DEFTONES | WHAT WENT WRONG WITH GORE

- Deftones one of few very bands that had a long lasting career with practically perfect track record of albums. Even though "Saturday Night Wrist" had a mixed reception it did spawn quite a few fan favourite tracks. But when it comes to 2016's "Gore" it raises quite a few eyebrows among long time Deftones fans. There are still listeners who enjoyed this effort but whenever discussions about the band's discography arise "Gore" usually ends up at the bottom of the list. So in this video I am asking and trying to answer the question "What Went Wrong with Gore".

It's been over a year since my last post. In fact the VoiceOver for this video was recorded over a year ago. It's been a tough year and I really struggled to find the time to make content that is up to my usual standard. And while at it I have also just posted a vocal Cover for Battle-Axe by Deftones. If you have the time please give it a listen and let me know if you like it.
As usual thanks for your time and support!
Hope you enjoy these new uploads.
Thank you,
JD
I feel that Deftones doesn't have a bad record in their discography. They're all good in their own ways. It makes me sad to see that Gore is very underrated. I understand that most people don't care for experimental records that artists and bands do at some point in their careers because, we're creatures of habit. Change is scary to most people, myself included but, I enjoy experimental records and sounds and Gore is one of those records. There are great tracks on it like Prayer/Triangles, Phantom Bride, and Hearts/Wires.
I get how you feel… and as I said Gore is my least favourite records by the band but I don’t have the balls to say it’s a bad album… because it’s not. I do like prayers triangles as well btw. Thanks for sharing your opinion as usual! Glad to still see you around! Btw check out my vocal cover on Battle-axe if you have the time.
Great video! I have been waiting for it ever since the community post you made 7 months ago.
Thanks man! Sorry it took so long but I finally managed to finish it! Glad you liked it!
You’ve returned!
Haha! Yuh you may say that! =) Been a long time, sorry.
@@saysthemanbehindthemaskYou’re fine. I was just wondering about you when I saw that it has been a year since you uploaded.
Yeah man… it’s been a really rough year for me. I just couldn’t keep up with making new content.
Great video as always! Are you still planning on doing the vid on Tool’s Ænima?
Hey Zach! Thank you glad you liked it! Aenima? Yes, I am planning to make that video! BUT... it's such a huge undertaking... so for me to begin working on that I really need to be in the right place mentally. Hopefully I will get sorted with my difficulties I've had over the past year I will get to it. Apologies for such a long wait... I really hate that it's taking me so long to get around to making that video! Thanks for your patience and support!
@@saysthemanbehindthemaskof course man!! Take all the time you need to. If you need any help with anything or anyone to talk to feel free to message me. Also, I love your vocal cover, Battle-Axe is a phenomenal song, the self titled album is my favorite release by far. Good taste my friend 🤘🏻
Much appreciated! Glad you liked my cover. Battle-Axe is one of my favourite songs.
@@saysthemanbehindthemaskHave you ever considered joining/forming a band at some point? You definitely have the talent
Thank you! Glad you think so. Well I have been in a few bands over the years. But it's been quite a while since I did something serious. I am gonna try to do something worth while hopefully soon. Looking for musicians at the moment. Fingers crossed
Every time you drop a video it's an event for me.
That’s a great compliment for me! Thank you very much for support!
It's good to have you back.
Thank you! I really appreciate it!
Gore gets better for me with each listen. My personal favorite song is Geometric Headdress. Every time I hear it, I need a hug afterwards.
The main thing about Gore is that it was just the band out of balance. They work best when they’re balancing each other out. And with Chino in the lead, he’s gonna dominate heavily. It obviously had results (Prayers, Phantom Bride and Hearts), but too much of one person isn’t what makes a good Deftones Record.
Well put. It’s pretty clear that he was the main writer on this. I love Chino but I really think he works best with Stephan. Not a big fan of Chino’s other projects. I do look a few Crosses tracks but it’s not my go to when it comes to Chino’s work. But he really added a lot to the band’s sound when he picked up the guitar on White Pony
This album Is so underrated. Their worst albums are self titled and Adrenaline imo.
I won’t argue. Deftones is a very special band and I can’t say they really have a bad album as I said at the of the video Gore is by no means a bad album but my least favourite. To me from the bottom of the list it would be Gore, Ohms, Adrenaline. But I absolutely understand it’s very individual
It’s the production that ruins the album
Yuh it’s definitely a major issue of the record. Though I still feel like it’s way more interesting than any modern metal record in terms of production but the mix suffered greatly unfortunately
I wouldn’t say Gore is a bad album at all. I would however say that Koi No Yokan was a bit underwhelming.
That's fair. To each their own.
