As per the Porygon-Z theorum, Porygon-Z is the most balanced pokemon ever created as one single theorycrafted buff is capable of turning it into something unstoppable
Once saw a video about how if Porygon-Z gets only one buff to anything it has (ex: give it Flamethrower or boost its Speed) it instantly becomes broken
Yeah that sounds right, Porygon-Z is so uniquely balanced that anything that could make it strong will throw it over the edge. Buff its speed and its launching nukes everywhere, give it boomburst and it's the strongest wallbreaker around, improve Hyper beam in any way and Porygon-z will destory. It's impressive really just how well balanced it remains
Porygon-Z's Hyper Beam (with Tera+Specs, or Normal Gem, or Normalium Z or whatever the generational gimmick is) is the most fun button to click in Pokemon history.
I think that it’s harder to compare these two mons compared to other eviolite mons such as dusclops and dusknoir. The porygons are so different and their competition within the tier is so different. While I do think that 2 can be fit better within a lot more teams, I also think that z can function as a really strong nuke if it has a team that is built around it. Both these mons are rly cool
Porygon2 was meant to travel outer space, and PorygonZ was meant to travel to other dimensions. Porygon2 was born just in time to explore the final frontier of metadom, while porygonZ was born too late to explore rby and gen2.
The only thing keeping porygon 2 and z related are their biology. Their playstyle is completely different with one being bulky and the other being a nuke. I hope they give z some crazy form which patches all its problems and give it the same high standarts as porygon 2.
Also Porygon2 in gen 3 OU has a funny interaction with claydol being able to trace levitate being able to switch in eqs from it and then threatening it with ice beam It can also copy natural cure from some pokemon so it can freely get statused Porygon2 is a very versetile pokemon in gen 3 ou and is one of my favorite UUBL pokemons of gen 3
A suboptimal but very fun set I liked using on Porygon-Z in some older gens was Choice Band. People used to switch their special wall only to watch it get erased by CB adaptability Return or Double Edge. The thing is you could still use special moves as coverage for when your opponent caught on, as its special attack is so high even without any investment.
0:18 Adaptability isnt a 1.5x boost on top of the normal STAB multiplier. It increases the STAB multiplier from 1.5x to 2x. This results in an effective 1.33x boost to its damage, and not a 1.5x one.
Additionally, if you Tera Normal, the total STAB boost is 2.5x, which is a 1.25x boost compared to the 2x boost you get from non-tera Adaptability-boosted STAB moves. The damage boost here is fairly negligible and you're usually better off terastalizing into some other type for additional coverage or defensive utility. TLDR: Dont Tera into the same type with Adaptability mons, as it provides very diminishing returns.
Tbh if they gave us Porygon 3, based on lore and differentiating it from Porygon z it'd probably be a bulky mon, so you'd just be better off using Porygon 2 anyway. I think the only way a Porygon 3 would see solid usage in VGC was if it had a busted signature ability and/or move, or if it was more of a physical counterpart to Z instead (which I doubt would happen)
Porygon2 is my favorite pokemon of all time so im glad its viable in many competitive metas. I used it myself a lot in gen 8 1v1s as a gimmick stall set
I've always loved the weird contrast between 2 and Z since DPP, and I tried to use them both together even then. When BW added the Eviolite, you bet your ass I knew what I wanted to equip it to immediately. This is def my fav evo line in terms of how much love I have for each entry. also thank you for tipping your hat to Z i was afraid this vid would just be dunking on it
Z-conversion porygonZ to ghost type as a fighting move comes in then sweeping with adaptability shadow bawls my goodness. No amount of nerd math on a numerically supreme trick room setter can overwhelm thwt feeling.
Porygon2 and Z do different things. It’s like saying a pickup truck is better than a sports car. Porygon2 exists to be an annoying wall. Porygon-Z exists to nuke.
As we've seen with some of Smogon's other metagame formats, Porygon-Z is simultaneously underpowered yet also only one buff away from being immediately banworthy. 135 base Sp. Atk plus an Adaptability/Download boost is right on the verge of unstoppable. We've seen with Chi-Yu exactly how nasty that exact amount of Sp. Atk plus a 1.33x boost can be. Now all PZ needs to break the meta is a STAB special move stronger than Tri Attack. Imagine if the Porygon line got access to Techno Blast, for example.
Honestly if Porygon got Plushygon as an evolution in modern day they'd probably give it an exclusive ability that lets it have a free substitute the first time it switches in
Oh hey, its my BOI! I'm kind of surprised you didn't elaborate a little more on some of the details in Gens IV and V. Gen IV is where Porygon-Z was introduced, and in that gen I'm pretty sure it has the highest Special Attack of all pokemon in the game. Eviolite didn't exist yet, and this is also the generation that introduced the physical/special split so now Normal type attacks could be Special moves. Porygon2 still has better defenses, but without eviolite, Porygon-Z more thoroughly acts as an upgrade as most evolutions tend to do. Then Gen V happens. Chandelure gets introduced and becomes the NEW Pokemon with the highest Special Attack stat. Eviolite gets introduced, allowing Porygon2 to more thoroughly specialize in its bulk to compete with its evolution. With these two changes, Porygon-Z is getting outshined from two directions at once. This is where everything changed for Porygon-Z, the generation immediately after its introduction, and things haven't really gotten better since.
Something I always thought about Porygon Z is that it should have its own exclusive move. Usually I'm not one to promote signatures like that, because I think way too often tools that would help weaker pokemon just get funneled into ones that would already be strong without them, but if it's something that's proven to be too strong to be on most pokemon I think it's fair. Which is why I propose we give Porygon Z and only Porygon Z a clone of hyper beam that functions on its gen 1 rules, where if you knock out the opponent using it you skip the recharge turn.
I started playing in generation 4 and I wanted to use every Pokemon that had the ability Trace so I used Porygon2. It did not take me long to be sold on Porygon 2 as a pivot.
I use Porygon2 on my usual team when fighting on showdown and it's so fun to use. Put in enough defense and HP evs and it can survive a close combat, which says a lot about its bulk
You can run both on the same team. Partnered with a good Ghost Type, both can be set up for sucess. A fast Fighting Type can get blocked by the Ghost switch-in. This also allows the recovery turn of Hyper Beam to be skipped.
I dont think its fair to say Porygon2 is better than its evolution, because they're trying to do very different things, one is a bulky support mon and the other is an offensive sweeper. It almost feels like they should be a split evolution of Porygon, instead of being a single evolutionary line
Z Conversion PorygonZ in 7th gen was brutal, Omni boost and the original terra, I also liked running z conversion into a ghost type and spamming round with Mega pidgeot
Two major issues I have with this. 1. Not being ranked under NU is NOT a point of contention. OU and UU are very strong points of contention, though. 2. Just because Palkia, Lunala, and Caly-Ice had lower usage stats that P2 doesn't speak anything of P2. It just means that in that format, Palk, Luna, and C-I were either just unviable or dogshit compared to the threats running around. (Especially since Zacian-Crowned beats the shit out of Palk and Luna.) It'd better to compare P2 to other, similarly ranked, popular Pokemon for the format.
Mind you that NatDex Gen 8 VGC ran Dmax Porygon-Z + Friend Guard Follow Me Clefairy as a famous pre-cursor to the infamous Neutralizing Gas Weezing + Regigigas. Max Strike is a direct upgrade to its preferred base of Hyper Beam and would easily wipe anything without substantial bulk. Anything that survived ate a speed stat drop to the point where nothing but Choice Scarfers, Speed Boosters, or Swift Swim analogues could outspeed it. Clefairy pretty much ensured that Porygon-Z is burying one victim six feet under and at least putting another one in KO range. You could only comfortably deal with it using Ghost immunity or by neutering Clefairy as early as possible. Even if this setup's only true drawback is its predictable turn 1 (non-dmax Porygon-Z on turn 1 is extremely rare), it didn't matter much because of how overwhelming it is.
Imagine if they gave Porygon Z an agility that did what Conversion does: Changing it's type (on switch in) to the move in it's 1st slot. (Or more likely last so you can use both.) You couldn't have adaptability, but you *could* run many different types of the same Pokemon like a low tier Arceus
In current gen, I don’t know if P2 is necessarily better than PZ in singles. P2 was extremely solid with Toxic. Now that it doesn’t get it, P2 struggles against bulky set up mons like all of the Bulk Up Fighting types and Calm Mind Psychic infesting NU right now. PZ isn’t great, but Tera has helped it out offensively since it can change to Ghost for stronger Shadow Balls. It can even use Stellar somewhat well because it tends to run 1 million coverage moves on its sets. This might be the first gen since maybe Gen 4 that PZ is better than P2.

Porygon 2 is a solid support pokemon that will endure the fight long enough to do something, porygon z is a nuke that its mere existence empowers 2
Itd be awesome if the Porygon line got a new split evolution
without the malware?
Split evolution that makes it look like the Beta design.
The thing about Porygon Z is that it kind of does exactly what it looks like : a fucked up little thing that gonna break something or die trying.
Worth noting that P2 sees success in ADV OU, thanks of course to it being a rare smogon metagame where Dugtrio can still do its thing.
I've always loved the weird contrast between 2 and Z since DPP, and I tried to use them both together even then. When BW added the Eviolite, you bet your ass I knew what I wanted to equip it to immediately. This is def my fav evo line in terms of how much love I have for each entry.
also thank you for tipping your hat to Z i was afraid this vid would just be dunking on it
Porygon 2 in gen 3, when facing Dugtrio : I'm not locked in here with you, you are locked in here with me.
I love porygon 2 and porygon z them along side the scyther line are great examples of evolutions acting as side grades
First Boingus, now Zorpy - the PowerPoint Presenter Pokémon Platoon increases in numbers!
Always made me sad. Wish Porygon-Z got more love
Imagine if the Porygon line got access to Techno Blast, for example.
give porygon z boomburst 😋😋
HELLO ZORPY!! Thank u for giving love to both of these awesome mons
Specs Overheat Chiyu: "Finally a worthy opponent!"
This is the real paradox pokemon
Virtual Ducks
That would be a great anime!
Also make a Power Point about how Hitmontop is Incineroar neglected older brother.
I would go to school if these were the powerpoint presentations.
I can't be the only one who settles on Analytic to give Pory 2 an extra bit of oomph Download doesn't always give
Honestly if Porygon got Plushygon as an evolution in modern day they'd probably give it an exclusive ability that lets it have a free substitute the first time it switches in
Kieran's hyper beam porygon z was the only mon to take out any of my level 100s. I was impressed.
Tri attack porygon 2 has to be one of my favourite Pokémon to use
That kid from the first slide is the "Gary" of the Let's go games
As a Porygon-Z fan, i am offended and agree to what is mentioned. Porygon line is super cool
Min Speed Analytic is surprisingly fun, at least back in generations 6 and 7.
Beta Porygon looks like an NPC Toby Fox would put in Undertale where it pesters you to subscribe to its niche UA-cam channel.
Porygon-Z one-shots Blissey after a single boost, you don't even need specs when you're blowing up Lando-Ts with Nuclear Blizzards!
I started playing in generation 4 and I wanted to use every Pokemon that had the ability Trace so I used Porygon2.
It did not take me long to be sold on Porygon 2 as a pivot.
jimothy cool would be proud of you for mentioning gen 3 OU Pory2
I have to admit that I don't give a shit about competitive pokemon but these videos are just a lot of fun
thanks bro
I use Porygon2 on my usual team when fighting on showdown and it's so fun to use. Put in enough defense and HP evs and it can survive a close combat, which says a lot about its bulk
You can run both on the same team. Partnered with a good Ghost Type, both can be set up for sucess. A fast Fighting Type can get blocked by the Ghost switch-in. This also allows the recovery turn of Hyper Beam to be skipped.
I am so glad p2 is back
Just this ppt (p2t) got me in the mood for some damage calcs for the boi
I dont think its fair to say Porygon2 is better than its evolution, because they're trying to do very different things, one is a bulky support mon and the other is an offensive sweeper. It almost feels like they should be a split evolution of Porygon, instead of being a single evolutionary line
Both are still good. Sadly we can say much about Dusknoir who’s probably getting roasted when (if) you cover that line
That guy is Trace, one of the rivals in the Pokemon Go games.
Trace is the rivals of the Let's Go Pikachu or Eevee games
Hi Zorpy!
Porygon2 and Porygon-Z. 2 acts like a tank to end all tanks while Z splits U like 2 and 3 from 5.
i remember z-conversion into a ghost type to dodge fighting moves and start sweeping with an omniboost in gen 7
I still have fond memories of Z-conversion back in gen7. It wasn't... good, but it was so unexpected that it could cheese a lot of wins.
My Porygon2's name is Sgt. Quack. I like to think that he's the leader of my pokemon team and is the brains of the operation :3
The answer to a question everyone already knows
Z Conversion PorygonZ in 7th gen was brutal, Omni boost and the original terra, I also liked running z conversion into a ghost type and spamming round with Mega pidgeot
That Stadium 2 Novelty drinking bird animation ❤
Trace is the rival I wish I could erase from history.
I'll give this project an A+
Thanks for the powerpoint about my favourite Pokémon ❤🙏🙏🙏
The trace guy is from Let’s Go Pikachu and Eevee btw
As someone who plays Gen 4 OU, Choice Scarf Porygon Z with download is going to be the hottest new tech and no one can tell me otherwise.
I love Porygon 2 he is so cute and his blue shiny is even better
I would die for Zorpy.
First video i have to put in .75x to understand
I love the porygon line
YEAAAAAHHHH PORYGON VIDEO THANK YOU
My unbiased opinion is that you are absolutely right.
I think Porygon 2 deserves a Sequel that isn't a bugged mod
The Let's Go Rival
His name is literally Trace
Imagine if they gave Porygon Z an agility that did what Conversion does:
Changing it's type (on switch in) to the move in it's 1st slot. (Or more likely last so you can use both.)
You couldn't have adaptability, but you *could* run many different types of the same Pokemon like a low tier Arceus
I've never been this fast to a video before 🤯
TIME TO TALK ABOUT STORM DRAIN CRADILY
Dang man you should totally do one about Ampharos or Electivire
Was anyone surprised when installing a malicious virus on your Pokemon made it worse than it not having a malicious virus and staying as is.
Hello, Zorpy.
i love porygon 2 it's just soo cute
PorygonZ is the best and no one can convince me otherwise
Great video porygon2 always better great stall mon
6 months later, and ngl EWGF sounds a little dead. I'm glad that they have come such a long way :D
Guy in the top right is your lets go rival, had no idea his name was trace thought it was like, albert or lawrence
Everyone, say hi to Zorpy the Porygon-Z plushie!
Hi, Zorpy!
I just hope they both have fun 🙂
I'll save you all 2 minutes and 13 seconds, Eviolite.
I love these videos 💯😂
He sounds like TierZoo on 1.25x speed
Bro is shitting on my man Porygon Z
