where to look.
Was this really banned from MTV? I saw it around 1991 on broadcast TV on a show called Noise Network. It was funny then, still is.
3:05 Is that Keith Haring dressed in my dad’s old curling jacket? I ask because that’s his art style on the blackboard.
Yes, that's Keith Haring.
Sure is. There is this street artist in my area who goes by the name Keith Haring's ghost. He put up K.H. inspired art all over the city several years ago.
Melhor dancinha de todas.. MUAHAAHAAHAHAHAHAHA....
@witchcraftlord this is the same video but a remastered audio version was for the re release in 91
Perhaps the "monster in his pants" that he is singing about the same thing that David Bowie sings about when he sings about his jeans.
It was never banned from MTV in any form.
Wtf is this??? Lmao. 😂
I think I heard it again yesterday (10/23). I usually keep a radio on wherever I am.
Yep, that's when I heard it, 10-23
Kate Pierson is in the video.
Just heard it on the Gamut an hour ago her in NOVA. Big B-52s fan, but I was unaware of this song. So funny!
