4:15 For those that do not know, CAR WASH MODE ACTIVATES CLOSING THE AIR VALVE (in the frunk area)!!!!!! Many folks have said that water builds up cuz water doesn't properly get dispensed and so there's been mold problem for some. It might not look like anything but MAKE SURE to car wash mode or else your car might have mold after a few years
Just popping it into “neutral” does NOT secure the charge port door, which could accidentally open when one of the washing arms brushes up against it. That’s one of the reasons why Tesla created this seemingly cumbersome “Wash Mode.”
Thanks for the tutorial. I'm always going to use automatic car washes, especially in the winter time. I live in the Midwest and there's no way I'm hand washing my car when it's 10° outside. I washed my car the other day and because I wasn't 100% sure how to use car wash mode, I ended up just shifting into neutral. But I'll definitely use it going forward.
Step 1: use car wash mode until get to the person tell me to stop. Step 2 : then use Free Roll and fold mirror Step 3: After finish.. Press exit car wash mode. Then press Brake and Shift to D then Drive forward.. Can someone confirm those steps Thanks.
Thanks! Needed this tutorial. My Long Range Y is supposed to come in 10 days or so. Have been debating whether to use a car wash with brushes. A graphene coat would cost $800 but not sure I want to waste the money. May try this way out for a while and see.
I've been using one since February and have not seen any issues and mine is a 2018. I also used these on my 2019 Challenger (that I traded for my M3) and never seen an issue. 😁
I did when I tried the other day but panicked and didn’t have time to sit and read anything. I got stuck at the beginning because of the “Hold” when it wanted me to be in neutral so I canceled everything. Now that I saw it clearly explained I’ll be checking it out again.
I just got my first Tesla (M3) 3 days ago, and because you mentioned how some owners warn that automatic car washes are bad for the paint, and that you would be checking the results after the wash, I expected that that would be part of this video.
This was more of a tutorial but I used one of these on my Challenger for 2 years and now my Model 3 for a year. Haven't seen any issues with the paint.
Honestly one of my favorite features as well. Super smart idea and what's crazy is many owners have no clue and just put their car in neutral. Then they'll be suing the car wash company when it breaks off their charge port door lol
Sadly I don't think there is a way around that. It's just a built-in safety feature. Someone would need to be in the seat to stop that from happening and just ride through the car wash.
What about for automatic car washes that make you stop at a certain point within the wash tunnel? Presumably just set it in car wash mode, without free roll, then stop and you're good to go?
My big issue… why does Tesla require hitting brake to switch from N to D??? Most ICE cars don’t require this. And when the car wash full of cars I don’t want car behind me running into me. Should be easy update for Tesla to implement.
I actually learned recently, that you can shift from D/R without pressing the break as long as the car is going less than 5 mph. So you should just be able to press the stalk and it will switch.
@@BigCVlogs yes I can actually switch from R -> D or D->R without using the brake when going real slow. But I cannot go N->D without the brake. It’s stupid. And I’d argue a safety issue. Infuriating.
Honestly, none at all. Looks shiny everyday. I bought a 2019 Dodge Challenger and had taken it through the same car wash for over 2 years and never had an issue. It was even praised by the car dealer when I traded it for the Model 3. I know some people have had bad experiences from what I've heard, but I have used these for years and never had an issue with any of my cars.
I ran my Range Rover Evoque through it for 10 years. I didn't have any issues. It still looks great. It may have some swirls I guess, but I don't care. I did go for the wax option all the time, just to add a bit of protection. Buying any car is a bad investment, and spending hours of your life cleaning it, just to save a few bucks when you sell it is not worth it for me.
Seems to be for safety of the car rolling away in neutral and to keep the Charge port door locked since it can be opened by pressing on it. (plus rolling up windows and stopping anyone from being able to roll them down) I know the bolts can be opened by pressing it but it has a release to open the charge port door and then you pull it the rest of the way vs a motor that opens it up on the Tesla. Really simple at the end of the of the day though. Im actually looking at a Bolt EUV for my wife since we would not travel with it and I think it gets the full $7500 Tax Credit.
You can go into the settings and change your rims to different style Tesla rims. It updates your range as well to match whatever size rims you have. The old owner of my car got these rims through the referral program. I just got lucky buying second hand lol.
Anyone had any damage at car wash place? I’m using it past few weeks and I haven’t noticed anything even though Tesla is not recommending . free roll is for everyone or self driving only ? I was been using neutral. I think free roll is much easier

Interesting. I can say, I didn't even know that.
my first wash coming up...very helpful video dude....answered all my questions, Will go brushless for sure
Thank you! You will enjoy it. I've been using it almost 3 months almost everyday and I haven't had a single issue.

Gracias por el tutorial acabo de comprar un tesla y tengo que aprender muchas cosas. Soy mecánico. Pero Tesla es otra cosa. Gracias

Great video and explanation.
it’s been a year since you uploaded this, have you noticed any scratching to the paint in this time ?
I have not honestly. Still using it to this day.
The Roman shirt is clean my boy
Your video answered all my questions. Just wanted to say thanks!
Glad to have helped. It's what I'm here for. 😃

the last thing i expected when i clicked on this video was to be greeted by a Roman Reigns shirt, its like an easter egg haha

I've found that washing it myself was worse for the paint, so I just accepted that my car isn't going to be pretty forever.
This is my favorite feature on teslas

very good video well done showed all the steps what you have to do thanks
That's what I'm here for. 😁 Glad to have helped. It can be tricky at first for sure.
What if you enter car wash mode and switch to neutral gear instead of clicking Free Roll? Thanks
As far as I know that is possible. To me, it's easier to click the button than getting the car in the neutral though lol.
Still doing good with the automatic car wash with no issues or scratches ?? I have a 2023 and am so nervous to attempt this ? Please let me know
I haven't seen any issues. Still using it till this day. I do have PPF on the front area though.
@@BigCVlogs thanks so much for your reply. Ppf on the hood or just bumper ?
Thanks man
What if you work a car wash and you don’t wanna drive through the vehicle but it throws itself into park as soon as you open the door..?
Sadly I don't think there is a way around that. It's just a built-in safety feature. Someone would need to be in the seat to stop that from happening and just ride through the car wash.

@@rvcv99 interesting. I've only tried it when in car wash mode. Never tried it in real neutral.
Now clean your screen. 😂
For some reason when the person tells me N no brake free roll
Is shaded out wont let me press it and im left to find N on my own
I know you have to have the break pressed in, to be able to enable the free roll. That may be the step your missing.
@@BigCVlogs ill try this next time thanks man
Free roll is for the self driving only? I don’t think I have that option at the car wash mode or i haven’t noticed it yet
You should. It's not for Self Driving. It just allows the car to roll through the car wash.
Noticed any issue with your paint?
Honestly, none at all. Looks shiny everyday. I bought a 2019 Dodge Challenger and had taken it through the same car wash for over 2 years and never had an issue. It was even praised by the car dealer when I traded it for the Model 3.

I heard a lot of people had issues with this mode. And just put it in neutral
I've been using mine 2 years and never had 1 issue with Car Wash mode.
I can never get mine into free roll. I always end up in drive every time and I take forever trying to get to free roll.
Very weird .. I'd see if Tesla could help with that or try a full power cycle of the car.
How's the paint job on the Tesla now?
No issues at all that I can see. Still looks just as good as the day I bought it.
This doesn’t work for my model s don’t know why.
Thank you..
You're welcome :)
The Chevrolet Bolt just needs you to press one button. Two if you have One Pedal driving on. Leave it to Tesla to overcomplicate SIMPLE things.

Not that I have seen.
@@BigCVlogs ok thank you!
Why do you have different rims on your screen? How did you customize that?
You can go into the settings and change your rims to different style Tesla rims. It updates your range as well to match whatever size rims you have. The old owner of my car got these rims through the referral program. I just got lucky buying second hand lol.
@@BigCVlogs i cant seem to find that option though
Go In your menu, then service and wheel and tire configuration. Then you can change it. Gotta be park also.
Thank you that was helpful.
Should have shown your car after the wash. Thanks for the tutorial.
My 2020 X fully updated does not have a Car Wash mode. Anyone have this as well?
Look under “controls” scroll down to “service” and it should be located there!
🙏Thanks 🙏
In back
Can’t believe you need a computer to go to car wash.
😂😂😂

Free roll is for everyone. I've been using them for years and never noticed an issue with paint or anything. (On Tesla's and non-Tesla cars)
