Maybe porygon Z was a back up plan in case they could get the lake trio they used porygon and upgraded it for dimensions travel as the two legendary Pokémon live in “Alien worlds”. @my spirit digimon is rareraremon the pokemon company have hinted that all three will be in the anime at some point (don't remember where I heard this)
@@Zenithal1843 That's my point. It's the same version of him that vanished in Diamond and Pearl versions as opposed to the version from Platinum who was willfully stuck in the distortion world.
I’m of the belief that Porygon Z and the dubious disc were actually made by the AETHER FOUNDATION in a time before they pursued Type: Null research. In the Alola games, all Porygon-related items and even Porygon itself are obtained from Aether-related people. Gladion uses a Porygon Z. It’s purpose to explore alien dimensions fits the MO of the Aether Foundation and the pursuit of Ultra Beasts. And like Type: Null, it possesses type changing abilities to adapt to foreign environments (thru the Conversion moves). My belief, is that the Aether Foundation developed the Dubious Disc after seeing Porygon’s potential under Silph Co. They hoped to upgrade it to be fit to send through Ultra Wormholes. But after their own patch was deemed too buggy, they distanced themselves from the research. But the Dubious Disc still leaked before the events of DPPt, falling into the hands of Team Galactic, who have an interested in space and time in general.
In a realistic setting, it would be shocking there aren't more Porygon evolutions, given its code-based nature. The modding community would have a field day with it, and I bet Porygon qT and Porygon uwu would have been made within a week of each other
Doesnt humans lack the "mon" part tho? I mean in the pokemon world sure you could argue that the humans there are pokemon too, but I dont think that applies to the humans from the digi world tho(or from our world for that matter)
Porygon is an Appmon. Digimon come from another dimension, like Ultra Beasts. Appmon come from the human dimension, like Pokémon. Weirdly Appmon are like a month older than Ultra Beasts; these two franchises are goddamn quantum entangled. Did you know Tamagotchi, which Digimon was an offshoot off, released a month after Pokémon? - It was only after Pokémon started adding V-Pet elements in Yellow that Digimon went multimedia, and it is known from interviews Nintendo felt threatened by V-Pets in those days. Bandai Namco are the owners of Digimon, and if you know the lore of both Pokémon and Digimon, their lastest game Pokémon Snap might just get you thinking about the Royal Knights.
One problem with the theory, you can get the dubious disc before Cyrus ever disappears. A simple retcon could be that team Galactic hired Ross to make Porygon-Z so it could explore the Distortion world. When he failed, they got rid of him which would explain why he doesn’t show up in dppt. He probably went back to Johto or something. My guess is that Charon created it to explore the distortion world. Although he’s a genius, he doesn’t have access to any of the resources at silph co so he messed up the code. It would also explain why Team Galactic is in possession of the Up-Grade because he probably studied it in order to figure out how to reverse engineer the code. Makes sense to me.
I always thought Porygon was a metaphor for video games. Starting off with low poly (Like early gen consoles) then getting nicer, smoother models and eventually gets to the point where games are just very buggy. But that was just my approach. I liked yours a lot better. XD
I'm willing to admit I may have over thought this, but hear me out: Lockstin mentions that fixing Porygon's flight should have been a primary concern for the developers of the pokemon, but instead, they focused on making round. My argument is that making the pokemon round WAS their attempt, at least the most visible and obvious aspect thereof, at making the pokemon fly better. Firstly, we must consider how flight would be achieved. In the atmosphere, this is generally achieved (at least in planes) by forcing air around a wing to create lift. For this to happen, the air mist be traveling faster on the top side of the wing, so as to create a vacuum of air to generate the lift. Planes accomplish that by having a wing that while relatively flat on the bottom, have a larger and curved surface on top. This means the air travelling over the top of the wing has a longer distance to travel, and must therefore go faster in order to meet the air travelling across the wing's bottom (if the air didn't meet together, it would create a vacuum of air behind the wing, pulling the air over the top faster, that's how this works). Thinking about a plane's wing's shape, it is easier to see why they chose the design for porygon they did. In order to force the air over Porygon's body, however, the pokemon would have to be in motion. From here, the general shape of the pokemon seems to lend itself to being thrust forward from behind by some invisible energy. That makes sense, as it forgot the need for wings in the sense the birds use them, which wouldn't work in the vacuum of space, anyways. Opting to propel the pokemon through space using thrust created via Newton's third law in space, while generating lift in Earth's atmosphere using Bernoulli's principle. This Pokemon's design is low-key genius. Porygon was created initially in an environment where a high poly count wouldn't be possible, giving it the crude appearance it has. By smoothing the edges, though, drag is reduced. Rounder and sharper objects tend to behave more aerodynamically than do flat, angular surfaces. This means that Porygon2 would fly better, and it may even execute better flight control, too. This argument would be further strengthened if Porygon2 has a higher speed stat, which I'll check after I write this. I've always loved porygon, but this really makes me appreciate the design and thought that went into this. Even if by coincidence, the end product is beautiful! EDIT: Porygon2's speed is 60, while Porygon's is 40.
This is a very interesting theory. I really like it! My only idea of a possible hole is that in Pokémon Generations, Cyrus is able to call Team Galactic to tell them that he's fine, but to not come looking for him. I know this might not be canon, but it does prove that Cyrus is able to contact Team Galactic and tell them that he's fine, so they wouldn't need to create Porygon Z.
I think that it's more likely that Cyrus had them make the Dubious disk so he himself could get to the distortion world, since you find the disc before Cyrus is left there. I do love how a single random npc character has been given so much more backstory though, and it's head canon for me now!
Fun fact:all members of the porygon line were at one point fully evolved. The porygon line is also the only one that needs 2 trades to be fully evolved
I am still of the belief that giratina was never "banished" to the distortion world... but stationed... its actions during platinum are very deliberate, dragging cyrus into the distortion world right at the brink of his success... thus saving the world in its own way... its dex entry also says that it can see into the normal world through mirrors which is almost like a security guard watching security cam footage, and, although it probably could have easily killed you, it takes a more neutral stance towards you until you approach it (if i recall correctly, it might actually attack you) essentially only battling you when you threaten it... being frank... it can (and does) free itself from the distortion world as well... it recieves no outside help to physically drag cyrus into the distortion world itself, not to mention that you encounter giratina in the normal world in pokemon diamond and pearl... perhaps looking for the escaped cyrus to bring him to a place where he cant hurt anyone anymore
I love this episode and it really tied up a mystery well. It’d be even better if 1. Everyone acted like it’s a new Pokémon(having it in your party) and 2. You could find the Doubious disc in Team Galactic’s base AFTER Cyrus is sucked into the distortion world
Team Galactic being the ones who made Porygon-Z to try to rescue Cyrus sorta makes sense since it's a post-game only pokémon in the original Diamond and Pearl. So obviously the player wouldn't be able to get it before the climax of the game.
That was something I wish Lockstin had explained. In the games, when is the earliest you can access Porygon-Z/when do NPC trainers have it. If you can sight it before Cyrus' defeat, things kind of fall apart. And I think team Galactic would have a reason to try to create it even in Diamond or Pearl, meaning Porygon-Z doesn't have to be a version exclusive for the theory to work either. It's just the motivation is the most solid in Platinum
Cool theory that I haven't heard before! The only thing I think is a bit off is that the dubious disc is in diamond and pearl without cyrus in the distortion world. So I think it's possible that Cyrus commissioned it for research maybe even as far back as HG/SS if you want to explain why the dubious disc is in johto
I'm not used to theory videos on other channels and paniced a little when you didnt end it of with "and that's just a theory, a game theory. Thanks for watching". Lol

Can’t you make an video on how some Pokémon act just like their Pokédex entrees says? Like in the beginning of the game we see a Dodrio with two of its head sleeping while the third keeps watch. There’s a part where a Zangoose fights a Seviper. Or where we see 3 Mareanies chase a Corsula.

Man the porygon family was in my top 5 favorite pokemon for the longest time as a kid (like gen 1-4 honestly)... Such a cool video and weirdly nostalgic... Now I wanna use one in a playthrough
The one big problem I see with this theory is that the dubious disc is an item that can be found in team galactic's hideout, which you visit before Cyrus is even in the distortion world, let alone "trapped" there. I guess you could say the rushed code was meant for something else and they changed it to make Porygon Z, but if you trade Porygon 2 with the dubious disc that you can obtain before Cyrus goes to the distortion world, you still get a Porygon Z. Neat theory either way though.
I think the theory is pretty solid, but since you can get the Dubious Disk before the post-game, I would say that Porygon-Z was created by Cyrus to either explore the Distortion World or to access the timespace where Dialga and Palkia live
I'm late to this 😂 But Charon DID know what happened to Cyrus in Platinum, at least. Charon went to collect the new "Relics" for other Sinnoh Legendary Pokémon that were introduced. • In the manga and different aspects/tellings of the anime, Saturn tries to save Cyrus, but then is reassured by Cyrus that Saturn CAN Lead Galactic as a good Leader.
Porygon was also available from the team rocket run game corner. What’s a better prize than a Pokémon you can make copies of? They also took over silph co. I could see the Pokémon and the discs being on the black market. Missed chance for more villains to have the line.
Video idea: How did Mohn(lusamine's husband) managed to escape from ultra wormhole and reach that island? Why cosmog was with him? Wasn't it supposed to be under the care of solgaleo and lunala? In anime, what the heck happened to him? Are they going to rescue him in Pokemon journeys? If so, why didn't they tried in sun and moon itself?
For the anime, its very possible they will find him. The hints come from crown tundra’s max lair lore. The max lair was infected with ultra wormhole energy which is why it’s pulling pokemon from different dimensions. The explanation to this was from the broken description of adventure 4 of crown tundra, where it mentions professor mohn. And the scientists stationed there are from burnet’s dimensional research lab. In the anime, the train the aether fam are currently taking shows a snowy landscape, presumably following magearna to galar’s crown tundra.
I wonder if Rotom might have anything to do with it. Maybe the dubious disc is an upgrade that rotom messed with, as it is a piece of technology, and when it got applied to porygon 2 it was all glitched. An un-rotomized dubious disc might give us a perfect Porygon.
Oh! Edit and Note: Porygon Z is my favorite Pokémon and it may get a mega evolution which I am excited about, I also have a Porygon 2 plushie like you!
It might get a regional variant in the future that will evolve into Porygon3. We've seen alternate evolutions from regional variants several times in this generation.
@@JamesDavy2009 Also, there’s a slight possibility of a mega for all legends from Sinnoh, Arceus could get one but needs all 3 space makers with mega stones to get.
Thank you so much for making this video about my favourite Pokémon! Didn't know I needed this, but I did. Looking forward to the possible 'part 2' about him!
Well, with regional variants being a thing we might see a future variant of Porygon achieve evolution into Porygon3 through the Up-Grade item. There's some food for thought for all of you fan game designers out there.
Solid theory however, can t be true since gen 2 and gen 4 happen “at the same time” .In gen 4 if you talk to you re tv there will be news about a red gyarados at the lake of rage therefore the ross guy was still working for team rocket and wasn t able to give his knowledge to team galactic unless of course he was working for both teams at the same time
To be fair, making a Pokemon like that would have been hard enough without magic. So Porygon2 failing it's intended purpose makes sense. And maybe PorygonZ is just glitchy because they tried something huge but it didn't work out as well as they'd like...
Slight issue here: You find the Disc _before_ Cyrus gets smacked by Giratina. But this is a simple fix. Porygon-Z may have been designed as part of a rescue contingency, one Cyrus didn't give enough time for proper development.
I was really hoping to see someone else mention when you get the dubious disk, and the contingency plan thing is a nice idea, but I don't think they expected Giratina to show up at all. The plan was 1. Catch the lake guardians 2. Make the red chain 3. Use them to control Dialga and Palkia 4. Remake the world in his image. Giratina showed up right the heck outta nowhere, surprising everyone (since the only real buildup to it was the title screen), so I doubt they had a plan to deal with it if they appeared.

Uhhh. No. Cyrus is named Cyrus because of David Koresh (a famous cult leader whose name, Koresh, translates to Cyrus, as in King Cyrus of the Bible.) As far as Akagi, it’s probably a reference to the fact Cyrus is literally a volcano waiting to explode, seemingly dormant/inactive but in truth seething with rage and emotionality to a boiling point.

Odd and cool choice, I like you

4:45 The first mention of Alternate Dimensions comes when cyrus is summoning Dialga/Palkia. He says he summons them from another plane.
That's a very solid belief and I'll incorporate it into my head canon.
In a realistic setting, it would be shocking there aren't more Porygon evolutions, given its code-based nature.
The modding community would have a field day with it, and I bet Porygon qT and Porygon uwu would have been made within a week of each other
I smell a Missingno video in the future!
Also, do you think you can do a video on what real-life locations the spin-off regions are based off of?
Yes please.

Pokémon means Pocket Monster
Porygon is made entirely of data
Porygon is, by definition, a Digimon
Pokémon x Digimon crossover confirmed
But yet can be stored in a techno apricorn...
If you think about it all pokemon can be converted into data and be stored in computers, meaning they're all Digimon
@@ale-xsantos1078 By that logic humans are also Digimon, since humans can be converted into the digital world as well.....
Porygon-Z is one of my favorite Pokemon! Thanks for giving it the love it deserves, Lockstin!
Lockstin : Here I am!
Editor : *rock you like a hurricane*
I noticed that too
I always thought Porygon was a metaphor for video games. Starting off with low poly (Like early gen consoles) then getting nicer, smoother models and eventually gets to the point where games are just very buggy. But that was just my approach. I liked yours a lot better. XD
Sorry, my bad! I clicked on a free give away link while working on Porygon-3
14:24 You seriously don't realise? HE IS HAVING AN EPILEPTIC SEISURE!
11:13 The localizers who went with describing the object instead of what's on it: yes
I'm willing to admit I may have over thought this, but hear me out:
Lockstin mentions that fixing Porygon's flight should have been a primary concern for the developers of the pokemon, but instead, they focused on making round.
I know this might not be canon, but it does prove that Cyrus is able to contact Team Galactic and tell them that he's fine, so they wouldn't need to create Porygon Z.
first, he discusses orbeetle, then melmetal, and how porygon Z! my 3 favorite pokemon
Donkey in the Distortion World: "Shrek, I'm Looking Up!"
I think that it's more likely that Cyrus had them make the Dubious disk so he himself could get to the distortion world, since you find the disc before Cyrus is left there. I do love how a single random npc character has been given so much more backstory though, and it's head canon for me now!
Haven't finished yet, but he's gonna mention that the Dubious DIsc was found in the Galactic HQ building in Platinum, right?
Fun fact:all members of the porygon line were at one point fully evolved. The porygon line is also the only one that needs 2 trades to be fully evolved
He comes up with ideas and theories that the Pokémon company didn’t even think about
I am still of the belief that giratina was never "banished" to the distortion world... but stationed... its actions during platinum are very deliberate, dragging cyrus into the distortion world right at the brink of his success... thus saving the world in its own way... its dex entry also says that it can see into the normal world through mirrors which is almost like a security guard watching security cam footage, and, although it probably could have easily killed you, it takes a more neutral stance towards you until you approach it (if i recall correctly, it might actually attack you) essentially only battling you when you threaten it... being frank... it can (and does) free itself from the distortion world as well... it recieves no outside help to physically drag cyrus into the distortion world itself, not to mention that you encounter giratina in the normal world in pokemon diamond and pearl... perhaps looking for the escaped cyrus to bring him to a place where he cant hurt anyone anymore
My personally theory is that Giratina ate Cyrus, or at least threw him into the endless void of the Distortion Realm

Being lockstin
The one big problem I see with this theory is that the dubious disc is an item that can be found in team galactic's hideout, which you visit before Cyrus is even in the distortion world, let alone "trapped" there. I guess you could say the rushed code was meant for something else and they changed it to make Porygon Z, but if you trade Porygon 2 with the dubious disc that you can obtain before Cyrus goes to the distortion world, you still get a Porygon Z. Neat theory either way though.
Pokémon Company: Announces Gen 4 remakes
Lockstin: *I can milk you*
With enough prolactin you can milk anyone
I think the theory is pretty solid, but since you can get the Dubious Disk before the post-game, I would say that Porygon-Z was created by Cyrus to either explore the Distortion World or to access the timespace where Dialga and Palkia live
Hey Locks, do you plan on making shinies for your Lokemon? Even if it’s just the starters, that would really cool.

Well, with regional variants being a thing we might see a future variant of Porygon achieve evolution into Porygon3 through the Up-Grade item. There's some food for thought for all of you fan game designers out there.

To be fair, making a Pokemon like that would have been hard enough without magic. So Porygon2 failing it's intended purpose makes sense.

Wow, is it late for me. I’ll have to come back tomorrow to watch this, unfortunately. See you then!
Edit: I watched it. Great video as always!

Cyrus is named Cyrus because of David Koresh (a famous cult leader whose name, Koresh, translates to Cyrus, as in King Cyrus of the Bible.)
