'Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure' holds a special place in my heart because I first saw it spending the night at a friend's when we were 10 years old and the movie had been out on VHS rental. They had two VCR's so they'd record every movie that they rented-I even remember the FBI warning telling you NOT to do that but everyone did anyway. My friend died a few years later from a really, really bad asthma attack so I always think about him and how we laughed at this movie, excited to stay up all night watching movies and playing Nintendo. I miss you, buddy.
"played by Alex Winter and John Wick" - awesome. Negative points for no "The Decline of Western Civilization Part II: The Metal Years" or "Spinal Tap" on the list.
Bro, I was legit thinkin of all those movies too. Love his picks but sad he completely left out the whole sub genre of heavy metal horror films. Devil’s Candy was also a good ass heavy metal horror flick too.

Mammas Pojkar/Metal Brothers (Sweden). 6. Metal-head (Iceland) 7. Spinal Tap (UK). 8. Lords of Chaos (USA/Norway?). 9. Metal Lords (USA). 10. Decline of Western Civilization II (USA). 11. Tia Carrera is the chick from Wayne’s world. She’s totally rad. Just last year did a tour playing bass with a Hawaiian group . My wife got pictures with her
Thanks for including Whiplash even if it's about a jazz drummer and not a metal drummer - I'm sure musicians across ALL genres have suffered similar abuses for the sake of perfection, be it from a professor or a tyrannical bandleader. A few others to consider - The Gate, Deathgasm, Almost Famous, Heavy Metal in Baghdad (a documentary), Slumber Party Massacre 2, Tenacious D and the Pick of Destiny... Also, based on Vibes more than content of actual metal; Ridley Scott's "Legend" looks how an old Nightwish song sounds and for that reason it's been a favorite of mine for years.
Deathgasm is another wild yet hilarious metal related movie. Another one (for me) it's a spanish duology called "Isi/Disi" (I don't know if there's any english dub, but maybe you can find it with subtitles)
This list should only have gone to 11. The film that should have made the number 1 slot was "This is Spinal Tap". The 2nd best movie would be 1981's animated sci-fi masterpiece "Heavy Metal". Classic soundtrack.
Tia Carrere was on Tiger Belly not too long ago and she is just as vivacious and awesome as you’d imagine her to be, I mean I’d still hit it :p (respectfully )
Green Room is an absolute must watch. Focus is on a punk band doing the independent circuit in the northwest US on their own, and SHTF in the worst way. By the end it's basically a horror film. But it's pretty accurate in its depiction of this level of music, minus the STHF part LOL.
Fuckyesss. As a rock/metal drummer, when Whiplash came out I said "Finally we drummers have a movie to call our own." Respect can be given to other genres of the musical family and jazz definitely deserves it. What a great movie.
you know hellhammer started as a jazz drummer. both genres require strong musicianship and tend to be meritocracies. prog metal for example is full of jazz influence. see opeth's deliverance.
Jazz musicians are the real deal, don't discount them. Jazz is a difficult genre to play! Easy to listen to, but not so easy to play. Case in point, another movie from back in the day was the movie "Crossroads". Ralph Macchio cannot play the instrument, but he sure acts out the part really well. Classical guitar is insane. Also, the fact that Eddie Van Halen asked country star Roy Clark to teach him to play guitar, says a lot. Roy Clark was a master of stringed instruments, particularly the guitar, violin/fiddle, and banjo, highly technical in his mastery of these instruments. If I remember correctly too, it is a Jazz drummer that holds the "bps" world record according to Guiness World, but it doesn't actully say, but he was just 11 years old when he accomplished this feat. Classical guitarists are some of the fastest and technically sound players in the world. I love my metal music, but facts are facts.
@@derekwalker4622 agree strongly, credit where credit is due. i wish i knew more about jazz. should be a video somewhere for recommended jazz for metalheads.
American Satan (2017) is fun, you have Andy Biersack of Black Veil Brides, and Remington Leith of Palaye Royale (voice when Andy signs in the movie). Its about a band that literally makes a deal with the Devil for success.
How is METAL LORDS not on this list..!? It's one of the most wholesome and fun movies about a couple of high schoolers starting a metal band with cameos from the legends Scott Ian, Tom Morello, Kirk Hammett and Rob Halford.
Its funny you say "Detroit Rock City" should be required viewing before going to a first concert because my first concert was KISS...I was 10. It was 1983. It was mind blowingly cool for a 10 year old obsessed with that band!! All my siblings are older than me by 10, 11 and 13 years, so I was born listening to rock and roll. I discovered heavier stuff younger than a lot of people apparently...lol...my second concert was Joan Jett later in 1983. The following concerts I saw, thanks to my sister were Motley Crue and Twisted Sister and Ratt....🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻
I’m from Detroit. My first concert was The Offspring … but there was also a Red Wings game and an ICP show that night. Detroit was pretty crazy that night, lol. I also watched “Detroit Rock City” wondering why they’re running around Detroit in January without coats
Includes a movie about jazz drumming in a list recommending movies to metal heads while omitting what is arguably THE heavy metal movie, Spinal Tap, you're a fair way off the mark here chief.
When it comes to representing Norwegian black metal, I wouldn’t say that Lords of Chaos is the best pick. There are a lot of documentaries that are far more insightful in that regard and even has been endorsed by and featured people who was part of that community. It was, however, the best mainstream representation of a genre that prefered to stay underground. I am more disappointed that Spinal Tap was not on this list…
@@RThyrringWell, despite it's reputation. It still made big news - sold records worldwide. And influenced (given it's unique sound) combined well with other styles of music.. So I feel deserves a mention up there with the best..

Where is Trick R Treat, the animation Heavy Metal, This is Spinal Tap, Still Crazy, Decline of Western Civilization part II The Metal Years, Lords of Chaos, Avil
1998’s Still Crazy with Bill Nighy is my ultimate go to movie about hard rock. Fused with humor and things that really happen in the world of music is amazing. My other must is Almost Famous. Some of the lines that were added to that movie just hit me hard and are part of my musical truths. Especially the line about things being raw and natural leading up to a single “woo”. The directors cut is better yet. Both had amazing soundtracks that I still listen to. Honorable mention can go to Singles. Although happening in Seattle at the height of the grunge era, it does delve into some of the misfortunes of people in the music scene. Once again a damn good soundtrack.
Spinal Tsp may be old, but without a doubt, its the most iconic metal movie of all time. Including Little Nicky or even shitty movies like Rock Star is pretty fkn ridiculous.
Some additional must whatch classics are Spinal Tap, Tenatious D and the Pick of Destiny, Bad News and Anvil! The Story of Anvil. Also some great more recent movies are Metalhead and Deathgasm.

pro tip, finland is not Scandinavia, finns dont like being lumped in with it, am dating a finn haha, otherwise, dope vid, love your sense of humour and delivery!
I'm gonna be the pedantic ass because I only found this out when it came up in discussion with Finns. Depending on where you are, it is considered part of Scandinavia. The USA has Finland as Scandinavian. Is it totally accurate? Maybe not, but is the term concrete in definition? Nope.
Depends on who you ask. Geographically, Finland is not considered part of Scandinavia. However, my Dad, Mom, and older relatives considered themselves Scandinavians. My Dad, Mom, and relatives grew up in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. I grew up in Northern Minnesota and Finland was considered part of Scandinavia. In addition, according to one of my cousins who lives Finland many Finns consider themselves Scandinavian.
@@lordvlygar2963 It's a little bit like Great Britain and the Brittish Isles. Irland is not included in the first but is included in the second. The Scandinavian Peninsula includes parts of Finland.
@@oldguy445 I don't know many, if at all, any self respecting Finn IN Finland that calls themselves Scandinavian. The Finns of Swedish decent maybe. But not so much Ethnic Finns..
Finland geographical location is Scandinavian Peninsula. Finnish people are Ugrofinn origin. Different than Germanic Swedes, Norwegian and Danish. But despite ethnic differences with their Germanic-Scandinavian neighbours, the Scandinavian vibe is there in Finland, so in its own way Finland belongs to the Scandinavian world.
FUBAR (2002), Heavy Metal (1981), Through The Never (2013). Rich Wilkes wrote Airheads and The Dirt, he was a Sunset Strip groupie in the 80s and was good friends with Lemmy who appeared in Airheads free of charge. Rich also wrote The Jerky Boys Movie, The Stoned Age and the XXX trilogy starring Vin Diesel. Rich was also a huge fan of Pantera and said in an article he wrote for Circus or one of those metal mags that no longer exist, that the role of Rex the bassist in Airheads was written with Steve Buscemi in mind because he looked like Rex Brown of Pantera who the character was named after.

Rivers Edge and Spinal Tap, 100% deserve a slot in the top 10.
Yeah. That scene where I think it’s Crispen Glover’s character blasting Captor of sin.
@@metaldog4642 Fates Warning - Kyrie Eleison too
I was think Rivers Edge too
Good list, but without Deathgasm and of course the absolute #1 Spinal Tap it is incomplete.
Actually no Movie, but an anime: Detroit Metal City
It´s a funny Black Metal one
Actually there is a live action adaptation. Gene Simmons is in it
Check out Mazinkaiser SKL. A kickass mecha anime with heavy metal vibes. Plus Loudness made it's opening theme.
"played by Alex Winter and John Wick" - awesome.
Negative points for no "The Decline of Western Civilization Part II: The Metal Years" or "Spinal Tap" on the list.
No Spinal Tap...denied.
No Trick Or Treat? Black Roses? Rocktober Blood? Hard Rock Zombies? Slumber Party Massacre 2? Deathgasm? The Gate? Gummo? Damn dude.
Bro, I was legit thinkin of all those movies too. Love his picks but sad he completely left out the whole sub genre of heavy metal horror films. Devil’s Candy was also a good ass heavy metal horror flick too.
deathgasm FOR REAL. i got the soundtrack on vinyl. may i also add to your list of 80s awesomeness Rock and Roll Nightmare
Hey mate, here is 12 more best heavy metal movies off the top of my head:
1. Bad News (UK). 2. Trick or Treat (USA). 3. The Stoned Age (USA). 4. Deathgasm (NZ). 5. Mammas Pojkar/Metal Brothers (Sweden). 6. Metal-head (Iceland) 7. Spinal Tap (UK). 8. Lords of Chaos (USA/Norway?). 9. Metal Lords (USA). 10. Decline of Western Civilization II (USA). 11. Heavy Metal Parking Lot (USA). 12. Anvil - the Story of Anvil (USA/Canada?).
Came here to suggest Bad News. It, along with the other Comic Strip films, is on UA-cam.
Anvil was great movie. Determination and love for metal against all the s**t life throws at you, and kinda real life Spinal Tap too!
@@NoName-t7e Stunt Rock is a great movie about a band called Sorcery
@@erikhrycun1770 I have never even heard of that movie or that band so I checked it out. Thanks man, I love 70s films and fashion.
@@erikhrycun1770 also I could have added another film, Detroit Rock City, to that original list. 90s movie with Ed Furlong and Malanie Lynskey.
There was ONE funny scene in Get Him To The Greek - "Sometimes when you smoke a Jeffrey, you've got to stroke the fuzzy wall"
Tia Carrera is the chick from Wayne’s world. She’s totally rad. Just last year did a tour playing bass with a Hawaiian group . My wife got pictures with her
Schwing
Spinal Tap is a must, followed by Eat the rich.
Eat The Rich... You've got taste
This list should only have gone to 11. The film that should have made the number 1 slot was "This is Spinal Tap". The 2nd best movie would be 1981's animated sci-fi masterpiece "Heavy Metal". Classic soundtrack.
I’m still in somewhat shock that they covered Reagan Youth in Airheads. That was legendary
I haven’t seen that since before I discovered Reagan Youth, gonna have to rewatch!
Probably my favorite metal movie. “Who would win in a fight, Lemmy, or god? Trick question! Lemmy IS god!”
Spinal Tap ? The Story of Anvil ? Some Kind of Monster?
Little Nicky is a classic, I LOVE this movie \m/
The Big Short RIP Vinnie Paul.
Tia Carrere was on Tiger Belly not too long ago and she is just as vivacious and awesome as you’d imagine her to be, I mean I’d still hit it :p (respectfully )
I think you missed the most important Metal movie ever: This is Spinal Tap.
Much apreciated :)
Where’s Spinal Tap?
Green Room is an absolute must watch. Focus is on a punk band doing the independent circuit in the northwest US on their own, and SHTF in the worst way. By the end it's basically a horror film. But it's pretty accurate in its depiction of this level of music, minus the STHF part LOL.
No. 1 is the goat! 11 should be spinal tap.
Fuckyesss. As a rock/metal drummer, when Whiplash came out I said "Finally we drummers have a movie to call our own." Respect can be given to other genres of the musical family and jazz definitely deserves it. What a great movie.
"Jazz is kinda like metal" 🤣 I'm curious what your drummer has to say about Whiplash
yeah he aunt getting into Lorna Shore
Whiplash is amazing. Every musician should see it.
you know hellhammer started as a jazz drummer. both genres require strong musicianship and tend to be meritocracies. prog metal for example is full of jazz influence. see opeth's deliverance.
Dude, Heavy Trip was awesome. I would have never heard of it had it not been for this video. Loved it!!!
whatever happened with "HEAVY METAL" ............. 1981 cartoon movie? ..........
Absolutely! Hell Yeah!
American Satan (2017) is fun, you have Andy Biersack of Black Veil Brides, and Remington Leith of Palaye Royale (voice when Andy signs in the movie). Its about a band that literally makes a deal with the Devil for success.
Deathgasm is an awesome metal movie
The airport scene in “Get Him to the Greek” is something I’ve lived, and makes the ridiculous VERY REAL.
Includes a movie about jazz drumming in a list recommending movies to metal heads while omitting what is arguably THE heavy metal movie, Spinal Tap, you're a fair way off the mark here chief.
Huge oversight
I recently saw Scream for me Sarajevo and it was a fantastic story with incredible music tracks.
No mention of Lords Of Chaos.. 😅
Maybe 'cause it's a bad movie
@@RThyrringWell, despite it's reputation. It still made big news - sold records worldwide. And influenced (given it's unique sound) combined well with other styles of music.. So I feel deserves a mention up there with the best..
also no phallus in wonderland.
Didnt he say best
I saw headbanger's journey at a special event in quebec city, sam dunn was present and right behind us the guys from in flames were sitted as they were playing in the bigger area of that venue on that evening, it was a special moment
Where is Trick R Treat, the animation Heavy Metal, This is Spinal Tap, Still Crazy, Decline of Western Civilization part II The Metal Years, Lords of Chaos, Avil
Anvil: the Story of Anvil. My father, may he rest in peace, was a salsa musician. I can tell that Anvil’s story is just about every musician’s story.
Before you destroy Canada, watch FUBAR and it's sequel. A true depiction of the Canadian metalhead.
What about Heavy Metal or Doomstar Requiem?
Honorable mentions: Metal Lords, Deathgasm, and Tenacious D and the Pick of Destiny
You missed a few....Dethgazm, Trick Oe Treat, Spinal Tap, Metal Lords(on Netflix), and Lords of Chaos
heavy trip is a master piece
Indeed, it needs spinal tap, ace mockumentary (break like the wind a fave cd)
Trick or treat deffo.
Eat the Rich, mad film with Lemmy (Spider) n music.
Maximum Overdrive, solid AC/DC sound track, n a Steven King film
And Elvira mistress of the dark😂

Where the eff is Spinal Tap?,My pissed off gauge is on 11,that movie was so good
4:40 i cant find it on youtube, could someone send a link if they found it?
pro tip, finland is not Scandinavia, finns dont like being lumped in with it, am dating a finn haha, otherwise, dope vid, love your sense of humour and delivery!
Deathgasm im surprised wasn’t an honorable mention.
Glad someone else applauded the ending to whiplash just as I did.
What about "Sound of Metal". Story about a drummer who becomes deaf.
If you like Spinal Tap there is a lesser known other mockumentary called Bad News.
'Bad News Tour'(1983) and 'More Bad News'(1988) can be found on UA-cam. They are pretty short so you can watch both in one go.
I can't believe Pick of Destiny isn't in the list
