Its the middle of the Cold War, Vietnam has only been over 4 years, Iran is ready to fall to Islamists, Thatcher has just been elected and its still 10 years to the fall of the Berlin Wall *yet* despite the Cyprus Invasion to mention one thing, this happens in 1979. MAGIC.
In the late 70s, I lived 1-1/2 blocks from Alfie's Disco in San Francisco, and I used to go there every night and dance for at least two hours. This was my aerobic exercise for the day. I did not go on week-ends generally because there was a $1 cover charge (and it was too crowded), and on weeknights, I only spent 25 cents for the coat check. I did not buy drinks, but I did help make the place look busier during the week, and I flirted with people who did buy drinks. I started several great relationships there.

It’s incredible that Patrick Hernandez had initially a total different idea for born to be alive but the producer weren’t interested at the time. He therefore stopped his music career and started raising cattle in his French hometown. A few years later, the producer offered him to release the song in a disco style, very popular at the time. The man made one hit, won more than 50 golden records throughout the world and still lives comfortably in Provence up to this day.

Can watch this endlessly. I'm gonna sell everything I own and open a night club exclusively playing 70s, 80s and 90s hits. None of today's crap. 70s night will be called "Born 2B Alive" Who's with me?! Yeah
I just love this, in a world echoing the absurdity of existence you find disco, it's not pretentious, it's not profound, it's not tribalistic, it's just mind free fun.
¡¡Esto si que era bailar!! 🤩💕👏 Veo que esas épocas tenían música increíble, yo soy de los 2000s y me encantaría que volvieran estas modas de antes. 🥰❤😍💕
This song brings me so much joy. I run every morning and watching these people get down keeps me going the extra mile. I’m in recovery from substance abuse and we used to do a workout video with this song in it in a program I went to. I was only 109 pounds at the time. I’m 5’8. Years later in better health and still clean and sober I listen to this when I workout and think about all the things I’m grateful for
What I love about this is that there are actually representatives from around the world. Oftentimes when there is a "world" this or that, It's just the United States. This was great. Took me back to some great times of my youth. Long Live Disco!!
@@baylorsailor I'm referring to musical and sporting events. They usually don't have true world representation. The US for instance often anoint themselves WORLD champions when they haven't competed against many countries.

OMG! THAT WAS THE TIME!!! We used to dance every evening in our disco-clubs without cellphones, we had a direct contacts and hughssss. I'm really sad for those new generations, especially now - it's so boring to sit at home - but you are born to be alive!!!
When music like disco brought all walks of life together. Black, white, brown, yellow etc. It didn't matter so much like today. I was born in 79' and enjoyed this music in my 20's, even now. My 5 year old and 1 year old keep asking to see this video. They'll know what Disco is growing up. Awesome video!!!
I was 12 years old in 1979 living in NYC. My friends and I used to stand across the street from Studio 54 and watch all the stars go in....it was surreal. Your post is 100 percent accurate in regards of all races just having fun. Seems like ancient history.
@@gildedpeahen876 Some people do actually stay fat even with a lot of cardio. It's not like there aren't any people who enjoy dancing a lot but are still fat. Have you not seen those dancing security guard videos? Some of those guys move way, way better than you would ever imagine for people with those builds. I mean, yeah, sure, most people will be a lot leaner if they exercise more, but some people just don't lose the weight that easily, and can actually be fairly healthy and fat at the same time. I'm definitely not one of those people, as I can stay thin without even doing the minimum amount of exercise you're supposed to do, but I know that it's a lot different for some people.
Cant watch this without smiling ear to ear!! Grew up in the 80s, I really believe that was the last generation of genuine individuals, genuine fun, open hearts, spirit, and true connection 👯♀️💓
You hit the nail on the head exactly this is the way it was in those days I was a teenager in those days and I loved it and I miss it and I would give anything in the world to go back God if only people knew what it was like back then only if people could understand what it felt like you can see it in this video it's loud and clear what life was like and how people were what happened to us what happened to this world what happened to human beings and people how do we end up like this now ?
It’s not just the great dance moves and the exuberant smiles. It’s also those outfits. I was there. I remember. Can’t believe I dressed like this to go out. So crazy. So fun 😂
Me too, and i am still dancing like in that time... And I feel big sorrow for today's generations - how they live like in the prison, the main fun for them are the protest in the streets against lockdowns,,,,, But even before that, they forget to dance......

Me too ! I was 18 when this song was popular . I’ve heard that Madonna got her start as a dancer for this guy and this song . I wonder if there’s any video of her dancing with the back up dancers ?

This is my "to go video" when I see the world news and all i see is violence and mass shootings. This video is a reminder that there is still good in the world.
I guess it was 1982 and this song was a few years old obviously; I was stationed in Seoul, Korea. They had recently repealed the 12 midnight curfew which had existed since the end of the Korean War. The clubs exploded after midnight dancing to songs like this. Such a great song with lots of frenetic energy. Great times to party and dance all night!🥰

Lotta coke too…. Seems to help… till about the mid 90’s end of addiction trainwreck… But it was badass…. I’m jealous. And people didn’t have the never ending resentment that fills our world now. God bless.
It was a time of self-expression. Dance is one of the greatest arts of self-expression. People live in fear and shame now. Seeing these competitors dance with such happiness and confidence, it really shows how diff the world is. Now we have crap like American Idol. Everything is about criticism.
You right the 70s for mw was a HUGE HIGH Just wanted to dance and watch the babes in feathered hair the tight bell bottoms and short mini skirts And wooow and the ass kicking t music . Dam the 70s were a blast
Una época maravillosa ,dónde todavía las jóvenes salíamos al cine o a la disco al café y podíamos andar solas y algo tarde no como ahora que desaparecen hasta de sus casas ,que tristeza para nuestro nietos les va a tocar y a época muy pesada
This one of my favourites!!! I'm getting to an age where, I can totally appreciate this song and after losing my parents, last year and this year...I'm so grateful and humbled for discovering this!!! x♡x
I'm feeling very much the same way you do about this song, Sharon. Isn't it amazing how our entire understanding of appreciation for & feelings about songs that we may have heard countless times in the past all can & do continue to change as we go thru life in all its various stages & events. They take on a whole new meaning & suddenly create an entirely new & deepened connection to our hearts & minds & reveal totally unique often invaluable insights into our own ever-changing inner-selves that we likely may not ever have seen or discovered were it not for the marvelous serendipity of hearing & EXPERIENCING a song in a whole new & completely unexpected way. Music in ALL its forms is truly a miraculous & awesome gift from God!!!
Just so fun, how can anyone not totally dig this tune? An everlasting gift of positive vibes and fun, simple fun. It was once a thing people, let's bring it back. For the fun of it.

A MONTH BEFORE I WAS BORN LOL
It’s incredible that Patrick Hernandez had initially a total different idea for born to be alive but the producer weren’t interested at the time. He therefore stopped his music career and started raising cattle in his French hometown. A few years later, the producer offered him to release the song in a disco style, very popular at the time. The man made one hit, won more than 50 golden records throughout the world and still lives comfortably in Provence up to this day.
This makes me so happy. Thank you for the update.
Incredible story, thanks for sharing.
What was the original style? Any recordings of it?
@@CreativeGPX The original style, as he wrote in his biography, was Death Metal. I can see why the producer chose to shift into a different genre.
Bonito y sano ❤🤣
Patrick was Genius .. and I am glad I was alive to witness the best yrs of music that actually made you feel ALIVE AND LOVE LIFE!
How exactly was he a genius, because he wrote one hit song?

Just dancing partying having fun, no cell phones, selfies, shooting ,just score baby

That's the exact comment I was going to make.
Can watch this endlessly.
I'm gonna sell everything I own and open a night club exclusively playing 70s, 80s and 90s hits. None of today's crap.
70s night will be called "Born 2B Alive"
Who's with me?!
Yeah
I'll be there with my roller skates, yess!! 😄
Call the nightclub EARTH 🌎
90s music isn't that great, just stick to the 70s & 80s
We had a place in Clearwater Florida like that called Bricktown 54 it was awesome
Find any start up capital yet I'm down?
I just love this, in a world echoing the absurdity of existence you find disco, it's not pretentious, it's not profound, it's not tribalistic, it's just mind free fun.
Wtf
Yea well intended, but f bro just let the music do its thing. Savash is bad ass tho!

This song brings me so much joy. I run every morning and watching these people get down keeps me going the extra mile. I’m in recovery from substance abuse and we used to do a workout video with this song in it in a program I went to. I was only 109 pounds at the time. I’m 5’8. Years later in better health and still clean and sober I listen to this when I workout and think about all the things I’m grateful for
That's awesome and congrats on all you have accomplished! Keep up the good work! 👏👏👏
Well done sweetie 🥰
Proud of you

I'm more concerned about their ages lol I know Julie Brown was 16 not sure about the other girls
What are their ages got to do with anything. I have just noticed Julie Brown is from UK, where age of consent is 16, if that is what you are implying.
What I love about this is that there are actually representatives from around the world. Oftentimes when there is a "world" this or that, It's just the United States. This was great. Took me back to some great times of my youth. Long Live Disco!!
What about the Miss Universe Pageant?
@@baylorsailor I'm referring to musical and sporting events. They usually don't have true world representation. The US for instance often anoint themselves WORLD champions when they haven't competed against many countries.

OMG! THAT WAS THE TIME!!! We used to dance every evening in our disco-clubs without cellphones, we had a direct contacts and hughssss. I'm really sad for those new generations, especially now - it's so boring to sit at home - but you are born to be alive!!!
ADORO🎊💞
You can never miss what you never had, so our generation is fine with what we have, and we would miss it if it was taken away...see the point?

When music like disco brought all walks of life together. Black, white, brown, yellow etc. It didn't matter so much like today. I was born in 79' and enjoyed this music in my 20's, even now. My 5 year old and 1 year old keep asking to see this video. They'll know what Disco is growing up. Awesome video!!!
I'm 26 , watch this video a couple times a week! Phenomenal dancing and beats!
Hi - I'm 63 and remember dancing like a fool when this came on in the clubs......
I was 12 years old in 1979 living in NYC. My friends and I used to stand across the street from Studio 54 and watch all the stars go in....it was surreal. Your post is 100 percent accurate in regards of all races just having fun. Seems like ancient history.
Tengo 72 años y esa si es música para mis oídos ❤❤la edad de oro ❤❤❤
Love the sheer joy and energy these dancers portray. Most of them look like almost flying on the stage. Dancing was a real business back then.
Not an overweight person in the house either. Disco is, obviously, great for health 🖤
Everything back then was taken with more pride .
It's mostly the cocaine.
Cant watch this without smiling ear to ear!! Grew up in the 80s, I really believe that was the last generation of genuine individuals, genuine fun, open hearts, spirit, and true connection 👯♀️💓
I agree with you
Couldn't agree more with you I also grew up in the 80's the best music was from the 80's ☺️👍🏻

So crazy. So fun 😂

It was a time of self-expression. Dance is one of the greatest arts of self-expression. People live in fear and shame now. Seeing these competitors dance with such happiness and confidence, it really shows how diff the world is. Now we have crap like American Idol. Everything is about criticism.
Every dancer enjoying life. Staying fit and expressing themselves. Lets go back to those times. Music is the only drug we need
