"Good composers borrow, great ones steal.” - Igor Stravinsky
He also stole that quote. Legend.
We demand a pt. 3 on this one. Make this into a full track. This is so sick.
I second this, we need a full song dude
Absolutely!!
I GOT VOCALS
heavily Agree
that riff is thicker than a bowl of oatmeal
That’s pretty thick ma boy, I agree
That was left to cool to room temp 🤌
Hey it's Gabe from the zoom call! It was super cool talking to you, and getting to pick your brain for a bit! Amazing riff as always!
Hey Gabe! Thanks so much dude! I really enjoyed our session too! Loved checking out your work and bouncing some ideas around🤘
Dude this last riff is sick, more like an "Invent Animate" vibe, really cool
In a channel full of thick riffs, this example may be the thickest and riffest
“The greatest artists are the ones that notice”
Watching this with my 2 year old and he says “i yike a dis song” I have to agree
that is an absolutely illegal amount of thickness in one riff, so sick.
Moral of the story:
Steal ❤
You are incredible brotha!!
Nick, this goes insanely hard, I would love to hear this as a full track! Is there any chance you'd be open to doing Tutorial Tuesday on your mastering chain settings and plug-ins? Great video, as always, looking forward to next Thursday!
You know its Thursday when Nick posts Thick Riff Thursday!
that tapping riff gives mega erra vibes
Definitely getting called daddy now. Nickleback "Riff Daddy" BloomTHALL. Shit slaps.
This is giving me very One Decade vibes. (Andrew Tkaczyk from The Ghost Inside's solo project). Sick!
Bro, you are an insane composer. Producer, too. God damn, this has to be a full song.
Damn you really cooked this one!!! More of this riffage please
Dude, I’m so down for you making whole songs out of TRT ideas. This is sick.
Fckn love that first riff man! Sounds juggernaughty
YOU NEED to get Brian Willie (Currents vocalist) on this. My god this thing SLAPS. Great job Nick ♥
if youre gonna make this a full song i think a variation of the intro with power chords instead of single notes after the tapping riff would really bring the whole idea together
Maaaaaaaaan, My favorite riff you've done since the beginning, holy shit O.O !!!!!!!!
🤘🤘
glitch was UNREAL
Bro this is too good! Def my favorite one you've done so far
The riffs SLAPS as always!
If you do make this into a full song I’d be down to throw some vocals in this
Straight up Monuments riff!
goes hard
this is awesome man. keep it up. i just discovered this channel and its already one of my favs. 😁
SEASON 3 LETS GOOOOOO
Listening to this I had the thought it was parts and not flowing into a song. And bam he calls it out right away at the end. So good
you gotta check out when the bought breaks by sleep token! it sounds a lot like the riff you came up with! sick
AYYYYYY i am always here for a part 2.
this track is insane
i definetly need to learn about mixting and mastering to get my stuff to sound huge like this
My favourite riff I ever wrote, worked on it with my old band for a while and never ended up using it. Didn't realise till recently it was basically a rip off of a tesseract riff 😂 it's all good if you make it your own
The low tapping part at 1:34 is one of the best riff I ever heard! Insane
Dude! You write some of the sickest riffs I've ever heard.
idk if it’s just the drums but now i really want to hear courtney laplante throw down on this track
This is way too good
Damn that riff is beast dude
Thanks man!
Damn this is one of my favorites so far along every episode and I love every episode 😂 💰💰💰💰
Reminds me of Thornhill too
i love you.
Nick, can you share a couple of your favourite spacey lead presets? The way you use them always sounds so tasty.
I love what you've got here, but some of it just feels a little abrupt, like it could use a bit more buildup before it changes, or like the new element comes in unnaturally sharply, as if it was programmed (even if it wasn't, or shouldn't sound like it was). Even I struggle with that sometimes, so I'm not sure how you could fix it, but I just wanted to point it out, otherwise it really sounds so fucking good, I love stuff like this :D
oh man, it sounds HUGE. Please show us the drums processing 'cause it sounds AMAZING
The first riff (3rd) that you added in this video is kinda Northlane vibes. Nice!
very sick..
Dude, from an old guy who loves metal and home recording I’m always super impressed with the tones you get!!! What is in your mastering chain?? I use ozone11 and don’t get anything like what you get haha
soooooooo sick bro bring it back around to the intro riff with a sick solo over it that would slap!
So rad 💯
this riff is unreal man!!
pt3???
Please somrthing like Thornhill! I've been wanting to learn their style but can't quite put a finger on what exactly makes their sound
RIFFFFFFFFS
Thornhill vibes
damn this riff is sick. hearing it in context it goes so hard
Very thick, indeed.
sweet baby Jesus that goes so harrrrrrrrd
Man you're such a great player!
That song, it has to be a single man!
This slaps
Thanks!
You ever come back to a riff the next day and feel it falls more flat than you felt the day before?
Best day of the week
think it'd be a perfect prechorus and half it to what it is now to setup for a big four to the floor open chorus...
Very good
i think it was a thick riff thursday might not have been but u were playing a riff that when u hit the string it went up in tuning or something, so u tuned higher or something like that to compensate, i tried to find the vid u did it in. i hope u can understand what i mean, i struggle with hitting strings to hard, and what u did really intrigued me :)
Bring back the distorted fat 808s from the first version 😭
Hey Nick! Awesome video. Would love to learn this one! Would you ever consider posting tabs on a patreon or to your members??
this one better be going on the album
5:49 could’ve went hard as it’s own section
Part 3!!!!!!!!!!!!
Just punched a hole in my wall. Thanks
Crazzzzyyyy “Make Total Destroy” vibes with the low string taps, but in the best way possible. Like I had said on IG, you never miss!
Dude as I was editing the video I thought the same thing!!
1:30 That's a lot of fret buzz there bud.
And you're tuned too low
to be true sleep token you either need to repeat the 3rd part but with super dissonance or repeat3x and fade out lol that's all that's missing
FULL SONG FINISH PLEASE
How do you decide what tapping melodies/patterns you want to use? I've never been able to write my own tapping parts
sleep doggy😘
Wait wait. When he was adding those prod layer guitars it looked like he was only strumming the top string and sometimes it looked like he was hitting no strings at all. But he had several frets going. What the hell was I seeing? Is that just some weird feature of that weird guitar?
In metal people often "rip off" other artists in the scene as pure homage to the bands that Inspired them.
I know a cool thrash band that pronounce the word death, deth instead of death as a homage to early German thrash bands.
I would call it borrowing to make something different in your own style instead of stealing.
What kiesel pickups are those ? Thanks 🤘🏽
Hi Nick, what plugins are you using for those production/spacey leads?
What DAW is that? I've always used FL for years but I assume that the DAW doesn't matter and the export quality remains the same? I'd love to have a daw where I get easily use a drum programmer and a bass programmer with easy access to edit the patterns and notes. Right now in FL it's a pain in the ass. May I ask what bass programmer and drum programmer you are using? Are they easy to use without a drum kit aswell?
hi i was wondering what type of keyboard do you use
Funny you talk about stealing from each other. I dont steal riffs.......but when Im stuck coming up with a part......I'll come here to get inspiration. I dont copy riffs......just tap into the type of vibe.
Love your music Nick! Cant wait for next week brother.
You should do something ripping off Volumes!!
all art is deritative!! Its all imitation, and thats ok.
Don't be scared of *accidentally ripping people off. If you write something and realize it sounds just like something else, then oh well.
Wait, what’s the Octave up midi shortcut?
Options shift up
Nah, man. It's not "Thursday". It's THICC RIFF DAY!
What electric drum kit are you using?
But a very good riff salad
پژمام🤑
DISGUST 🥰
which pickup for this guitar?
Check out the guitar tour video he posted on Monday! He goes over the specs of all his guitars🤘
If you ever need any heavier type vocals I could totally send you a song and see what you think…. I’ll pay for the critique
Does Nick Broomhall play Minecraft??
As much as I love this weeks riff, it feels too disjointed from the track, like a completely different song altogether. It would flow nicer if it went into a cleaner softer sound that left room for vocals or something of the like, especially considering how soaring and beautiful the intro is. Invent Animate really became masters of this. Just give a listen to Without A Whisper and you'll know exactly what I'm talking about. Amazing playing though!
Mr BroomThall back at it again with a fire riff
