    I was in the Fast Food Industry for 30 years. 23 as a Franchisee. All of your points are exactly what I experienced and what was taught to us on how to increase profitability. When the Franchise went from privately held to Publicly traded all of these points were magnified to increase the profits to a higher level for stockholders at the expense of franchisees and customers. After the IPO they increased the fat levels of menu items, included more sugary menu items, “improved” the product by adding hydrogenated oils, salts, and sugar that chemically created a more addictive food. In the end I was 100 lbs heavier and not only that I saw numerous regular customers die from their diet of poor food. With the menu changes they also lowered the menu price and increased the volume of by bundling menu items. This increased the profitability of the franchise while cutting profitability to the franchisee. These massive franchises market to your children because as they told me “Nothing sells product better than a child incessantly asking for a parent to get something”. I’ve never regretted leaving. Every single point you made is 100% accurate.

    • @denisegaylord382
      @denisegaylord382 Місяць тому +12

      Exactly. Everything is done to increase profitability, and drive the cravings. Hence why Krispy Kreme has a "hot" light when they are frying the donuts.
      The current restaurants today, receive almost ALL of their foods preprocessed for them. As a truck driver, I haul lots of groceries. Either for home use, or that of restaurants. I have discovered the larger the advertising budget, the more likely everything that store or restaurant sells, is prepared in a factory, and then trucked to their distribution center, then to their stores. With little to no real cooking taking place at the restaurant other than heating up the item, or taking it out of a bulk pack and putting it in a different package. Everything is pre measured or weighed. It's crazy.

      It's public knowledge and really only Oprah suffered when she spoke bad on beef in the early 90's and was pressed to backtrack by lobbies.
      What may not be as known are the simple benefits of flexibility (I like essentrics), or just not ordering soda (outside of the probiotic stuff like olipop/poppi of course and seltzer is cool) adds up to good habits.

    I have a lupus diagnosis. I was doing “ok” with my diet this past year, it wasn’t terrible but I was still eating junk foods intermittently throughout the week. Had a health scare not too long ago and was in ICU for 3 days with angioedema. After that i knew I had to change my diet and get out of my stressful job. Cut out dairy, gluten, eat Whole Foods now, intermittent fasting everyday and haven’t had fast food in months. Started exercising daily. Went from around 213 lbs and am now down to 201 lbs within 2 months of making the change. Swelling has been gone since. What we eat is everything guys. Almost two years ago, in large part thanks to you Dr. Berg, I quit eating sugar, cut carbs, quit fast food, processed food and went on a Mediterranean diet.
    I went from being borderline pre-diabetic, having high blood pressure, joint pain, low energy and being generally miserable, to losing the extra pounds and reversing all the rest.
    I came to the realization that not only is fast food not cheap, but it's low quality and has virtually no food value.
    The experience forever changed the way I look at food and I will never go back. I'm 61 years young, in fairly good shape, full of energy and I feel blessed that
    I made a course correction before I shortened my life.

Where I noticed a difference was the massive amount of money I stopped spending on junk food, seed oils, bread, sugar and processed foods. I've been keto, organic and grass fed for 2 years now. Honestly I feel and look the same from when I ate crap but I know I'm doing better for my body and saving money even after buying the better quality foods that I now prepare at home.

    I would make a small suggestion. Ray Kroc, who bought out the McDonald brothers, revolutionized mass-produced food. During his time at the helm, “employees” became “human resources.” People who worked there were fungible and replaceable. The pay scale for these people stayed at the very bottom, the lowest of the low, so Kroc might be considered a material contributing factor to the elimination of the middle class. So, from one perspective, there is no bright side to McDonald’s and fast food; it’s all the dark side.

    From my mid-20's I had horrible seasonal allergies, each Spring allergies turned into sinus then bronchitis every April and Sept. In 2012 I cut out all BK, Wendy's and McD's along with some other things I changed and all allergies went away, but I thought it was the other things that were the fix. Over the next few years it crept back into my diet and in 2017 I had a case of bronchitis I couldn't shake, vacation to Jamaica, got Zika, sick, etc, stopped fast food again after that and same results. In the past 7+ years I got COVID in Aug 2022, in Feb 24 I got a viral sinus infection on a cruise and those are the only times I've so much as had a runny nose since 2017.

    Thank you Dr Berg for educating about how the animals are "kept" before slaughtered. It's important people really become aware of what kind of lives their food live, before ending up on their plate. Im in agreement with everything you've said about the food fed, the pharmaceuticals given, the additives added....thank you so much for putting it all so succinctly. I follow a vegan lifestyle, not plant based. I eat whole real food, organic, nuts seeds leafy greens sprouts berries tofu (for complete daily protein) avo, mushrooms, beans, cucumber tomatoes, basically avoid high carb veg. Feel amazing. I'm glad this video was made. This is actually happened. My roommate, did the Carnivore diet and lost some weight. The last of the Carnivore diet, he said this, verbatim: "I'm so glad this diet is over with. Now I can get back to normal food.". Here's his normal food: bagged & boxed cereal, PB&J(name brand) on white break, Fast Food, and soda to drink. Just yesterday, it was McDonald's for lunch and then he ran out to get another fast food establishment for dinner. And he wonders why he has hypothyroidism. The worst of all, it was just over a year ago that he lost his father to a widow maker level heart attack. I'll wrap this comment with my signature phrase: "He's working hard on his Santa Claus body!".
