Lol imagine going for a long jogg and using ”come to me” so you can go all in on your run and just drive back 😂
I think you could bypass FSD at this point and send FSD to wherever it needs to go
My in laws have a Model 3 with FSD. The garage they park in is quite tight so when I’m driving their vehicles, I uses those forward and back arrows to pull into and out of their garage with zero issues. If you have it lined up properly outside the garage it has no problem going into the garage.
I thought for a minute you were sending it to Target to do some shopping for you.
Now you just need to integrate this feature with your smartwatch and summon the car then KITT and Michael Knight would be proud. Hello from Denmark 🙂
Go for a 5 mile jog with come to me active! Then try a 10 mile bike ride, then try getting into a row boat and see if it'll cross a bridge 🤣
Obviously the car needs a front bumper camera ASAP , and we may get that with the model Y refresh, hope the model 3 X and S get it soon after!
I wouldn‘t even be surprised if in certain countries the car ISNT allowed to drive alone, because it has that Blindspot where it Obvjectivley doesnt see anything!
Sometimes I don’t understand Tesla. We weren’t denying that front bumper sensor may be not necessary but we all knew that front camera needed a front bumper camera… sigh
A front bumper camera makes so much more sense
Why is it needed if it can just backup a couple feet first?
@@BenefitOfTheDoubtInquiry It should have zero blind spots. The goal is to be superior than human drivers. It can't always back up a couple of feet, especially considering the auto park goes into spots backward (because it has no front camera!).
Yep
@@BenefitOfTheDoubtInquirybecause even if it can backup it can’t see everything and will run things over, as seen in the video. But also if it’s backed into a spot it can’t backup, therefore if it auto parks it can’t safely take off.
Nightmares of Christine chasing you down! 😱
Im now officially part of the tesla Family with my new Tesla model Y. Very satisfied so far
Awesome to hear, congrats!
Front bumper camera is super necessary for FSD to go to robotaxi levels. What do you think Chris.
In my non-professional opinion, it seems obvious you would want the car to have 0 blind spots.
At the same time, let me grab a waymo or cruise and try these same tests 🤷
@@DirtyTesla I think a big difference is the FSD "forgets" whats infront of its bumper. Likely the Waymo doesn't forget things that go into its blindspots. Fixable, but would require a large change to how it handles sentry/being asleep, etc
We already have the clue regarding this, the cybertruck got one and so will robotaxi🤷🏻♂
@JLars It is not about forgetting. The car is acting in a dynamic environment. Even if it remembers that there was an empty space in front of the car on arrival, a few minutes later a dog could start resting on the ground and the last memory about the empty space and the "free to go" signal is not reliable anymore.
A sleeping dog stuff animal might make for a more _impactful_ demonstration than a GoldFish box.
"it's just lvl 2 driver assistance which basically everybody has"
😂
"The car's cruising"; Cruising for a bruising. 🙃
Thank you for your sacrifice Chris, lol
Thank you for the all interesting tests! Learned a lot about the summon
I don't understand why Tesla took the ultrasonic sensors of their car?
I mean wouldn't these prevent overrunning small stuff in the front?
I mean, its fine if they remove the USS, but not replacing if with a front bumber camera is silly
1 dollar per sensor, 10 sensors per car, 1 million cars. $10,000,000 savings. It’s just math.
I think at the time they said it had to do with fender benders, so small accidents like that wouldn’t mess with FSD and to make them easier to repair without sensors. I still think USS are worth it though.
7:06 oh you did it nvm lol
A camera make more sense, the USS in the bumper also cant detect all type of objects special if they flat or round shapes
summary: cars need front bumper camera
Bumper camera should be a retrofit option.
Good video like always!!
It performed better than other demos I have seen.
Nice job mate 😊 It did pretty good!
Definitely think it could do with a front camera or ultrasonic sensor though just to be safe (especially for city use) 😅
I would still love to see how it deals with getting out of a parallel parking situation (I.e. with something pretty close in front and behind at the same time) at some point 😊
I have a visual depth perception problem, and I’m really excited to use it to drive it into and out of the garage🎉
Bumper camera on the truck is going to save a lot of boxes.
Thank you for saying it’s not wide!
I want to try it out, but never know what I will get!
9:38 As someone from a metric country I appreciate the conversions to various orders of magnitude of metric length units. I think nanometers would be most appropriate for “two feet”.
Next time for sure. nanometers are normal to me tho, I use them at work all the time :P
The car really needs a front bumper camera... it really didn't have a way to know if something is in front of the car, yet it went anyway. Super impressive nonetheless.
Like the first time the feature existed. Some UA-camrs made it look like they were watching people's reactions when the car approached the front door of the shopping store.
Sorry if my English is very bad
Mirrors folded thru out
Why is Tesla resisting putting a front bumper camera on their cars? (minus Cybertruck)
I think they wanted the sonar sensors to handle it, so didn’t need a camera until they removed them. I bet coming redesigns will have it
Costs
Pets and wildlife could be the height of that box (but could probably evade). Amazon packages might be more at risk. Or child toys, or child bikes or scooters on their side.
Deer jumping out at the last moment is a thing where I live.
I'm so impressed that it barely sees the handle bars and does not go. Considering everything the camera is looking at while driving, it knows to not go because of two tiny handlebars. Unreal.
Yeah, that was great
You can put the car in park and choose forward or reverse and leave the car. It will enter the garage automatically, and park itself. Be careful not to win the Darwin Award for the first person in history to run yourself over with your own car, that you are in control of.
And that's why we have ultrasonic bumper sensors.
Thanks for doing this. Clearly needs a nose camera. Hope they offer a retro fit once they have nose cameras for new cars. What would it do with a parking lot curb?
Would a front bumper retrofit be possible for tesla to do for cars without it?
I think it's really cool, but if you're at a shopping center with 100 Tesla's parked outside, if every fucker is summoning with their carts full of junk waiting at the front door, it's gonna be problematic. I can see this ending up having location or traffic restrictions. Like "multiple tesla's detected in the area, summon unavailable" or something.
They way you phrased this is hilarious 😂
I don't blame Chris for Tesla holding back releases. He points out both pros and cons. If it's not ready, Tesla should hold it back. I'm glad 12.4 never went wide because it genuinely looked like a downgrade and I'm glad we held out for 12.5. If ASS risks causing damage to my car by hitting curbs or slamming the emergency brakes unnecessarily, I would rather wait for it to be safe before unwittingly exposing my car to risk.
That box represents the parking stop in the parking lot it doesn't see and you're too far away to see it as well. I just can't trust it yet at this point. It's good but it needs to be great for widespread acceptance.
Yeah, that accusation by AIDRVR was uncalled for and baseless. Sour grapes.
He was just clowning, we talk and joke all the time. But people do honestly think I or others making these videos stop Tesla's rollouts.
When full self driving comes out will you have extended range on this. It must be able to as it will pick people up as a taxi from larger distances.
Great video! Thanks for the tests!
Poor box :(
13:55 wow that was really close :D
Great tests Chris. This has some blind spots still. But amazing results.
The dream of the current fleet of Tesla's getting this feature and also becoming robotaxis is just that, a dream. Without a front camera (and other sensors perhaps?) these cars will run over a small child when operating fully autonomous. Obviously that is a significant problem currently with human drivers and all the many blind spots (and human fallibility) but the public and regulators won't tolerate a self driving car making that mistake. They just won't. Especially when it is fixable.
I can almost guarantee you that the Tesla robotaxi (cybercab?) will have a front bumper camera (or blind spot sensor(s)). If it doesn't at the unveil it will when it goes live on roads. Again the public and regulators will demand it because there will be zero tolerance for self driving mistakes (as it should be). And yes I understand the statistics but we tolerate human mistakes (much more than we should IMO), we won't tolerate robot mistakes nearly as much. Again the goal is to be far superior than the human driven car with virtually zero mistakes. If they have to add a camera (or sensors) to achieve that they should. (I'm not talking about lidar.)
Poor little goldfish (box).
Swell done.
FREE THE ASS! Thanks Chris! Great video as always.
Great testing, thanks for the video.
How about adding some big googly eyes for the pedestrian tests? 👀 that might make it look more appropriate.
I have a HW4 Model 3 Long Range with FSD subscription and advanced update mode and this still hasn't dropped. Has Tesla started rolling this out yet?
6:38 try just holding the forward button! I learned it does actually steer to avoids things when simply holding forwards AND backwards! Nice video!
This ASS software has obviously benefitted from the FSD improvement.
Combine that with self parking, and its ability to self-select a parking spot, I envision a near future when you can drive to your destination using FSD, get out, the car goes off and finds a parking spot and parks. When you're finished, you push summon, and the car returns to pick you up.
Nice job. Great tests!
Getting ASS is nice but How about some AFFSD (actually functioning FSD) already? 😂
I wonder how long it takes before NHTSA bans this feature. It can not detect a low object in front of the bumper.
Did the car get scratched??? 😢
I can see the kids getting a hold of the phone and driving it all over.
😂
When using dog mode, accessing the camera often requires two or three attempts to get a connection. What happens if a connection is lost during movement?
makes me think it will run over parking block
It is not usable in its current state. Tesla has a habit of releasing unfinished products. Still too slow, running over obstacles. Imagine the box wasn't cardboard but rather a cement block or something else. I have a MYP but lets not kid ourselves that its actually handy right now. Itll take longer to open the app, start summon and have it come to you rather than just walking to it.
Pretty sure that small amount of backward movement is for the ultra sonic sensors to get a fresh reading of anything really close in the front.
Yeah, or NOT 😅
This car doesn't have USS
@@DirtyTesla Ah, I thought I saw the tell tale little circular plugs on the bumper facia that indicate those old school sensors. 15:07 I saw those circular indents, I thought those were USS...
throw some toy hot wheels on the road to see the FSD reactions
Hardware version, Three or four?
we dont even have it yet!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You're the best. Funny. 😂
Nice
so cool
Would you have seen the box/bike if you get to you car from behind on the scenarios it missed them?
Generally you look, even if you don't you will feel the crunch of whatever you are running over. The car by itself may not realize it ran something over if you aren't monitoring it.
Just another reason why all vision is dumb. If the car would have ultrasonic sensors, it wouldn’t have to back up to look at the blind spot of the front camera. I like Teslas, but I think it’s very stupid that they got rid of the ultrasonic sensors.
An alternate title: testing my Tesla’s A.S.S
GREAT
Why ?
Tesla is copying OpenAI with their "releases".
😎🤙
Nice!
Take out the trash, feed the cat, walk the car ..
hw4 would come with both ass and dumb summon with no uss?
Yeah this is HW4, but the update isn't rolled out to everyone
@@DirtyTesla wonder if they roll out wide if it will contain both
Considering they still not giving very many Hardware 3 cars any version of 12.5 I have lost faith in Tesla team. I have not got any updates to FSD since April. Tesla has still not done wide release to Hardware 3 cars.
Atoms are so dead lol
Which bike is yours and which is your wifes?
They're both mine
13:55 😱💩👖
