@@mesolithicman164the character of baron daemon was on the Syracuse NY ABC affiliate as a monster movie host and the host of a daily kids show where kids would play games and watch cartoons at the TV studio. Baron daemon was a goofy friendly vampire and strangely had a hit record with the song with transylvania twist. Bobby Pickett does baron daemon perfectly and I think that is the direct reference. Having said all that, I think it is him doing an impression of someone copycatting Bela lugosi vampire. Bobby Pickett does a great bela legosi when he does Igor.
In 1973, I was a young store security guard in Hicksville, Long Island and I had to work the night shift due to a broken window - the alarms were down. In the middle of the night, when I was alone by myself, I had the radio on in the store speakers and as I was walking past some store mannequins and this song came on. It was sort of funny but spooky.
Fun fact. In 1991 during the Gulf war, a Canadian Sea King helicopter flew over the Canadian navy ships at night on station with a jackolantern that just fit in the side door. They had this song playing on a loud speaker. I was told this from a Sea King flight engineer.
The song was first released in 1962. I love YT, because for the first time, I can see what many artists of older songs actually looked like. And often, they are very different from what I'd imagined them to be.
I have heard this song hundreds if not thousands of times over the years this is the very first time i have ever seen who actually was singing the song THIS IS AWESOME !!!!
A little history, folks. He was known also as Bobby "Boris" Pickett, and co-wrote "Monster Mash" with Leonard Capizzi in May 1962. The song was a spoof on the dance crazes popular at the time, including the Twist and the Mashed Potato, which inspired the title. The song featured his impersonations of veteran horror stars Boris Karloff and Bela Lugosi (the latter with the line "Whatever happened to my Transylvania Twist?"
I was nine years old when this came out, and we kids loved it! It was the era of the Aurora monster model kits and the old Universal monster movies on "Shock Theater" on TV on Saturday afternoons...
I play this for the first time for my granddaughter. She couldn't believe the lyrics in this iconic song. But she really enjoyed it. Now every Halloween she make sure when I put the Bluetooth speaker on the porch for the kids trick-or-treating she make sure this is on the playlist on my front porch giving out candy on Halloween. And then her and her other girlfriends start dancing on the front lawn to this song in their Halloween costumes
You’re making beautiful memories for your granddaughter…and yourself! One of my favourite things to do with mine was go door-to-door with them on Halloween night. It’s such a happy time with kids and parents out on the streets just having fun together. I was sad when they became too old to need or want their grandmother with them. They just wanted to go with their friends. As they should. I completely understood,.and frankly, I was becoming a bit too old for all the walking?
I've been playing this song every day. It sounds great coming from my Echo Show 2nd generation. Nice base, HD quality... Oh yeah, we were talking about Still listening to this song in 2019. I got side tracked...
I first heard this over 40 years ago and still love both the song and seeing him singing it. My kids are definitely going to be seeing Boris do this because it is so special.
I'm 46 and have not only listened to, but sang this song for years. This is the first time I have ever seen it performed by Bobby Pickett and I find myself going back and re-watching it. How absolutely committed to the performance was this guy: not only his amazing facial expressions, but his mannerisms and body language is almost mesmerizing.
Sedrea Ingram he became a one hit wonder and all people wanted him to do was songs like this and his career went downhill. he recently died but all he does is just perform this song which he does very humbly. Very nice man and I think there are videos of the older him performing this at Halloween events. I think the plus side is he managed to earn a living solely base on this song because of its association with Halloween.

Bobby Pickett may be gone but not forgotten your monster mash is still a classic around at Halloween still a favorite to listen to appreciate you guys thanks job well done you should be proud appreciate you guys thanks ! Joe

Back in the 70s in school, Everytime our teacher went to the bathroom we'd all sing "she took a crap"....."a monster crap"

Brian Glade It was a toilet smash
And it sounded like this 3:33
Bobby was actually only 26 years old here, but everyone looked older back in those days.
Because people dressed properly back then
@Fintan ...BAWWWHAHAHAHAAH
Food had less preservatives.
Back then, 26 was nearly middle age :-D So, he was approaching middle age and looked it. I knew this elderly lady and when she was talking about working as a pharmacist in her 20s and decided to quit because "I wanted to have children and I was getting up in age". She was 29. LOL!
@sotojoe8 What?! LOL! I think it depends on a lot of factors. Class and educational level. My parents were nearly 40 when they had me. It kept them young. They weren't settling in to an older way of living at a young age. My dad is in his 80s and still cuts his lawn with a push mower. He's very young for his age. ♥
This is the best Halloween song ever. Loved in the 50s and still digging it.
Ha
If you check out Geoff Castellucci's remake of this classic Halloween treat, be VERY attentive to all the little tricks he also supplies to us!
I believe this song was released in 1962
@@dgr1239 it was in 62 or 63
Check out the flip side, Monster mash party, it's just as good, if not better.
I've just heared this song today for the first time. It's so catchy, wow! It brightens my day 😁 Love his crazy facial expressions, Boris's rocking!
People talking about Pickett's facial expressions should know he's doing his impersonation of Boris Karloff.
Except the bit where he does Bela Lugosi. And Boris Karloff didn't continuously pull faces in his movies.
@gordon mathew I didn't
@@mesolithicman164 he is not doing bela legosi but baron demone or the singer of the novelty hit transylvania twist.
jmhave825
They're both doing a vocal impression of Bela Lugosi.
I'm a security guard right now! At the desk listening to this haha
Comprehensively spooky.
@@tommybomber shouldn't you be doing your rounds?
Michael Babbitt I want to be like you, sir.
1973 was the year my mom was born. No wonder she's so into horror movies.
This song is a timeless classic. RIP Bobby.
Yes I agree 💯 a classic, two years before I was born,my mom Joyce Parsons use to play, she passed away 2020,was 82
Loved it as a teenager, long ago.
It's perverted!!

I don't know anyone who doesn't know, or who does not like, this song. It's unique, it's fun, and it's a graveyard smash.

Seeing Dick Clark that young was a treat as was the expression Bobby did. This is a lovely find, thank you for uploading this.
Which one was that?
Fun fact. In 1991 during the Gulf war, a Canadian Sea King helicopter flew over the Canadian navy ships at night on station with a jackolantern that just fit in the side door. They had this song playing on a loud speaker. I was told this from a Sea King flight engineer.
Ha ha good one 👍👍
Everyone who disliked it clearly didn't listen to it in elementary school...
This song unlocks so many memories, my heart cry’s for those who will never hear this song
I miss the old days Period ! This was a Great song !
Alexei'sstuff and no one cares about this comment so why even type is... idiot
The song was first released in 1962. I love YT, because for the first time, I can see what many artists of older songs actually looked like. And often, they are very different from what I'd imagined them to be.
Mike I swear it was 1957 -58
Wahhh-oooo and a shoop!
@@rebeccaholthaus7571 - No. To the best of my knowledge, it was recorded in May, 1962.
And first released August 25, 1962.
You gotta love his facial expressions during the song the man is genius!
I'm 47 yrs. old and I still like this song. His facial expressions is cool.
patmsb1 well I'm 48 and still love this song. It makes me feel younger
I sometimes miss the past because of all the unique characters like the above. Thanks for posting Bobby Picket ; he was a blast.
When he's not pulling his Boris face, he looks COMPLETELY different.
I have heard this song hundreds if not thousands of times over the years this is the very first time i have ever seen who actually was singing the song THIS IS AWESOME !!!!
Has Halloween written all over it!
This song will never die!
Or Bobby picket ❤❤❤
Not only the facial expressions but the iconic Dracula and other voices as well!!!
His voice was an impersonation of Boris Karlof
DALE DOEHLER EXACTLY !! It's based upon his voice !!👍👍
Absolutely brilliant- always makes me smile when I watch this video - what a talented artist - thank you bobby for making me smile xx
Yes a great song and Bobby a great singer 💖
I think this song will be a favorite for a long time to come
A little history, folks.
@@701CPD Haha. I'd forgotten about those model kits . I built every monster .
That's Beautiful😁😁
You’re making beautiful memories for your granddaughter…and yourself! One of my favourite things to do with mine was go door-to-door with them on Halloween night. It’s such a happy time with kids and parents out on the streets just having fun together.
I was sad when they became too old to need or want their grandmother with them. They just wanted to go with their friends. As they should. I completely understood,.and frankly, I was becoming a bit too old for all the walking?
This song never gets old
Today is Halloween and it wouldn’t be a Halloween without this song
2019 and this song still rocks every halloween 🎃 👻
Yassssss!
@Noah Partic HAHAHA!! 🤣🤣
I've been playing this song every day. It sounds great coming from my Echo Show 2nd generation. Nice base, HD quality... Oh yeah, we were talking about Still listening to this song in 2019. I got side tracked...

Sure does, every single Halloween. 23 more days until Halloween, can't wait.

I first heard this over 40 years ago and still love both the song and seeing him singing it. My kids are definitely going to be seeing Boris do this because it is so special.
I remember riding around with friends up and down Main St. in 1973 and this would come on the radio.
Been awhile since I've heard it.
I was 10 when this song came out.. Loved it then and Still do. 50 years ago

I'm 46 and have not only listened to, but sang this song for years. This is the first time I have ever seen it performed by Bobby Pickett and I find myself going back and re-watching it. How absolutely committed to the performance was this guy: not only his amazing facial expressions, but his mannerisms and body language is almost mesmerizing.
jkgoodspeed
Right at 4:23, when he calls Igor an impetuous young boy. Those eyes! Karloff's eyes! Shivers!
This song is over 50 years old but it's still the best Halloween jam ever!
Oh wow. I didn't know it's 50 years old what year did it come out
It originally came out in 1962 and they've been playing this song every Halloween ever since...lol.
Wassaaaa
I have sung it on Halloween karaoke mnay times. Always with tribute to BP
ladyvee7110 lol but R.I.P Bobby Pickett
Its safe to assume every generation considers the song of Halloween.
His life story is kinda sad, but glad he would never be forgotten.
What happened?
Sedrea Ingram he became a one hit wonder and all people wanted him to do was songs like this and his career went downhill. he recently died but all he does is just perform this song which he does very humbly. Very nice man and I think there are videos of the older him performing this at Halloween events. I think the plus side is he managed to earn a living solely base on this song because of its association with Halloween.
And do notice how well dressed artists were back then :)
Is anyone else seeing how perfect he is...He's doing the voices for ALL of the monsters. I've watched this Over and Over!!!
