Chris was the first, and he really brought some fusion to his style that really made especially Peace Sells unique! Jeff Young is just your typical 80s shred guy. Nothing wrong with that but definitely not the right guy to replace Poland. Marty was indeed the right guy to replace Poland, he only built upon what Poland already did and pretty much made Megadeth into what it is today! Al was an odd choice to replace Marty, he's incredible but was way too bluesy compared to whoever came before him. Glen was your typical 2000s shredder, kinda like what Jeff Young was back in the day. He exaggerated every single thing he played and did kinda butcher a lot of that stuff. Broderick will always be my favorite modern day Megadeth guitar player, I got into Megadeth around Endgame, 13 and the Big 4 show. He's super precise and had a very unique sound but it was underutilized, him playing Marty's solos sounded more like a super accurate cover, but his own work in Endgame and 13 is still incredible! Glad to see him do well in In Flames :) Kiko was an odd choice at first but proven to be a really good one. He did the best job one could to channel in Marty through every note he plays, which is exactly what a legacy band like Megadeth needed to still be good to see live. Teemu is pretty much the aggression of Drover but with the precision of Broderick, he's the most razor sharp out of all of them, which does kinda sound weird in some songs but it's a cool modern refresh!

No matter who is the best or any preference list, they were at the band's best authorial moments, hands down. Personally, Friedman and Loureiro are true virtuosos, but the three first albums, specially So Far, had a kind of spiritual purity, transmitting a raw vibe that the band never had again and are, IMHO, the most thrash metal songs that they ever released. rustain has absolutely nothing to do with where he plays. management and promoters do that stuff. megadeth gets paid a flat rate per show, so it doesn't matter how many people show up. if the show is undersold and loses money, the promoter eats it.
I loved the Marty/Nick lineup. I think Kiko brought the Megadeth back to feeling like a band and not just Dave’s show. I mean I totally recognize that Dave is Megadeth and why he is Megadeth but I missed the band feel from when they would film everything backstage and stuff. Kiko seemed to bring Dave out of his shell and be actually enjoyed his band again. I like pretty much every Megadeth guitarist, with the exception of Jeff Young and its only because I didnt really like his personality then or now. Dave once gave an interview saying the only guitar player that left Megadeth and did anything big for themselves was Marty. …and Marty did! Marty became a Japanese phenomenon! Jeff took offense to that and to this day I dont know why. I never heard tell of Jeff Young again til he teamed up with Jr a couple of years ago. All that being said I would love to just see one show of Dave, Jr., Marty and Dirk. I think Dirk is THE BEST since Poland and Menza.
Marty is unique in style & sound & visually,He never stood still always running around stage so he was great to watch,When he left & started realeasing solo albums he went to an even higher level.
Dave Mustaine: Forty years of searching for the best guitarist....plot twist, any one of them was good enough. Imagine what Megadeth could have achieved if he had spent 1 day searching for a better vocalist 🗿
Every Megadeth guitar player fits in the band, because Dave knows what is doing and what they can bring to the sound of the band. In my opinion the most unique style has Chris Poland, but I cant decide whos the best or worst, because they are all good in their own way.
Poland and Friedman are head and shoulders above the rest. The rest might be good players, but none of them can hold a candle to what those two achieved creatively in terms of producing classic songs and solos. It's just no contest.
Something I noticed in 2010, when Chris Broderick was in the band, was that when they played live, when Chris played a solo, you could hear Chris' guitar clearly, and Dave's rhythm guitar clearly. When Dave played a solo, you couldn't hear Chris' rhythm guitar at all. Was Chris not a good enough rhythm player?
That may be the case. I unplugged a speaker to hear Broderick's rhythm on the Live Rust In Peace 20th Anniversary album. Still low in the mix and the tone was muddy, but you could hear that it wasn't locked in tight like Mustaine's and there were a few bung notes here and there. I still love Chris's playing and value his time in Megadeth 🤘
Yeah, I think it's almost unviersal held, that Teemu is the best since Marty. I also want to hear what Teemu does on new recordings, cos of all the the 'deth catalogue so far, is faultless. I actually like Poland the best, becuase of his individuality, but MArty's right there too. They're like A1 and A2 for me
I remember Dave said Kerry King was probably one of the best rhythm guitarists because Dave was the main lead player at the start but he and David Ellefson were most impressed by Kerry's ability to pick up and repeat something he was shown straight away. I think The Sick, The Dying And The Dead is a great album but I feel like it was written with a formula in mind rather than any major stand-out inspiration. Dave needs to let the band members off the leash during the writing process to come up with more original ideas that can be condensed into songs. Chris Broderick's greatest strength was his ability to reproduce all the guitar parts of every recording guitarist live. Speaking of being let off the leash, the main reason he and Shawn Drover left the band is because they were jamming new ideas that they weren't able to use on the Supercollider album and they felt creatively restricted in the band. That's according to a Chris Broderick interview I watched after he left anyway.
That album from recently has some of the most wicked sinister guitar on it hes still growing as a musician and right now streets ahead Metallica who need to block the yes men around them does rhis sbare sound good says lars yea says the yes men even though it is the only thing that could be the worse thing in musical ideas why nobody said anything is why they don't have the same attacks these days this mega death is totally metal
Megadeth had no bad guitarists, at least in my opinion. Altho, the ones I consider best are Marty, both Chris Poland and Broderick, Kiko and Al. That's pretty much it.
In the mention of Glen, he actually was one of my favorites. I loved his work on Washington is Next. He had a certain flow that was unique. Wasn’t 5000 notes per measure yet it didn’t need to be. Side note… I also think UA is the best sounding Megadeth album. Not the best record, yet the best production. Best tonal qualities all the way around. Just my opinion. Not trying to step on toes
chris poland is the best musician to ever work with rustain, period. every guitar player is on record saying poland's solos and style ere the hardest to emulate. but, every dude he's had in the 2nd guitar chair have all been top tier players. broderick and friedman are next level guys
Broderick is so uderestimated! Teemu is masterclass, and after very long time we may see "how the story ends" live. Teemu can nail it, I'm sure, and Kiko didn't want to bother with anyone else's solo, which is terrible. Ofc, Marty is the king
Going back to marty. He was in bands before metaliica was even founded. Hawaii, the natives are restless. Marty is and will always be one of the best if not the best guitarist megadeth or not.
Dave always tried to hire world-class professionals. Almost all of them are great players, but only few of them are also great composers. Marty's and Kiko's solo albums speak or themselves. Kiko is co-author of 11 songs from 2 albums he participated in. So Dave appreciated to his ideas. Teemu is great in Wintersun but let`s wait what he will bring to the band's music. Chris Broderick is super high class player but not composer. I was not impressed at all of his band Act of Defiance
He has talked shit about Al after that interview saying that he wasn't very good which is why they were only playing one song off of TWNAH which was at the time Return to Hangar.
On Chris B, from watching videos of his playing he looked bored; maybe Dave M ranked him lower not due to his technical ability, but his fit for the band.

There's a difference between technique and creativity..... depending on what we mean by "best" or "favorite", these answers can change.
Dave Mustaine: Forty years of searching for the best guitarist....plot twist, any one of them was good enough.
Imagine what Megadeth could have achieved if he had spent 1 day searching for a better vocalist 🗿
I found it a bit sad to see Dave refer to kiko as "not really a metal guy" and subtly put him down. Come on man.
Marty, Kiko and then Poland
Every Megadeth guitar player fits in the band, because Dave knows what is doing and what they can bring to the sound of the band. In my opinion the most unique style has Chris Poland, but I cant decide whos the best or worst, because they are all good in their own way.
Dave can pick some badass guitar players
Man, you forgot Cannibal Corpse and Immolation throughout Europe. How can it more brutal?
Poland and Friedman are head and shoulders above the rest. The rest might be good players, but none of them can hold a candle to what those two achieved creatively in terms of producing classic songs and solos. It's just no contest.
Dave only gets the best. That’s what Megadeth requires.
I think teemu will be amazing on the next album.
Marty Friedman set the bar for whoever replaced him . Dave knew he couldn't go back to just average shredders "
I read "one cocky buzzard". Innocent me.
They're like A1 and A2 for me
My question is, why did he go thru so many great guitarists? And also, I miss David ellefson.
Exactly, there’s one common factor, right?
There's a Wikipedia entry "List of Megadeth band members" that discusses all these in detail
I’ve seen Gunter Guthrie sweat around kiko. 😂
Forgive me for being so agreeable but loved all of them. They are/were all good choices. only too bad so many had to leave.
Marty is great but I find myself going back to Polands tracks a lot
Megadeath kicks ass... Period, loved 90% of what this band did. I think. Many of us can agree risk.. was risky business
You forgot Kerry King ;.)
He said good guitarists
Never heard of her
For a guy that has spent the last forty years whining about getting kicked out of Metallica, dave sure fires a LOT of band members.
Friedman and Polad.
chris poland is the best musician to ever work with rustain, period. every guitar player is on record saying poland's solos and style ere the hardest to emulate. but, every dude he's had in the 2nd guitar chair have all been top tier players. broderick and friedman are next level guys
Broderick is so uderestimated! Teemu is masterclass, and after very long time we may see "how the story ends" live. Teemu can nail it, I'm sure, and Kiko didn't want to bother with anyone else's solo, which is terrible. Ofc, Marty is the king
To me marty friedman was when megadeth made their best albums hands down
KIKO by far !!!
Torille! 🤘🏻😎🇫🇮
They all play way better than me 😂
Love Marty
megadeth top 3 in equal spot are: chris poland, marty, kiko
1-Marty, 2-Kiko, 3-Chris, and Teemu will take the #1 spot once he gets a couple albums under his belt.
I actually like Jeff Young alot, though Chris Poland is my favourite for sure.
Also who the fuck is Albert haha
Mike Albert filled in for some shows when Chris Poland got arrested, I believe this was during the Killing Is My Business tour.
I was not impressed at all of his band Act of Defiance
ever dig into some of poland's solo stuff?
@@cbr9914 Chris Poland is great player, Kiko confirmed this on his YT channel when played some songs from KIMB and Piece sells albums
I wonder who the new megadeth guitarist will be next week............
I saw MegaDave back in '93 with Suicidal Tendencies. They played their asses off but the sound production was crap.
Sometimes things happen for the best this Is Dave's situation with Metallica 😢😢😢😢😢
